"What is this?" "One of the best point and click games ever." "Huh, really?" "Yeah. It begins with you going to class to become a starship captain, getting yelled at by the teacher from Peanuts, all while an ominous remix of the Jeopardy music plays in the background." "SOLD!"
This was THE best damn game in the series. Epic characters...Epic story. Who didn't fall in love with every crew member (and Spikey) by the end? Roger was an actual character, too. More than just a stereotypical loser with a lot of luck, this Roger is brave, charismatic, and heroic - traits that eventually prove to counterbalance his lack of intelligence. This is a man you can actually root for. (and one you haven't already seen a dozen times in other media.)
These are some of the reasons why I dislike that many of the developments in SQ5 were undone in SQ6. Roger was developing as a character, had support of a group of people whose loyalty he had earned, showed despite minor mishaps here and there that he had some competence as a commanding officer. I feel that it was time to have Roger move on from being a mostly incompetent janitor, that joke had played out. He wasn't perhaps that much better as a captain but it was a positive development for him and it opened the opportunity for whole new adventures. I also feel that there was a much more clear direction with this storyline. There was such a large degree of randomness with the storylines of previous games sometimes.
I just realized that the mutants who infected Quirk and the Goliath's crew are the ones who stole the shuttle on Klorox II. Where Quirk had dropped the Genetex soup to begin with. Karma had a plan for him all along.
just recently started watching play throughs of all these, I loved playing this series when i was a kid in the 90's space quest 5 was the hardest for me to get my hands on
i can definitely see where you're coming from, because the fact that Roger gets to be a captain is one of the reasons why i loved this game so much; however, i can also see that they were trying to return to Roger's roots in 6, because a lot of us fell in love with him as the lowly, bumbling, happy-go-lucky janitor :D
Me: Set cource to Oakhurst California. Helm: Why Oakhurst, California? Me: To ask what's keeping Space Quest 7. Helm: But sir Sierra Entertainment closed down. Me: ACTIVISIONNNNNNNNNNNNNN *screaming in anger*
This game was released about 1-2 years before CD-ROM started picking up steam. In hindsight, they should've remastered and re-released this game with voice acting like they did with King's Quest 5.
Played this game at least 5 times. I remember buying it in a game store...what was the f'n name of those stores back then? They were in the mall and had pic hard disc games.
The store I remember visiting in the local mall was Software Ect. in the early 90's. That place was magic to me. It's where I would buy this game, the demo of Doom, Tie Fighter, Ecoquest, and many other games.
Same here, it was so awesome for me as well, I still remember getting my mom to buy me Police Quest, I bought Ecoquest myself....loved that game. Willy Bemish, Space Quest 5 loved it.....ect awesome store......pc game boxs with cool art work. Memories.
Man, I loved this game back in the day...I played it every time I went to my uncle's house. It's still the only game in the series I've ever played (just like KQ6).
Try SQ1 VGA for DosBox, you'll love it! Also, the fan-made SQ2 VGA remake is fun and runs on Windows. And if you're a fan of Beatrice Wankmeister then get the fan-made game SQ: Vohaul Strikes Back.
Police Quest: A bit more dry than the others, but then it's intended for more realism and the first 3 aren't too shabby. Quest for Glory: Amazing in their own right : 3 King's Quest: Mostly good, though one or two are just best left alone. Leisure Suit Larry: Let's face it though not in name, it's a quest of a sort, but not something that's my scene. Though there appear to be quite a few point and click games on the internet following in Larry's steps. ^^;

Well, in Space Quest games you will finde many references to many SF-series. Why, at around 4:50 you'll see the warp nacelles of a Star Trek like ship and floating above it a Viper of the old Battlestar Galactica series. Therefore, if you see something reminding you of one or the other popular series, it is perfectly normal, as there are many cameos in these games.
Heya! I've played Space Quest now for a bit, although I think they're kind of hard. Really love them though. Now, my question is, or w/e you want to call it; What are your thoughts on the Quest For Glory series?
I say play SQ1 VGA first since it's the first game (and you won't get frustrated by the parser interface right away.) And of the series, I'd say this one (SQ5) is best because of all the action Roger gets to have. SQ6 has its merits but it's a real let-down to see him as a lowly janitor again. (Personally, I thought him saving StarCon would absolve him from any "wrongs". It worked for Kirk.... )
Sind die Schiffe des Gegners bei dem "Schiefe versenken"-Minigame immer gleich gesetzt oder wie kommt das, dass du genau wusstest, wo seine Schiffe sind?
Any good with Financial management? The other class is just hard in the manner of impressing the teacher with my research and writing skills. I swear if I could write a paper on Sierra games, I'd have an easy A.
That would be fucking amazing......! If you still had your memories when you restored, of course... Although, the teachers would get a little suspicious after getting to know me better...
Hm. Maybe... What exactly do you want help with? Financial management in general? Oh god I hate that.. Impressing teachers... If only Sierra games were school subjects. *dreaming*

I feel 4 was actually much better than 5.
i feel 5 was actually better than 4
Yeah
Agree this is the best

I remember when this came out. I was so blown away with the insane graphics.
I just realized that the mutants who infected Quirk and the Goliath's crew are the ones who stole the shuttle on Klorox II. Where Quirk had dropped the Genetex soup to begin with.

I'll never forget the Whoppee Cusion in the Captain's Chair. Cliffy must've installed it.
*It's a dam shame they did away with the voices.*
This game was released about 1-2 years before CD-ROM started picking up steam. In hindsight, they should've remastered and re-released this game with voice acting like they did with King's Quest 5.
My fav in the series alongside SQ3. Man I feel old.
and that was ten years ago! 😆
This was one of my favorite pc games when I was a kid.
감사합니다. thank you from south korea
There sure is a lot of sitting around and talking in this game. I remember being frustrated by the comparative lack of puzzle solving and exploring.
Wasn't there a speech track that came with this...Last time I played it I was able to listen to what the descriptions said.... Interesting...
Yeah that's true. I still remember when he used the plunger to avoid falling in that acid in SQ2
one of my favorite games...playing it on a god damn 386 DX...good times

188-881 Fuckall ScummVM is a better choice than DOSBox for SQ1 VGA, also for SQ4 and SQ5, it doesn't work with SQ6 however.
Police Quest: A bit more dry than the others, but then it's intended for more realism and the first 3 aren't too shabby.
Quest for Glory: Amazing in their own right : 3

@janmansde3dede I don't think SIerra ever made a CD version of this game with voice acting. Only Space Quests 4 and 6 had voice acting I believe.
swietna gra :) te zarty i humor, nawiazania do Star Trek, Star Wars :) (pojedynek Vadera z Obi Wanem) teraz juz nie robia takich gier
CLEAN UP WHERE OTHERS HAVE GONE BEFORE :)
or
TRAVERSE WHERE NO ONE TRAVERSED BEFORE :D
Oh my god, the music is absolutely AMAZING! This is what they call love at first glance! ...I guess that doesn't make any sense..
1:26:23 "I demand satisfaction!"
"Your last girlfriend also made that demand!"
didn't roger go to a library at some point? i could have sworn there was a scene at a library or something like that.

No problem. ^.^ If can direct you to anything for the fan games or any other material, I'd be happy to try and help.
No problem ^.^ After you've played 1-5, you should find the 2nd edition of the SQ Companion, it has the games as told from "Roger's view"
yes, great recollect my childhood
How could you leave Spikey behind!?
Not exactly, considering you fell in love with a sound XD
But we get what you mean.
Couldn't tell ya, I was too blinded by the glare off his head. : D
Heheheh good luck, again! :)
(Both with the graduation, and with the Sierra marathons thereafter ;3)
14:38
D'OH!
That would be glorious...
Quest for A+: Math
I like SQ4 a lot, but I'm rather partial to time travel story-lines. XD
I do like how much fun you can have with the taste and smell icons. : 3
Ah, the original Zapp Brannigan!
I'm thinking of getting Quest for Glory & Police Quest too. Although Space Quest is first :3
Thanks for all the info :D Very helpful of you.
1 person got stuck and smashed their Amiga in a rage
Alrighty then! SQ1 VGA it is!
Firstly, anyhow. Then I'll play SQ5. What are your thoughts on SQ4?
(FUTURAMA FTW!)
Airlock button right above the elevator button no wonder the other captain died XD
Heya!
I've played Space Quest now for a bit, although I think they're kind of hard. Really love them though.
Now, my question is, or w/e you want to call it;
What are your thoughts on the Quest For Glory series?
My 286 couldn't handle it. Bought a 386 Great game
Personally, I think Quirk is like Zapp in personality, and Roger is Fry. XD
Though the look is similar
How did space quest 4 have dialogue but not this one...
4 ~ Ur an explorer ~ 5 ~ Ur a space lord ~ 6 ~ Ur Ken williams
best atmosphere
Oh, alright xD Hmm... What do you think of the other "Quest" games? (ie. "Quest for glory")
great game, wise they would make more of them
Ah, thanks for the amazon link and the comic is awesome :'D
Nor should you. ^.^ It does have a excellent soundtrack. I like SQ4's more myself, especially the countdown.
I say play SQ1 VGA first since it's the first game (and you won't get frustrated by the parser interface right away.)

What a classic!
Is it just me, or does one of the officers at the meeting early on look sort of like Captain Picard from Star Trek: TNG?
Well, then I'll check it out in two months. I got two classes before I graduate and I don't wanna screw that up by having Sierra marathons. XD Thanks!
Зелёная Жижа - это Баракка.
Sind die Schiffe des Gegners bei dem "Schiefe versenken"-Minigame immer gleich gesetzt oder wie kommt das, dass du genau wusstest, wo seine Schiffe sind?
I'll need more help with the classes, for there are no walkthroughs for them. *sigh*
Oh!
Welp.
Good luck!
Hope I didn't distract you :)
lol they got sued for many of them too, though Sprint was a sponsor.
Any good with Financial management? The other class is just hard in the manner of impressing the teacher with my research and writing skills. I swear if I could write a paper on Sierra games, I'd have an easy A.
ALSO, is it worth it to get a bundle with SQ 1 + 2 + 3?
Or should I get the 4 + 5 + 6 one?
A moment to respond to a comment? That's no trouble. Playing an adventure game for 42 hours straight? That's an obs- er distraction.
3:42. Does that look like the Millennium Falcon to anyone else?
Anyway, this game was my fav of the series. I remember that robot babe with the bible metal boobs. Good times, I also liked the mall level in SQ3
I thought that was Space Quest 4
I know that a save and restore feature would be handy XD
Wasn't there a CD talkie version ?
They're both extreme versions of Captain Kirk, really.
8:21 D) and then later StarCraft BroodWar Terran Campaign the emperor's flight happend^^
One question, which SQ game is the best? Or, which one should I play first? (Your answer will be the first SQ game I play, so choose carefully! >:D)
Hm. What are the classes and what do you need help with?
Maybe I can help? :3
Well, who woulda thunk it?
does anyone else think roger looks like conan o'brian?
What's with those annoying clicking noises at the academy?
That would be fucking amazing......!
If you still had your memories when you restored, of course...
Although, the teachers would get a little suspicious after getting to know me better...
16:16 security clearance alpha beyond this point
I REGRET NOTHING
Gordon.F
ITS GORDON FREEMAN :D
From where you got the code at 0:40:33 ?
or does Conan look like Roger? :p
Oh great. Well thanks for offering anyway.
Projection eeeeh?
I don't think I know anything that YOU don't :|
Well of course XD
Hm. Maybe...
What exactly do you want help with? Financial management in general?
Oh god I hate that.. Impressing teachers...
If only Sierra games were school subjects. *dreaming*
59:09
You said it. (siiiigh)
They look fun, based on what I've seen but I've never owned any of the games. It's more out of sheer laziness to find them than non-interest.
Ja tycker ytrt
3:00:10
Ah if only XD
Wow.... as a kid I only made it to like 2300 score then got stuck... nice to finally see how the whole story goes
