Hi guys … this is the original lineup with Tom Johnston singing lead on this song… when Tom left the band for medical reasons Michael McDonald joined the band and their sound changed… most of us favor this original lineup… “ black water” should be next …thanks
@@boroblueyes I agree. Jeff "Skunk" Baxter asked Michael to join them when Tom Johnston had to exit for health reasons in 1975 and it ruined their sound completely. Never much liked them with McDonald at the vocal helm. Sigh ...
@@RexF1x It changed them from the rock/country rock and blues genre to the jazz/easy listening genre. Not my cup of tea, though the instrumental selections on the later albums were very good! Rock On Original Doobies! 🎸🎸🎸🎙😎😎😎⭐⭐⭐💖💖💖
I installed custom home theaters in Marin county back in the late 1990's thru the mid 2000's. One day my boss and I drove out to a large mansion and a gated entry. We buzzed and went up the huge driveway. got out, and tom Johnston, Lead singer for the Doobie Brothers, and lead on this song, greeted us. I grew up listening to the doobie brothers in the 1970's. this was a HUGE hit! So there I am, standing next to my rock idol, trying not to fanboy out. We walked thru his house, under remodel and gutted. Laid out a whole house custom audio video system and Home Theater system. Ended up spending months in his home, wiring up the house and installing A/V components. Great memory for me, and tom and his wife were fantastic people to be around. Peace to you both on your musical path. Love to you both.
The Doobies were one of the few rock bands to have 2 drummers. I saw them many times back in the day, and they were great live. This is what people call 'pre Michael McDonald' Doobie Brothers. When he joined the band, their sound completely changed. They still produced great music, just different. I suggest you listen to examples of both.
38 Special had two drummers as well, Steve Brookins and Jack Grondin. They're another awesome band from back in the day. "Hold On Loosely", "So Caught Up In You", "Back Where You Belong", "Wild Eyed Southern Boys". So many great songs!!
Even though I was never a big fan of the Doobie Brothers this again shows the talent that was around in the 60s and 70s. Playing amazing music without the technology of today to enhance their performances. What a time to be alive.
Music is an international language that can connect us all just like you've experienced. We're all wired to respond to music and it knows no international borders.
Was Tom Johnson singing??? I saw them in 75, China Grove tour and in I believe 76 taking it to the streets. Both great, but I prefer pre Michael McDonald Doobies...
Tom Johnston was their secret weapon. It's amazing to me how many great guitarists/singers/songwriters there were in the 70s. He was a triple threat, so-to-speak.
I love early Doobie Brothers grew up with listening to them as a teenager in the 70's before they changed. I do still like their current music as well when Michael McDonald joined them.
The video of this was a live performance but the audio was the actual studio version that was their first big hit. Definitely one of those songs that can take me back to my youth.
This was one of the biggest hits in (1972). That was the year I graduated high school, and this song was played at my senior prom. I cannot believe it's been 52 years since I graduated high school. Now I am a 70-year-old senior citizen watching today's youth reacting to the music of my youth. This is awesome and well appreciated by people like me who grew up with groups who actually played their instruments. Love your reactions. Florida USA.
Now this is what I've been waiting for my roommate in College had this album, and yes we did a little Doobie will listening 🎶 sometimes alot of Doobie's😮😅😊 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary 😂 Great Reaction👍
Great introduction song for a awesome band. 1974 growing up in Hawaii just turning 12 years old and their song BLACK WATER came out and I bought the 45 rpm single. (Thanks Mom!) Miss those times. Great Reaction MOA! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
In this performance you have Tom Johnston. Lead Vocals/ Guitar Pat Simmons. Guitar / Vocals Tiran Porter. Bass Jeff Baxter. Guitar John Hartman. Drums Keith Knutson. Drums / Percussion ** Side Note. ** Guitarist Jeff Baxter , besides being a very talented musician his side job is a counterterrorist expert who works with military defense contractors with top-secret pentagon clearance - with his big mustache & long pony tail……
I saw the Doobie Bros by accident about 20 years ago, they turned up at Farm Aid '01, unannounced and paid their own way just to be there. They were great!
Music is the international language. It doesn't matter what language you speak, a d# a d# in every language. it's what truly connects people without words.
"The Captain and Me" was their breakthrough album in England and has no bad songs on it. Like most great bands their songs run the gamut from southern country rock to ballads and they were one of the biggest groups of the '70's, just a welcoming cool sound. They have many more great songs to discover, enjoy yourselves another journey of discovery. Peace
Glad you got to this band. Right from my teenage years in the 70’s. Next check out “Taking It To The Streets” or “Long Train Running”. Of course there are dozens of other great Doobie Brother tunes to select from😁😉😊
One of the Classic Rock era's very greatest bands Andrei and Domenika! Their 2nd through 5th albums are icons of rock music with Tom Johnston on lead vocals, _before_ the Michael McDonald era. Hit after hit after hit after hit after ... They were on the radio almost non stop throughout the entire 1970s, believe it or not! Finally, after 50 years, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted them into its halls. Shame on them for taking so long!!! You two have no end of enjoyment ahead of you with the aforementioned albums, so don't miss out on them! 🎸🎸🎸🎙😎😎😎⭐⭐⭐💖💖💖💖💖
OOOOHH.. WHEN THAT CHORUS STARTED WITH THOSE HARMONIES. MY BODY TURNED INTO ONE GUIANT CHILL. YOU WONT FIND A BETTER ROAD TRIPPING MUSIC…. EVERY SONG A HIT OFF THE SECOND, THIRD, FOURTH N FIFTH ALBUMS. LUV THOSE SMILES..!! ROCK ON 👊🖖
They were a big influence when I was growing up and learning to play guitar. So many fun songs to learn and play! "The Captain and Me" album from them was the biggest influence - if you do another Doobie Brothers song pick one from that album!
I moved out to San Jose, Cal back in 1970 to attend college at San Jose State. I had a class with one of the members of the group. They were a regional hit but I had never heard of them being from Pennsylvania. Later Michael McDonald joined the group and they really took off. Thanks for reacting to the Doobie Brothers. Take care.....
If you look at the cover (inside cover I believe) of the Doobie Brothers "Minute by Minute" album, you'll see exactly what doobie means. Great classic Doobie tune. Great strings and great harmonies.
Hi guys … this is the original lineup with Tom Johnston singing lead on this song… when Tom left the band for medical reasons Michael McDonald joined the band and their sound changed… most of us favor this original lineup… “ black water” should be next …thanks
I can't listen to post Michael McDonald. When he joined, the Doobie Brothers just turned into the Doobies and it wasn't a sound I liked.
@@boroblueyes I agree. Jeff "Skunk" Baxter asked Michael to join them when Tom Johnston had to exit for health reasons in 1975 and it ruined their sound completely. Never much liked them with McDonald at the vocal helm. Sigh ...
The OG is my favorite version of the Doobies.

Many bands changed for some say for the better some say for the worse. Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, War for example
14 years old 1972 now 66 😊...still a big Fan. Greetings from a dutch guy living in Austria ❤
Bands always played this one at high school dances back in the day.
Great great great band!
This one of the most recognized songs from the 70s it's been played on American radio for 50 years and still playing great song
Yea so why wouldnt they know this son Strange

Wow, amazing! Thank you for sharing your great memories 😀
I always love the Doobie Brothers particularly their earlier music.

Good choice,Thank you. It's my favorite era of music.
My first concert! 1976😁
One of the best Doobie Brothers song and boy do they have many.
Great vibe! I can see Andrei and Dominicka boogeying out of their studio to this song…arms raised and then a hip bump! So much fun!
Correct, so much fun ☺️💚
This song came out in 1972. I was living in my first apartment after leaving home, and we wore this whole album out! Great memories. Thanks
Now why would these 2 know this song? Strange ...
Awesome 👍💚
Welcome to the Doobies!!! GREAT MUSIC!!!
Thank you Johnny for requesting another great classic song!
Outstanding !
More , please and thank you...
Those times were great days....wish you could have there.
Music is an international language that can connect us all just like you've experienced. We're all wired to respond to music and it knows no international borders.
Just saw them again last month. They close with this song. Pure joy from the audience. There are so many Doobie songs for you guys to hear.
Was Tom Johnson singing???

San Jose California here. Silicon Valley. They hung out at Guitar Showcase in the 60’s. When we were still many orchards now we are a concrete jungle.

Baxter is astounding, isn't he? A real Rocket Scientist and Rock Star all in one!
I saw the Doobie Bros by accident about 20 years ago, they turned up at Farm Aid '01, unannounced and paid their own way just to be there. They were great!
Deep catalog,...great catalog 👍
This was their very first big hit Single .❤
I thought Jesus Is Just Alright was their first big hit.
Take it from me, this is one of the best bands to listen to while casually driving out in the country on a chill day, it just flows so well.
Love the Doobies, seen them in concert 12 times. They still tour and sound better than ever!
The Doobie rabbit hole is a great one! 3 lead singers and a really great variety of sounds.
Growing up in the 70s and 80s we had such a huge variety of music. It was all good. This is my favorite song by them. May I suggest Black Water
They always put on great shows.
Love the Doobies,,,,💥💥💥🤘😎
The Doobies are still touring and sound as good as ever.
Love this song.
An awesome rabbit hole to follow.
this is happy music with or without the doobie...dive deeper into this group many great songs...
I live in Washington (state). Doobies are our state fruit/flower. And pets are excusable here in the US, we don't mind a little bark once in a while.
Watching you two always makes me smile!
👍I Agree😊 Peace✌️
Thank you 💚
I've loved the Doobies since the first time I heard them 😅!

A true classic song from a true classic band!
To be played extra loud while driving with the roof down. ❤
Only thing... it causes them red and blue lights to appear in your rear-view.
This song takes me back to my sophomore year in high school when I went to their concert and this was their big hit
The song "China Grove" is another great song of their many bangers!!!!
No comment about the band having 2 DRUMMERS? You don't see that very often. ❤
Long Train Runnin', Black Water, South City Midnight Lady
Consumed many doobies listening to these guys back in the day
Try Long train running
And China Grove
The Doobie Brothers are a brilliant band, their style goes across all types of genres. A very talented band. They have had many hits!
This song rarely fails to put a smile on those who react to it. 🙂 Of course, the yellow helmet helps a little...🤣
Hey Doobie brother pass that over here🎉

Glad you got to this band. Right from my teenage years in the 70’s. Next check out “Taking It To The Streets” or “Long Train Running”. Of course there are dozens of other great Doobie Brother tunes to select from😁😉😊

On stage with them in '74.
Another Park Another Sunday is their most underrated song. Well worth a listen.
Long Train Runnin' is another big hit from them - there were many!

The speed is a little fast. I was 20 years old when this came out 50 years ago so I've heard it a million times. Great song and an even greater band!!
