- In Genshin Impact, the Cataclysm is mentioned several times throughout the story. An occurance that happened 500 years ago, which changed the world.
But what was the actual cause of the Cataclysm?
What happened during the Cataclysm that caused everything to change in the current events of the game?
I believe that the answers to our questions were already given to us by Mihoyo, at the very beginning of the game.

I have a feeling the Tsaritsa will end up as one of the traveler's main allies, possibly on a quest to dethrone the ruler of Celestia/Tevyat, maybe the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles, and the Tsaritsa might talk to the traveler about what the Gods took from her, possibly her loved one, one of the Archons (the Dendro archon is most likely to be the one).

Personally I think Tsaritsa is misunderstood.

@@hesijie9816 I don't think she will kill us. Venti says that he was friends with her 500 years ago (celestia destroyed khaenri'ah) and then she cut her ties with people. I think she realized that Celestia can kill everyone for their own sake so she tries to do away with archon system and archons being ascended to celestia thing. If she had ill intentions, she would kill gnosis havers, too but she only took their gnosis not their lifes. She doesn't have a problem with people on Teyvat, she has a problem with Celestia.

This is kinda irrelevant but I noticed something while reading Genshin lore, a lot of things happened 500 years ago
- the travellers were blocked off from leaving Teyvat and were sealed in
- The cataclysm
- Dainsleif asked for 500 mora during his quest
- the youngest archon (dendro) was born or throned? 500 years ago
- The fall of Khaenri’ah
- The Cryo archon and Venti’s friendship ended 500 years ago
These could have NO relation to each other but I just find it interesting that a lot ties in with the number 500
I dont know if this makes sense but i saw that the reason why dainsleif asked for 500 mora was like a hint to the traveler that lumine and aether were seperated apart from 500 years.

I feel like tsaritsa was friends with the old dendro archon, or even more, until the dendro archon tried something against the divine, dying in the process; Tsaritsa trying to avenge him or her, gathers all gnosis to conquer divinity
I wonder what happens if you don't have 500 mora when you do that quest. Does game still act as if you have 500 mora? Or it doesn't and it gives some sort of easter egg.

@Suki it’s a bit more complicated than simply good and evil. In their universe. All worlds exist on something known as an Imaginary Tree. The Honkai basically exist to prune the tree so that the strongest worlds survive.

Mihoyo's games are all set in the same multiverse, and the lore includes our world with it. The mythos behind the Tower of Babel falls in line with the concept of a honkai or cataclysm.
Talking abt life and death. Venti has showed in his story quest that he could guide dead spirit to the other world, which im pretty sure it's not an elemental power. More like a power came from Gnosis like Morax's ability to create Mora. But we all know that Venti's Gnosis was taken by Signora. So... What could this possibly mean?
When i was digging the dialogue, i found something. When Venti received the purified tear of Dvalin, he said: " this remind me of an old friend"
I wonder which friend he was talking abt. There are 2 speculations abt this sentence.
1. He was simply talking abt another friend or dragon friend (why does Venti involved with so many dragons lol)
2. He's talking abt the purify ability, which only traveler seems to have according to Albedo. Unless there is another being that can purify a poision that was even lethal to god. The best guess that this "friend" was the other twin
That's an interesting point actually.
If I remember correctly, Barbatos' ability to 'guide dead spirit' during the quest was under the context that Stanley's friend's spirit was trapped in a place where winds did not blow and the spirit could not 'return' home to the domain of the wind (Mondstadt).
Now as for your point about Venti's Gnosis ability, I think it's possible but at the same time, perhaps not.
Barbatos was a Wind Sprite, or one with the wind, before receiving his Gnosis at the conclusion of the Archon War.
So maybe he had that ability, even before he became an Archon.
As for Morax, his ability to make Mora using his Gnosis,
it could possibly be a skill he did not have before becoming an Archon.
(Because he used to be an Adepti [Prime Adepti] before becoming an actual Archon)

Fun fact: The symbol on Paimon's clothing can also be defined as the trinity knot, meaning "eternal love" in some Irish and celtic legends. (An unending knot that cannot be untied). However, the symbol on Paimon is upside down, so that could mean that Paimon's love is not eternal, and she might turn against us or loose our trust.

@@wuttatota148 i might be late for this but just to add about the text under venti’s statue, according from the royal grimoire weapon: the text from that statue is not complete because when the nobles were ruling mond, they tore down venti’s statue and when the people ousted the nobles, they only rebuilt it but the full texts were not preserved. so no one knows if the texts were passed down or it’s really gone.
now, from the leaks, eula, an upcoming character is a descendant of the ancient nobles and her leaked description also says “her joining the knights of favonius remains a great mystery”. i dont know but i like to think that her character may also open up the possibility that she may lead us some information about the text under venti’s statue.

Venti is a witness to the divine, so he must have some stuffs in his story that is important, even when he probably did not realize himself. In history of gunhildr clan, it is barbatos, a.k.a venti that blessed the gunhildr clan's daughter a vision (it said "power" but I assume it a vision)
so venti DO HAVE strong connection to celestia, he gave human the first anemo vision IN A FORM OF A WISP & no one, no one ever talked about god of time, when it seems venti & mondstadt people should've known them. Venti dislike celestia, but it seems he can't do anything about it as he is part of the cycle, he probably hates to admit that as a god of freedom he's tied to the grand scheme of thing too close, his hesitation to rebel probably make tsaritsa dislike him, or because of his connection to celestia, tsaritsa choose not to ask him to cooperate

It actually makes mor esense once we consider that the statue of the seven upside down in the 1.4 trailer is the Mondstdt statue. If Barbatos is needed in the lore, maybe they are trying to get rid of Venti because he isn't co-operating? It all makes more and more sense once you think about it.
Well yeah venti isnt one of those who wants to cooperate he wants the things to go naturally without any intervention thats the reason why tsaritsa orderd to take his gnosis forcefully while zhongli cooperated so he gave his gnosis willingly

The symbol appears in Honkai Impact as well. It appears as the “Hersscher of Domination” aka Archon of Domination.
Power “beyond.” Yes, in Honkai there are gods of gods, gods that gave the world’s gods their powers. Just like how there’s gods for archons, probably.
i feel like, that lumine and aether were left out in celestia when he said "Humans reached the land in the sky"
so it means the unknown goddess wanted to rid celestia of human life
EDIT: There's actually been a leak concerning the Abyss Order and Khaenri'ah that confirms... a certain theory... And another one actually confirmed Dainsleif affiliation. This quest is going to be interesting.
I always had a feeling that Venti and Mondstadt had more importance to the main story than any other region. At first, it was due to conventional story telling, but later due to the Abyss Order, Fatui, and Khaenri'ah all converging on this one nation and interest in Barbatos, even if the main focus was of the Abyss Order. The lack of interferance from the Abyss Order in Liyue actually enforced this idea before it was mentioned by Paimon in Chapter 1, Act IV Prelude, and the fact that the Sibling sticks around Mondstadt.
Personally, I think the Tsaritsa is actually a "good guy" in the sense that she is trying to save her people, and possibly the world, from the fate that Celestia has deemed for them. However, she is doing this through "by any means necessary" which results in her and the Harbingers doing questionable things in order to fulfill her wish. It also seems like the other factions have a similar goal, and a similar method of getting there: by any means necessary. The Traveler is likely to develop a similar goal, but a different method of going about it.
And the only other thing I will add, I think it was a decision that the Tsaritsa made 500 years ago is the reason that she cut ties with Barbatos and not something he did. Venti has so many death flags it isn't funny. I would not be surprised if his death will be a catalyst in starting the war.
man, i can't imagine someone dying when the game is kinda cartoon style and its rated t but after hearing the tails of honkai impact and other games of mihoyo, genshin impact will soon get to the darker side. but i digress.
I strongly believe that by the time we are in snezhnaya , traveler would have joined forces with the fatui. Imagine him becoming a harbinger with a delusion.
about venti's death, i don't think he is the one going to die. not by the fatui or the tasritsa at least. But if he's gonna die, then its gonna be any other archon. But not tasritsa since she knows whats coming and she must understands the importance of other archons in this and only just their gnosis. I like the idea of starting a war by killing someone major in the story, but not venti. man cant wait to finish the story already. but the sad part of it is that we will have to wait at least 2 years to get the game complete.
If this were case, it WOULD be super make sense for why Mondstant is always in war with Khaenriah, they (khaenriah) already knew that the City of Freedom were connected to the Cycle of Life, Death and Rebirth because of Barbatos, or rather Khaenriah attacks Mondstant because they were follower of Barbatos, which have a great role in Cycle of Life, Death and Rebirth
If Tsaritsa is Good Guy, but Fatui are enemy of Players.
@@arocomisgamusclademork1603 if this is a question, then hear me out. Tsaritsa knows thats about to come and is preparing for it by gathering the gnosis of other archons, by any means. And fatui is her medium of getting it done. The fatui might not reveal their plans yet, but I believe they are the goodies in the long run . We will eventually come in terms with the fatui as we go further in the story

I feel that the story quest for Snezhnaya will revolve around rekindling the Cryo Archon's love for her people.
She was said to have changed after the events of the cataclysm 500 years ago, and I found it odd that after the event, she was said to have no love left for her people. How can a world ending event cause that? The only possible causes that i can think of which can results in her change is either something akin to brainwashing or betrayal.
I find it unlikely to be brainwashing since if that was the case, her actions are rather odd? Why would she sever ties with just Barbatos and maintain connections with the other Archons.
Perhaps, the events of Cataclysms allowed her to have a glimpse of the true nature of her people, maybe just like in the introduction scene, where the unknown god claimed that mankind are becoming more and more arrogant. The Cryo Archon of that time may be a gentle one like what Childe claims her to be, and maybe she was incredibly passive and only cared about protecting her people and wanting peace, never doing any more than that. However, the Fatui Harbringers of that time became powerhungry and wanted more, leading to them wanting to overthrow her and to claim all of teyvat. Perhaps Celestia was the one who exposed her followers deeds to her, explaing her hatred for them.(The other archons do not seem to share this deep hatred with her )This betrayal could have broke her heart and she chose not to trust anyone again, leading to her lack of love towards her people, and her hatred towards Celestia for exposing them.
In the storyline preview, it is also said that "her followers only hope to be on her side when the day of her rebellion against the divine comes at last". I find it odd as well that the Harbringers are willing to follow someone who barely cares about them. Sure, she may have granted her delusions, but their loyalty seems to be rather too much. What if, they were simply doing so out of remorse and also to seek her forgiveness for what their predecessors did to her.
Just my 2 cents out there as i likely missed out something important in the lore making my theory invalid and excuse my English haha
True, that's the thing that was odd. She has no love for her people and yet so far, the sneznayans we meet are very loyal to her. Heck, even that merchants mentions staying loyal to the Tsaritsa.

Had the same thoughts as well. This is actually one of my many reasons why I love Venti and want to pull for him as a new player. His last lines to us were too... serious. I'd really like to see his voice lines myself. Even more so when the Traveler's lines specifically point out the difference of Venti the Bard to archon state. Looking forward to 1.4 even more so!

According to your Lore, a bell rang(made a Theory) in my mind when you said "Why did MiHoYo use two dandelions from different locations? In my personal opinion, this symbolizes the seperation between Aether and Lumine but by using dandelion" What if? Just What if the two of them ofcourse, seperated but! But it was intentional. Intentional because unchosen character is Princess/Prince of the Abbys Order and will fight destiny until the end (In the trailer where the Unchoosen chara. remembered it's sister/brother). I remember that scene (spoiler?) where the Chosen chara. first met the Unchosen chara. after the seperation. The Unchoosen chara. said "I have already traveled through this world once. Once you reach the end of your journey as I did, you will see for yourself the true nature of this world." So that means the Unchosen chara. wanted the Chosen chara. to show the truth before it's journey ends and save that world. But unfortunately, again, what if the Chosen chara. reaches the end without knowing the truth? What about Dainsleif? There's a Theory that Dainsleif is actually Aether but from the future and I believe that! I don't know which side is Dainsleif actually because I haven't played Genshin Impact yet. Triquettra has many more meanings depending on where you read.
Can represent the holy trinity, the father, the son and the spirit.
or the Mother, Maiden and Crone, three Pagan goddesses which is the three cycles of life (like you state) but more specifically it's tied to the phases of the moon. I personally think the Triquettra represents the three Moon Goddesses. (I'm sure you've came across all this stuff though) The other thing with the Trinity knot is how it can sometimes be encompossed by a circle, often meaning some kind of union. There are examples of this symbol throughout the game with variations:
- Triangle behind it (On Mora coins)
- It being displayed upside down (Upside symbols can often mean the opposite, like the tree of life symbol meaning beginning and then upside down meaning death, but this isn't always the case with symbols... maybe it's just that way so when Paimon looks down she can read it :'D)

There are many more but it's obviously a symbol tied to Celestia as many things it is displayed on are directly related to it.
Arrogation is often related to something being siezed by government often without justification. So how is mankind siezing anything without justification? You could say the sustainer is actually saying "The theft FROM mankind ends here" not "The theft OF mankind ends here" which really brings her allegiance and motivations into question no? Would be worth looking into what it's translated from to get a better idea.

Actually, about the symbol itself being upside down, I actually thought about this yesterday after the video was uploaded.
Initially I brushed it off because I felt I didn't have much ground to stand on, but after watching few trailers and breaking down those, I think this merits an obvious intention by Mihoyo.
As far as exactly what, I'm still unsure. But I am now under the impression that this was also done on purpose.
I can't wait until we get some more information and details explained to us soon... We will have to wait XD

One thought I had was that maybe tbe reason we were released so late was specifically because the other Traveler became the leader of the abyss. Perhaps our sibling was kidnapped and enslaved to aid in the Archon wars, and then chose to rebel and destroy Celestia as a result, and the Unknown God realized their mistake and let us out of our seal, so that we'd stop our sibling. The entire story of Genshin has largely been well intentioned people in desperate situations willing to do evil acts and take terrible risks for the sake of a "better world", but also everybody being deeply flawed in judgement. So the Unknown God attempting to use brute force to "fix" the world and accidentally creating her worst enemy, and having to go on a limb to free the sibling as a last resort makes a lot of sense.

Finding out the truth of Celestia and the reason why people exist makes me think of anime like Fullmetal Alchemist and Attack on Titan. Both stories are about finding out true meaning of the existence of life and the powerful forces behind it. In FM, it's the internal corruption leading a plot to overthrow The Truth (god) being done by the an immortal hidden ruler. In AoT, it's finding the real reason why Titans exist and the space-time magic of Paths.
Both stories are among the very best of anime, so having Genshin give off this vibe excites me so much. I want more lore.
This is why I main Kaeya, to keep close eye on him all time... Hahaha, jk. I love any character with deep connections to the world lore. Except Xiao, I pull him for his passive talent tho... Kekw. Plus he so cuteeee..

Not only that in the latest update zhongli story, zhongli made a contract before the destruction of khaen riah making him unable to tell the truth as well, could it be the gods were ordered by the unknown god and that’s why lumine doesn’t like any of the gods? Because their involve and khaen riah is also a nation with elements who has no gods

I think that there may be a very interesting parallel to draw between the cyclical life model in this theory and the idea that archons are replaced as I remember I saw a theory talking about how the tsaritsa’s plan could be to make sure that there aren’t anymore archons so that celestia can’t carry out other forms of destruction like it did with khaenri’ah idk tho

Hmm. Curiouser and curiouser. Now that I think about it, all of our story quest with regards to nations we’ve been to, save for Mondtstat, were all about/relating to freeing the nation and it becoming more independent from its archons. With Liyue it was more clear, with Zhongli wanting to see too if Liyue can strive and protect itself without his help, then letting the age of humanity set forth. With Inazuma, it was letting Ei (especially more seen in the recently released story character quest of Ei) realize that humanity can prosper on its own and that she should allow them to take control and progress. We’ll see with other nations.
Genshin Impact lore is kinda similar to Honkai Impact
I was planning on playing through the entirety of Honkai in the near future for a better deep dive into the who universe.

Why is Paimon, the one with the symbol, WAS fished out by Aether?
And there are no other species like Paimon, as of now, other than the green spirits that look IDENTICAL to Paimon, could they be the previous Paimon in the cycle of life? With, the travellers remains?
1. The green spirits used to guide humanity
2. They float like paimon, and is small.
3. Treasures, I believe Mihiyo didn't put that there just for the sake of LEVELLING up. Could they be the corpses of the Previous time looped traveller?

Dandelion, propagates using the wind. Jean, the Dandelion Knight, keeps order in Mondsadt, letting the wind of freedom flow in Mondsadt, thereby making Aether, continue his journey, to let the 'Wind' 'guide' him.
If Barbatos didn't let the wind flow, Aether wouldn't make his journey to find Lumine, which leads to these possible outcomes:
1. WHICH SHE WILL CAUSE THE CATALYSM, world poof.
2. If there was no Mondsadt, no journey, no player, no Genshin, humanity is gone. >>>>
Aether didn't save Mondsadt
Aether didn't save Liyue
Thus the ripple effect, Snezhaya, rebels, mankind poofed by Celestia.
Note: Venti stopped being friends with the Cryo Archon 500 years ago. Cryo = stuck in time, or a cause. Maybe Cryo knew that to end the cycle, they must do X to let X happen (Idk the missing piece)
3. The Fatui or the Cryo Archon rebels to Celestia, THEORITICALLY, what happens if Aether intervenes?
No wonder it's a fantasy game.
If Aether stops adventuring, the world ends.

Honestly, this helps me even more with my theory.
From what you said earlier, 'it's hinted that the role of Barbatos may be necessary for the story to unfold.', it gives me yet again, another feeling that Venti will sacrifice himself in order for the traveler to reach Celestia. If you were wondering how I came up with this theory, I looked at the similarities of slimes and the Archons.
-Electro slimes have two different types, most likely symbolizing Makoto and Ei.
-Geo slimes are a bit harder to decipher, but for now I'm going to assume it has a shield.
-Anemo slimes can shoot Anemo infused 'pellets', like Venti can shoot Anemo infused arrows.
But there might be one more similarity Anemo slimes and Barbatos that will most likely be shown at the end of the traveler's journey.
When Anemo slimes die, they can create wind currents, and it is also possible for Venti to create wind currents. There's a chance Venti will use all his power for the traveler to glide? up to Celestia.
I'm sorry to give Mihoyo so many ideas lmao 👁👄👁
My theory is that, this is the part where in genshin becomes connected to the honkai universe.
- Archons supervise 7 nations, 1 country emerges without any celestial supervision
- Khaenriah (idk the spelling lol) became so advanced compared to other nations because no God is holding them to achieve technological advancement thus the hunters, land tillers, and graders are made.
- The Archons are afraid of any technological advancement as Herschers might soon descend and wipe them all out.
- Thus the 7 of them agreed to destroy that 1 country with advanced technology to prevent the reset of all humanity.
- The bloodshed turned the Tsaritsa (cryo archon) against the celestia as her nature contradicts the slaughter that they made.
- One of the Harbringers is also heavily implied to be from Khaenriah
Imagine if we will someday use Paimon
