2020 Yamaha NMax 155 - Overview and Ergonomics

  • I take a look at the 202 Yamaha NMax 155, giving an overview of the specifications of Yamaha's urban scooter, as well as a look at the ergonomics, or how this scooter fits me as a rider, and how that may apply to you.
    The NMax 155 runs the same powerplant as the R15, a 155cc single-cylinder, with VVA and running a V-Belt automatic transmission for turn and go performance.
    LED headlight and taillight are joined by simple indicators, with a small screen that offers minimal wind protection but spices up the front end. ABS is standard fitment to the 230 mm disc brakes front and rear, which alongside a 127 kg wet weight ensures good stopping power.
    Telescopic forks and dual rear shocks offer a sporty ride, with 135 mm of ground clearance, while the seat height is 765 mm with two foot well positions that allow you to stretch out.
    A simple dash offers speed, fuel and fuel effeciency, with trip meters and clock, with no fancy electronics.
    13 inch wheels are ideal for this size scooter, which probably won't be doing highway speeds of over 100km/h, and Dunlop Scoot Smart tyres are standard fitment.
    Underseat storage will fit a full face helmet (upside down) while you should also be able to fit a light jacket and gloves in as well.
    While relatively simple, the NMax 155 offers a good value scooter in the smaller capacity region, without resorting to asthmatic performance, and is available for $5249 here in Australia, which interestingly is $450 more than the R15 V3, but does include ABS as standard fitment.

    This is good to lane filter on (740 mm), I can get down gaps I could on my old Z250SL. :) Plenty enough grunt off from the lights. Cheap to run and no having to muck around with foot peddles and clutches.

    This scoot is also good for long rides. Thisis the scoot they use here to travel the whole philippines but of course you also need to upgrade it if you really want it for longer rides. And lots of comfort

      It's a great all-rounder really. I think the XMax has more comfort out of the box, but really the NMax offers a lot for a small capacity machine.

      It is the number 1 selling bike in the Philippines and for good reason. It is a great ride, and I've owned many, many bikes over the years. My ownly complaint is not with the bike but with Yamaha. They have made the factory repair manual unobtainable to the average owner and from my observations, I do not trust the dealer's service departments in the Philippines.

    This is the old version of nmax. That is a version 1. Other countries in the south east asia had update the nmax version. With traction control, dual abs front and rear, keyless switch, gps (in case the scooter steal it), VVA tech, newer details.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  2 роки тому +1

      This has VVA, but misses the TC and some other features. I think the 2021 gets the keyless and some of those newer features, but not sure if it has TC in Australia.

    For anyone who owns one of these, what's the widest part of the body (not the mirrors or the handlebars)?
    I currently have my motorcycle (Kawasaki Z400) in a storage shed with a narrow doorway (73 cm).
    Would this fit in there, or would the exhaust/engine catch on the sides of the doorway?

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  2 роки тому

      The quoted figure is 740 mm (74 cm) wide including bars and mirrors, which are a bit wider than the rest of the bike, it'd probably be a tight fit though. Most of the mirror lens and half the grips on each side extend past the bodywork based on my photos.

      @MotoJournoKris  3 роки тому +1

      You'd definitely want to check one out in person, especially with the two foot positions and seat it can really vary. I've got a 32 inch inseam and you can see there's a fair bit of room when I'm sitting between my knees and the controls/grips. Making sure you're not cramped and there's plenty of clearance between your knees and the controls and front bodywork inside the footwell would be the big thing for me.

    Could you take this easy on a hwy? I’m in Perth only

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  3 роки тому

      Depends how you define easy. For 90-100km/h sure, however it's probably not a machine I'd choose if I wanted to cruise at 110 for longer distances though. But to put that in context, I like to have a nice bit of extra power for overtaking on the highway and the ability to probably cruise comfortably at 120 on the dash (as that's closer to 110 after speedo error on most machines).

  • @jonathanalbetrendon808
    @jonathanalbetrendon808 3 роки тому +1

    Question: is it highway legal on your country?

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  3 роки тому

      It is, but we don't have restrictions related to that. I personally would only want to do short stretches though as generally the speed limit is 110 km/h and you're pushing quite hard, or being overtaken by a lot of vehicles, so a slightly larger machine would be my choice if I was doing a lot of highway. It does have a lot of performance for the capacity though, relatively speaking.
