Guys, think about it, where would they hear it? Young people don't listen to old music. Their friends dont listen to it. It's not on their radio stations. Where?
We who lived and listened through the 70's are "spoiled" musically. A & A may just be on the cusp of grasping the reasons we are lukewarm on current soul-less new music.
Ted Templeman produced all of the the Doobie Brothers' albums. He's a genius. He also produced Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey" and all of the Van Halen albums, among others.
Doobie Brothers were so professional sounding compared to a lot of bands of that era. They were incredibly popular. As everybody says - China Grove, Jesus is Just Alright and Black Water, which will be stuck in your head for days.
My Doobie votes go to Black Water, and Takin' It To The Street. Have to say my friends, you're helping me hear old favorites with a new perspective.Thank you.Cheers !
Listen to the Music was released in 1972, my senior year of high school. I remember you couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing this song. I loved it then and I still love it now. Such a great “ feel good” song, played at many parties!

Man - seeing these videos. Makes me realize how lucky we were to have these musicians playing on the radio every day. That was our medium. Radio. Soundtrack of our lives.
China Grove next! Has to be! May I also suggest Elton John "Funeral for A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" first track on the 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road [remastered 2014] studio version please! The live is good but just does not compare to studio. I really think you will be surprised as hell, it is a masterpiece!
grew up hearing all their songs in the background. Knew they were good, and classics. But never realized how good b4 seeing someone experience them for the first time.
If you guys haven't already, check out some Gordon Lightfoot. Some of his best include: If You Could Read My Mind, Sundown, and of course, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
"China Grove", "Black Water" , "Take Me In Your Arms" - too many to list. Great band, still performing for their 50th anniversary this year. Thanks for posting.
One of my all time favs by the Doobies. Catchy AF. Just doesn't get old. Classic in every sense of the word. S tier for sure. Must do "Black Water" next.
Yes, indeed. This brought a big smile to my face. The song sticks in one's head! haha. I recommended Takin' It to the Streets, but really... There's so many to pick from, I thought I'd add another log to the fire! Have a lovely weekend flubblert. :)
@@lisaw5604 they do have a little ways to go that's for sure. so many classics. and btw, they still tour. 50th anniversary tour this year. Nothing like jamming to the Doobies outdoors under the sun or stars in the summertime. saw them a few years ago just north of Chicago and I can confirm they still sound pretty damn good! our boys might want to keep a lookout if they want to take in some truly classic live rock this summer. Have a good one Lisa!!
@@flubblert Oh, that's great to hear they're still rockin' it out at a high caliber! Great suggestion for A&A to maybe catch them live, while they're still touring! Thanks, flubblert. :)
Check out What a Fool Believes with Michael McDonald on vocals. They went from blues influenced rock to jazz influenced rock when McDonald joined. Black Water is another early good one.
I saw them this past year in Kansas City. This was their final song of the night. It was a message to all of us… Listen to the music. Not just with your ears but with your heart and your soul
There's a reason this song was their final encore number when I saw them in '77. Their fans just love the tune, the melody and the lyrics. "Keep listening to the music" is the whole message behind the song, and that's what the fans love to hear and be told. It's a self-sustaining circle of energy between the band and the listeners, even while being a smooth, gliding along tune that doesn't take you to the edgier heights of "China Grove" or "Long Train Runnin'". It just plain ol' satisfies. Been listening to this song for 45 or more years and it took you guys pointing out the high "Listen to the music" vocal before I noticed it. What?!?! A little perk for my Friday. Thanks.
I'm a percussion fan and one of my favorites is "Burnin' Down the House" by Talking Heads. There's a live version from the album "Stop Making Sense" It's one of my favorite albums. Hope you guys can pull it out of the dust heap of lost gems. Love you both!
This was most everybody's introduction to the Doobies, along with "Jesus is just Alright". You've definitely got two different "Doobie Brothers" bands and sounds. The Tom Johnston Doobies and the Michael McDonald Doobies. You've been hearing the TJ Doobs, try "Taking it to the Streets" or "Minute by Minute" as an example of the MM Doobs. Radically different vocal styles and MM's keys come into play as well.
The Doobie Brothers breakaway first hit. Tom Johnson writer. Their vocal harmonies are always a focus. They will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. They still tour and make music, 50 years later!
The Doobies had a lot of hits in the 70's, but this is my favorite of theirs. And hearing the bass being driven by Tiran Porter makes it even better to me.
You guys have got to listen to more Zappa! These three are some of his best imo, very excellent: - I’m The Slime One of Frank’s most accessible and popular songs, and for a good reason. It’s off of the album “Overnite Sensation”. - Zomby Woof This is also from “Overnite Sensation”. First saw the Doobie Brothers back in the 70’s. The “ What were once vices are now habits” tour! What a great group! That album has some great grooves!
Guys! It's time to revisit Jethro Tull. The song "My God" has some mindboggling flute. Tull provides an uncomparable sound and this song captures that. "Songs from the Wood" is another.
@JD Chase Like I said no place for that here. If you're triggered maybe you should leave the internet and go find a safe space but, please take your outrage somewhere else!
True story!! Back in the mid 70’s, my BF and I were at a local bar in Connecticut enjoying a live band. The Doobie Bros were in the area for a concert and came into the bar. They sat in with the band and jammed until closing. #greatmemories Next try China Grove or Jesus is Just Alright!
Hey A & A I was born in 1960 & I was the youngest of 6 & I was fortunate to jam out listening to music during the 60s & 70s & it was great ! Try some Emerson Lake & Palmer !😎
What you must do next is see them in concert. They've been touring, and I've seen them each of the last three summers. Tickets are ridiculously affordable and they pack the venue. And such a synergy between them and their fans, such a shared love. Catch them while you can... we're all getting older.
Absolutely my fav song of theirs!!! One of my top classic rock songs period! Roll the windows down! (I do have many!) “Black Water” next! Please-you will not regret! This is still my favorite!! ❤️🤘🏼✌️
“Listen to the Music” was “Our Song” with my high school girlfriend and I ! We are now in our early 60’s and live different lives but still contact each other nearly every time one of us hears it somewhere. 45 years years later!
OK - explanation I was pregnant with my second child and that line "doncha feel it growing day by day" just resonated. Plus the song is harmonic bliss! What joy! I named her Emily Love.
Great reaction guys! In a way this is a simple, yet complex song. It’s what makes this band so great. Black Water has to be next, I know, without a doubt, that you’d love it!
Long Train Runnin’ and Listen to the Music are my all time favorite songs. I fell in love with them hard. Like he said, they both just have such a full sound. The Doobies during that era were just amazing. ✌️😎
The Doobie Brothers are about the music and having fun, not individual accolades or such. Their greatest hits albums is a road trip by itself, they have an amazingly upbeat and feel good sound and always kept your feet moving. and the one guy looks like Andy Travis from WKRP in Cincinnati, I loved that show.
This is such a nostalgic song for me, growing up with it playing all the time. You should definitely check out The Guess Who, a great Canadian band of amazingness. These Eyes is really good, American Woman is amazing. Happy Friday!

Bingo!
Lucie Melahn , another great song written by Pat Simmons
Wise One , south city midnight lady, another great song written by Pat Simmons. He also wrote Black Water, and many others.
No autotune, no pro tools, all done on tape, real vocals, real musicians......real music.
Exactly! Nobody really plays their music anymore.

I CAN DIG IT
When white groups had so much soul
The 1970’s was a golden cornucopia of musical goodness
The Doobies during the Tom Johnston years(70-75) were one of the best boogie bands ever.
Plus they sounded great live, even better than on the albums!
Tom will always be my favorite!
I'll repeat the sentiments of some of your viewers, Black Water and China Grove

China Grove. Only because I remember getting sick of hearing Black Water on the radio back then and it wasn't my favorite song of their's anyway.

@JD Chase Like I said no place for that here. If you're triggered maybe you should leave the internet and go find a safe space but, please take your outrage somewhere else!
Me too. Charlotte rally tonite! Lissen to the Trumpster!
Outlaws are great: There Goes Another Love Song; Hurry Sundown; Ghost Riders, Wishing Wells, Steam on the Blacktop
Gotta give Tiran Porter some props. His bass lines are always beauty.
That high pitch strum is a mandolin
Time for some more Doobie Brothers “south City Midnight Lady” is an early deep cut…I guarantee…you will love it!
La Grange by ZZ Top guys.....channel rocks
some ZZ Top yes
Yes! You're not alone w/ La Grange suggestion today! I see a couple others as well... Good sign! :)
Beer drinkers and hell raisers👍.
Thought we was talking Doobies.
this just one of those songs it almost impossible to walk away from not feeling happier then when it started
True story!! Back in the mid 70’s, my BF and I were at a local bar in Connecticut enjoying a live band. The Doobie Bros were in the area for a concert and came into the bar. They sat in with the band and jammed until closing. #greatmemories
Next try China Grove or Jesus is Just Alright!
Dawn Riccardi boy, did you ever luck out!
lotta peeps on that stage?
Greg Dahlen Eventually, the house band joined the audience! 😊
Helene Spaulding: It was a little bar in Manchester, CT called “The Rocking Horse”.
Hey A & A I was born in 1960 & I was the youngest of 6 & I was fortunate to jam out listening to music during the 60s & 70s & it was great ! Try some Emerson Lake & Palmer !😎
Manfred Mann Blinded By The Light!!! Whoa!!!!
Congratulations to the Doobie Brothers Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2020
You guys need a little 'Jesus Is Just All Right'!.
Yeah.. that one too! 😀
One of the most iconic guitar riffs in rock history! The first note plays and off you go into on of the sweetest sounding songs ever!
“Listen to the Music” was “Our Song” with my high school girlfriend and I !
We are now in our early 60’s and live different lives but still contact each other nearly every time one of us hears it somewhere. 45 years years later!
"Without You" One of the Doobie's best Rockers
There's the Doobie Brothers before Michael McDonald, and the Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald - it's all great stuff!
No way you can do a road trip without Steve Miller's Jet Airplane or Led Zep Going to California...
I think the high pitch stringed instrument is a mandolin .
Alex - "Dude, you were so lost in the sauce"
Andy - "Dude, that was some deep sauce"
No lie, I have listened to this music a thousand times....maybe an understatement.
They will like Black Water I think
You two just prove that my generation had the best music. I was born in 1960 and always and still love 60s-70's music.
Doobie Bro’s. suggestions: China Grove, Takin’ It To the Streets, Jesus Is Just Alright, What a Fool Believes
Love this live version of takin' it to the streets ua-cam.com/video/i9_e0rRvyz8/v-deo.html
Long Train Runnin’ and Listen to the Music are my all time favorite songs. I fell in love with them hard. Like he said, they both just have such a full sound. The Doobies during that era were just amazing. ✌️😎
Such a wonderful feel-good song. Love it.
Loved it too. It lifts the spirits & brings a smile to one's face. Great weekend to you! :)
Sooo glad you guys jumped in theDoobie sauce. My high school years revisited. Thank you for enjoying them as much as we did. ❤️
You guys need to jump into some Little Feat " Dixie Chicken" on the Waiting for Columbus LP.
Or just about anything off "The Last Record Album"
whatever you do, don't bogart that joint my friend
@@stevious7278 Time loves a hero!
Fatman in the bathtub.
Don't forget Rad Gumbo!
Best rock song of all time
I'd love to see some Clapton, Derek And The Dominoes and Cream on here 🎸
“Cocaine” for sure! And you kinda have to do “Layla”, but which version? 🤔
I suggested Layla previously, which frankly is a no brainer. Should have been among the first reviews.
@@Alicatie definitely Derek and the Dominoes, "Layla and other assorted love songs" album. Classic. Duane Allman on the slide
Yes please GINGER BAKER!
They are so good in concert! Any live video would be worth listening to. If you see them in concert - "Listen to the Music" is the closing song.
