I don't know if you have Thanksgiving there on Thursday. But I want to wish you and the family a happy Thanksgiving . From Neil schwerdt in west valley city Utah
Another great video. What are they doing to the old station? Noticed a fence around it. Was lucky to stay there twice. I know they railway still had signaling equipment under what was the old signal box. When staying there at night you could hear the relays energising. Shame Jim was unable to renew the lease.
Thanks Robert! They are replacing most of the ceilings , as the box gutter has been blocked for years. The relay room is /has been relocated to the small white hut at the end of the platform. I always slept in the signal cabin when I stayed...only a few meters from the tracks! I've been in the old relay room when I was chatting to some fellow signal sparkies during a visit. FOnd memories of staying and thats how I found my block:-). Gregg :-)
87 F here today. Still cutting grass. Another storm going hit FL east coast. Train show this past week end sold more good friends Jims trains passed in April. Small show but right people showed up. $ got almost 5000 for more of his trains.
Thanks Tubby! I like this location as well...and in light rain , the huge pine trees are a good shelter. I did notice the EMD was looking very flash! Cheers Gregg.
@@FishplateFilms What sort of Pine tree are they? I know the Silesians landed in Adelaide first, are they from their homeland or elsewhere? Mt Lofty doesn't look like anywhere else in Australia to me.
@@TubbyLunchboxLovesLocos I don't know exactly Tubby? When I had the huge ones removed from my block , the arborist did tell me but I forgot! They are not native and are becoming a pest , as they outgrow the local trees. Adelaide was the only ( I think) capital city that was not a convict town , so people chose to move there. The Hills proved popular with the europeans , as they were cooler than the flat plains where the city is.so they planted lots of trees from their home countries. Stirling certainly does have a Euro feel , with all the Oak and Birch trees, and of course the Pines! Can't wait to move there :-) Gregg.
Thanks Greg (or is it Gregg?). Nice little video. If you can be bothered, an explanation of wheel/rail/flange greasing could be interesting - and how they might be modelled.
Thanks Andrew! I will put together a video on the greaser in the near future🙂 I have seen them modelled before, lots of black on the track in each direction !! Cheers Gregg (gg) 🙂
Gidday Gregg I recently took the Overlander from Melbourne to Adelaide in early Jan while on holiday from NZ would we have gone through here on that train?...
Hello , the Overland is a great trip and yes , you did go past my block! It's easy to miss , as you come up the hill and round the curve pretty quick ans pass through the station. I have done it myself and almost missed my own place..LOL. Thanks for watching. CHeers Gregg.
we have had some crazy rain this year all the main dams are at full capacity for a change................and my layout has progressed to testing grades before laying track proper.....
ME TOO !! They are replacing the ceilings, as the box gutter has been leaking for years apparently. SO i hope they are going to use it after that? Gregg 🙂
@@FishplateFilms Having contacted the minster there is serious consideration of Standardisation of Belair. As to permit access to Mount Barker station. I can confirm such a thing is plausible.
G'Day Gregg. Tis good to see a new vid from you matey. As always, top notch. Loved the "under the pines" shot, gave it a nice mix up. Always interested in all train details matey, you know that, so spill the beans, slap the on button and slop on the grease and do tell. 🤠
Thanks Gibs! I do like this new spot as its shady on sunny days and pretty dry even in medium rain! SO I guess I'm doing a greaser video..LOL Cheers, Gregg 🙂
Thank you! The CSR's do work hard , and being medium speed engines (1400 rpm) they sound even mo re busy, compared to EMD and GE at about 900 rpm. Cheers Gregg.
Hi Gregg, always enjoy these videos. I'm looking forward to when you can resume work on your layout. I'm building one at the moment and have found a lot of good suggestions in your videos. All the best for the new year. John
Thanks John! I'm actually getting closer to pulling the layout down , and getting ready to move it to my my home.......here at Mt Lofty! As soon as I find a builder , the layout will be dismantled and stored , ready to make a larger one in it's new home! Glad you got some tips from my videos , and there will be more once the new layout is underway! Chers Gregg.
What are some examples of locomotives operating along the Mount Lofty road that require double or triple the number of units to achieve the same traction? Cheers, Joe.
Yes it is! My land stops at the platform retaining wall , and to the right is heading to Adelaide. To the left is back to Melbourne. Thanks for watching! Gregg.
Interesting how they grease the top of the rails. Those were some long trains. It’s getting colder here in Nebraska. No snow yet. How are things going down there? Hopefully soon you can break ground for the new house. Cheers from Terry in Nebraska.
Thanks Terry! They also grease the sides down the hill a bit, but this one is for a different reason , which I will cover in a future video. Had a great time in Stirling, even with the rain, nice and cool with no humidity! Will be looking for new builders in the new year. Cheers Gregg.
Excellent video, as usual. Those are some massively large diesels and must have a lot of horsepower to navigate those tracks. Thank you for sharing. (Greasing the top of the rails? No wheel slippage?) Cheers Gregg!
Thanks very much Bob! They are not as big as your's over in the US mate:-). But they are bigger than the narrow gauge ones in my home state of Queensland. I will do a video on the greaser soon , as it is interesting . Cheers, Gregg.
Can you help me please I'm trying to speed match my new athearn es44 with my intermountain et44... But the intermountain is much faster than the athearn ..speed tables are the same and the forward trim and reverse trim are the same
Hi James, I assume they are both Tsunami's ? If it's an older IM , especially with the old motor, they are a real pain in the ass! The new ones are better I'm told? You have to adjust the fwd and rv trim i(CV 66 795) n the Intermountain. Having the same values means very little, especially with different makes. If you haven't already , watch my video( Programming Tsunami decoders for realistic operation") and see what other cv you need to change. I also have a video on Tsunami 2 if the IM has one of those. Good luck :-)
@@FishplateFilms no sir...the IM is a loke sound select. Older but not real old probably not going to happen...there very difficult to program without a loke programmer hard to speed match with scale trains even...thank you for your time
Great video Gregg. I was wondering if there’s any passenger service that rolls past the station? Also were those all door box cars that rolled by on the second train? I always look forward to the next video, keep up the good work mate. Cheers Scottie
Thanks Scottie! The Overland runs from Adelaide to Melbourne twice a week, but doesn't stop at Lofty. The Adelaide . broad gauge suburban network stops at the bottom of the hill at Belair. Yes they were boxcars! SCT made a big thing out of running " less than container" loads for customers, and it has paid off , as at least half off their trains are box cars. A ot are full of food and are refrigerated . Cheers Gregg.
Excellent video Gregg.
Thank you Sir!

What are some examples of locomotives operating along the Mount Lofty road that require double or triple the number of units to achieve the same traction? Cheers, Joe.
The NR's are pretty hard to beat for traction , as are the GWU and SCT units. These all require double locos to replace them.
