Lol, I didn't even realize that the comment put IIII instead of IV for the 4th section. I put it as IV during that part which is correct, so if you want to correct that it's completely up to you.
One notable thing about Grim Matchstick is that a number of people find him _easier_ on expert than on normal due to the fact the clouds are going the _opposite_ direction. This, surprisingly, makes a world of difference, especially for his second and third phase since you’re moving further away from his attacks rather than into them.
Yeah, grim's one of the hardest for me on regular but the expert footage in this video looked really easy. I think it's because in the 3rd phase I have to split my attention between avoiding his attacks and actually shooting him (and chaser isn't an option because of the fireballs) and constantly change directions, while expert only has me facing one direction so I can do both at the same time more easily
A tip for anyone struggling to get parries in Moonshine Mob: Don’t worry about trying to get them in the first 3 phases at all, just try to do it as fast as possible. You then should have enough time to just wait for the snail to give you your parries as it’s super easy to dodge his projectiles
@@tem4ikfail Are you sure? They count for Heart Ring for sure, but usually attacks like that don't provide the parries for the S Rank. I'll try this and comment if it worked or not.
My favorite part about Cuphead is that it’s extremely hard yet it’s still fair, every time you die it’s your fault and you have to learn to not make the same mistake again, so it makes me happy that the game doesn’t do much to make things easier other than a simple mode, and you can’t even beat the game unless you beat every boss in regular so your pretty much forced to play in regular mode to beat the game, there are no checkpoints so if you die you have to go back to the beginning of the boss or level, and that’s a good thing because it means your not getting too much help and you’ll actually learn how to play the game rather than just being handicapped the whole time.
I 100% agree with everything you said! It's really why I think Cuphead is one of the best in its genre, and so unique too! It's a game that really anyone can play, because Cuphead offers something for everyone. I appreciate the comment!
I recently S-ranked every boss in the game and I can easily say that the ******* ice mage from the DLC was absolute the hardest one. To get all the parries in time it was required a LOT of rng, taking me many and many restarts due to it, and one thing I did to make the parry issue "easier" was stop firing on the first phase and holding it at the point where he throws his 2nd pink card. It worked for me but it was not funny at all. The worst 11 hours of my life.
@@alptugraakan7490 i got rank S on chief saltbaker with 4 attempts, in the ice mage, it took like 200 attempts And the devil, its a medium For me, that hawk in the second world is harder
I am literally HORRIBLE at this game. I don’t game often and even though I’m really bad at the game I absolutely love watching others play. It’s amazing to me that you were able to clear these bosses so easily. Honestly hats off to you! Thank you for the quality content and voicing your cuphead experience :)
Ah man I really appreciate it! I mean even after many years of playing this game, I was still hesitant to try S Ranking every boss. Without Heart Ring this would've taken more much longer but luckily most of the bosses I didn't absolutely need it. Thanks for the comment!
Imo Grim is one of the few bosses that gets easier in expert, and it’s all because you are not restricted to roundabout/chaser (and if you have the DLC crackshot) to being able to hit him consistently in phase 3. Being able to use lobber makes it so much easier to get a quick kill and (more importantly) not blow up his fire bubbles
@@yoshikid27 i personally only used roundabout for the first phase. It's weird to aim at grim in the second phase and trying to not hit the fireballs he sends out with roundabout sucks. I always used lobber for grim in the 2nd and last phase. I do agree that roundabout is always op tho
Whoever designed Mangosteen went way too far. Clearly the desinger's mother didn't hug them enough as a child so they took it out on us with such a daunting fight. Chef Saltbaker has nightmares of Mangosteen!
Wally Warbles was an absolute nightmare for me because off the eggs in the first phase splitting in 5 instead of 3, and the baby bird chains cutting off all the appropriate space needed to dodge the eggs. I don't even know how I got passed that bird house from hell.
Wally Warbles, Dr. Kahl's Robot, Hilda Berg, I've noticed a pattern. It's literally every aerial fight that feels/is unfair when S ranking. Players are just so restricted in air fights, especially without smoke dash. The next best charm for me was Twin Hearts, and that didn't help all the time because while my survivability increased, my damage-output got drunk and went home.@@InvaderBB
@@KayzIdeasI used twin heart a lot to last longer in fights, even if it takes forever (especially first time against King Dice). However, when you're S-ranking, heart ring is better for the extra HP (if the boss is kinda cheap with the parreable stuff, the crackshot EX is pretty useful) :3
@@mikeblackmetal Twin heart was honestly a must-have in S-ranking for me. The only reason I didn't use the HP ring is because I did my S-ranking spree *before* I bought the DLC lol.
@@KayzIdeas Hehe, I see. Anyway, twin heart is still good when the parreable objects are inconsistent (for example, against Hilda or Mortimer) :3 And I would say, for the most Run 'n' Gun is a must have.
I think a fair point about the perceived difficulty of the bosses, is that they were also first experienced without the crackshot. Which in my own opinion actually makes a lot of the bosses from the base game A LOT easier. And there also wasn't heart ring back then... I remember using ages to s-rank the bosses before the dlc
Definitely true, which is EXACTLY why I decided to make an "up to date" tier list to take those into account, ESPECIALLY with Heart Ring in the picture now. I appreciate the comment!
I love the ending comment from this one youtuber who ranked the bosses from worst to best normally, and he asked "On a scale of yes to very, how busted is the crackshot?" And it was hilarious
I appreciate it! Sadly it's not aaaassss fair as I would want it, but I was already taking like a month to finish the video so had to finalize it at some point. I still think everyone is generally where they should be, but getting their exact or close enough placement is extremely difficult 👍.
Firstly, great video. Secondly, glad the public is finally realizing just how much of a nightmare Wally is. And thirdly, in my personal opinion, I’d put Rumor in Tests Your Meddle. For me the main reason I hate her so much is because I could never truly find a great weapon kit to fight her, seeing as both she and the stage move around so much. But overall good rankings!
Thanks for the kind words! The thing with Rumor is that time is like NEVER a problem, so before DLC you really could just use Chaser and like Spread for her 2nd phase and it would be fine. Now I'd replace Chaser with Crackshot tbh because you get more versatility that way and also the EX is much better. So the weapon kit I would use against Rumor is just Crackshot/Chaser and Spread. Maybe there is a better weapon combo, but that's what has worked for me 👍.
@@MrKap I personally use charge and chaser. Charge blasts through the first two phases, while not requiring me to get too close, which with the rng platforms is nice. Chaser I find deals damage more consistently than crackshot. I can get 1:30 times consistently with this. Spread and crackshot seems like a really good combination too, but this one suits me more.
@Information Not Available I also used lobber. Rumor Honey bottoms is one of the few bosses where lobber works really well in compared to other weapons. And I'd also say the best weapon combo for rumor would be lobber and crackshot
I S-ranked every boss in the game recently and I would say this ranking and descriptions are pretty close to my experience. In fact, any boss is difficult during the first encounter. But spent some time and they will be miraculously easier with every run. The bosses from the top tiers are the ones that require complex tactics and muscle memory, which can only be achieved with practice and patience. From the very beginning, Saltbaker seemed like a nightmare to me, but after spending an hour on him, I literally trained to dodge things: I got to know where better to do a single/double jump, where to roll, how to parry this damn sugar, etc. (I would recommend Ms. Chalice with II Super for this fight). Train yourself to get past the first two phases with 1 or 2 hits, and the remaining two are quite simple. In this respect, Wally Warbles, Esther Winchester and Hilda Berg were equally the hardest bosses of the game for me to S-rank, as ALL of their phases are pretty hard and require maximum concentration and training. The Robot is certainly hard too, but look for good tactics against him and he will be quite simple, probably the easiest plane boss to S-rank. Also, I want to mention 1 more tip for those who are struggling with the plane fights, as they are the hardest: get the damn Divine Relic and learn to use it. It is really a blessing for the plane bosses (and also P-ranking Run and Gun levels). The weapon swap is controllable and the benefits it gives you outmatch everything. Cheers!
Wow... You explained so well and so accurately what I was basing the tier list off of that even I didn't know how to articulate it and you did it perfectly, and it's scary 💀. I'm straight up just going to reference this comment whenever someone asks me ever how I ranked this tier list. What a great comment! Edit: I went back to read this comment and still I'm amazed by it. This is probably the best comment I've ever seen on one of my videos, like really. I'm definitely gonna pin this lol :)
@@MrKap haha, thank you! I just needed to express my thoughts after completing everything in the game, and your vid is definitely the best place, because it is so well done and so close to my experience during those fights.
I just managed to S rank Hilda Berg yesterday, it was absolutely dreadful. But for some reason, after 5 minutes, I managed to get used to the first and second phase. But now it's just a matter of trying to dodge the cheap movement of the eggs and then the final phase. But the weirdest thing about my attempt to S rank all the bosses is that I ACCIDENTALLY got an S rank on the devil boss, and I find king dice to be one of the easiest. I'm extremely glad I used the P-sugar charm otherwise I'd probably still be trying to S rank the devil boss.
@@MrKap I agreee, DOWN WITH CALA MARIAS SEAHORSE! I know a secret to beat him, Shrink your ship. And spin around and the horse will be out of your hair. And thanks for the tip. Now I beat Captain Brineybeard without any probelom.
Something I picked up on Cala Maria is that during the second phase you could avoid her petrification entirely just by chilling over her head and it's easy to avoid the eels attacks with the mini.
The irony is that when trying to beat the game on regular mode, Grim Matchstick was so infuriating it nearly made me quit the game. But it was one of the easiest to S-rank with a similar set-up to yours. Mainly because I didn’t have to worry about the time requirement. So as someone who thought Grim Matchstick was infuriating the first time around, I totally agree with Grim Matchstick being light work.
So true. Grim Matchstick when you first play Cuphead is usually a NIGHTMARE for people, including myself, but once you understand how to play the game Grim Matchstick is super easy compared to other bosses. That's honestly why when I ranked him where I did on the tier list, people were like "Oh no he's definitely harder than that". Where I ranked him in the video was me being pretty generous and unbiased with what the difficulties of the boss were and how you could overcome them. With everything considered, I thought where I put was a pretty decent spot and could be lower honestly. I personally think he's light work, but to generalize the difficulty, I put him where he stands in the tier list. Thanks for the comment!
@@MrKap Honestly though, it seems like a big part of that is how the platforms move in more favorable directions on Expert. I don't think that was playtested lol
I KNOW RIGHT?!?! Like I literally spent less than 3 minutes just seeing what they did since I haven't played against the Tipsy Troop for a HOT minute, and I now I never take a hit on the Tipsy Troop lol. Really appreciate the comment, mainly because you're speaking fax ha
@@UglyPotato34 Surprisingly yes. I guess a lot of people can't, like, multitask or prepare for multiple moves threatening them even though that's kind of this whole game? lol
Best cuphead boss ranking tier list in my opinion, really fair and has good explanations on why the bosses are ranked where they are. Honestly i think Cuphead's all about choosing the right weapon kit and having good reflexes to dodge whatever attacks come at you.
100% true! Thank you for the kind words first off! But yeah Cuphead it's really about having the right loadout. A lot of people sleep on the loadout choice, especially when you're newer at the game, but you learn after a while how incredibly important this is. That is exactly why I'm gonna try to start an S Ranking Guide for some bosses, with the first video coming out in like 20 minutes lol.
For Captain Brineybeard's final phase, you can parry off of the laser the tongue shoots out. You'll have to time it right, but with the Heart Ring it can recover all health back. (You get 5 or 6 parries from the laser)
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who did not understand Nathaniel Bandy's tierlist at all. This is a much better and fair tierlist that I've seen. Nice job displaying both your and the communities opinions on these.
I appreciate it! I tried being as reasonable as possible and my opinions/experiences are always changing, but overall I think this tier list isn't very far off from a great tier list! Some slight movements here and there, but overall for the time this tier list isn't bad 👍
I found most of the bosses fairly easy to beat BUT king dice absolutely destroyed me, he’s the one boss that genuinely made me feel like smashing my monitor
I can admit now after reviewing and playing against him that he is more troubling that I led on in the video. I still think the King Dice boss fight is not too difficult if you pick your bosses correctly and learn them, and since people have been constantly saying Dr Kahl's Robot is easy once you know how to beat them, I think my statement is fair. Go against Chips Bettigan or Tipsy Troop, then Phear Lap, then Mangosteen, then King Dice. Chips Bettigan can be a bit tricky to go through the gaps, so sometimes I genuinely prefer going against Tipsy Troop because I think they're easy to beat, Phear Lap is not very hard, just dash whenever the ghost rider is about to go upwards so it doesn't hit you and the rest is not very difficult, and Mangosteen is literally the easiest boss in the game. With King Dice it really is just getting good at the parry timing. The farthest I would readjust King Dice to is the beginning of the Not Too Hard tier for me.
I think it's so silly you like those - I use Chips, Pip&Dot, and Mangosteen or Mr. Chimes (without S-ranking him). My charm is Ms. Chalice or Smoke Bomb and my weapons are Crackshot and Converge (Yes, I have the DLC. Without, I would likely do Chaser and Roundabout)
Mortimer Freeze is an underrated challenge. His first phase is the hardest in his fight just because I can’t figure out those little icicle guys, and the parries are annoying to get while S-ranking.
The icicle guys work by popping out of the ground from damage instead of being destroyed. It's ridiculously unintuitive. I'm going into more detail on that soon, but I was definitely confused by them at first. If you want any tips, ignore them until they pop out then shoot them.
@@MrKapdang is it bad that I thought Mortimer freeze was very easy for me? Crazy how much people’s rankings could change! Nice list btw. Wally warbles was the worst for me 😭
Yeah I remember when I was going through my S Rank run, Mortimer Freeze surprised me and probably put me through the absolute worst hell out of any of them, except maybe Saltbaker who I haven't beaten yet but shrug. Regardless, I had a lot of trouble just trying to deal with that dude's parries and dodging, especially in phase 2, considering how fast that Snow Golem moves, giving me little time to actually figure out if he'd roll or jump, on top of everything else going on. And, yeah, parries were unreliable across the whole fight and didn't make the already hard challenge even harder. When I finally beat him I was ready to never see that stupid cultist another day in my life. Definitely the biggest surprise out of any of the bosses.
Im glad someone finally agrees that captain is easy! Even on my first playthrough I found his attacks easy to learn and hes honestly one of the most fun bosses for me
I haven’t been playing cuphead for very long, but I’ve almost beaten the game. I’m not joking when I say Brineybeard took me two weeks to beat. I found him so hard and I don’t know why, buts he’s a pirate and I love pirates so all is forgiven.
Brineybeard is a fun designed boss, and I love how more things are added as the fight goes on and the mechanics of the fight are expanded upon, and how you fight the freaking uvula of the ship. But MAN do chalice and heart ring make him way easier. Especially since you can farm hearts with the ring on the laser.
The Esther Winchester dancing part you put in was hilarious!!!! I finally S Ranked her earlier this week!!! Took me sooooo many tries! I had to put the video on my channel, I was just trying to eventually beat her on expert because that was my last expert boss for a 300%. When I did it I was so excited and couldnt stop cussing in delight 😂
For dr. Kahl go for the laser thing first since the gears he shoots aren't annoying, you can also skip second phase by saving your super and positioning yourself in front of his head during phase transition and blow him up :).
Here’s a trick I learned that made it defeating Wally warbles last Phase risky but easy once you know how work around it. When there’s the open between you and the first blue bird. If you go all the way down and shoot the bottom part of the nursing hammock. That actually counts as you damaging the boss. The only time you’ll have to be careful is when the space closes up and your up to damaging the boss from Above while dodging everything coming at you.
I feel very blessed that I don’t struggle with Chef Saltbaker. I just beat him a bunch of times on regular mode until I got familiar to his attacks. And when I tried to do Expert mode, it was a breeze. I got S rank accidentally.
MrKap the type of guy to beat Mike Tyson to a pulp with little trouble and explain his strategy with "It's very easy, because it is simple" and then get beat up by a preeschooler right after
When I first fought Esther, I was scared. After fighting her, she’s so much fun! I didn’t get frustrated like other plane fights. Fun to fight and watch in action! I’m actually looking forward to fighting her on expert. And the music is godly!!
x2! It’s hard to ragequit from this boss, because it’s so much fun! Even though it may have taken up to 100 tries, you are constantly coming back for more, and it’s STILL fun, and that’s why it’s my favorite boss from the entire game! (Replayibility and the overall aesthetic of it)
This is one of the most accurate cuphead tier lists I ever seen. I agree with almost all picks. I personally found Wally warbles the hardest to S rank but Chef Saltbaker is a tight number 2 spot.
Damn man thanks so much! I can definitely see how Wally Warbles could be the hardest boss to S Rank. The top 3 were all so hard and annoying to S Rank so picking the hardest was definitely a hard task to pull off. Thanks for your comment!
@@MrKap Thank you! Cuphead was a fun adventure to S rank because it would be over and one of the greatest video game accomplishments of my life once I finally do it. And after doing it, I can definitely relate to this one more than justoallday (*cough* *cough* he said dr kahl is easy.) or any other tier list. And finally someone who said rumor honeybottoms is not that hard!
I accidentally S Ranked Howling Aces through the secret phase. Wasn't even trying to activate it. I even said "alright we ain't doing the special phase this time", since I accidentally activated it once before this. And then I accidentally did the special phase. And won. Was an extremely funny experience. 300%-ing the game was a real pleasure.
Just bought the DLC 2 days ago and restarted the whole game including the DLC. Literally the best game I have ever played, the music, animations, nostalgic feeling. Bes
I have a very strong ‘no homing weapons’ rule that I apply to myself. And let me say that when you’re required to aim as well, a lot of the bosses go up a notch in difficulty. For the moonshine mob, you are pretty much unable to kill any of the fly-ball thingys in the anteater phase, for the howling aces last phase it becomes so much more difficult because now you have to manage the screen flipping, dodging the projectiles and dealing enough damage in the time limit, and don’t even get me started on saltbaker. There are even more examples but if I named them all this comment would go on forever.
Trying my hand at S ranking these bosses. Not using any DLC before Isle 4 though because I wanted to do it old-school and without Smoke Dash. And I'm... extremely surprised to see Mangosteen not in the lowest tier.
I see you didn't watch all the way through the video 😂. All good man, but spoiler alert he is in the tier lower than the supposed "lowest tier". By far the easiest boss in the game outright.
Also, respect for going for the now extra hard version of S Ranking each boss with no Heart Ring OR Smoke Bomb. I used to ALWAYS use Smoke Bomb cuz ya know... Smoke Bomb, but now having not used it for so long, I almost prefer NOT using it surprisingly lol. I appreciate the comment!
I’ll be honest for a moment, when I first saw this video, and checked MrKap’s subscriber count a considerable amount of time after the fact, I was surprised at how low it was, because to me at least, this comes off as the type of content you would get from a channel with WAY more subscribers. This is a great video on the whole, and I’m eager to see what’s coming in the future.
Fun fact: when I beat salt baker on expert for the first time I accidentally got the S rank. It’s quiet hilarious how that happened even tho I wasn’t even going for the S.
14:22 thank you for mentioning this tip because i don't think many people know this I don't see many UA-camrs mention this tip I think Nathaniel Bandy should take a word of advice here
honestly, id say most of the list is pretty fair though personally'd put Cala just under Devil or above Grim cause it can be a bit of a bullet hell in the second phase even if you get somewhat lucky in phase 1 but that's just personal experience, even the controversial Grim seems fair cause I think most people find expert easier cause the clouds going in the opposite direction make phase 2 and 3 sooo much easier, it's just a nuisance getting all three parries, also fuck Salt baker, he's the only boss so far I've yet to s rank, the others after a few tried and rng but that guy? Almost feels impossible sometimes even if I have the ring equipped or ms chalice, I've lost count of how many times I've retired him, still very fair list and great video
I just wanted to say thanks for your comment before continuing! Now you make a lot of good points about Grim and also Cala. Cala Maria was a bit tricky to rank which I mentioned in the video. It really does depend on how well you do overall so she can jump around a bit when it comes to placement in the tier. Grim its really just the parries that are sooo annoying, but just straight up beating him is easy as hell, with or without his cloud movement changes (which I actually didn't notice somehow 🤣). Now Saltbaker just sucks man! Expert mode definitely amps up his difficulty tenfold. There's just something about Saltbaker that makes me fold every single time I fight him lol. I can get far without taking any hits, and then my brain just turns off ha. I really appreciate the comment!
Thanks man! I know there are some rough spots still but I think I overall did well for my first time editing. Wasn't looking for anything fancy, but I did want to make it educational and entertaining, so hopefully I achieved some of that. Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it!
As the list goes on you can tell the bosses that most find hard are easy in this list solely because of the parry ring. If you want them to be easy, aka honey bottoms, ghost express, and others. Use parry ring, if not, they become so much harder
Awesome!!! The Grimace Shake is a berry-flavored milkshake sold at McDonald's restaurants in the United States during June 2023. It was released as part of the Grimace Birthday Meal promotion which celebrated the character Grimace's 52nd birthday.
Personally, I think Djimmi is hard SOLELY because of the time requirements, it took me multiple days because I was taking too long. I eventually won but still took a while. I remember when I S-ranked Glumstone, it was the day the DLC released, I was angry and confused, on normal, because I couldn’t get his attacks, but I eventually beat him on S-rank the same day.
One of my favorite things about cuphead is the wild subjectivity the game’s difficulty is subject to. Literally EVERYONE has a boss they struggle on that most others find easy. For me, Mortimer Freeze is by and large one of my better fights, while I simultaneously cannot wrap my head around that stupid Glumstone the Giant fight.
Times were tough before crack shot came in. Charge shot was the main weapon I used to s rank all main game bosses. Also heart ring makes s rank soooo much easier. DLC was great but both the weapon and charm could use small nerf to not make it so powerful
I don’t see many people bring this up, 8-Ball is in fact a reference to a boss in Gunstar Heroes, Melon Bread. Who’s also extremely easy and looks similar to 8-Ball.
OH YEEAAAAH! I totally know what you're talking about! Man, I never made that connection till now, and I even watched a video where one of the developers mentioned it was a reference. Thanks for letting us all know man! :)
Lol. It's crazy the number of characters in the game that actually have a name, or at least a given name by the community. It gets you more involved in the community knowing names of, well, no-names!
Mrkap, when I first heard your opinion on grim matchstick a while ago, I STRONGLY disagreed. But now, today, I was trying to get S ranks for my save file, and I came to grim matchstick. I kid you not I first tried him as well, don’t disagree with this man on grim matchstick.
Getting a S-rank on the chef was the worst and most difficult thing in my entire life. The first phase was an absolute mess and even if you passed it it was guaranteed that you’ll lose a life on the next one.. hell na bad memories, it took like 3 hours for me
btw Mr.Kap, I did want to point out that while parry ring is still a really great charm, the one downside to it is that parrys won't give you cards (for EX moves and supers) anymore, meaning that you'll have to make up for the extra health with faster clear time. This isn't a deal-breaker for the charm by any means, but it's still important to know, especially because the game doesn't tell you about it for some reason. (& as someone who's also S-ranked everything on expert mode I agree with your tier list A LOT and I definitely find it the best one of out all the ones I've seen. I basically agree with everything & The only seldom disagreements I have with it are really just minor nitpicks from my personal experience.)
I wonder why the game doesn't tell you that you can't get EX cards while using Heart Ring. Even so, it's really not a big deal at all since you'll always get enough cards to get the bonus, no matter the boss, so it's more up to the player to use them. It can make some bosses take a bit longer, but not really at the same time XD. I'm glad you found the tier list to be fair! It's surprisingly difficult to make these tier lists because there will always be things that you might struggle with that others find incredibly easy (EX; People find Dr. Kahl's Robot super easy, while I find his last phase to be hard to pass while retaining all the bonuses for the S Rank). Since I'm a very seasoned player at Cuphead, I figured it was best to add my own input/reasonings on why a boss was either difficult, or easier than people think it is. It's also why I've created S Rank Guides for some bosses that people think are difficult, but in reality can be mastered quite easily. I really appreciate the comment!
Now I'll be 100 with you chief, when I first played this game? It took me like close to 1 and a half hours to beat Grim, but that was mainly because I was a scrub not using Lobber and just generally being bad. Nonetheless, people are still crying about Grim even after beating the game and having much more experience! People just need to play Grim again to see how easy he is. Thanks for the comment man!
23:53 This phase actually kicked my ass for a long time until i found out exactly at what point the fire things decide to jump at you, and that when they decide to jump they're actually aiming at the spot you're in _at that time_ Before that it felt completely fucking random where they were going and what arc they were taking
An interesting thing is few of those bosses didn't wanted to fight, Grim Mashstick was too kind. The other were eager to get in a fight, even if their contracts would be taken from them.
you're the main reason that made me buy cuphead and play the whole game and got all S rank AND I AM TELLING YOU IT WAS A LIVING HELL I don't know why the DLC was way harder it was the chef that took me a whole week on expert just to beat 😭
Right now I'm doing my own journey of S ranking myself. And I can see why this list is what it is. My personal hardest for me was a lot of the plane levels. Wally, Hilda and Esther. Then there's Ribby and Croaks and Mortimer. Thanks for some of the tips for them. Hopefully soon I can finally fully S rank the game (most likely not cause Saltbaker S Rank makes me wanna cry)
I just downloaded the game two days ago and been having a blast at it! so far the bosses haven't felt too bad, which to be fair I am only at the bee boss, but it has been very enjoyable.
Surprisingly, for me, the Inkwell isle 1 bosses (besides the root pack) are pretty hard for me to S rank. But I’ve S ranked Cala Maria and Captain Brineybeard
Ribby and Croaks can be quite tricky at first, but if you take your time to learn each phase they become much easier from that point forward. Hilda Berg kind of falls into the some boat, and Cagney just has a lot of things that try to get you all at once, and with the surprisingly little amount of space, makes dodging hits a bit harder than usual. Thanks for commenting!
Honestly, the pyro team fortress trailer fits Salt chefbaker PERFECTLY!!! I even struggle to beat him perfectly on SIMPLE MODE!!! It's just crazy that the fight gets easier instead of harder. He will give you PLENTY of salt during the fight, if you sadly know what I mean.
Oh my gosh, him on Expert is actually almost impossible, even though I can consistently beat him on Normal now. Every other boss is trivial compared to him. It's absolute insanity!
I’ve always found Dr kahls robot to be one of the easiest to S rank but I do understand why most players have a lot of difficulty getting it or even beating him on expert.
Like I mentioned in the video, once you get good at him and know tricks to fight against him, it becomes muuuuuch easier. You could say the same thing with Phantom Express on what shots you bring, like bringing Converge and Crackshot are very good against Phantom Express. Also his Bullet Hell Phase is just all about skill and replaying it over and over again until you get really good at it imo, which of course means spending a lot of time on it and that would then translate to it being a harder boss. With everything considered, people aren't gonna know how to efficiently/effectively beat Dr Kahls Robot, thus the high ranking. Thanks for the comment!
28:16 tips, go up to lazar first, then ships, then middle (gets parrys for heart ring or whatever) use super bomb on heart, then spam super bombs and parrys in last phase, repeat until beaten
I remember when i first saw this video, I wasn’t far enough in the dlc to fight the chef. Remembering you saying about how he was a pain in the arse to beat I kept that in mind and my goodness you were right I took a long time to beat him even on regular mode😂.
Only after watching this did I realize how weird NB’s list is. I feel like Cuphead gives each player a different experience somehow. I found Sally to be very hard, especially since I was doing secret phase. That or I’m bad at Cuphead.
Idk the bosses names but most bosses excluding the bee I beat wit relative ease (a few attempts) But that sunflower took me days idk why I can do it no trouble now but it pained me.
Yeah Mugman needs some love. Always playing Cuphead since he's the character you start using right away made me want to switch it up a bit, so I did this whole challenge as Mugman lol. Thanks for your comment and kind words!
I mean that's why tier lists exist I feel. It's just for fun and to start a discussion to explain our viewpoints and learn stuff on the way. I've learned A LOT of tricks or just fun facts that I didn't know from the comments section of this video. In the end I feel I achieved the objective of the video, but it really is subjective what is hard and what is not. The amount of people that have said Dr Kahl's Robot is LIGHTWORK to S Rank has really bamboozled me tbh lol. Last phase is an absolutely nightmare to not take a hit on, so for that reason solely he feels at least mid difficulty, but I think hard since really all the other bosses before him have tricks to beat them or just have less complicated attacks to deal with.
Hey, someone with every S rank and achievement in the game, I already thought Cap'n Brineybeard was one of the easiest bosses in the game, but the fact that you can dash to avoid the barrel during the laser makes him so piss easy. I thought that was to punish people who didn't plan ahead but now it's just litterally free
I haven't played the DLC yet and that damn bird was the only boss that I couldn't get S Rank in the whole game. I thought I was bad at flying levels and this is probably why I couldn't beat but this video made me relieved and its good to know that I wasn't the only one hates that fking bird.
personally, I would move saltbaker down to not that bad, but that is a bit bias because well most people did not S Rank him first try (i did do it on my first try and that was my greatest, or one of, cuphead achievement)
You're built different man 😂. S Ranking Saltbaker takes a lot of consistent skill and coordination so I'm quite surprised you did it first try lol. Either way, I feel that the majority of people would have a lot of trouble on Saltbaker, thus I ranked it so high. Thanks for the comment!
Honestly, there is waayyyy too much BS that happens during all of Wally's phases for him NOT to be in the highest tier. I encourage you to try to S Rank him again, because holy if you can deal with everything AND get the S Rank, especially without Heart Ring? I mean mad respect for you then. Thanks for commenting!
@@MrKap for me the last phase is what I had the most trouble with. His first phase is simple if you know where to stay. His second phase is just moving up and down. The third phase has a certain technique that I can't really explain here as it would take too long. The last phase is hard but it has a certain pattern. But Mortimer Freeze? Naw screw him, bastard took all my mental sanity to beat
@@bda529 Ha, at least we agree on Mortimer Freeze lol. Second phase of Wally is easy, Third Phase is tricky and takes time to get good at for me, and last phase definitely sucks. First phase is still very tricky for me, so I'm quite surprised you had such an easy time with it, mad respect 👌
As someone who spent hours s ranking everything, the final fight with the chef in the dlc absolutely took me the longest, every other boss was pretty chill n easy. With like the exception of robot scientist guy and the mermaid lady fr
Okay the bird one I found out a long time ago the feather spam actually has a pattern, it has made the fight so much easier for me after studying and learning it
i'm sorry i think heart ring makes it so much more dull with the ease, as someone who s-ranked the game twice within the year i had the game before the dlc came out. that being said, it adds another element of fun for the dlc bosses, but takes away a lot of the challenge and fun for base game bosses imo. same goes with crackshot honestly, but man that thing is fun to use haha. my favorite will always be roundabout tho muehehe. i love the updated tier list taking these into account, and thanks for not abusing chalice i feel like that's super lame for like half the bosses lmao. this video was so fun to watch! :)
Yep. If you aren't only using Chaser with like Twin Hearts like Nathaniel Bandy did, then especially Mangosteen is extremely easy to beat. Thanks for the comment!

One notable thing about Grim Matchstick is that a number of people find him _easier_ on expert than on normal due to the fact the clouds are going the _opposite_ direction. This, surprisingly, makes a world of difference, especially for his second and third phase since you’re moving further away from his attacks rather than into them.
I think the hardest part of grim matchstick is definitely trying to get the parries since they only appear in the first phase
It's a lot easier on expert. Or i just got better during the time I beat the game and came back to him
Yeah on expert hes a cakewalk.
@@JJGB2077 but they are easy to get (sorry but i'm very good at parrying)
That's true. Good advice!
Or you can parry his tongue 3 times in a row. For some reason, those count towards S ranking.
@@tem4ikfail Are you sure? They count for Heart Ring for sure, but usually attacks like that don't provide the parries for the S Rank. I'll try this and comment if it worked or not.
@@tem4ikfail Holy crap they do count! Why? Well that makes the parries much easier!
@@MrKap Wait what? This changes everything!

People use roundabout and chaser for grim?
@@Cinnamontoastcoughdrop Roundabout is always Op but chaser just attacks the little bubbles so I don't see that.

Wally Warbles was an absolute nightmare for me because off the eggs in the first phase splitting in 5 instead of 3, and the baby bird chains cutting off all the appropriate space needed to dodge the eggs. I don't even know how I got passed that bird house from hell.
Bro both him and Dr Kahl took some years off my life/hj
Anyway, twin heart is still good when the parreable objects are inconsistent (for example, against Hilda or Mortimer) :3
And I would say, for the most Run 'n' Gun is a must have.

Dude just use crackshot٫ it makes phase 3 a cake-walk
I used lobbed with ease.
The Devine relic is in the DlC, and I doubt everyone has the money for that. Wasn’t it like 30-40 bucks?

I 100% agree. The small ice guys are quite weird tbh and the parries are extremely annoying to get.
@@MrKap mortimer freeze was my luckiest s rank cuz it was an accident, but im not complaining

Tbh I think either Wally Warbles, King Dice, Or Dr. Kahls Robot is the hardest to S rank
Captain Brineybeard is a joke if you use Miss Chalice
Of all the Cuphead bosses to use a Meet the Pyro meme on, Saltbaker is just as fitting as Pyro himself.
I got S rank accidentally.

x2! It’s hard to ragequit from this boss, because it’s so much fun! Even though it may have taken up to 100 tries, you are constantly coming back for more, and it’s STILL fun, and that’s why it’s my favorite boss from the entire game! (Replayibility and the overall aesthetic of it)

I highly suggest S-Ranking all bosses with only Peashooter and Coffee, it’s very satisfying.

Good job on one of your first video's.
I was about to quit watching on that 8-ball section you did hahaha you got me good!
Keep growing!
I appreciate it man!
King Dice weapon tip: Twist Up is by far the easiest weapon to use on nearly all of his mini bosses, and on King Dice himself. Extremely underrated.
I'll try it!
Dude why does this guy not have more likes and subscribers
Man dude I'm blushing! I'm surprised I even got this many views because I made literally just cuz I could ha. I really appreciate the comment!
For real
Awesome!!!
The Grimace Shake is a berry-flavored milkshake sold at McDonald's restaurants in the United States during June 2023. It was released as part of the Grimace Birthday Meal promotion which celebrated the character Grimace's 52nd birthday.
Congratulations on getting 1M views on your very first Cuphead video. Keep it up! 👍
Djimmi's time requirement is really difficult, but after that it is definitely feasible to S rank Djimmi, and easily too after some time.
Lol very true comment!
and the one boss that everyone struggles with is dr kahls robot
@@CoolCow5628 I’m pretty confident in that fight! I cannot S-Rank Wally Warbles However
In the Hilda berg fight, if you draw out the 1st phase so that she sends out the purple enemy a 2nd time, it shoots a free parry shot
Times were tough before crack shot came in. Charge shot was the main weapon I used to s rank all main game bosses. Also heart ring makes s rank soooo much easier. DLC was great but both the weapon and charm could use small nerf to not make it so powerful
Bro you deserve like 100k subs AT LEAST
Man you're making me smile 😁. I appreciate the comment and love ✌️
The channel needs some goddamn respect
Bro thanks for the love and comment man! 😁👍
Fr, I decree this channel get to 100k minimum😂
I don’t see many people bring this up, 8-Ball is in fact a reference to a boss in Gunstar Heroes, Melon Bread. Who’s also extremely easy and looks similar to 8-Ball.
OH YEEAAAAH! I totally know what you're talking about! Man, I never made that connection till now, and I even watched a video where one of the developers mentioned it was a reference. Thanks for letting us all know man! :)
First time viewer, the bo2 reference was perfect love this
Most amazing thing here is you know exactly the names of even the mini bosses for Baroness. Good stuff!
Lol. It's crazy the number of characters in the game that actually have a name, or at least a given name by the community. It gets you more involved in the community knowing names of, well, no-names!
How the fuck do you only have 1.5k subs? You are literally one of the best. So funny and correct
I really appreciate it! Especially considering some of the negative comments lol
I knew that you were missing mangosteen and that it was the hardest boss
Ha, really wanted to throw people off and wanted to make some janky but funny edits. Thanks for the comment!
I know I was counting to see if all the bosses were there and I was missing one so I rewatch the video again and see that mangosteen is missing
Bro You Need More Subs.👍
I appreciate it man! Really!
The first phase was an absolute mess and even if you passed it it was guaranteed that you’ll lose a life on the next one.. hell na bad memories, it took like 3 hours for me
Totally agree with Hilda Berg, she's such a pain, especially if you're new to the game
btw Mr.Kap, I did want to point out that while parry ring is still a really great charm, the one downside to it is that parrys won't give you cards (for EX moves and supers) anymore, meaning that you'll have to make up for the extra health with faster clear time.
FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT Grim Is Not That Hard In My Playthrough It Only Took Like 15 Attempts
They could be worse.
sadly it took be 8 months
23:53
This phase actually kicked my ass for a long time until i found out exactly at what point the fire things decide to jump at you, and that when they decide to jump they're actually aiming at the spot you're in _at that time_
Before that it felt completely fucking random where they were going and what arc they were taking
An interesting thing is few of those bosses didn't wanted to fight, Grim Mashstick was too kind.
The other were eager to get in a fight, even if their contracts would be taken from them.
I’d like to see you make a Chalice tier list for Expert. Which bosses does she do better and worse against?
This video has inspired me to finally beat every boss on expert like I’ve been putting off for so long.
lesssgoo
For King Dice you can stand behind his hand and it’s a safe spot. This would make the fight last longer but it would be very easy.
I thought that was patched out or you weren't able to do that anymore? I'll try that soon for sure. Thanks for the comment!
@@MrKap I haven’t played in a long time so I don’t know if it has been patched or not. Either way good luck bro!
@DarkCoreX It actually speeds the fight up if you are using converge.
Keep doing what ur doing! ( I love your vids❤ )
Thanks man!
you're the main reason that made me buy cuphead and play the whole game and got all S rank AND I AM TELLING YOU IT WAS A LIVING HELL I don't know why the DLC was way harder it was the chef that took me a whole week on expert just to beat 😭
0:38 bro accidentally made a Cuphead trailer💀💀💀
This guys too underrated, he has good content.
Damn man, thanks!
@@MrKap :)
Agreed lmao
@@MrKap You should do a list of best to worst cuphead bosses
Right now I'm doing my own journey of S ranking myself. And I can see why this list is what it is.
My personal hardest for me was a lot of the plane levels. Wally, Hilda and Esther. Then there's Ribby and Croaks and Mortimer.
Thanks for some of the tips for them. Hopefully soon I can finally fully S rank the game (most likely not cause Saltbaker S Rank makes me wanna cry)
I am driving from Oregon to Washington while watching this. I have never seen cup head before, but i like how long the video is.
I'm glad 8-ball was put where he was. The ranking that Nathaniel Bandy gave Mangosteen made me feel like I was going crazy
I just downloaded the game two days ago and been having a blast at it! so far the bosses haven't felt too bad, which to be fair I am only at the bee boss, but it has been very enjoyable.
I'm glad you enjoy Cuphead!
@@MrKap and goopy? He don't mention that goopy is easy to s rank. Don't understimate goopy le grande b¡tch!
i s ranked every boss in the game and got 300 pecent but a great video and i respect your tier list and your opinion
I really appreciate the wholesome and respectful comment! I don't get many of those now tbh lol.
24:23 haha, yeah. [as I used crackshot not knowing it’s gonna keep making the fireballs split]
Thanks for the comment!
he was one of the longest bosses it took me to beat on normal on my first playthrough
If you play touhou Dr Kahl would prolly be easy, but i dont play touhou...
The fact that people think captin brineybeard is hard. LIKE IT'S SO EZ YOU SHOULD JUST PUT IT IN LIGHT WORK! I got the S rank second try
I FINALLY met someone who agrees with me and says grim is easy, I S-ranked him in like 10 minutes
@CreeperXRP3 One word: Lobber
@Indigo132 If you don’t hit the fireballs and use supers during the flamethrower attack it really isn’t that bad
@Indigo132 another word: charge
Idk the bosses names but most bosses excluding the bee I beat wit relative ease (a few attempts)
But that sunflower took me days idk why I can do it no trouble now but it pained me.
He's a talented youtuber but he had some really bad takes in that video.
@@ZA-en4bbthat’s very true. I’ve been subscribed to his channel for a few years now, and normally his content doesn’t disappoint
Finally mugman gets some respect..
Also great video.
Ikr
Yeah Mugman needs some love. Always playing Cuphead since he's the character you start using right away made me want to switch it up a bit, so I did this whole challenge as Mugman lol. Thanks for your comment and kind words!
@@MrKap Yeah I Have Only Played As Cuphead Once And It Was For A Different Saltbaker Ending
@@MrKap I only played cuphead once and died, on a deathless run...
I got a few S ranks on isle 3. I did Werner, rumor, and briny beard.
it's always crazy to me how everyone finds different bosses the hardest for this game.
@@MrKap makes total sense. Cala María was hard for me to S rank. The doc was a breeze 😂
@@MrKap np!
I would put wally one tier down, he wasn't too hard for me. Other than that this video is accurate
personally I Think Mangosteen Is The Easiest Mini Boss
If You Have Spread He’s Super Easy
And I Only Got Hit 3 Times EVER
Yep. If you aren't only using Chaser with like Twin Hearts like Nathaniel Bandy did, then especially Mangosteen is extremely easy to beat. Thanks for the comment!
