All very accurate Patrick. I will only add that it is only cheap if compared to touristy spots, but as for local places it is absolutely average. NY does have great quality food, but indeed, the Italian Mama, and the old school European are the expert at creating such wholesome and homemade yet luxurious cusine. Very impressed!
Cris Yorke Honestly I think the main difference is in the ingredients. I think being a good cook in NY must be so much more difficult than in Europe, cause the quality of the ingredients is so low, that in order for a dish to actually have a good taste you must be a magician
There are fresh ingredients throughout America, and in NY. Though I would say that one has to look around for that. It also depends on ones understanding of what constitutes good quality ingredients and ones tastebuds.
Help! I can't watch this. Only Italy that knows the science of combining what is best for our palette in its simplicity. Left the country 2 years ago after decades of living there. That's what I miss the most.

I miss the backwater canals that tourists dare not go to. Venice is such a special place, it pains me that it is overrun by clueless tourists. I know the history. Why was Venice even built in the first place? To escape the hordes of invaders from the north. I really should go back soon, improve my Italian, and try to help Venice remain what it is, a jewel for humanity.
Fleck Smugbrother I encourage you to do so 🙂
You know that food tastes good, just by the looks and ingredients. I am sure to gain 60 pounds the first year I lived in Venice.
Much! 👏🏻👏🏻
But great interview
Thanks
E comunque il locale nel video è pazzesco devo andarci!!
E' assolutamente tra i migliori bacari per i cicchetti. Molti lo considerano il migliore.
The food is very exquisite. Looks luxurious and expensive to me.
It's not a cheap place for sure, the main dishes were between 15 and 23. Although in NY I would never get this quality for the same price..
If I would want to sign up for Patreon then I would miss the Patreon link here ;-)
I didn't put it just because I thought that Patreon is something people who already know me well would register to, whereas I think this video will reach people who have no idea who I am. But you're right, I should put it anyways and I will in a moment.

I would love to go to Venice & eat local
Me too, at the moment! 😅
I can't believe how thick they are slicing the meats....Typically Italians slice cold cuts very very thin.....
I have been there "Al botegon" many times in my life. They had 2 litres bottles of Pinot Grigio from the island of San Erasmo which was delightful yet very cheap. But seeing you having all those cichetti made me suffer .... it felt like a food porno film. Thank you nontheless
ahah!
Cheers!

interesting to hear the change of the last 30 years ... beyond a certain limit tourism leads to the destruction of the social relations of a city and its customs
Yes. Mass tourism is literally destroying the city of Venice. I'll talk about it in future videos. It's a very delicate topic.

Need to showcase the name of the establishments more
I deliberately did not. The purpose of this video was showcasing to foreigners the authentic gastronomic culture of Venice, which is a huge element of Venetian society, not advertising a restaurant. I was not paid to make this video.
@@WhatashameMaryJane can respect that.
Ma avevi veramente fame!
