@@quasxen You're mistaken. Only things like sneak attack and precision strikes don't get multiplied by crit. Bonuses from strength, class abilities like fighters Weapon Training and from feats like Power Attack all get multiplied on crit.
Best one of these games I ever played was the Modded version of Temple of Elemental Evil. This is the most pen and paper like game I've played since and I absolutely love it!
thanks for the video, i didn't realized about the spell book, i was selecting spell but i couldn't find them after leveling, and i thought i was doing something wrong, it makes sense that you have to prepare what spells you want to bring, but the game doesn't tell you to look there lol. thanks anyways.
Quick note on the saves: You say that bonuses to saves won't stack outside class abilities, but that isn't quite right. Any bonuses of the same type won't stack, but type isn't determined by effect. Many early bonuses to saves are Resistance bonuses, so the Resistance cantrip and a Cloak of Resistance won't stack, but spells that offer Morale or Luck bonuses to saves will absolutely stack with Resistance bonuses. Shake it Off will stack with all of the above, as it's an untyped bonus, and has a great affect on reducing the RNG feeling when debuff and shutdown spells start flying your way. Iron Will and Great Fortitude are also good spells for ensuring that those two saves (the most important two!) are strong on your characters.
@@milliardopeacecraft6555 I literally just stopped playing today because of those damnedable swarms. The acid and fire flasks do nothing when the characters miss every time.
This looks amazing. Feels like Divinity Original Sin 2 prepped us for this game, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, which is preparing us for the granddaddy of them all, Baldur's Gate 3. Can't wait!
I just bought it. I'm trying to like it but damn. This game makes me loathe resting and camping. It's ridiculous, just incorporate it into map movement. Their are mobs scattered about in beginning areas that can wipe you without any chance of victory prior to level 3. Any RPG that seems to incorporate save games as a fundamental mechanism is broken. I'm trying.
As an option, definitely. Though perhaps lock it out for the absolute highest difficulty as far as achievements are concerned (since it is easily cheating to roll up a well-performing early game build, then radically shift into something like a Wizard at the final hour).
Dont keep your hopes up. The developer has their hands full fixing the countless bugs the left in the game upon release. Also i am not sure if it is something they want to include in their game. Is it possible to respec in the tabletop?
Just getting into playing this and boy is a lot to learn lol. I play lots of table top such as warhammer 40k and marvel crisis protocol and this game is awesome cause it's that feel.
One setup early on to achieve would be to run a full team as fast as you can. Since you know the early starting stages are just going to be absolute trash loot and garbage level enemies (except the flying skull jerk) then you don't have to worry about gear, just nabbing levels. You can squander all kinds of days on the main quest once you have unlocked the Stag Lord's Fort location... So run that clock down to about 15 days within reach of his place hitting as many valid locations as you can and running loot sales back to Oleg. As far as characters are concerned, this is my setup I generally go for: 1.Main character with a rank or 3 in rogue but primaried in fighter or barbarian armored tank so I can be heavily armored, find traps and find loot stashes easier. 2. Amiri running fighter and kineticist. 3. Valerie or anyone else in her place using Charisma fear skills. 4. Custom character running a similar build to main character but without the rogue class, add cleric as a vanguard cleric. 5. Ranged rearguard cleric summoner mixed with ranger. 6. Ranged rearguard offensive damage output magic user of mixed classes, ranger added in.
As someone who played pathfinder pen and paper with 5 person party it’s a lot easier and more enjoyable with multiple people to think about the situation and react accordingly. Regardless it ended up to be too much for a party of 5 and DM agreed but it was fun. Wish they made a starfinder rpg game
For instance starting out as a Inquisitor monster hunter i think its called to get a wolf companion for a 7th companion also letting me have magic for future multi class. I usually switch to Barbarian Hulk at second getting a tank with a extra companion.
Thank you! I read how 1 rogue level gives the sneak ability and is quite powerful, so I went to far and gave my whole party a rogue level at level 2, I am grateful that I didn't waste more time only to find out I wouldn't be able to level their main class further. Also, I really gimped my party by splitting at level 2 I think. My first player had all 4 party members at level 2 for Oleg's and won the bandit fight and ancient tomb rather easily. My 2nd try with split level took about 20 attempts to win the bandit fight and is getting wiped by Tartuccio's mercs without killing 1 of them. Also, I persuaded Bokken to assist against the bandit raid at Oleg's and regretted that decision. You probably won't have fire resistance for Valerie yet and Bokken just throws alchemists fire and sometimes kills your own party. There wasn't an achievement for it as far as I could tell and keeping Bokken alive is also terribly difficult. I am playing on challenging level just because I didn't want an advantage and it is perfectly tuned for someone who wants to fight correctly to win. I have to reload saves constantly and fine tune tactics for everything outside random encounters. Definitely play an easier mode if you'd like to enjoy the game without a lot of reloads.
You have the criticals misunderstood unless there is something different going on in the game versus the pnp version when it comes to the multiplier on things like axes and bows with the x3 or such. it is just one confirmation roll not two and they are not actual separate attacks but one that when confirmed do additional damage based on the roll and the multiplier.
That's how i screwed up my first game, i used everything i had on a swarm, then another came out, no more fire or acid potions, only physical dmg in the party, oh well, game over, time to reroll a wizard
the encumbrance thing really hurt me on my first playthrough. I'm wired to completely fill up on loot whenever I play an RPG and wasted so much time resting as a result. Retooled my main character and am going in for another try.
Attack with sword miss! Attacked with dagger miss! Attack with sword miss! Thats pretty much what happens when I played.this shit its a.good game.nevertheless loved the dialogues
[Insert insult] the spiders swarms ! Though I did manage to clear the whole cave when I noticed an exploit in their IA so they deal no damage. Took me 30+ round to burn them with torchs in exchange.
god i love these crpgs, pathfinder, pillars 1 and 2 (especially pillars 1 ) and even dos 1 and 2 are all great :D cant wait for baldurs gate 3 and the new pathfinder, overall I do prefer the real time with pause style but love me some dos combat too. I am spoiled lol!
@@gaeulsnb I havent but I am glad the option is there, I prefer real time overall in thse type of games but have no issue with turn based at all either, I loved Dos 1 and especialy Dos 2 and I am aware Baldurs gate 3 is turn based and that wrath of the righteous will have both battle systems built in from the get go so hopefully all are happy :)
I always try to learn, but sometimes you just don't want to study what happens, but that is probably only the chase because you may not understand what's going on anyway. Somtimes I feel like it in the beginning. In that game at least I try to apply some fear effects sometimes, but I'm not quite sure when it actually works or if it worked yet.
Character creation in this game is true faithful to the pen and paper, best since Temple of Elemental Evil. Dwarf Ranger gets Dwarven War axe proficiency for free, stack strength and take melee ranger skill for free Two Weapon Fighting feat even without the 17 dex requirement. I named him Grim and he's badass.
I believe there is a respec option in the game now. But I don't think it's available on every difficulty. Though, I guess you could just change difficulty, respec, and change back
There is an NPC vendor named Anoriel Eight-Eyes who can respec your main character and/or other party members, for a fee which increases as you level up, also the NPC party members cannot be completely respecced from level 1. They each come with some number of set-in-stone early levels that cannot be changed. Anoriel also recruits mercenaries for you, which is how you can make additional custom party members, but those are pretty expensive as you level up. The cheapest custom mercenaries would be those you get as a level 1 main character, which Anoriel says she charges 500GP for, each. In reality, you only get charged 100GP when you make a merc as a level 1 main character, so you COULD make like 20 of them if you wanted to, but there's really no need to make any at all. You're allowed a maximum party of six characters in total, and there are about a dozen different potential party members you can recruit from among the prefab NPCs you meet in the story, and they're basically free. Also you need to recruit all of them anyway, to act as kingdom advisors once you get your barony set up in Act 2.
@@bcount1 Nah i don't really like the divinity system, can't stand the "armor" mechanic. D&D ruleset is much better but it can be daunting at first and the game does a poor job explaining it.
3:28 ... you get three free respecs and then it costs 10000 gold after. BUt you cannot change your level one choices. Maybe it wasn't there in the 2018 versions but it is there in the 2021 version. SO are all the bugs though. Also pick the largest character you can so it actually does damage. Pick a fighter for more attacks. With a rank in rogue for the back stab - or a rank in magus or anything else that gives an automatic bonus (though it often doesn't add the bonus because the game is buggy)
my biggest problem is the kingdom management, I lost the game twice because of my horrible management of the kingdom lol. I do like both side's of the game equally but there should be like a tutorial with better documentation of the kingdom creation part
that's unforunate I like having manual control of the kingdom instead of using auto and I like the part where you control the kingdom or can if you want. Hopefully they will fix the kingdom part soon-ish so that you can manual control it. Till then I'll just use Auto till they fix it
their is this, not sure if the hotfix is out yet but here in hotfix 1.0.6 an option for "invincible kingdom" steamcommunity.com/games/Pathfinder_Kingmaker/announcements/detail/1708445194413594388 I will just wait until they fix things (hopefully) so that way I can manually control the barony/kingdom without using auto
Game was making me very upset and I was worried I was playing it wrong, good to know that stepping into a random area in the first part of the game and getting beaten to a pulp because my fighter (who’s literal only gimmic is that they FIGHT, therefore should be GOOD AT IT BECAUSE THATS LITERALLY ALL THEY KNOW HOW TO FUCKINY DO) missed all her attacks while under like four different spells that buff attack roles yet the enemy hasn’t missed a single shot, is the game working as intended. I’m gonna go lie facedown on the floor now
Lol 😂 I re-did the beginning 5 times until I figured out wizard and other magic user's in beginning sucked I finally figured that warriors are better starting the and don't spend money on weapons in the beginning buy healing potions and camping item to start invest perception to help looking for hidden items lol 😂 took a few days to figure this out
These kinds of games are not for everyone. A lot of people would buy these kinds of games then gets overwhelmed or get bored as it's slow and some of them require reading which a lot of people prefer voiced. I personally prefer a ton of text as it engages me to participate in imagining the scenarios. Besides me seeing words that I don't usually see or use.
ohhh man, I think I'm at level 3 and I'm not sure if I messed already up or not. I got some tips but I wanted to try my luck with my own choices. I just like to know when I'm not messing up my character. I did what I wanted but then restarted once, after I saw how that little gnome was skilled. I thought that was more how a warlock or how the class was calles, was meant to be. I choosed the wood warlock.
Well this explains alot haha...Im over hear playing on challenging with 4 members in my party and im damn this game is hard as hell. I mean for my first play through I did pretty well, but when I ran into the man eating troll and hit him for like 1 dmg I was pretty screwed haha. Then there was those damn spiders that are immune unless you use fire, mainly the fire pots for the quest. But man I have been struggling hard with this game. Gonna try a new character and make it on normal, maybe this time around ill actually stand a chance.
I love never winter nights and I really wanted to love pathfinder but It is just so unforgiving, even on easy difficulties I'm just struggling to get behind it :-(
I bash my head on the desk every time I play the video game. I DM the tabletop, it's my favorite adventure. I hate how they did a lot things in this version.
This. It's as if they never playtested it. Just one example: When you finally get your kingdom, you're hit with like a hundred events in the first moments. This tide never lets up, so you're never able to relax and immerse yourself in the experience. Instead you're just rushing to complete the events before their timers run down. A simple and obvious design error that completely ruins the experience.
Ranged touch and projectile spells, such as the various Rays, count as "Ranged Attacks" and therefore scale your ability to strike an enemy with them based on Dexterity, just like firing a Crossbow. That's just for these types of attacks, though; when it comes to the enemy saves to *resist the effects* of spells, that is determined by the caster's governing stat for the spell, i.e. Charisma for (most) Sorcerers, Wisdom for (most) faith-based spellcasters, and Intelligence for (most) scholarly spellcasters such as Wizards. In the end, though, if you intend to directly attack enemies through magic, having some investment in Dexterity is necessary to keep your Ranged Attack modifier high enough to actually connect with them.
The primary spellcasting ability depends on the class, actually Alchemists, Magus (Except the Eldritch Scion archetype, which uses Charisma), the Sage Sorcerer archetype, and Wizard uses Intelligence Clerics, Druids, Rangers, and Inquisitors use Wisdom (I think the Empyreal Sorcerer archetype also does, but I haven't actually tested this) Sorcerers, Bards and Paladins uses Charisma Not sure what the spellcasting rogue archetype uses, but I assume it is Intelligence (Could be totally wrong though) Not sure if Kingmaker has the standard Pathfinder rule regarding minimum ability score/stat requirement for spellcasting, but if it does, you'll need 10+Spell Level to cast spells (So, for example, you would need at least 17 Wisdom to get access to 7th level cleric spells) - In either case, it is seldom a bad idea to have a high primary spellcasting stat, so better safe than sorry (Of course, this can easily be tested by making for example a wizard with 8 intelligence - Check if you actually have 1st level spell slots)
The others seem to have covered it, but a class’ spellcasting stat (Int for Wizards and Magi, Cha for Bards and Sorcerers, or Wis for Clerics and Druids) only determines how many spells they have and how hard they are for the target to resist if the spell calls for a saving throw. Spells that don’t have a saving throw associated with it typically require an attack roll, which is calculated the same way as an attack with a weapon, you’re just rolling against the target’s lower Touch AC rather than their full AC.
Honestly everyone complaining about this game being “too hard” are probably just new to these types of games, the only games I’ve played similar to this were DOS2 and Baldurs gate and I felt it to be pretty similar, just more RNG based bc the roles seem a bit more harsh. I do understand the gripes with the skills/spells/abilities not really having a chart to look at, so it becomes so hard to even make your own build without that knowledge. Really enjoyable game if you can get through the learning curve of these types of games.
Does the game have a way to show enemy stats? if not, how does that make sense? All the complexity in the fighting is pointless if you can't apply it to enemies.
Nice video. Just curious, are there any plans to go over the various prestige classes for both the story characters, the player character, and the mercenaries?
Fuck yea, was wondering when you guys start making guides for Pathfinder. Really curious as too what builds you recommend for companions and the maincharacter as this game offers way more options than PoE2 or D:OS,
Im making an elven barb/2h fighter to try and an elven or half elven adori swordlord/rogue duelist dual weild build using char editor aby advice? I have a lot of xp with bg2, nwn, planescape....pillars, arcanum, love crpgs!
Your description of Critical hits isn't quite correct. If the weapon does x2 damage, you don't 'hit again', but instead roll the damage dice + modifiers twice and add them together. This is important because there are bonus sources of damage (like Sneak Attack) that do not get increased by criticals, which they would if you literally hit the target multiple times. Otherwise, great vid!
anyone care to let me know how this compares to divinity OS2? it has respec which ALL rpg's need since no one knows what is good or bad when starting or what they really want each char to do. maybe a mod will come out to do just that
I have never played a dnd based game is hat had any respec option (nor can I recall ever hearing of one). If one is added, it should be limited to story mode only.

@@quasxen oh ok I didn't know this thanks for the info
@@quasxen You're mistaken. Only things like sneak attack and precision strikes don't get multiplied by crit. Bonuses from strength, class abilities like fighters Weapon Training and from feats like Power Attack all get multiplied on crit.
I am happy that they didnt make it easy to sell to masses and stay true to the core roles for us, fans
Anyone getting this 3 years later, or rather, now; There is, in fact, a respec option now.
where is it if u're not talking about the mod?
Best one of these games I ever played was the Modded version of Temple of Elemental Evil. This is the most pen and paper like game I've played since and I absolutely love it!
Temple of Elemental Evil was such a difficult and great game.
Bought this a few days ago and you literally just confirmed my initial frustrations. I need more knowledge and will read more.
A guide to kingdom management would be super handy as it’s the least explained feature in the game.
Only reason I don't play it anymore, I don't know what and when to do kingdom stuff.
just so people know. There is a respec option now
I love your guides. Thank you for all your hard work and great explanations!
thanks for the video, i didn't realized about the spell book, i was selecting spell but i couldn't find them after leveling, and i thought i was doing something wrong, it makes sense that you have to prepare what spells you want to bring, but the game doesn't tell you to look there lol. thanks anyways.
Top tip: put all difficulty settings to as easy as possible
filthy casual
No, really, he's not joking. This is legitimately a pro tip.
@@tardwrangler I'm sorry that I haven't put hundreds of hours into tabletop and only having jumped from Divinity and Pillars.
Thanks dude! I’m going to watch this 14 times and maybe figure out something ☺️☺️
THIS is the kindve information I've been looking for! Explaining how crits worked, was extremely helpful. Thank you!
Regarding the spider swarms. Bokken actually gives you some flasks of Alchemist Fire you can use. They're enough to wipe out the swarms in the cave.
Maybe in easy or story mode lol
@@vedadtr3509 they're not strong enough to kill the swarms in the difficulty that i played on.
@@milliardopeacecraft6555 I literally just stopped playing today because of those damnedable swarms.
The acid and fire flasks do nothing when the characters miss every time.
OMG I feel like I just sat through a college class. I'm going back to WoW where I can just mash a button and win!
Well then you now owe me USD 50,000 for your credits.
Hahaha no shit! Good thing there wasn't a book required!
Lol, he didn't even touch on Kingdom Management, you're gonna need a PhD for that.
This looks amazing. Feels like Divinity Original Sin 2 prepped us for this game, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, which is preparing us for the granddaddy of them all, Baldur's Gate 3. Can't wait!
Pools of radiance was my favorite....yes I'm old. Don't even get me started on Questron.
I'm trying.
We need a respec option in this game - all rpg need that IMHO
YES!
As an option, definitely. Though perhaps lock it out for the absolute highest difficulty as far as achievements are concerned (since it is easily cheating to roll up a well-performing early game build, then radically shift into something like a Wizard at the final hour).
There is a way to respec already. Not official but possible. www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder_Kingmaker/comments/9kfysx/savechanging_respec_tool/
Ok - but I would like an official way :)
Dont keep your hopes up. The developer has their hands full fixing the countless bugs the left in the game upon release. Also i am not sure if it is something they want to include in their game. Is it possible to respec in the tabletop?
I have to say I love your channel I don't even play this game yet but I'm watching the video
Just getting into playing this and boy is a lot to learn lol. I play lots of table top such as warhammer 40k and marvel crisis protocol and this game is awesome cause it's that feel.
Bro i love your content, you always have guides on the games I play and your team is awesome
As far as characters are concerned, this is my setup I generally go for:
1.Main character with a rank or 3 in rogue but primaried in fighter or barbarian armored tank so I can be heavily armored, find traps and find loot stashes easier.
Best beginner guide I've seen posted.
Love this game for the cross class option to make the sub classes ten times better and characters get alot more interesting to build
For instance starting out as a Inquisitor monster hunter i think its called to get a wolf companion for a 7th companion also letting me have magic for future multi class. I usually switch to Barbarian Hulk at second getting a tank with a extra companion.
Thanks for the video. I've decided that I'm too thick to play it.
Helpful. Thanks, man!
This game brings back bad memories of trying to figure kotor's d20 dice system during my first play through.
Oh , I was looking for the super newbie Beginner's guide. This is too advanced for me.
There're mods for respeccing now if you make mistakes, they're really easy to install
So glad you're covering this game! Looking forward to new guides videos :)
OK good I'm going for it alongside divinity original sin 1
Oh fuck, I forgot about swarm enemies. Thanks for reminding me.
I just bought this game and came here for tips.
What the F have I just gotten myself into
For real.

When he played there wasn’t even turned based combat! I would have rage quit.

A very nice guide thank you
Great video! Thank you for creating.
Im so over my head in this game lol so many terms and stuff I cant wrap my head around x)
[Insert insult] the spiders swarms !
Though I did manage to clear the whole cave when I noticed an exploit in their IA so they deal no damage. Took me 30+ round to burn them with torchs in exchange.
The more reloads I have on a big fight the more I enjoy the game. Most of the time
god i love these crpgs, pathfinder, pillars 1 and 2 (especially pillars 1 ) and even dos 1 and 2 are all great :D cant wait for baldurs gate 3 and the new pathfinder, overall I do prefer the real time with pause style but love me some dos combat too.
How do we break up octavia and the orc?
Fuck the orc)
@@zaurhasanov5458 I tried that. Didn't work.

I like your voice. And how you talk. Its... calming... are you actually a Bard ??? Coz i think i fall in love to your voice... im gonna subscribe 🥰
Thanks for the great tips.

Hello Fextralife!!
My sisters is playing this. There are so many bugs screwing everything up. I will play once they fix the bugs.
"Rush ancient tomb, temple of the elk, and the encampment as soon as possible" he said. All of them destroy you at lvl 2. What then?
Game is complex but not impossible. You just need to know and understand the system
@@Astalonte2 The game is definitely NOT newbie-friendly. That much is certain.
Will you please do a Kingdom management guide?
my biggest problem is the kingdom management, I lost the game twice because of my horrible management of the kingdom lol. I do like both side's of the game equally but there should be like a tutorial with better documentation of the kingdom creation part
There a major bugs in kingdom management, unless you put it on auto, you will lose the game.
that's unforunate I like having manual control of the kingdom instead of using auto and I like the part where you control the kingdom or can if you want. Hopefully they will fix the kingdom part soon-ish so that you can manual control it. Till then I'll just use Auto till they fix it
I did too, until my kingdom was destroyed in or before act 3. EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. when fully completing everything.
their is this, not sure if the hotfix is out yet but here in hotfix 1.0.6 an option for "invincible kingdom" steamcommunity.com/games/Pathfinder_Kingmaker/announcements/detail/1708445194413594388
I will just wait until they fix things (hopefully) so that way I can manually control the barony/kingdom without using auto
I choosed the wood warlock.
thanks for making this, was considering getting the game, but savescumming is not my cup of tea

Looking good
I'm here because of RPG division. Love that guy.
Please, I need my Mr.Bastard to do these videos!
Do we have the ability to pick up bounty hunters in our party who can set traps? Or a monk that fights with with feet and hands?
I don't think you got critical hits right, crits are a potential multiplier to the damage of a single attack, not multiple attacks.
You say in game spell attacks use dex (minus touch), but on ur wiki page it says intelligence determines spellcasting ability
In the end, though, if you intend to directly attack enemies through magic, having some investment in Dexterity is necessary to keep your Ranged Attack modifier high enough to actually connect with them.
intelligence determines dc(difficulty class) of spells, this is for resisting mind spells, avoiding aoe spells, and resisting body spells
The primary spellcasting ability depends on the class, actually
Alchemists, Magus (Except the Eldritch Scion archetype, which uses Charisma), the Sage Sorcerer archetype, and Wizard uses Intelligence
Clerics, Druids, Rangers, and Inquisitors use Wisdom (I think the Empyreal Sorcerer archetype also does, but I haven't actually tested this)
Sorcerers, Bards and Paladins uses Charisma
Not sure what the spellcasting rogue archetype uses, but I assume it is Intelligence (Could be totally wrong though)
Not sure if Kingmaker has the standard Pathfinder rule regarding minimum ability score/stat requirement for spellcasting, but if it does, you'll need 10+Spell Level to cast spells (So, for example, you would need at least 17 Wisdom to get access to 7th level cleric spells) - In either case, it is seldom a bad idea to have a high primary spellcasting stat, so better safe than sorry (Of course, this can easily be tested by making for example a wizard with 8 intelligence - Check if you actually have 1st level spell slots)
Unless you are Sorcerer or Bard, then Charisma is for Spells.
Hey are you gonna do this guide again with the definitive edition is out and coming for consoles so much has and would love to see this video remade.
Nah, DOS2 is much, much, more straightforward. And its UI much more simple to grasp.
DOS2 is a walk in the park compared to this ! It's a cRPG for newbies to the genre.
Im interested in what difficulty was the gameplay shown played at ?
Does the game have a way to show enemy stats? if not, how does that make sense? All the complexity in the fighting is pointless if you can't apply it to enemies.
Nice video. Just curious, are there any plans to go over the various prestige classes for both the story characters, the player character, and the mercenaries?

Your description of Critical hits isn't quite correct. If the weapon does x2 damage, you don't 'hit again', but instead roll the damage dice + modifiers twice and add them together. This is important because there are bonus sources of damage (like Sneak Attack) that do not get increased by criticals, which they would if you literally hit the target multiple times. Otherwise, great vid!
How do I increase the number of times I can use spells per day?
I would like a german version of this too, I understand most tips, but maybe not important details.
When I change my weapons, the bar in the middle doesn't show up anymore. How do I recall it please ? Is there any shortcut ? Using linux version
anyone care to let me know how this compares to divinity OS2? it has respec which ALL rpg's need since no one knows what is good or bad when starting or what they really want each char to do. maybe a mod will come out to do just that
I have never played a dnd based game is hat had any respec option (nor can I recall ever hearing of one). If one is added, it should be limited to story mode only.
What encampment for the companions?
