Jamal, I'm a 71 yr ol' white guy that just loves your channel because of your love for the music I've loved for 50 yrs. Your appreciation for so many kinds of music makes me feel like we could have been good friends. I'm totally with you in the fact that music can soothe the savage beast in all of us. Peace brother.

It is a trip to see Jamel's reaction to the music that we lived. I'm also 71 and believe our Government keeps us apart, so they can continue to take what they want. This lyric is the best, You don't know me but you're my brother. Peace out.

Haha I graduated in '71 and next week I'll be 71! The music of the 60s and 70s is still a great joy and comfort to me, and I still feel 1965-1975 was the greatest 10-year span in popular music history. So many diverse sounds and styles, all hitting at the same time! Hey Jamal, another great song that celebrates music is David Crosby's "Music is Love" off his fantastic "If Only I Could Remember My Name" album. Neal Young is singing background on it with him.

Jamel, you said “Why can’t we get it together?”
I really think the reason why we had so much
incredible music in the 70’s is because, we actually were “getting it together”.
Black, white, Hispanic, Asian and everyone else that’s gonna get offended by me saying this. All of us that were young adults and older, when this song came out, will understand what I’m saying. This new found appreciation for each other is what inspired a lot of this great music. Listen to “Everyday People” by Sly & The Family Stone.
You’ve only touched your toe in the water of the lake of great music from this era. There was a lot of songs about peace, love and harmony.
America was finally trying to recognize the divisiveness of racial relations There were still many problems, but there was an air of “we can do this, if everyone participates and get’s it together”. I’m sorry if I didn’t state it exactly the way others think I should have. Get over it. That’s the way we said it to be part of the conversation.
Then the politicians stepped in. Need I say more? No I don’t. Just like today. Everyone has an agenda. It’s really sad. We were going in the right direction back then, in the 70’s.
I could write a book and I’m sure someone will be mad at me. I’m old enough to know that nowadays, everyone is too quick to judge and dismiss others. Worry about your own heart instead of bullying everyone else.
Everyone makes mistakes in life. That’s life.
I know, I haven’t knowingly tried to hurt or
make a negative impact on someone else.
I’m going to delete this shortly.
I’m just sad and mad at what is going on today.
Two steps forward and ten steps back.
Jamel, you’re a great light in this dark world we have right now. Keep it up, Brother. You give me great hope for rescuing so many dark hearts and bringing us all so much happiness.
    We need you now…

I'll be 70 in a few more day and I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! You spoke from your heart, therefore, you said it very well.
Think of Woodstock - all those people of different color united by great music and NO VIOLENCE!!!!!
I'm not a religious person - but if I was God, I would send the world someone like Jamel. If his last name starts with "C" that would be too freaky of a coincidence - another J.C. to spread the word to love each other.

The politicians and rich, powerful people benefiting from tribalism realized they lost the culture wars. They put money, time and effort into pushing us apart. Because they know we greatly outnumber them, and if we're united as a people, we will take the power rightfully belonging to us away from them.

I was born in the right era....I got to enjoy 70s and 80s music. I was a child in the 70s but I still got to enjoy that music because of my older siblings. Yes there is a lot of hate in the world and that sucks. Of course they want others to be miserable....that’s why they say misery loves company. I don’t hate anyone. We are all human and all bleed the same color. I do believe that music unites us all.

This song is magnificent. The harmonies, that smooth bass line, those guitar licks, the message. It’s all there. It’s brilliant. I wish anyone in my generation could write something as fantastic as this song.

I've been playing in the same band for 35 years and every night I play, people have an awesome time. We're not the greatest musicians, but we work well together and you're right...music unites people.

I was there when it came out and I got it then and I'm still here now, an old fart, still getting it.... I too was born in the wrong generation just like you my brother. But we are the old souls. We are the ones who don't just hear music, we FEEL music. We understand. We have deep feelings. We can hear these beautiful tones and it resonates deep inside of us. But don't make no mistake, it doesn't end there. When we hear this music the way we do, we are able to transmute it. We can take the energy that they put out and we hear the sounds and feel these feelings and we can change it into electricity and we can put that electricity back out into the world in a form of positivity just as you are doing my friend. It gives me hope for the future that there is someone out there like you. There are so few like us in it seems that the whole world doesn't get it. But it is very evident that you do. God-bless you my brother and keep doing what you're doing and being who you are. Wonderful

I get what you are saying about feeling the music. Sometimes, just listening to a recording, especially a young person who is exceptionally talented, just brings tears of joy to my eyes. I get so choked up, that when my wife or kids ask me something, I can only nod or shake my head. No words... Songs like this affect me the same way, except they bring on such a happy feeling, that it is hard to contain the feeling. I have no way of actually putting that feeling into words. It's a feeling...This man is doing a wonderful thing. He is sharing fantastic music with all generations. He is sharing that feeling with everyone who listens. Sharing that energy! I hope that he succeeds, and keeps on sharing the feelings and energy with everyone! I hope he get's 10 million or more viewers too!

@@pg1171 Yes, it sounds like you have "it" as well. Some people may say that you are too sensitive or emotional , but as far as I am concerned, that is not the case. I think it is closer to a spiritual experience. Someone once told me about something called the gift of tears. I believe it is connected to this. I think maybe it is time that all of us individuals who have this ability of sensitivity to find what resonates with us and to send that energy in whatever way we can to the rest of the world. It just might be the only thing that can save us all....

Thank you so much, Jamal. You lighten my spirit, young man, and help me remember how much joy there is in the music of my childhood. I go from sorrow to gratitude in the first minute of playing your videos. Thank you!

When I was young, there was this preacher that used to make the rounds, named Brother Billy Mayo. His whole ministry was the evils of rock n roll. One of the bands he warned about was the Doobie Brothers. His reason for doing so was because the Doobie Brothers got their name from the time they were (gasp!) smoking a doobie and decided to name themselves after it. That was it, really. That's all he really had on them.

Naming them the Doobie Brothers was a crime? Hmmm

    • @ReverendBenzo

@@marymargaretmoore9034 No, not a crime. It was, to him, a reason why they were "bad" and you shouldn't listen to them.

There are preachers who preach against all rock music. I've heard a few sermons against it but I just couldn't bring myself to agree with them.
