- Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa addressing the Defence & Martyrs Day ceremony on Wednesday, said that '1971 not a defeat of the Pakistani army, but a political defeat. He also said that armies around the world are seldom criticised but the army in Pakistan is often subjected to criticism. He added,'I think the reason for that is the army's involvement in politics.' 'That is why in February this year, the army decided not to interfere in politics.'

Pak Army got a stalemate in 65 but it knew if the stalemate had not happened it was just hours away from another surrender .... Niazi just a day earlier was boasting about fighting to the death till the last man. But then they got the brutal ultimatum from India's Jewish General JFR Jacob who told them that the Mukti Bahini was waiting to skin them all alive. The surrender took place that same afternoon.

It's a long debate. In 1971 war Pakistan army fougt bravery. Indian didn't have any success on battle field. Accept by Field marshal manik Shah. But the reason was that when there is Distance of 1000 miles between east and west Pakistan and in-between India lives which was constantly creating rifts among them . That bound to happen.

Pak army were not present in important point of east pakistan. They were not on important roads and river areas. Indian army easily and rapidly advanced and reached near Dhaka. More than 24000 army were present in Dhaka. War may be continued more than onr month. Out of Dhaka army were not ready to surrender. How protect pakistan in war 1965? USA Britain and China supported Pakistan why separated east pakistan so easily?

Having a peace treaty over Kashmir and agreeing the international border is not a surrender. It is a very smart act that to this day seems to have been beyond the Pakistan Army. Gen Bajwa is 100% about the strength of Pak Army... there were just 2 divisions comprising 15K officers and men each. He did not mention 200K Mukti Bahni aided by Indian Commandoes who infiltrated many month prior to start of the war and choked supply routes. 90K prisoners included children, lady-wives, businessmen, workers of POF Mirpur, some police and Ranger hailing from then West Pakistan

The Pakistani Army cannot wash it's hands off the '71 debacle. Yes, I agree with the General that the root of the problem was political, however the Pak Army accelerated their fall firstly by committing massive atrocities on the public and subsequently due to a poor defensive deployment and plan. Had Niazi applied his mind and fought a sensible retrograde battle, he could have been effective longer and possibly forced a cease-fire with American help. So it is time for Gen QJB to quietly fade away.
