Just ordered the black version, used to have an Aeron at my old job, but id say the Sayl meets the max price id pay for a chair. Great review man, much appreciated!
@@AnywhereMiami most chair manufacturers give you a 3 year warranty, loads of people have herman millers from 20 years ago. might pay for 3 or 4 cheaper chairs in that time and have arguably worse chairs
I just saw it for 399.99. It says half off but im not sure if that's really a deal but I got my tempurpedic chair on sale for 279.99 instead of 350. Its so lovely, and cushiony.TP4000. It is actually 365 now so it's almost the same price, so cozy though.
i ordered this chair a week ago for $725. i canceled my order because now there is a spring sale and it cost $616. im so happy that i canceled it in time haha
I have a Sayl and its a really great chair I plan to have for a long long time. I suggest going with the non-gaming version. First of all you dont have to pay for the "gaming" markup and the regular version comes with more customization options for ergonomics and colors.
I've looked into it, and if I'm I understand correctly, having the same adjustable options as the gaming variant (i.e. fully adjustable arm rests and adjustable seat depth) costs $835 vs. the $775 of the gaming version. If you start customizing the colors for the non-gaming version (which are limited), the price goes up even further. You get to add the lumbar support, but at a significant increase in cost if you have the same base options as the gaming version :(
@@tch204 Wait for a sale....on the Sayl. I got a regular version with all "upgrades" minus the lumbar support for $650. I skipped on out lumbar because the sales agent at the store said its not that beneficial and she didnt think it was worth the extra dough.
Funny story, I notice the existence of Herman Miller on a book I was reading, Blink by Michael Gladwell, and also I'm that crazy animal crossing gamer, so this chair in teal is a YES for me!!!
I've had mine a few days and I'm really pleased. I kept the cost down by opting for the all black and getting the height adjustable arms (not the 4d) and leaving off the additional lumbar support on advice from the sales person, but got everything else. The chair was originally designed without additional support and it works just fine. The back is surprisingly comfortable and the seat is firm but comfy. Would definitely recommend!
Hey Craw, what are you long term impressions now? Any issues? Can you comment on the reclining only feel or does it let you go upright comfortably and naturally? Any adjustments/lumbar you wish it had. Any material wear on the seat/cushion, how's she holding up?
@@eddieneyman4035 Still absolutely love it. I'm 46 and work a pretty physical job, and after a days work, I still love settling into my battle station for gaming sessions. I still highly recommend this chair. The materials still look brand new, the fabric is great. Not to sound like a fanboy, but this chair is great. I've got no regrets.
hi, is your chair noisy ? specially when your back touches the back of the chair i get a clicky squecky sound so when i move around a lot its very annoying.....
If you're over 6 feet tall I would suggest you look elsewhere, I'm 6'2" and I found this chair to be rather uncomfortable...the whole thing just felt too small - I couldn't make it tall enough to get my legs at a comfortable angle, I couldn't slide the seat pan out far enough to accommodate my the top half of my legs, and the back of the chair was too short and pressed right under my shoulder blades.
Of the Herman Millers that I can tell this one gives the most ASS Support (Firm) aside from perhaps the Embody but the Mirra and Aereon are less supportive and more cusion like. Firm is what I like/snjoy.
@ I agree that most gaming chairs are trash , but I don’t think u needa spend $500 for this chair or $1000+ for one of those Aeron, I’m feeling great with my $140 staples chair. Welp different people have different standards ig
Great video . . . . . BUT I am really intrigued as to EXACTLY what makes a 'gaming chair' different from an 'office chair' ? In reality the truthful answer to this is 'absolutely nothing' other than marketing purposes???
Great review! I got an Aeron in 1999 and it remains in excellent shape for my spouse now working at home. Need to replace the foam lumbar and foam seat pan ring because they wear out over time, but it is still rocking otherwise. I just ordered a Sayl from HM for myself bec/grad school efforts will be home-based for foreseeable future. Hope you still enjoy your chair.
With the 12 year guarantee the amount of value you get out of this is probably better then an ikea or staples chair which will bairly last 5 years. Embody, Aeron and Cosm are expensive and there you definitely pay a premium for the extras you get but saying the Sayl is overpriced is borderline stupid for what you get
I have love-hate relationship with Sayl. The seatpan has a very weird shape, so you posterior is kind of hanging off it and is sandwiched between the plastic backrest and the seatpan which is not comfortable at all. This chair has no vertical position. The default position is reclined around 15-20 degrees. I looks like it's S-curved, but in reality the curve is so low, that you basically always seat recline and that causes neck strain. If you want to seat kind of upright, you have to use forward tilt. The problem is that this places armrests and seatpan in a very awkward position, reminds me of riding a motorcycle with clip-ons. The tiltlimiter is there, but the spring in this chair even at the lowest setting is so strong that the seat won't recline even to the first "tilt-lock" position if you weight 63 KG or less (neither me, not my girlfriend can put it to tiltlock position with just body weight, we have to flex leg muscles to do that). I have to put couple of ankle weights to the backrest to make it work more or less properly. I have no idea how HM designed this chair, but it does not follow the curvature of human spine and does not let you seat in an upright position without slouching. I always find myself slouching in this chair and trying to find comfortable position instead of working. I try to give it a chance everyday, but end up switching back to either ikea work chair or a regular chair. Anyone buy it from me? I am in Portugal.
Yeah dude. Disagree with your post. Either you were sitting on a lemon or it doesn't exist. The one I tried in store provided full support from my entire back, plus had the comfiest seating (had a more firm support vs. The Aeron and Mirra2). So keep that in mind folks. Try it yourself. p.s. no slouching - you're so well supported you wouldn't need to!! Learn more about the chair; Set your desk & screens right; you should have everything you need unless you're doing it wrong.
@@yuribillones5094 He's right about the spring in the chair being so strong that it's hard to recline tho. I've had the problem in the showroom too and i'm 5'1 and quite lightweight. It's the only downside for me about the chair, but enough of a downside that makes me not wanna spend that much money on it. I'd get an Aeron A instead, but there the seat depth is way too long proportionally, it hits my legs. Idk wtf HM were thinking.
Hey dude, had a look through your vids and didn't see a review, just wondering if you liked it or not? Cheers P.s. of the Sayl reviews I've watched so far I really like this review style the most!
The Gaming Sayl where i live has the Medley fabric instead of the Sync fabric, is it still worth getting over the regular Sayl? The regular Sayl uses the Cosmos fabric. The cost difference between the two is about 37. Both don't come with the adjustable lumbar support.
Thanks for this video. I bought an all black Sayl about a month ago. Your review helped me to decide which chair as I was looking at loads of them. The Sayl isn’t a big monster chair as you pointed out. Just big enough and doesn’t take over the whole room. Super comfy and I just love it. So thanks a lot. Sorry I do not know your name.
I think the HM Logitech G embody chair is by far the best out in the market right now. I was able to find one brand new for $1100 shipped to my door. I love my embody chair.
the gaming branding is purely a marketing thing as you say, the official Herman Miller site says they've worked together with pro-gamers and Logitech to create the new Embody, but I doubt it's much different from the others. What counts is the fundamentals
The whole point is that the chair lasts for 10-12 years. Meanwhile the cheaper racing chairs will not last as long, so you'll go through more chairs paying the same amount or even more. But while the HM chair also lasts longer it's also made by people who know something about ergonomics. Although the actual seat comfort should be tested before you fully commit to it.
It's a well build piece of furniture and designed to last, the value over time is appropriate. I work a physical job, and when I get home and game it's the most relaxing and comfortable chair I've owned. An investment for sure, but several months later I've no regrets.
The build quality of HM chairs are superb, this one is no exception. Another reason why they dare to slap a 12 year warranty on them. Because of that, the price is well justified. It is also more comfortable vs the gaming chairs I've sat on (this statement is subjective, as the feel of a chair, especially the seat, varies too much from person to person).
If you tilt back it will stay back until you choose to sit back up. There's a couple different recline positions, and a forward tilt position. The tension is adjustable too, so you can decide how much force is needed to tilt it. So it doesn't lock back, but it doesn't try to push you forward either.
