    I had a house fire and I couldn't meet insulation code on my 2x4 walls unless I went with spray foam. The insurance company didn't even blink and approved the foam install. They know that older houses will have to be sprayed to meet current code

    When I bought a house in Lloydminster I couldn't get insurance because for polyB piping unless I had proof of remediation in 90 days. It can happen, but it would take more than a few bad installs before the insurance companies wouldn't cover a house. That being said I will get some photos of the underside of my roof, before spraying just in case.

      Yes, there have been many claims with water pipes bursting. Insurance can make almost any demands they like. I was told they'd drop my deductible and increase the coverage for my basement if I installed a back flow prevention valve.
      I live on a hill, so I never did it.

    The only time I heard of an issue with an insurance company was when I installed Lapolla 2000 4g on the roof of a steel ag shop and they threatened to drop my customer if it didn’t have a thermal barrier installed over it.

    Hey thanks for all the great fact based content! I am about to finish the ceiling in my pole barn home and was thinking of adding blow in fiberglass between the finished ceiling and the 2.5 inches of closed cell foam I have on the under side of the roof sheathing. My plan is to add 2x4 framing to the bottom of the top cord of my trusses 2 foot on center to attach my ceiling to. This will leave me with about a 6 inch gap between the foam and the ceiling. I wanted to see what your opinion is on doing this as a way to add additional insulation. I was planning to use a plastic vapor barrier on the inside of the additional framing I am adding. I filled my wall cavities in this manner and it has made a great difference in reducing the amount of interior air current resulting from air cooling from conduction at upstairs windows and falling down to the floor. Advice welcome, you are the expert!

      No.
      I am getting calls already from USA flash and batt jobs that have water dripping down the face of 2" of SPF with 6" of roxul in front of them.
      Ditch this idea and leave it alone, lest you come to a cold spell and the same fate.

    how can I watch so many videos on spray foam; I do. The science is great. Question-our house was built in 1978. The Attic has original insulation w pink plastic wrapped around insulation sitting on the attic floor. I need to redo the attic insulation. Would it make sense to clean up all insulation, and spray foam the floor in the attic or would you recommend something else?

    Hello Mike, Really like the videos. I've heard people say the closed cell foam is loud during heavy rain fall. Whereas the open cell foam is better for sound control. Can open cell be sprayed on top of the closed cell to help with sound proofing?

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  7 місяців тому +1

      Not always. Can change the dynamics of heat and moisture flow.
      Foam isn't that loud - a lot of cry babies out there that have nothing else to talk about.

    Mike, thanks for the videos. I want to apply closed-cell spray foam to the underside of a tongue-and-groove roof deck from the 1950s that has been treated with Bora-Care (termite/rot prevention). Do you think that I'll have adhesion issues due to the Bora-Care? The wood would be warm and dry, and I'm assuming that I won't mess up the application process. I don't plan to pre-clean the wood in any way.

      I am thinking 99% it'll be fine, but honestly I am not familiar with that product.

    I have a question, what’s the brand you use for spray foam? I live in New Brunswick Canada and getting quotes now and the 3 companies use different brands of spray foam, how do I know what’s a good brand or not?
