I think Roundabout can be very Useful in phase 1, beacuse Roundabout have a decent damage, a good EX and he can easily kill his minions, those purple demons in the first phase.
Yeah, Roundabout is I would say one of the best weapons in the game, and it's pretty decent for its EX damage. Again, 100% bring Spread, but the second weapon can be up to you,.
Something I thought was worth mentioning: The goat clap attack can be avoided more easily if you jump off to the side as his arms appear and dash towards the center of the screen. Unless your timing is on point, you risk hurting yourself on the Devil’s arms if you jump and dash away from the center.
Yeah! I do that if I mess up my jump or something similar. I didn't even think about mentioning that alternative way of jump dashing. I appreciate the comment!
Believe it or not, whetstone actually works well during this fight (mainly the first phase) since you can just parry the minions when they run close enough to you
Honestly, that seems pretty unnecessary. They're not hard to defeat at all and you're losing a charm slot when you could be using something like HEART RING especially. Turning for a half second to defeat a minion (which you don't even have to do anyways, just jump over them tbh) is more than a fair exchange for using something like Heart Ring or Coffee as your charm.
Hilda berg for me is the 4th most difficult boss to s-rank and I s-ranked the devil and Phantom Express while I was only trying to complete them in expert😅
@Onlyeditorsareallowedhere eh Wally is tough because of the 3rd phase and because that motherfucker doesn’t die if you don’t use coffee. I think he’s the second most difficult to s-rank
Man, the Devil, My Second favorite boss in the entire game Glad to see someone give even me new tips on how to do this (maybe I'll finally get my goal of a 1:40 S rank with him with all this new info) thanks. Can't wait to see more
I hope so too! I got a 1:37 on the unedited playthrough and I'm pretty sure I got that because I was spamming the HELL out of my EX's, so make sure to do that. 😁
I'll make sure My usual load out is a Peashooter and Spread shot. (I still with Peashooter cause I love it's EX move.) And the Astral Cookie since I prefer chalices play style alot more then the cups themselves. Which means I don't get heart ring but I have a lot more movement options which I rather have to get around some of the devil's first phase alot more easier
@@demonarcher1661 I can definitely see why you'd be using Ms. Chalice. Her roll, honestly easier mobility, and extra health I feel are more than enough to S rank The Devil. The Peashooter pick does kind of confuse me though. I understand that it's a weapon you like and it's EX is satisfying to use, but I think I'm being reasonable when I say you're slightly limiting yourself on your efficiency and effectiveness in beating The Devil. In the end, really just go with what you're comfortable with, but it is a good point to make I think. Many of the other weapons are more effective for this fight, namely Lobber, Roundabout, and Twist Up. Lobber has higher damage and more consistent damage with its EX, Roundabout is great mainly for its ridiculous EX shot damage but ALSO its effectiveness in clearing minion-like enemies (in this case the purple demons during the first phase and the purple WINGED demons during the 3rd phase) and Twist Up is pretty easy to hit here and also its ridiculous EX damage output. Again, I'm not trying to diss your choice of Peashooter, but nonetheless I would like mention this in case you're only using Peashooter because you LIKE IT and nothing else. I REALLY like Spread, but I can definitely understand that it's just not the best or right weapon for the job sometimes.
@@MrKap oh it's fully fair. Maybe it's Stockholm syndrome after my peashooter only challenge I did awhile back is why I just use it no matter what. Before that I always go with a good charge or Crack shot with the spread. I adore lobber and tried to use it more but even I have limits to how much I can stomach it with how I play. So I usually go with something I know I can rely more on myself. Heck with my best time with S rank Devil (Being 1:44) is with Charge and Spread. So maybe I'll go back to that usual load out I used to do.
If you have trouble with the Poker chip then use this. Immedietly when the second phase starts the poker chip will spawn on the far left or far right if it,s on the far right next the poker chip will come on the left of the right most platform then it will come in the middle then the left of the middle platfrom and finnaly on the left most platform this works same for the left to right this pattern goes on the 3rd phase too. Hope this tip helped
Heartring is so damn good for this fight ngl, I did him without bc I wanted to do the dlc content after S ranking all bosses and he was maybe the hardest ground type boss for that. That was literally hell. in his 3 phase there is so much bs going on that almost always something got me. If it was the falling chip, or that the platform was to high to dodge or the flying fuckers... But finally have it. Thanks for helping
I prefer using Crackshot for secondary because you dont need to aim when you arent close enough to the devil, your EX is a Parryable object, which gives you lives for lifering and the overall parry stat at the end.
Another good charm to use is the astral cookie. Miss Chalice's double jump not only makes dodging attacks way easier, but it also allows you to get inside of the devil's hurtbox in the first phase so you can do max spread ex damage.
I find Roundabout and Converge to be good as well. Since technically after the first phase, both is his eyes count as targets. Meaning you can get double the damage if you shoot through both of them with converge.
It's truly wonderful how many people have differing opinions on what bosses were the easiest to hardest to S Rank. One might struggle profusely with The Devil (me) and could easily S Rank Hilda Berg (also me).
In my opinion, Converge is the best secondary weapon to use especially in the third phase because it absolutely SHREDS the Henchmen and the blue demons.
I'd take Whetstone as well, as in phase 1 if u parry the purple demons u can hit him with a spread ex, as well as its usefull to parry hin in the other phases, as his hit box is big
Ah that's true about doing Whetstone parries during at least phase 2 and 3. With that, it still feels a biiittt speed-runny and unnecessary though if you know what I mean; like the goal is not exactly to beat The Devil as fast as possible, but to S Rank him by any means. The guides I make are mainly for people that are struggling in any way S Ranking that boss, so of course I recommend the loadout that will give them the best chances and opportunities to S Rank the boss. While I definitely see now Whetstones use in the fight, it still feels a bit unnecessary to complicate all your buttons presses, especially when you have something like Heart Ring at your disposal that keeps you in the fight for longer and objectively gives you a higher chance of achieving that S Rank, unlike Whetstone which is solely for dealing damage (although you could argue that dealing more damage means you're getting past the boss faster, at the very least it's not as safe as literally having 2 extra HP using Heart Ring since you HAVE to get 3 parries anyways for the S Rank). If you don't have Heart Ring, then I could see with someone going with Whetstone instead. I appreciate the comment!
I've been struggling to beat this boss normally, and now that I think about it, I think it's because I'm addicted to smoke bomb. It's really not that useful here. And then I tried divine relic, which is somehow worse. Trying to balance supers with what weapon you're using is jtoo much for my smooth brain. I'm gonna try again with heart ring, spread, and lobber and see how it goes.
Hey, it worked! With heart ring, I not only made it to the third phase on my first try, but beat the devil within 10 tries. granted, I didn't S rank him, or even A+ him, I had 1 hp by the end of the fight. The first phase was still really hard, and even when I beat him, I think I just got a good pattern and he never used the 5 fireball attack that I can't dodge to save my life. And then phase 3 was also really hard, it was just a total clusterfrick. And I ended up using the same invincibility trick shown here to skip phase 4, because at that point, my nerves were too shot to do it legitimately.
İm just asking why are you not recommending mrs chalice if you have the dlc the double jumps help so much also the extra hp comes in clutch and if you use spiral pillar in last phase he dies
Because the majority of players will not be playing as Ms. Chalice. You don't HAVE to use the DLC to get S Ranks, however I still recommend DLC equipment if it's the most effective means of beating the boss, but still recommending other options for people that don't have the DLC. And also, Ms. Chalice can play generally the same as Cuphead and Mugman, but not the other way around, so it's much easier to learn bosses playing as Cuphead and Mugman and then playing Ms. Chalice once you have a strong understanding of the fundamentals of playing the game Cuphead.
For sure, but with how the hitboxes are for all of the phases, there really isn't a reason to use such a weapon like Crackshot. Excluding the first phase, you're ALWAYS in close contact to the active hitbox of the Devil, so weapons that work best closer up shine well here. If you want to use it as a safety measure or if you're not confident enough just yet, then honestly go ahead. But I'd advise trying to actually get good at each of his phases before attempting any actual S Rank attempts so you can bring what's best for the fight. Or you can just cheese with Crackshot and Heart Ring to have an extra 3 HP available while using Ms. Chalice's Shield Pal Super for even more protection... That works too...
I think Roundabout can be very Useful in phase 1, beacuse Roundabout have a decent damage, a good EX and he can easily kill his minions, those purple demons in the first phase.

yeah used it for that and it was really nice
lol I use chaser and roundabout
well sure but spread takes care of the demons the same if not better, and I feel as lobber is better in phase 1
I used round a bout and spread for the devil charm is chalice AND I WON
