When I was about 10, I came across the telephone kissing scene and to this day it's my favorite kissing scene in a movie. I had no clue what the movie was called or who the actors were. For years I kept hoping to come across this movie again. About 8 years later my brother's friend was talking about a movie and he was choking up talking about it that I was curious to watch it. It was It's a Wonderful Life. When I seen the kissing scene I cried. I had searched for this movie for so long. This was and still is my favorite silver screen movie.
This is such a cute and endearing movie in ways you'd never expect at first glance. It deals with such soul-crushing disappointment that so many people end up facing in their lives and don't realize, yet by the end you can't help but be overjoyed.
It's wonderful, really. I wish I could see everything in color from back then. I used to like black and white, but it disconnects you. The color gives you connection. Life back then was as real and colorful as it is now, even more so than the colorizing of this movie.
@@vinnievictory1186 The Beverly Hills High School Swim Gym was built in 1927. It was also used in Coneheads (just the pool) and in Whatever It Takes (with a Titanic-themed dance and someone opens the floor with everyone on it).

It's no big surprise that he would play a guy who tried to humiliate someone with pranks. In real life during his stint in The Our Gang series he did pull pranks on his co-stars.
I’ve watched this movie around 23 times in colour and black and white and NEVER realised Carl Switzer was in it. I grew up with the old tapes of the Our Gang shorts and it’s been one of my favourite shows for as long as I can remember.
The color connects you so much more. I like it. B&w maybe for the angel bit, but the rest in color really makes it more realistic. Life back then was just as colorful as now.
Did you know there’s a swimming pool under this floor? And did you know that button behind you causes this floor to open up? And did you further know, that George Bailey is dancing right over that crack? I got the 🔑
The funny thing is that this scene was probably a bit of nostalgia for the older audience at the time, adults with fond memories of the Roaring Twenties before the Depression and WWII. The timeline of this scene and when It's A Wonderful Life came out would be the equivalent of a 2017 movie couple dancing in 1999.
I ❤️this movie!!!! Watch it faithfully every year. I love Mary's ❤️for George& Georges drive to pursue his dream even tho he was MEANT to stay in Bedford falls😩
This movie is soooooooooo old and yet has more of a modern take on the filming style, the framing of the shots, than most other movies of its time. This is especially apparent in the technicolor version. The black and white version is my preference though :)
I agree though this isn't technicolor, it's colorized later, how I don't know. I like the black and white version more too because it's the original and the picture feels more natural and skarp, but it fits in color too. I could never watch Gone with the wind or Meet me st Louis as example in black and white though as they where originally reliesed in color and absolutely beautiful.
I think those two movies are filmed in technicolor as it was the most bright, beautiful way to film color movies. I don't really get how it works but I have realised there where different processes to create color film or film in color, technicolor definitely the best most beautiful film but even not as good color movies imo usually looks better than later color black and white movies, this one is really well done though and it looks pretty much original, I'm sure it is much easier now to color black and white film and make it look good, bright and natural.
One of my favorite scenes too! This is how I imagine the best of the Roaring Twenties: let's keep having fun no matter what happens! The Charleston dance is crazy even by today's standards. I have no rithym and can't dance, but it's great fun to watch them.
Donna Reed was so pretty! Dresses were so elegant back then unlike todays fashion. Two pieces are ok but too many women barely conceal their cleveage and have ugly fashion for nice events. Sad.

The idea for a subterranean pool in a gymnasium is such an cool and interesting idea...and apparently they were able to have those back in 1940's! I doubt either of the two high schools I went to in the 2000's had any of those installed. Makes me a little jealous. Ironic since jealousy is what made that kid open the floor in the first place!

I grew up on black and white, and films made in this time should be left in black and white, but this coloured version is not over stated. most are terrible, this is the best of the lot. I would tell you this, that I was six years old when this film was made, and have seen more than my share of black and white films, and you spell colorisation, with an S.
What really amazed me about the color version was how so many things faces and objects popped out of the background that I never saw before. Seems the black & white version blurred and ate up all the scenery.
ndogg20 exactly, but my main objection to many colorised versions, is that they are far too heavily coloured, this version, I think being the exception.

Some people have said that this scene was faked. I am not old enough to have attended the shooting of the scene, but I know it wasn't faked--I have personally seen the floor in the Beverly Hills High School gym opening up into a swimming pool, as it did here, albeit 20 years later. And I prefer this "spoiled prom" scene to the one in the movie _Zapped!,_ in which the event was ruined and the kids' clothes were pulled off.
I remember watching this movie every year at Christmas, before it was taken off the air. Today, to my shock, I mentioned "Zuzu's petals" to a young gal of 25. She gave me a strange look, shook her head and told me she didn't know what I was making reference to. I said, "It's in 'It's a Wonderful Life' - Zuzu's petals. Remember?" She'd never seen the movie. I actually think these kinds of dances are so inherently wild/crazy/silly, people who would normally feel way too self-conscious to dance (like me) and could join in with everyone else and just have a ball. Unlike today.

Color really makes films seems much more recent than they are. I mean, this is 74 years old, and most people in it are either dead or very old
