The entire video is WHINING about the most stupid points imaginable, like how bad is killing "people" on a VIDEO GAME! Hillariouss... Lets do more politically correct games and media for this guy.
Uncharted 2 will always be my favorite game of all time. I played it launch day October 13, 2009 and once I got to the locomotion chapter my jaw dropped! That was my first “jaw drop” moment playing a video game!
Not gonna lie bruh I think we wouldn’t like each other, this amount of whining for perfectly enjoyable combat and story in the first uncharted is hilarious.
Then again I played the game as a child and it has major nostalgia over me but I was never bored with the combat in on remastered play throughs
I’m not saying you should do major Naughty Dog series again right away, but I would love to see a critique on the Jak and Daxter series.
11:22 So you’re the bad guy now if you refuse to let people kill you, take your property and or harm your loved ones? To my knowledge just like Indiana Jones, Nathan Drake only kills people who are trying to kill him.
It doesn’t matter if it’s one or one-hundred people. Is there some point where you would just let one of a hundred people trying to murder you, do so because you feel sorry about killing all the rest?
Buddy you must have a really warped morality system if you’re trying to guilt, shame and make someone feel in the wrong for doing nothing more than defending their life and livelihood.
Love that your not afraid of uploading a video this long. Most people would maybe cut it at an hour or two for fear that the video would be abandoned by the algorithm. We all appreciate the time and effort you put in for us Luke! Cannot wait to get through this video :)
The original videos are 1-4 hours.

Re: Nathan Drake actually being bad.
I never really buy this idea when it's presented in most stories, and I don't buy it here in Uncharted either. The difference is that the bad guys are pretty much always trying to kill the protagonist first. Nathan, and most protagonists that are accused of this, are only ever killing people who are trying (or would obviously start trying if given the chance) to kill them. If they were simply in some kind of non-lethal race against the bad guy to get the artifact, they wouldn't be killing anybody. The bad guy is always the cause/catalyst of the killing, even the killing that the protagonist does in self defense.
It's like in a movie with cliche writing where the good guy is told not to kill the bad guy because "then we'll just be the same as them," and this almost always rings completely hollow. Killing someone who's trying to kill you for no good reason is not the moral equivalent of what the bad guy is doing in killing people for no good reason.
I very much agree with you
THANK YOU!! I wish I could like this comment 20 more times
I agree Nathan mostly kills out of self defense or “kill or be killed” since almost every enemy shoots to kill on sight but a point I never see anyone talk about is how Nate is having a lot more fun than he should when he kills these guys
@@AHappyBlackGuy
Haha
Yes, THAT'S true. In real life, that would be kind of psychopathic behavior, because he doesn't even seem to care that much about the danger he himself is in. Although then it blurs the line between what's because of his character and what's because of the genre, which is a whole other issue...
100% agree with this comment. Defending yourself is not murder. Even according to the law. If you are cleared of killing someone because it was self defense - there is no murder trial. Luke really grated on my nerves by calling Drake a "mass murderer" in his Uncharted 4 review. I like the Uncharted stories, but not the gameplay - so I don't play the games. Instead I watch others play through - simple, everyone wins. That said, I certainly don't run around saying that the protagonist groups in games like this are "murdering" people. It's a game Luke.... I think for most of us, suspension of belief is a "given" when we pick up our controller or mouse/keyboard. There is no such thing as a "realistic" game - no matter how well real life is simulated - it is still a game with prescribed coding and outcomes, therefore not realistic.
Sometimes I think Luke says irritating or "edgy" things that he [perhaps] actually doesn't believe to get his comments section stirred up. The more activity for a UA-cam video (comments, likes & dislikes) - the higher it sits in the algorithm. Even though this is a fundraiser - it is also advertisement for his channel - which does have videos that he _does_ get compensated for.
To be clear I don't begrudge him his living - I get it - and I know from the quality of his videos that he works hard. But all UA-cam content creators that have been around and have established channels follow one of two playbooks to get their videos noticed: the one that has the contrarian hot take and the one that says what their audience wants to hear.
This 8.5 hour video must have been a lot of work. Thanks for doing this! It may take me several days/weeks to see it all, but I still appreciate it.
Luke has not done a video on Persona 5 Royal yet for some reason. I want to hear his thoughts on the characters like Joker and the narrative themes of rebellion and individualism

About the train section: it is divided into parts. If you play long enough you’ll see it loops around. It then shifts to the next post once you reach certain check points, like falling through the roof of a cart etc.
And this is the first video of yours I’ve seen where I wholeheartedly disagree with the majority of your positions. Still liked it though. Keep up the Good work
Thank you for disagreeing with him. When a popular youtuber posts a long ass video people absorb it as if it were some kind of documentary. It's just one dude spewing out his opinions for 8 hours, that's it.
yeah his opposition to the supernatural stuff is just weird but then he said uncharted 4 was his first game and it all made sense. The supernatural stuff at least for me is what made uncharted what it was and it made the mystery all the more interesting. The whole grounded story trying to be like the last of us for me is just a big NO for uncharted.
@@R3VELAT1ON THANK YOU YESSS , I was so sad knowing there wasn’t anything “magical” going on in 4 just dumb ass pirated fighting for money that they hid lmao
@@life09m I know, I would've been totally okay with like an undead Avery and his crew at the end. If Amy Hennig was still in charge of the franchise it would've probably happened. Especially with such a big place with alot of treasure i could imagine libertalia acquiring some type of cursed treasure.
Honestly, as much as I respect and overall like Luke, I have always vehemently disagreed with him on almost every analysis video. Especially the ac ones, and especially the black flag one (he claimed each city looked the same and was forgettable when they are literally the most unique in the franchise).
just gotta say, nate being irresponsible isn't a problem with the franchise, but a flaw in his personality. nate having bad traits is not a problem, it's character building
It depends. Is he like that consistently, or is it just for plot convenience?
@@thorthewolf8801 its consistently for plot reasons, so yes?
I think the reason why the gun system is the way it is is because of the point you bright up so many times - the game is meant to feel like a movie. The HUD is as minimal as possible, even crucial information like your health is communicated only through visual effects. Having upgradable guns might be more fun and rewarding for explorers but it would probably also take players out of the whole interactive movie vibes they want to achieve. I’m usually not the biggest fan of disposable weapons either but I actually think it works here and goes with uncharteds overall more lighthearted narrative. You’re not meant to feel pressured and tense and deal with resource management like in the last of us, they just want you to have fun with the shootouts and not worry about ammo consumption or how strong your weapons are.
Yeah, I like that headshots are actually headshots and not goodnight kisses on the forehead like in cod. 😂
Wow an 8 and a half hour review is pretty crazy. This is a very comprehensive video about one of my favorite series and I appreciate the hard work it must have taken.

I’ve seen a lot of content covering Pokemon as a franchise, but something about how you compile facts and data and present your opinions makes me think you’d make amazing videos on any Pokémon game.
You had some interesting and thoughtful points throughout this behemoth of a video. Nice work btw. That’s an insane amount of dedication and hustle.
That being said, it felt like a lot of this video was spent talking about most of the games not “making sense” lol. Also, at one point I was wondering if you really liked playing these games at all lol. I get it, you really hated Uncharted 3 lol.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being critical of a game or series of games, that’s what makes your content real and authentic. However, taking more time to discuss what you liked about the series might have made this more enjoyable. A little more balance is all. In conclusion, I can tell your really passionate about what you do and that’s what makes your content really shine. Peace.
He starts the video saying Uncharted is one of his favorite franchises in all of gaming, then complains about 80% of whats in the series
Nadine was a test for Abby. Getting you to play alongside a character that tried to kill your favorite character not long before... transitioning into playing as a character that literally does kill your favorite character.
Doubt they knew Abby was gonna be a character at the time they were making Uncharted 4.
@@darkhpokinsngaming8889yeah because its unheard of for studios the size of Naughty Dog with a Carte Blanche from a multibillion dollar conglomerate, unlimited development time to have two games in production simultaneously. Furthermore, Nadine WAS Druckmann’s first push for the stereotypical StRoNg FemAle DiVersE character. She literally beats Nate to within an inch of his life, everytime… all 16 pounds of her, our hero, Nate, who has fought all sorts of massive goons and supernatural beings loses to a 11 pound female in Louboutins.
Exactly
Well they still fucked up lmao 😂
The nasty sex scene didn’t help either
This is an effective technique in g tying the gamer to feel connected to the character emotionally. They did the same thing with Sarah(?) Joel's daughter at the start of The Last of Us.

Dude when I saw you posted an 8 HOUR VIDEO! This is gonna be a wild ride I already know. Also, I gotta say thanks for being so dedicated to this channel and taking the time to make a video this in depth and long. Keep doing what you’re doing, man!
Just finished Uncharted 4 about to start Lost Legacy after playing The Nathan Drake Collection and once I beat Lost Legacy I’ll have completed the Legacy of Thieves Collection. I’ve loved playing through this series from start to finish and now I’m able to appreciate a video such as this. Thank you Luke💐
Haven't been active much and I just noticed that you even made these videos, can’t wait to watch all 8 1/2 hours of it over the next couple days. I absolutely love the Uncharted series, I‘m only 20 and while I played some video games before, Uncharted was the first series of games I actually finished all by myself and it kind of shaped playing video games as a hobby/pastime for me
Hi Luke, discovered your content a few months back. Loving every detailed minute. Your critique of Valhalla was spot on to my thoughts. Love this one too.
You present a lot of convincing arguments for many of the games shortcomings. But when you constantly complain about the shooting galleries, it’s obvious that you are highly subjective and do not enjoy the majority of them, and that’s totally fine. But if you would compare these sections to the gameplay of Pokémon games, I’m not to sure you would say “ah wow, here is another Pokémon battle, how original”. These arcade shooting galleries are a core part of the Uncharted series, as Pokémon battles are to the Pokémon series, and whether you enjoy them or not, you shouldn’t be so surprised that they are reoccurring game after game. That’s really the only part that baffles me because you are usually very objective and thoughtful in your criticism.
And a lot of folks are tired of that old formula as well.
@@chrisj320ac3 Gotta add to this saying that when you complain about Nadine beating the crap outta Nate is because he's *rusty*. Nah bruh Nadine is just a better martial artist like what get over it.
@@harryjones5066 I mean, she obviously is trained in martial arts unlike Drake
But to be fair she's 10 years younger than him, and Drake has also been married for a couple of years now
the argument isn't that there shouldn't be shooting segments he's simply saying that they're stale and not particularly fun. Pokémon battles are dynamic and ever changing and even they get criticism for never changing the style. he's not saying an action game shouldn't have shooting he's saying that they should spice them up and make them enjoyable for players.
The pokemon example isn’t accurate. The pokemon battles are absolutely necessary to the games, but having gunfights in closed spaces isn’t really what defines Uncharted.
I have always seen this kind of videos in just one sit, and I love them, and now eight hours? Man I love them even more
I don’t think “it’s just a movie” or “it’s just a game” is a lazy get out of jail free card. I just actively don’t give a shit if things are absurd. That’s what I want in my entertainment. If I want something deeper I’ll watch Schindler’s List or Bridge Over the River Kwai. If I want fun I’ll watch National Treasure. Both are valid.
THIS IS SO CONVENIENT ❗ I've been binging your series on Uncharted since yesterday and now I can just use the chapters all in one video 📹 thank you. YOUR'E THE BEST ANALYZER LUKE❗💯

I just downloaded this last night. I’m so ready to play it when I get home tonight from work.
$10 was the easiest impulse price.
The main thing I learned from all this is Sully has very VERY good plot armor. He got shot and survived in UC1, basically dips out of the story after jumping into a river in UC2, gets shot by Cutter (faked though), survives escaping a burning mansion, gets captured (not on a pirate ship) and gets rescued, dies after an eclipse (fake again, it's an illusion), and gets dumped into yet another pool of water and rescued again. Naughty Dog just likes putting Sully in danger it seems lol
It was 1000% the spiders that caused the mysterious decomposed corpse. This is confirmed later on in the cutscene in the caves where Talbot's man gets overtaken by them. After the scene, you can walk over to the guy's body and see that he is also decomposed.
For the franchises suggestions: I think i really would love to suggest and see you going trough the Metro series. I love both games and books, and i think that there really haven't been much critiques about the Metro series. Love your stuff dude
The difference between Asav and Sam and Nate is, Sam and Nate are fit and experienced, but Asav is like Nadine. He's a soldier. He's trained. He's as skilled as her, but also stronger than her. That's how she could 2v1 Nate and Sam with her as the 1, but not Asav with her as one of the 2 when he got the drop on them.
i have written a 20 page essay on uncharted 4 in its own right. and i will gladly do it again- someday. uncharted 4 is to me, fantastic, it’s not perfect, but nothing ever is. but it’s pretty close. i appreciate whenever uncharted 4 is given the attention it deserves. needless to say, this is the 2nd time i rewatch this huge video, good work
one thing and theory that i have about sam’s “breakout” is that the reason the scenes are the same as the first breakout, is because, this fake breakout never happened. sam just needed some scenes and places in order to be able to describe it to nate. again, the only new scene is the gaurd tower. which would make sense since sam was actually, let out that way because of rafe. meaning that this is the only part of the retelling that is original and has nothing to do with nate, and everything to do with him. just a stupid head canon.
1:07:10 They don't actually know that the sap has healing properties. All they're aware of is that it's explosive (during gameplay at least) and that it turns those who eat it into large mutants possessing inhuman strength and speed. Nate even expresses shock when Lazarevic's disfigurements are healed after eating it, which he wouldn't do if he knew it was going to happen.
Can confirm that "minutes were too expensive/ hard to get my hands on" and "my phone was fucked" are ACTUAL reasons you can't get in touch with someone in Syria.

Hello, I'm from 2024 and Uncharted 4 is now 8 years old. We also hold our breath here in the future when a character is drowning!
The final boss battle of Uncharted 2 was way too tough. I usually played the games on normal/easy because I just wanted to play for the story and didn't really care for the challenging aspect. But I remember playing 2 on the easiest difficulty and still dying at least a dozen times to Lazarevic. There was no way I was going to play that final battle on a harder difficulty and I commend those who did.

This is elaborate, excellently detailed and exactly what we needed during WFH but. . just makes me wonder sometimes if critics ever really enjoy anything at all 😅
I've only watched a bit of the video so this might be subject to change, but when it comes to Luke and this specific franchise, I think he's just showing a lot of tough love. In my opinion he's being this elaborate because he loves these games, if that makes sense.
Luke.... you are a mad man for this and I am grateful.
Going to listen to this video tonight on my 4.5 hr drive home!
At the end of the video you say they put troy baker in everything they do because then he doesn't go off and do other things. I watched the uncharted 4 and lost legacy parts of this video, and good job on it man, but that's just ridiculous right? The idea that they just put him in everything so he doesn't leave them, that's just absurd. He's done a bunch of voice work in the 10s besides from Joel and Sam, that was just weird and doesn't make sense at all. They pay him because he's good at what he does and they like working with him. They obviously didn't plan on Nate having a brother in the original trilogy, but that doesn't mean that it's weird that Sam is in 4 or LL. These are silly action games and you cant take the story details too seriously, they are all riddled with plot holes and that's fine.
Also as side note i feel like you talk incredibly slow and go way too deep sometimes about tiny things that doesn't matter. These videos do not need to be this long. This one for example could be half as long if you just talked a little faster and cut out the fluff. Sorry to be a little negative, i do enjoy your videos!

Damnnnn 8 hours of Luke. Netflix needs to make this a mini series
I get what you’re saying in most instances. But man, its a video game. Not Shakespeare. People who critique art like this need to first make an attempt, at the very least, to understand what the creator(s) was trying to accomplish. Every story isn’t going to be ground breaking or incredible or game changing. Because not every story is aiming to do that. These games were made for fun. And for the most part they succeeded. When they wanted to tell a ground breaking story, they did that and succeeded also. And that goes for creators everywhere. Not just ND.
I’ve been waiting for this since TLOU2 critique!!!
I feel like you have articulated something i feel like i have always known but forgotten
Uncharted was the closest thing we got to the Video Game Equivalent of the Indiana Jones Franchise. They’re Silly, Fun and a Little Dumb at Times. BUT they are so good at being those three things that masterful at it.
I think the only bummer about the uncharted series is that there aren't more games made so epically like the uncharted games 🤷. It blends movies and gaming without all the cheese. 🥰

funny enough the flashbacks, the “normal life” scenes, and the flash forward in the end, are my favorite parts of the game. i just really love non linear and slow story telling in games, is maximum’s entertainment with minimal effort. i find myself getting worn out and taking breaks in the game so the slow action and cut sean’s are a way to get that break without leaving the world of the game.

@@unbearifiedbear1885 I never said you were talking about personal opinion...? Getting offended by having something you claim isn't even your belief questioned is the only thing that would need a "grip" to be acquired I'm afraid.
@@mydogeatspuke Well That isn’t necessarily true, circumstances differ a lot and the examples you can name who are masters of one probably all have in common the circumstances in which being a master of one would lead to better success. Put them in other situations or lives and the lack of versatility and adaptability wouldn’t attribute to as much and it would sure be better to be a jack of all trades than to not be in those circumstances.
The philosophy about it goes kind of like this: Would you excel in one area and thrive in that but be put in a situation where you fail miserably in another area or would you succeed moderately in both those areas? Pick your poison essentially.
Get my point? It’s a highly situational viewpoint but in its core it would probably be better to be a jack of all trades.
So you have to realize firstly that none is better than the other cause of this fact, but one can be better if certain circumstances favor one or the other.
And unless I misunderstand the term wrongfully being a jack of all trades is being above average at many things, not average at many things.
Besides that I think what you should strive for is being both. A jack of all trades and a master of one, this can be manageable because you have one speciality not more than one but one that is your best attribute, but you know many things about other subjects aswell so it makes you versatile while also excelling in one specific thing.

Whaaat, another video, Christmas came like a year early, day after day new videos each time I open youtube and an 8 hour long one at that.
I love your videos, they're very well made thought out and entertaining. My one critique is they're a bit too short. Haha :)
Even if you're wrong and don't fully understand some of the parts of the series, the effort put into this video is commendable and your willingness to post something like this about a beloved series is very admirable, overall well done
You're a great reviewer, you kept me entertained for the full 8 hours of this vid lol
Leaves out Golden Abyss and Eye of Indra
Lazarevic doing good with the power of the stone, that's a good one lol. Drake kills in self defense, not once has he ever taken the chance to kill an enemy in cold blood when they were unarmed or already defeated. He even told Sully in the Borneo mission of U2 that Lazarevic's 2 scouts were unarmed and thus they should handle them both without the use of guns. Naughty Dog also wanted an upbeat mood for the Uncharted series, they didn't want anything too dark or that took itself too seriously. The great light humor and great personalities from many of the uncharted characters is a big part of what made this franchise so special.
Makes me almost mad you don’t get millions of more views legitimately one of the highest quality and entertaining videos (not just the critiques all of it) I’ve ever seen dude keep it up
17:00 I mean that’s typically how it goes in history when it comes to “lost treasures” they are usually written about with more hype than the reality. That’s just part of the mythology of ancient history as it adds to the lore of a places culture
