Cyclist guide to installing Wahoo SPEEDPLAY cleats - feat. Standard Tension Cleats + Adapter

- If you’re already familiar with SPEEDPLAY pedals, then the revamped Wahoo SPEEDPLAY Zeros will look very familiar. The signature bowtie metal plates can still be found on the pedals but now fully extend around the pedal to provide additional protection against scrapes. With the sealed bearing design there are no longer any grease ports on the pedal although the pedals can still be opened. The spindle also has a more modern tapered design as the pedals can only be installed with an Allen wrench through the spindle body. The cleats have also received slight adjustments with the same multi-piece design: adapter plate for 3-bolt to 4-bolt (note SPEEDPLAY specific shoes don’t need this), C-shaped spring, protector plate and the plastic walkable cover...

I second the phillips head screw complaint.
Really helpful!
Very useful, thanks
The problems with the rubber cleat cover are due to the 2 piece spring plate not being installed correctly. Remove both spring plate pieces from the rubber cleat cover and bolt both to the baseplate. Then the cover will snap into place no problem. This was not covered in the instructions on the 2 videos that I watched. Might be in the supplied instructions but I,m 68 and could,nt read them due to the small print.
Very helpful video, but I can't get the last step (snapping in the cleat cover over the protection plate). No matter how hard I press, it never seems to snap in. I am not sure if I have something too tight or too loose, but I would appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Thanks.
Sorry for late reply - it's hard to say what your issue is but it shouldn't be that difficult. Make sure you are using the correct side and that the bolts are sitting flush otherwise it may not fit. The dimpled top cover is a bit hard to put on, but it will also snap in if aligned properly.
I have the same problem. I have the Comp model with the Easy tension cleat. I submitted a ticket to Wahoo a few minutes ago. I encourage you to do the same to raise their awareness of the issue.
You miss to explain how to set the tension in and out
Good point. We didn't go into detail on it, but you can adjust the heel / toe in release point of the pedals. Note, it is not the same as adjusting the tension though. Speedplay uses a simple U-shaped metal spring that is not adjustable in the same way Shimano/Look pedals are.
Hi , is there float adjustment on the easy action cleats?
Yes, the forward/after float adjustments are on the easy cleat. The easy cleats do not come with the aero surround that the normal cleats include.

Rediculous having philips head screws for cleats
Yes, over time the heads can be screws heads can become difficult to use. Most of the Look Keo cleats use allen heads which are a bit more dependable as long as you keep them clean.
Christopher Dunn: I agree, philips head is far from ideal. But, I'd guess that you can purchase the correct allen screws and they're not expensive.
