  • Episode 34. I just received a surprise gift from my brother-in-law in Ontario, and what a gift! I finally get to try out Dr. Don Livermore's Dissertation work. This is a result of his study on casks, char levels, and age and its effect on the whisky we love. If you like Canadian Rye, you should seek this out. However, it's only available in Ontario and there is not much left so you might want to hurry. Thanks again Dave, you're the best! #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

    Now I'm getting jealous... I have heard nothing but great things about this whisky.

      foodquig it is an excellent Canadian, with strong rye. I thought they were getting rare, but since posting this I have heard there are more around. Might need to get someone in ON to ship :)

      From what I know it's only available in Ontario. Not even Quebec and Manitoba has it. i gave a bottle to my friend so she can share it at Macau.

      A follow up. My friend brought it to a dinner and they prefer this over Port Ellen 16th release.

    Excellent review. After seeing your video I was at an LCBO store here at Ottawa and saw this bottle, so I go it. You described this whisky perfectly. Interestingly, this whisky is no longer listed in the LCBO web page, but apparently there are some stores that still have it available.

    Wow, what a sophisticated whisky. I bought a bottle of this a month or so ago, partly on your say so. Tried it for the first time tonight. Thanks for helping to turn me on to it. Love your channel by the way.

    J.P. Wiser's Dissertation is still available in Australia and must not be well known. Based on your review and personally loving Lot 40 also, I went and got a bottle and am loving it! Since it's no longer in production, I bought a couple more bottles to enjoy in the years to come. Canadian whiskey is a little under appreciated I think.

      What a find!! I would pay far too much for a bottlen of that. Good liquid, and an awesome story

    You say you wish this was aged a bit longer. I believe there were originally 113 barrels filled for this, but only 60 were used for this bottling. He is saving the rest for another release...... Could we get an older, bigger brother of this!!?? Great review video.

    I just had Dissertation a couple days ago with a friend and we drank it next to Wiser's Last Barrels! Dr. Don Livermore is just killin' it with these limited releases! Great review...and did you notice, Dissertation has the thickest legs I've ever seen on a glencairn! What a whisky!

    12 yrs old at minimum, and you are correct re: effects of wood and char level (lighter being better).

      Love it. Happy to have some spares squirreled away. I think it really disproves the notion that "blends" are inferior. This is a top-notch whisky in every sense.

    Awesome Review John....you do such a good job with getting natural light. I need to order some professional lights for the man cave....I know my lighting needs some serious work:) I still haven't tried JP Wiser!

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  6 років тому

      Thanks Keith. I really seek out natural light now, it seems to fix all kinds of strange shadow or odd colour. However, in the depths of winter, it's really hard to find good natural light up here. Thankfully the days are getting longer! As for JP Wiser, they make a very wide range from "mix only" up to their 35 year release. I have not had any of that bottle yet, but would easily recommend this Dissertation or the Union 52.

    great review Jon, how many whiskeys and scotches do you have in your collection?

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  6 років тому

      Andrew Macgibbon I should go count, but this is something I am trying to reduce. I can think of about 30 opened bottles and a dozen or so yet to be uncorked. With the flavour change that happens over time, I am more and more concerned now with finishing off bottles before moving on. However, it is so exciting to open a new expression and discover it's peaks and valleys. It is hard not to want to discover a new taste. Do you have a large collection? Or do you enjoy only a few bottles at a time?

    • @andrewmacgibbon1172
      @andrewmacgibbon1172 6 років тому

      i try to keep it low. about 4 to 6 bottles at a time. unless something really special comes out then ill buy another bottle. ive been discoving a lot of new whiskeys due to your channel. great job keep up the good work.

    Nice review. Ive enjoyed a few of these bottles. I have one signed by Dr Don Livermore himself. It might be worth noting that all of the barrels were vigin american white oak.

      dwaynejava wow! I admit to being a bit jealous. Yes! I should not have left that out. Great addition! Do you know the blend ratios? Distilled.com indicates 87% Rye and 13%Corn, but I can't confirm that.

    I have read this is 12 years old and Davin says the 150 is 16 years. Personally I like the Dissertation more being a rye head. Still 1185 bottles in inventory so it will be around for a while.

      peter white Great to hear there is stock still. 12 years surprises me. I would have pegged it between 8 and 10. Still, a great whisky.
