He's such an amazing Posa, really a golden age type voice with fantastic technique, and it shows that he put a lot of thought into acting. And it helps that he has this elegant, noble bearing, it really suits Verdi characters. Plus he seems like a very nice person.
A fascinating insight into Tezier's view of the role of Posa, a role he plays to perfection in this production. The scene between Posa and Phillip I thought was particularly powerful. This version succeeds in altering the entire dynamic of the opera while confounding the predictions of so many negative critics. The audience reaction was 100% positive !
This is such a great initiative to have singers talk about their grasp on their roles, because each artist contributes something different with their performance and their understanding of the text and the music, allowing us a more comprehensive approach of the character and the work in general, Félicitations Opéra National de Paris!
I absolutely loved this production, and I loved Tezier's interpretation of Posa......what he says about Posa being a rather ambiguous character is true, the character in Schiller is more morally ambiguous than Verdi makes him.....therefore more interesting. What Tezier does is bring the character closer to what he is in Schiller.........What I also like about the production was that Posa gets a proper funeral for once.....the soldiers salute their fallen comrade, that was so heartbreaking.
