In 2024, I play this song almost every day. The late Helen Reddy had many hits during the 1970's and 1980's. She could still sing her songs in the same key as the original when she was in her 70's. She passed away in 2020 at age 78. RIP sweet lady, and THANK YOU!!, for your great songs.
You and me against the world. Helen Reddy. My mumma used to sing it to me as a child as we were very poor as my daddy walked out on us when I was just 3 and it was just her and me left at home after my big sisters were married young and we didn’t have money for things many people call necessities but we were always there for each other. When she was in hospital after being told she was too weak to have surgery to remove her bowel obstruction following a stroke I sat next to her in her last hours and sang it back to her.
To my beautiful husband in heaven"" I guess remembering will have to do" "Think about the days of you and me, the days of me and you" My memories will carry me through!. Thank you Helen Reddy for this moving song...Jani
I chuckled when you said, " a lady named Helen Reddy". I forget your age sometimes. Helen was one of the most popular singers of the 70s & even had her own television show. She`s a native of Australia but immigrated to the States. She passed away two years ago. She left behind some great work.
Please review her version of I dont know how to love him' from Jesus Christ Superstar was a huge hit that got her way more noticed, She also helped Olivia get the role in GREASE...from a Massive Fan of you in Southern Australia....and YES we love Helen and Olivia !!! xx
Never cared much for this song as a teenager. Now I'm 58, and I understand the meaning of "Remembering will have to do...our memories alone will get us through." Now it's my favorite Helen Reddy song, after 'Candle On the Water."
On the album, there is a little girl who says "Tell me again, Mommy" ... then the song starts. At the end of the song, she says " I love you Mommy .." to which Helen replies, " I love you too Baby" .. it breaks me every time .. this is one that I used to sing to my daughter, having her at 21 years old .. her father and I split a few years after .. My mom passed away in 2006 from cancer. She was only 56. I haven't heard this song in decades, and this just popped up on UA-cam. I'm in tears now, but that's ok. I miss her every day.
Today would have been my Mom's Birthday. She passed a couple years ago now. She sang this to me all the time while growing up. Then we sang it together when I was older. In her last days, I lay my head on the side of her hospital bed, and I played this through my phone. She couldn't talk or sing, but reached down and weakly stroked my hair. That was the last time I saw her. On her birthday like today, or whenever I am feeling blue, I come to you tube to find this song. It always makes me smile.
