Those mini heads like the one you got are the best ratchet ever with the craftsman name just remember it will not work with grease but light oil only! Next step up would be TEKTON ratchets and better than most in my opinion!

Just call Stanley black and decker customer service ( they own the current craftsman company) . Instead of potentially wasting your time at Lowe’s or ace hardware only to be disappointed because of some employee on a power trip wants to be judge jury and executioner. SBD customer service is great, the entire process is quick and painless. I too have been scorned by the box stores and started doing this instead. It’s way easier. Trust me.

9 times out of 10 the grease dries out and it likely just needed to be taken apart cleaned and greased and that was a old one!

Went through a hassle yesterday at Lowe's. I had a single 1/4 inch wrench extension out of an 88 piece tool kit that was definitely manufactured wrong. Even though tool had a number and they sold that same individual part with same number off shelf. An associate said no problem. Customer service said no though. They wanted me to return the whole 88 piece tool kit. I was also on my motorcycle... After a bunch of back and forth they finally swapped it out. All I can say is Lowe's and craftsman should get on the same page on their return policy.

Laredo Texas lowes wouldn't help me. Had a half and a three eights ratchet that were jammed. They said since I bought them over 15 years ago at Sears and didn't buy them at Lowe's they would not swap them out. It took me two weeks dicking around on the craftsman site to finally get anywhere

You did yourself a disservice by turning that in. All that they require 9 times out of 10 is to dismantle them, clean them up of the old hardened grease (which as noted by others should never be used, only oil) and then reassembling them with new lube. If you MUST use grease, a sparing amount of Superlube from HF works well. You'd then have a ratchet that would give you another 40+ years of service.
Failing that and assuming that something is broken inside, kits can be had on Ebay that will repair it like new. I can rebuild those in 10 minutes flat, start to finish and they work like new when I'm done. I've literally done that exact model ratchet (and the 44975 just like it) dozens of times over. I've bought many a "broken" ratchet on Ebay and merely cleaned and relubed it to work like new.
Anything you get from Lowes, Sears (if you can find one) or Ace today (and yes, I have one of the newer USA made 88-piece sets, I actually have two sets of them) is inferior compared to that ratchet you turned in.

That was going to be my comment. I didn't think anyone traded in Craftsman Forged in the USA tools for Chinesium tools. Rebuild kits are available on eBay.
I haven't asked Craftsman online if they sell the rebuild kits or not but it's worth checking. I have a click type torque wrench with the same tear drop head. Sears would never warranty it because it was a torque wrench. I was able to get the salesman to give me a rebuild kit. He came back with 3 of them. He even rebuilt my torque wrench with one of the kits and gave me the other 2.

@@fauxque5057 No. When SBD bought the Craftsman name, they did not take over the kits and subsequently, there aren't any kits (that I know of) that are offered from SBD. They would just replace the ratchet. 9 times out of 10, a good cleaning and relubing of the ratchet gets it working again.

I have been turned down on quite a few Craftsman lifetime warranted items and still have them. Items such as punches, hand files, taps and dies, even a Craftsman( lifetime warranty) table vise would not be accepted. Excuse on files, taps or dies was “ no cutting tools warranted. Is it possible they have assumed the Craftsman name but not it’s obligations? An example, I took a Sears Craftsman(marked on vise) back to a Sears store. Manager brought out and told me Craftsman vises did not have lifetime warranty! I brought the vise home, finally found the box it came in. On the box it plainly stated that “This Craftsman vise has a Lifetime warranty etc, etc. When I returned to store the manager was very mad and replaced the vise with a new one, and told me flat out that this one would not be Lifetime warranted! The files, the punches came in plastic sleeves that stated these Handtools had the Craftsman lifetime warranty! Try to get one replaced without the original packaging!

Well I don’t believe tap and dies have a lifetime warranty. All other hand tools do but tap and die sets dont because they are considered “expendable” and wear out from normal use but all other hand tools they should absolutely exchange no matter how old it is because the damn thing still says craftsman on it. It’s very frustrating especially with inflation the way it is and if you use your tools to make money. It’s not like Lowe’s bank account is suffering.

Lowe's didn't "assume” the Craftsman name. I assume you meant acquire?
In any event Stanley Black and Decker purchased the Craftsman Brand. Lowe's is just a retailer. Your warranty is covered by SBD and if Lowe's doesn't have the same part number many times they won't swap out your tools.
Decades before Sears collapsed they got unfriendly with their returns. Ratchets weren't replaced, they were rebuilt. Tape measures were replaced with remanufactured units. Near the end of their demise I swapped out one of my remanufactured tapes and I was given a new tape instead. However the package says it has a 1 year warranty. It's still in the original packaging because I won't use it.
I have a whole bunch of Craftsman tools that they haven't manufactured in decades. Rubber tipped hammers, screw holding drivers, torque wrenches, ball peen hammers, calipers, distributor wrenches, odd shaped needle nose pliers, a nut splitter, swivel sockets, to name some. None of it is no longer available or replaceable.
I also have quite a few JC Penney lifetime tools. When the 3/8ths ratchet stripped out I decided to try and return it. This was around 2005 and JCP quit the tool business in the early 1980's. The girl in Customer Service wasn't even born when JCP sold tools. And that's pretty much what she said when she said that she didn't even know that JCP sold tools. She called the Manager. He knew they sold them, and said he hadn't seen a return in years. What he did was look up the comparable Craftsman ratchet and then gave me a cash refund. I no longer have a complete set but at least he paid me.

@@cameronforeman1043 The 40pc. Tap and die set box has(had) a label that stated if this Craftsman hand tool ever failed , to return it for replacement. The Craftsman hand tool warranties explicitly stated no receipt or other document needed for exchange. How can Craftsman tools be sold and not honor their warranty?

This is entirely dependent on the local store. The one I went to refused to exchange a wallowed out socket because my socket was 12 pt and isn’t made anymore. They wouldn’t exchange it for a 6 pt because it wasn’t identical
