Lyrics:
You look up at me
And somewhere in your mind you see
A man I'll never be
If only I could find a way
I'd feel like I'm the man you believe I am
And it's getting harder every day for me
To hide behind this dream you see
A man I'll never be
#Boston #AManIllNeverBe #OfficialVideo
I danced to this song with my wife in her hospital room the day before she died. I chose it because she wanted me to continue in life and be the same man I was the past 26 years we were together. I've tried but that was a man I'll never be again
Man, I'm so sorry!
Remember the good times.
True pain, sorry brother. Try to be satisfied with the great memories. But there is no antidote. The hole in your heart won't be filled. Try to be grateful for what you had. That's what I try to do, it helps.
Brad Delp was so underrated as a rock and roll singer to me he had one of the best voices he had so much range and smoothness and ease to hit the high notes he was unbelievable
I’m so sorry. My late husband used to play this for me. He was a brilliant musician. I feel your sadness. It’s a shitty club being widowed. We don’t want anymore members.
Brad Delp the most underrated vocalist in rock n roll. He’s definitely among the best. Top 5 easily. RIP Brad.
In my top five, also, along with John Lawton and Layne Staley.
Excuse me, I'm not from your first world or English speaking, but as an old musician I will tell you that Brad Delp has always been one of the best Rock singers in history and John Lawton one of the best Hard Rock expressionists. His big problem is having been superior to other established vocalists in famous bands in the music industry, the hypocrisy of the bourgeois Punk fashion and the aesthetic and sound dictatorship of the 80's destabilized and harmed the bands of these wonderful singers, in the case of Staley it was the unique of the hateful Grunge good to listen to, honestly
He deserved to be in a better and good heavy band, in my opinion, the Kurt Cubain era contributed more in visual digitalization and was extremely disposable musically. Regarding Delp and Lawton, my heart knows that they have never been underestimated, rather they have been envied.
@@rafaeldossantos4791 What I mean by underrated is when supposed “experts” on the subject never bring up his name when talking about the best vocalists. Even the casual rock fan knows Robert Plant was the lead vocalist for Led Zeppelin and Freddy Mercury was the lead vocalist for Queen. Although Boston didn’t have quite the catalog of songs of either, very few could even tell you Brad Delp was Boston’s vocalist. I know that Boston isn’t as popular as either, but Boston’s debut album has had more airplay on radio than any album in the history of rock. And EVERY Boston song that Brad sang was a vocal masterpiece. But real fans of rock music such as yourself do indeed know the truth. I also kinda get your comments about Layne but Alice In Chains is a very highly respected band despite being a Grunge band. Their album Dirt is widely regarded as a masterpiece in rock history.
@@mikee2923
We continue with the same problem then, Grunge was more fashion than music, it consisted of putting a young model dressed in a lumberjack shirt posing in front of a camera while the press overrated them with myths of heavy drug use so that the fans would crown them as if They were Jim Morrison, but musically they were totally mediocre, today nobody remembers Grunge (Luckily) but Brad Delp does.
@@rafaeldossantos4791 You say you don’t live in the US. Drug addiction was a main component of most Grunge music. Layne Staley’s drug use was notorious. Alice In Chains masterpiece album Dirt was mainly songs written about drug addiction. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, widely regarded as the king of Grunge was also a notorious drug user. These musicians weren’t models dressed like lumberjacks. Most of them were never considered sex symbols. They dressed like they did because of where they were from. Grunge was based in Seattle, Washington in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. This was how most people dressed that lived there. Also the Grunge era followed the hair metal trend that dominated American music during much of the 1980s and they wanted to distinguish themselves from that era and briefly took rock music in a new direction. Their songs were mainly about drug addiction, loneliness and being outcasts where most 80s music revolved around sex and partying. Grunge was the exact polar opposite of hair band pop metal music. Popular music in the United States is usually influenced by the mood and feelings of the young generation. To be brutally honest, the 1980s was the last period of optimism in the United States. It has steadily gone downhill since then. I’m 55 and I feel sorry for the youth of today. What we called the American dream is basically out of reach to most young people today. They have been brainwashed into believing our country is evil and needs to be destroyed. They will eventually vote in more socialism and eventually communism at which point the United States will cease to exist.
Brad Delp, I'm so sorry that you didn't find peace in this world! You had an amazing voice & touched many lives!😢
God wanted to hear his singing in person
Simply amazing voice!! Saw Boston twice in concert!! Amazing!!
Fly high❤❤❤
Well said
The best ❤
Brad's voice is missed can't be duplicated
For sure!
RIP Brad Delp what a voice
You, ain't just whistling Dixie (oh, shoot, not PC....well fuck it and the horse it rode in on!) there, son.....
Brad Delp's voice was a gift from God, it's a shame he took his own life.
RIP Brad we miss you...
I wish he knew he was the man he'd never be to us...just makes me so sad.
Men are forced to hold themselves to unrealistic standards. This deprives us of attaining our potential and best selves to benefit society.
My heart continually hurts for the loss of Brad Delp. YOU are Boston!

God that man could sing! I wish he would have talked to someone and gotten help instead of taking his own life.....😢

This is how it is done boys & girls of today's so called music talent...
@jessie, that is a brilliant statement, because most of the crap nowadays is unbearable,
Long live 70's, 80's.

I listen to the album version and compared it to live and I really think this is lip syncing at its finest.
Check out the drums coming in at 39 seconds and tell me those taps are making that sound.....

@@deannam5721 Definitely lip synching. Brittany Spears type lip synching.
@Deanna M - no doubt this was dubbed over. But it’s not the same as the recording from the album.
@@deannam5721 Very observant! I’m a recording engineer/producer & the live performance audio is taken out. You are correct that what you’re hearing is the album recording (edited w no guitar solo though). I’m sure the song needed to be shortened for a live performance to keep the song under 4 mins. The full length album version is 6:38.
I've listened to Boston's songs since i was 18 years old, now I'm 64 and still having goosebumps listening to this song. Brad Delp you're being missed. RIP man. 😔
I'm 63 and I feel the same.

This band is amazing and gives me goosebumps as well...Music can be different but never better than Boston!
Honestly one of the most underrated songs ever.
So agree. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
Enough with using the term underrated.
Why??? When something ISNT rated AS HIGH as it should be you call it UNDERrated. When something is rated HIGHER than it should be you call it OVERrated. What exactly is your problem with that sir???
@@HighSpeedNoDrag what word should they use then?...
@@rmbuilder1 Well, I suppose I am O.C.D. about certain words and phrases that commenters extoll. I have no answer it just seems the "overrated" verbiage has gained momentum during the past 4 years or so.
One of the best songs ever written. RIP Brad Delp. I love this because it makes me realise i should be better than i am.
How can a song that I’ve listened to for 40+ years, still bring tears to my eyes.....
Glad I am not the only one.

Delphi was under pressure to follow Scmidts dictates.A bit of bad chemistry unfolded with Brad feeling deleted from the love of his life,Boston.
In his mind he needed to escape the pressures of stardom.

Yes indeed
I agree definitely a goosebump song. I have to listen to it at least one time everyday. It still upsets me that Brad took his own life. Long Live Boston
Man! Those of us that grew up in the 70's had the best music. Almost every week from 74-79 one of the classics came out. The bands: Boston, Van Halen, Eagles, Skynyrd the list goes on and on.
Absolutely was a smorgasbord of solid music.
Stolen my thought exactly. Man if you could just go back and relive it.
Wishbone Ash
I was 14 and had a crush, Brad Delp brother of Wendy my friend. He and his band would practice in his barn at his family's home on Conant Street in Danvers Massachusetts. Approaching his house with Wendy I could hear them playing and wanted to sit there for hours to listen. I also lived and grew up in Danvers. He was so handsome when he was a young man with such great talent even then. He became even more handsome as he got older. I thought...he's going places, and he certainly did. I cried when I heard we lost him. He is sorely missed by all that he touched with his music and his love for life. He lived it well. We miss you!
Try every week from 1967 to 1979. we were SO LUCKY to be born into the pinnacle of musical creativity. Proof: everywhere you go and everywhere you see its classic rock from the 60's -70's
One of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL songs ever.
Brad is one of the great voices of our century.
Del Shoemaker he sure was. I love his voice.
He sings with so heart in his voice. The other successors don't seem to have that heart when they sing, just hits the notes.
so much heart
I didn't know Barry's vocals are right there with Brad's voice
You got that right Del🙂
I don’t always listen to Boston, but when I do so do my neighbors
That's the only way to listen to them!! Turn it up!!
I get you lol
Exactly I know the feeling I'm guilty of the same thing.
Haaa. Good one
Boston is my Neighbors favorite band, weather they like it or not😜😋😃🙊!!!
probably the most ahead of their time band and do not get the respect they deserve no question
Amazing that a rock song written almost 50 years ago, can still be so moving and inspiring. The songwriting, tone, musicianship, harmonies, and vocals were way ahead of its time. And for all this to be done by two young men in their makeshift recording studio in a downstairs residential basement blows my mind. First two albums were runaway hits! Tom Scholz and Brad Delp were a match made in Heaven. Incredible albums that are still on continual radio airplay to this day. This tells you how good the music of Boston really is…
Thank goodness you know how it really went down. Tom was a genius and I wish I had a vocal range like Brad's. Two of the best they EVER were, and underappreciated at best.
I couldn't agree more. At 61, I'm trying to expose my grandsons to the greatest music ever
Can’t get my daughter to get into Boston yet, but at least she loves Rush and Triumph. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad (pun intended).
I got to know this band through my dad. We only have their first album in cd but I love all their songs. I just love when it comes on mainly on 100.3 the bus.
The way Tom makes his guitar sing just blows my mind. I think Barry's back-up vocals are often overlooked too.
I’d give damn near anything to go back to the time when this music was new, and so would most anybody over 60 that I know! Excellent tunes, not like today’s crap.
Couldn't agree more!! Except for bringing the age down to 50+! lol, 😄👍
@@troymanzey3635
You can bring it down even more to 40+ 😬. I was born one year after debut album came out and heard my first Boston song at the age of 16 (More Than A Feeling)... I can still remember how excited I was buying that CD, I played it non stop. Miss those days.
Would luv to c em again with Delp that'll never happen but enjoyed it while he wuz here
imagine that you had a delorian car and programm it to go on every live concert of 70's and 80's!
Damn time !
@@MidwestCoinHunter I can tell you first hand, I was 17 when this album came out. I heard More Than A Feeling on the radio the day it was released, and I raced to the record store and bought it. I played it all night long and of course made a cassette copy of it. I just couldn't believe that every song was as good as the next. It is still my favorite album of all time.
One of the greatest bands to EVER exist
The Greatest Band Ever
Being from Toledo I am definitely proud of the fact that Tom is also from Toledo. Founder, song writer and lead guitar you would think the bands name would be Toledo.

I know, right? I'm 61 and wondering where the years went. This song always tugged at my heart. I was a teen, and now...well, I'm just old.
I'm 67 been to 54 concerts in my lifetime, have seen most all of the classic bands dating back to 1971, Boston was the best sounding show ever, sounded like they were tracking the albums, Irvine meadows Ca, 1983
He was lip syncing in this video.
IKR !!! This live sounds like their studio recording
Delp's vocal range and that of the other band members was phenomenal. You know your music is good when it's still popular 5 decades later.
I agree and became a fan later after Delp passed away. So sad he did not get the help he needed. RIP, sir.
That's Delp singing harmony with himself. This is a live visual synced to the studio version of the song.
Amen!
Always thought he had the most AMAZING voice I’ve ever heard in rock music….he’s at the top of my list! It truly breaks my heart that he couldn’t seem to see/value himself the way others did.

Boston should have been in the hall of fame a hundred times over. Their ability to harmonize the way they did was simply beautiful to listen to. Brad you are missed by millions and will never be forgotten!!
All harmonies on the recorded tracks were Brad's. 100% all Brad's.
Damn right dude
Agreed! The HOF is really the HOS......Hall of Shame! Grand Funk Railroad has been around longer than Boston, and I think was the best hard rock band that ever came out of America. They're not in either. We should start a real hall of fame somewhere.....
All the vocal harmonies on the record were all brad. Live they used a harmonizer on brads voice. I believe Tom Scholz designed and built it. Tom's tone was the frequency at which his wah was hardwired to.
Hall of Shit! Boston doesn't need their endorsement

He said after the hair, makeup and costume was put on him, that when he opened his eyes and looked at himself in the mirror and saw someone else staring back at him, he said was a very affirming and reassuring moment. There needs to be a movie on the life of Brad Delp! Would be worth a look!!

Brad Delp had such an amazing voice! He was so talented and such a good man. His passing and the circumstances make me so sad. His music lives on though! RIP Brad Delp🙏
It's funny that so many Millennials and Gen Z are rocking out to our greats of the '70s and '80s... I remember listening to these songs thinking how could it get any better musically? It never did. We're all still stuck on these greats. Brad Delp, what a powerhouse.
I count myself lucky to have seen these guys in the 70s when music was music!
Same here. Saw them in Charlotte NC in the late 70’s
summer of 79 in the Meadowlands
I would give both of my breaststroke to have seen them in the 70's I'll take my brother John along for the ride!
Thanks to Tom Scholtz too, for the wonderfull music.
Tom Scholtz IS Boston.

One of the best songs ever!!!
“A man I’ll never be”. It’s that moment of self-honesty when you realize that all those crazy dreams from your youth are just never gonna come true. You’ll never be that rock star, or movie star. You’ll never get that PHD, or probably ever be rich. The possibilities seem to dry up as we get older. All you can realistically do is continue working towards retirement, accumulate smiles, and drink as many beers as possible. You transfer your hopes and dreams on to your grandchildren. It was a very humbling experience indeed..😊
Yes, the hopes, dreams and best laid plans. Where did they go.
Well said my man
Well said😀
I feel you brother , but there must be a reason , I think you hit the nail on the head w/ the grandchildren , we still got work to do brother... PEACE
"Self Honesty " I like that. That's exactly the point in your life, if you are honest with yourself that you realize and come to terms with who you really are. I always wanted to be a rock star, spent many years trying. Found out later that I was meant to be a dad star, raised 3 wonderful kids on my own and now enjoying spoiling my sweet granddaughter.
R.I.P. Bradley
