SSPs had the same powertrain/drivetrain as 'civilian' 5.0L cars. So for 1982 the H.O. 5.0L was rated at 157 hp and 240 torque, 4-speed manual overdrive transmission, and 3.08:1 Traction-Lok rear.
@@foxchassis thanks SE. Was wondering what the big hoopdy-doo is with SSP's..,Only diff is HD suspension and reinforced floor pan(s) from what I've heard. Crystals uncle drove an 84 4 speed SSP and a 90 auto SSP, both NCHP cars, during his 20 plus year career. He said in one chase he hit 142 with the auto car. Good stuff.
I drove the car everywhere. Took kids to school, grocery store, Costco, Sam's Club, autocross the car, Pigeon Forge TN, all over Middle TN. Had a great time with the car. Finding the car in the first place was a story unto itself!
I first seen this SSP at The Mustang Museum of America, I was blown away at seeing it. I would have thought the very first SSP would have been destroyed/crashed years ago. Awesome car, awesome video!
Now that is a SUPER kool SSP....amazing piece of history! I really dig the board and all the documentation. I would love to own an SSP one day. Great video as always!!
I actually went to odensville Alabama weekend before last! Mustang museum of America! Everyone should go check it out. They have the most ssp car collection i have ever seen! Its in between Talladega and Birmingham.
Robert is a great guy. I met him in Bowling Green several years ago at the swap meet. Sold him a few stock parts. It's kinda cool because I run into him on occasion at some of the Mustang shows or nmra races.
Hey gearhead do kinda like the foxbody mustang? LOL i have to admit I love them too there is something about them . I own a 89 that I absolutely love but Them 4 eyes are pretty bad ass too 😀🔥
Yeah, I guess we are all FoxBody's all the time over here LOL. Well occasionally I do have the truck on here hah hah. I love 89's as that is tarheelfox's year
I got mine for $5,000 but it's in pieces. I guess I would sell it as is condition for $5,000 with no motor, trans, missing spider gears, and cowl still needs to be welded on LOL
That's freaking badass that you got to sit in that car I have an article framed about that car "the one that started it all" on the title I believe I haven't looked at it in a while I have it packed away at my mom's house unfortunately but I love that car it's an amazing condition pits looks like a really good time man! thanks for keeping up with the awesome videos I fell behind like 3.5 vlogs for a little bit and I'm catching up right now😁 LOL!!!oh and the thing about the nail for the stopping distance measurement is crazy never knew what that was for...
That's cool about you having that article, definitely should dig that up and sometime and the nail fact really threw me off, but was so neat! No worries on getting behind man, I appreciate any video you watch of mine. Thanks much.
Really cool video Matt you Naillled it lol. That SSP is truly a piece of history! If you noticed the seat headrest they are from a 90-93. I wonder if that's something they put back on those seats then or was added later. That made me scratch my head on that 1!
Definitely a piece of history, I didn't notice that, but I know they kept the car until 93, so I wonder if they made some upgrades over the years at the CHP.
Was this the ponies in the smokies in Sevier County? I live about 45 minutes away the wife and I were going to go but decided not to because of the bad weather
It's a shot in the dark, but if it was me it would take upwards of $50,000 to even start talking to someone, but it's a special car so I doubt he would ever sell it.
HUGE Thanks to Robert for letting me share this amazing piece of FoxBody history on my channel.
Hi Matt, do you know the engine and performance specs for this ssp?
HP/TQ/trans/rear gears/top speed/etc. Thanks man. Great videos!

@@gmorgan9749 If you haven't seen it yet I cover a lot of the common SSP facts in this video. ua-cam.com/video/EeTcO0bMaRw/v-deo.html
My dad and I purchased one of our two Minnesota State Patrol SSPs from Robert last summer. Super nice guy!
Very cool! I had the same experience getting to talk to him. Genuine dude.

The 1984 was actually a 1983 model. NCSHP had 1983 and 1985 SSPs but not 1984. And the 4-speed wasn't available in 1984.
@@foxchassis you are correct it must have been the 83. I will have to look up his pic again.
Love hearing this history Willie. Man at 142 I bet that FoxBody was floating pretty good, had to be fun LOL
NCHP?

The wood grain brings back memories of my old 82 hatch.
Hey Jason, been a minute! Yes and this one was still in such great shape.
I drove the car everywhere. Took kids to school, grocery store, Costco, Sam's Club, autocross the car, Pigeon Forge TN, all over Middle TN. Had a great time with the car. Finding the car in the first place was a story unto itself!
That's way cool man, one day we'll have to get that part of the story too.
Amazing ride and so glad it's still shown to the public!
Definitely Chet and sorry you didn't win 4 to 8 buddy.
Love seeing restored ssp cars
Lot of SSP's at the show, so many more coming.
Last of the V8 interceptors, a real piece of history, har!
Yeah, it's amazing to think it started an 11 year run of SSP Mustangs in police service.
Nice car Robert. I drove the piss out of it when I owned it!!!!
He spoke very highly of you Mike. Looks like you took good care of it. Great to hear you drove it too LOL
Awesome piece of SSP history!
Indeed! I was shocked this car was there.
I first seen this SSP at The Mustang Museum of America, I was blown away at seeing it. I would have thought the very first SSP would have been destroyed/crashed years ago. Awesome car, awesome video!
It's amazing it survived and it's really in great condition. I loved all the repaints and I"m glad I got to see it at PITS
I really enjoy your SSP coverage. It is content within content. You are educating the masses on how special & rare these cars have become.
Thanks, I just love the SSP's so much. They were really something back in the day. I appreciate your support.
Love the SSP. You have to love the Four Eyes!
I do now, they've really grown on me.

The ssp is a interesting piece of mustang history. Liked the nail gun story, different paint themes were cool. Thanks for the video
I love that nail gun story, didn't see that one coming!
Beautiful SSP! Awesome video 👍
Definitely! Thanks a lot Chuckles
I remember watching the tv show CHiPs when I was a kid and they had a few Mustang patrol cars.
I was thinking of CHiPs the other day and wondered if they had one on the show. I'll have to look for ir.
