- Sweet Child o' Mine, if it were written by Dire Straits.
Here's another classic that I thought I could adapt to a Dire Straits version.
I saw on instagram the other day someone that had already put the original solo in something of a Dire Straits style, so I thought I'd switch it up a little and try a different approach with a sort of Telegraph Road style build-up to a big ending.
Had a lot of fun coming up with the different parts, hope you enjoy!

Now I want whole album with Dire Straits-like songs ;)
Appetite for Dire Straits

Private Destruction. x
Great idea … watch out for copyright(c) 😅
Dire Roses
I think this is the best Dire Straits reinterpretation you've done. I think both Knopfler and Slash would approve.
Now do Telegraph Road if it were by Guns n Roses!
I 100% endorse this approach
NO!!!!!!!
@@papajohnloki "tho I'd sooner forget, I remember those ny-eee-ights!"
I'm afraid it's impossible
@@granthambeard I advocate this sentiment.
This guy deserves more recognition, not to mention his musical skills.
Rick Beato should interview him asap!
He's gotta do some algorithm tuning 🙂
Seems like this video went somewhat viral.
Yeah but the mix is gritty as...
Clearly not the intentional overdrive... more like clipped final in places 🥴
As both a dire straits and Guns N’ Roses fan THIS IS INSANELY AWESOME
As a big Dire Straits fan and a someone who regards GnR as so-so, this is outstanding. I could swear I was watching Knopfler himself. Fantastic video!
I like GnR a lot, but, I heard this song one too many times back in '88. Dire Straits, on the other hand, I can't get enough of. This was perfect.
Totally agree
As someone who absolutely loves both, this is killer
I'm a bigger GnR fan than Dire Straight (like their hits mostly) and I agree, this was superb. I was hoping he was gonna just keep on playing.
I've never heard GNR referred to as so so, how was year meth......so so.....lol
better than any song on the radio in the last 15 years
That solo was heavenly.
Thanks!
I love the telegraph road approach. makes so much sense with how the song is originally written and only adds to the amazing feel of the song.
Brilliant, just brilliant. The space, double time feel, the buildup... he did an amazing job bringing that to context and it worked brilliantly. Bravo @laszlo 👏👏👏👌👍❤️
Well Axel Rose originally wrote this as a poem as a teenager, about a girl he was dating and after hearing his lead guitarist practice some rifts he decided to put the poem to the rifts . So it was not originally a song, but a poem. Thats what I heard . from Proffessor of Rock. There is a video on it. on utube.
Dire Straits does have that sort of dreamy quality- doesn't it? Very cool interpretation.
First part sounded great, and wow, that solo was so Knopfleresque! I could feel some major Telegraph Road vibes.
As a massive fan of Dire Straits and GNR, I loved this. You really captured the essence of Dire Straits as if they played this song. The lead break was more telegraph road with a few pinches of sweet child of mine thrown in to my ears and sounded brilliant. I would love to see Mark Knofler and Slash's reactions to this.
That solo was absolutely beautiful. The slow build up and then into the flow and feel of Mark Knopfler. So cool, well done!
I'm not even a Guns n Roses fan, but THIS is damn amazing.
Being a product of the grunge age, I thought it was uncool to like GNR and Van Halen. But then I grew up and realized a good song is good song, period.
Your covers are always so incredible, but there was something... different about this solo, just absolutely channeling the spirit of Mark Knopfler.
Thank you very much!
That’s perfect!
Have been die hard GNR and Dire Straits fan forever. Never thought this would work so well.
These are just simply fantastic versions of classic songs. Great guitar playing. Lovely touch, feel, and tone. ❤
Thank you!
This is the only cover of Sweet Child O' Mine that I've ever heard that I like. I was really hoping that it would've kept going and the second half went full sultan's of swing.
I agree, it also had a telegraph road feel with the sultan's it is quite brilliant.
With every video, not only do you keep getting the guitar sound and songwriting spot-on, but you keep improving with all the little idiosyncrasies in Mark's voice. It may not be long before you morph into Mark Knopfler himself, lol. As always, great video. It's like Christmas every time you upload.
Thanks a lot 😁
I'm starting to believe that this is really Mark Knopfler.
@@TonyWesley I personally think he's kidnapped Knopfler and has been forcing him to teach all of his secrets. But don't let him know I know lol
Agree. So bloody good. Exactly a la Knopfler.
This is the most beautiful thing I have heard in a long while
Now this was absolutely beautiful. coming from a huge dire straits fan. the guitar playing is incredible
That solo... 😧😧
I didn't want it to end!
To be honest, neither did I!
Always have been a Dire Straits fan, and you make me realize what a distinct style Mark Knopfler adds to music.
This is a beautiful hommage to both MK and to your musical feel.
Your solos at the second half.. I really like how you let G&R “craziness” shine thru, but still held it back and let the “Dire Straits notes” still be there. I would have been so tempted to just let go. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
I actually like this better than the original!
This whole clip was great but the solo was simply brilliant! 😃
Unbelievable! Truly. I have seen both GnR n Mark twice each in concert, and i could say you nailed this version to the T! Please keep doing this.
You knocked this out of the park. Virtuoso performance!
Hey, UA-cam algorithm: get this video out there!
A nice, fresh breath of new life into a song that has become terribly stale IMO.
Brilliant interpretation and tastefully executed. Keep 'em coming!
I was briefly disappointed when the first half faded to black, and then massively rewarded with the second half. You nailed Mark's percussive phrasing.
Thanks! Glad you stuck around for the second half 😁
Absolutely wonderful! I didn't think that song or especially Slash's solo could be matched.....you did it! I like this version better and the original, and that is saying a lot. Beautiful work. Mark should be flattered. ✌️
Mark Knopfler is the Greatest proof of "good Music don't need to be complicated or abusing high notes on singing"
Love the Telegraph Road vibe during the last half, with the solo and the bass/drum setting up gently, another masterpiece, congrats Laszlo!
Oh my god - that was sublime. This is truly one of the greatest things I've seen in a very long time here on YT. Outstanding.
A song like that could go in so many directions. You nailed it to the core. Great tone from the Strat.
Outstanding. You play one of the greatest rock songs of GnR with Slash, who is an exeptional guitar player, then add a style of a band, which has also some of the greatest guitar players of all times, and make your own version. The way you combine these songs and styles in your way, which I believe is also including your own style and interpretation makes this song a masterpiece. This goes into my music list and I hope it will be always available.
I hope so too, thank you!
One of the most talented performance ever heard. The solo reminds to Telegraph road, tunnel of love and somewhere sultans of swings... no words to say
My god man, when the last solo kicks… good as knopfler himself
THIS IS AWESOME. Love the “Telegraph Road”-like introduction to the guitar solo
Bloody hell!!! I'm a fan of Dire Straits and GNR. This is insane. We definitely need an encore.🤘
I'm here after watching the "Hotel California if written by Stevie Ray Vaughan" masterpiece. Another unbelievable job this time.
Slash owes a debt to Alvin Lee of Ten Years After for copping parts of the solo in I'd Love to Change the World." This, too got some of that feel.
Love it! Sweet Child O Mine meets Telegraph Road at the end, there.
Absolutely outstanding… it sounds like DS could have actually written that. The outro Solo was epic!
Don't know how you did it, but you nailed it! That outro was also very reminiscent of "Layla"'s coda.
Absolutely beautiful. Love that strat sound
Great job.I love Dire Straits and GnR.Never thought about such a musical marriage.Ypu are talented!
Honestly I wrote the comment too soon.Omg that Knoppler tone and feeling. The like runs are so on his pure beauty
This is brilliant! Gotta give props to the vocals too. I was wondering how you would interpret them. Well done 👏
Thanks! They felt quite natural to do, one octave lower than the original.
I would listen to an album of these all the time ❤
The way you made it sound like telegraph road is just incredible!
That solo was perhaps the most mesmerizing video I've ever seen. Thanks! Masterful!
Very good adaption. Totally sounds like something Dire Straits would record.
Alright - now ur just showin’ off !!! Excellent !! Still waiting for my Michael Shenker “played as if” vid though - guess I better not hold my breath. lol thanks Laszlo
Beautiful. This is the definitive version now.
Im 60 years old and loving this. Your turning tunes i never really liked and making them great...thank you,!
Spot on! Love the Telegraph Road like arrangement.
I could feel the Dire Straits soul transferred into this song. Very moving.
This is absolutely incredible! As a fan of both bands you absolutely nailed everything about the essence of dire straits and the actual essence of the song sweet child of mine. Bravo 👏
Sweet Telegraph of Mine.
I checked how long to go at 50% and saw we were in for a treat of an outro. You did not disappoint.
It`s kinda sad that you dont get more views on your videos, you are very talented and are so close to original sounds and styles. Keep up the great Work.🦾🦾
It's all in the hands of the algorithm gods 🙌🏼
@@LaszloBuring The algorithm must be fed. Here's a nugget of algorithm chow to help it grow.
Tasty
@@BirchBarlow I think it worked!Thanks!
And thank you Laszlo! Amazing!😊👏
These kind of comments always irk me.
Absolutely incredile Laszlo Knophler! I was listening to the intro and verses/chorus and was blown away. Then there was the pause, everything went dark and I thought the song was over. I my mind I was thinking, I wish Laszlo had have played the guitar solo...... then that slow build up with the dIRE sTRAITS piano (absolute gold)..... after that when the guitar started playing my mouth fell open and my jaw hit the ground!!! Epic! So Knophler, those bends and nuances! 🤯🤯🤯🤤🤤🤤I think that's my favourite of any of your DS arrangements that you have made. I hope Mark Knophler gets to hear this one day... Slash too! I'm sure they would smile and love your epic tribute to them and to this iconic rock song! 🎸
Thanks for the kind words! Very much appreciated 😁
Just beautiful 😍 absolutely fantastic 👏 💯 great stuff ❤️ 😍
I’ve probably commented on this before but that solo was phenomenal sir !!!
I have to admit, that was freaking awesome! And the solo was epic.
Great job.
At this point mate youre morphing into mark. Absolutely excellent channel man youre very talented. Closest thing we have to getting new dire straits music is this channel.
My first time watching one of your videos. What a talent you are! I definitely hear Mark Knopfler here. He's my all time favourite guitarist. I'll be subscribing.
Thank you very much!
This is astonishing! A much polished and refined version (plus without the annoying sound of Axel’s voice)… Thank you!
The way you rearranged that piece in the Dire Straits style is simply perfect! Incredible. Great work.
It’s amazing how well this works. You just have to imagine you never heard the GnR version before this one, and you have something really special! But none is true without your own soul, creativity, and fabulous execution. Well played Lazlo! I love it❤️
Thank you very much!
This could be a hit today
Oh my God!!!! 🤯
You are so talented! This is out of this world!
I just wish that Mark Knopfler watches this video.
This music, in this version, should exist in an album.
Congratulations!!!
Finger picking well done! The last solo drive me to final part of Telegraph road....Amazing moment....BRAVO!
I have to say I enjoyed that more than the original. Fantastic job.
Absolutamente maravilloso. Enhorabuena. Necesitamos mucho más de esto.
That solo was outstanding
Spectacular. Thanks so much for this.
That fade out was Mint.. Mint I tell you.. How in the world do you only have 30K subs ? Nicely done dude..
Thank you! 😁
That might be the most relaxing thing I’ve ever heard lol. I’m not up on music theory like I should be so my terminology is prolly wrong, but borrowing some notes from the major scale was genius.
You've captured the essence of Dire Straits, and their songwriting style so well. 👍
Now that … that was absolutely outstanding. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Telegraph Road of Mine
This is so much better than the original that they are not even in the same world.
Superb. Every Knopfler move in that last solo! Keep them coming!
I'm a huge (old) fan of DS and I find your video absolutely brilliant.
Thank you!
Hi Laszo, another masterpiece from you. You nailed this song with 100%. Your feeling for Marc Knopfler's kind of playing is amazimg and the outrosolo like Telegraph Road perfect. Thumps up.
Keep on rocking and stay tuned. Greets Alex 😀😀
Thanks a lot Alex!
I came for the parody and left astonished. That's legit. Thank you
Such a brilliant song … to be able to do different things with it!! And you do just that … will probably be back to listen too again !! So good !! Congrats !!!
It's insane! Almost thought i was listening to Telegraph road at the end.. respect
Bossa nova start is also insane..
Honestly i like it a whole lot more than the original!
1000X better
it seems that i hear sweet child of mine with the sound and the style of telegraph road. That is a really good mash up. The kinf of cover that i love to listen.
Thanks a lot!
Spot on performance. You really did justice to both the song and to the Dire Straits style.
What a great night! I love discovering new to me stuff that blows me away! Subscribed the first 10 sec of video!
Jesus Christ! I was NOT expecting that voice!!! Was expecting a nice chill guitar style swap essentially. Your Knopfler voice is incredible my man, new sub.
Thank you very much!
👍
I am really enjoying this mellowed down version now that i am in my mid fifties😊
this is the best version I have ever seen. best than any other. Great Job!
Stayed for the solo. Was not disappointed! Well done.
I'm glad you did! It's the best part, hahah!
Amazing Job , as a musician I know the difficult to develop a vídeo with so many details. You captured the soul of Mark knopfler guitar in this solo. Congratulations .
This is so perfect!! Congratulations Laszlo Buring.
This is so very cool……
More please !
I would like to watch that sweet child of mine on stage!👌💖really love the second part!
