Here's a thought; hang taillights, run wire inside tubing & drill small hole near receiver hitch for wire exit point, splice/wire nut/solder male flat trailer plug to it , plug into trailer lighting, got brake/turn, running lights. #2 - Remove license plate from truck, mount license plate holder on vertical tubing with license plate light, you would have to mount & remount license plate each time you used bed extender but you won't get hassled by cops night or day.
I have the same bed extender and use it to haul two 14' Wilderness Systems Tsunami kayaks. For the mandatory red flags to mark the rear of the yaks, I used red reflective tape and D rings. I first made a core of two strips of duct tape sticky side to sticky side around the inside of a D ring. Once I had the core, I covered it with the red reflective tape. The D rings hook right on the rigging at the stern of the boats. They get your attention flapping around at night. I also put reflective tape on the extender.
I have had one of these for years. I've found that a strip of indoor/outdoor carpeting , glued to the top of the bar is VERY durable and won't break down in the sun as the noodle does. hth
I have this extender, what harbor freight doesn't tell you is that if you reverse your trailer hitch bar with the short end into the trailer hitch this make a great ladder rack as well, this is a great item. thanks for this video
Had to drill a weep hole in the long arm of the L near the short arm intersection to let water out as mine got a little ballooned from freezing rain water. Some of the slop is at the receiver but they make devices for that. Modern truck beds are too short. I’ve hauled 16’ lumber with an 8’ bed and the extender.
The easiest light set up for your rig, go back to Harbor Freight and get a towing light kit with magnet that you can plug onto the trailer plug from your truck
When not in use they usually will pull you over..that happened to my uncle..that what the police officer told him that he should taking it off when he not using it..
I added the magnet taillights only $9 from Harbor Freight secured with zip ties for extra support. I like the idea if outdoor carpet glued to the bar as the pool noodles don't last very long.
How do you recommend transporting two kayaks with that? Stacked on top of each other or side by side with one overlapping a somewhat? I have the same extender and a 2009 ranger extended cab 5 foot bed with two 10ft kayaks.
Just got this extender at Harbor Freight yesterday for my kayak. What did you use to attach the pool noodle to the bar, zip ties? Thanks for the video. I can't wait to try it out.
Dude you are great but drop the tail gate and put your kayak on the rack and tell me you can see the tag, two feet from the left and two feet from right.
I've been thinking of buying the same one but all that play kinda bothers me. Are you gonna make a video on how to take some of that play out? You think you can let us know if it really affects the positioning of the kayaks. Thanks.
Yo man don't mount the lights on the top of the bar. Mount them on the bottom. Wallah you have more space and you don't have to worry about breaking a lens when loading your yak.
You don't know how close I came to clicking on the thumbnail below your video showing a girl in a thong fishing. Stay focused Gnome... Now I'm ready to continue to learn about this bed extender.

hello, I got the HF bed extender when I got my hobie AI, tried the pool noodle on top but needed something better so I added some yakama hully rollers with some custom mounting brackets it was a huge improvement easy load & unload. check out my video kayak386also the hammock idea was great too.

"Cardboard box. 1EA" LOL! Gotta love those old military 2062 references! Perfect.

that is a great idea
I did the same - works great.
Thanks bro I went and picked one of these up for a friend. Works like it should and she was pumped.
+Coady Root Awesome!

I reverse it to hang my hammock too!
Phil Manno it fits good in the vertical position?
Harbor freight has a nice set of magnetic taillights that would set on each side of your kayak on the bar

Thanks Yak! This was very helpful.
Just bought this. It’s a great value.

So that's what I was thinking, use the magnetic lights that's prewired so that it can stuck on when needed.
You know the "Random orange bag" was to put on the back of the long thing that your hauling to make it aware that your hauling something long
pro tip: watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.
@@jeremiascristian521 ?
@Jeremias Cristian definitely, I have been watching on flixzone} for since november myself =)

I use one on my minivan to transport my Pelican Catch 130 HD almost 14 foot
I appreciate this video; my dad copied the idea, for carrying our flats canoe - Stay Safe in the Outdoors!
Thanks for the heads up and pointers! Just got one today up on 9 mile for $60 out the door price. Going after kings and mahi this weekend.
Awesome!
2 kings and a big spanish today
Can I haul 16’ boards with it?
How has it held up 6 years past. Could you carry 2 large yaks? I have old two peddle type? Thank you
Works like a charm, got it today for $49

Good video!
I've had my eye on this same bed extender from Harbor Freight. Let me know how it works out.
+Patrick Bridges ok will do!
Locking pins on receiver hitch &'vertical piece will keep it safe
But 2 antirattle locking hitch pins. Once you tighten those down your problem will be solved. Its more secure from thieves as well.
Just came across ur channel. Going to pick me up one . What caught my eyes more than any thing were those Chevy trucks. 😃
Awesome ! Got to keep around the old truck !
Looks like this extender gonna drag on the road when you hit uneven roads surfaces.
Can you mount this in the vertical position if something waa on the roof???
bad for aerodynamics good for shortening your profile
ALL IS WELL
Just got this extender at Harbor Freight yesterday for my kayak. What did you use to attach the pool noodle to the bar, zip ties?
Thanks for the video. I can't wait to try it out.
Honestly I would just use the extender. The pool noodles on mine wore out fast and i couldn't keep them on . I used zip ties though.
thank you fpor this i need me one. ps i could see that whole f ing tag lol, that cop made that shit up!
Dude you are great but drop the tail gate and put your kayak on the rack and tell me you can see the tag, two feet from the left and two feet from right.

+Monty Alvarez I ll see what I can do. I do not think the play will be a problem. Once you tie the kayak down it should tighten up.
Alright thanks I'll probably go get it this weekend.
Tailgate can hold 250 pounds. Your 70 lb kayak isn't going to hurt your tailgate.
No, but the tailgate will hurt your long kayak if there's no support on the end.
How long is your truck bed?
Speaking of obstructing your license plate, a trailer would do the same.
Would work for 16 ft canoe?
Sure
AYYEEE nice video keep em comin!:)
slack or slop?
Hi jack , by any chance do you still use the extender ? Would you recommend getting one or would you be ok without it ?
I still use it when i have to take multiple kayaks. For 39 bucks its defiantly worth it . It will eventually rust tho. Mine is still going strong!
Can you get two kayaks on it?
Curious myself. I know the boonedex one holds two, but its almost 4x the price.
I have the same set up but realized that its covering my license plate. Have you been pulled over for this?
Who cares lol
The bar is only blocking the oranges
👍👍👍
Yo man don't mount the lights on the top of the bar. Mount them on the bottom. Wallah you have more space and you don't have to worry about breaking a lens when loading your yak.
No need for an extender. Ha e a PA 14 short bed and zero issues.
I would relocate the license plate. 🤔
There is never a requirement for a light...never. only flag
GOD IS GREAT
