Cyberpunk 2077 this is why there is not 3rd person view

- Some finetuning would be needed until Cyberpunk could have an official 3rd person mode. Games on the '90s had better animated player characters. The devs have done just the minimum which gives somewhat plausible shadows for the 1st person view.

I don't want to mock Cyberpunk. I love this game as you can see from my other videos. But it could be so much better. This game is so much based on character creation and fantastic outfits so it's really a shame we cannot see it from the 3rd person view. This game has the best looking characters I have ever seen so if any game needs 3rd person view it's Cyberpunk. The devs have made NPC's animations correctly so for sure it's possible to fix player animations too. Let's keep this video alive and show them how much we want the 3rd person view for this game. Please like, share and comment. Thank you!

@itachisasku weve got a badass
Yes, the character's shadows are horrible, I don't understand why CD Project didn't fix it?
Fun fact, you don't need a 3rd person view mod to see this. Anywhere you see your shadow shows just how wonky the animations are.
@@user-du7kb6ed1qthey were also planned as 1st and 3rd person games, so the animations are made for that, cp was not
I guess that happens if you use ray tracing right?
Yeah the shadows exposed this badly, but it looks like they finally fixed the issue where your arms are just floating around your torso....that was the biggest WTF moment for me lol.
Dead by Daylight is like this. If you play as Michael Myers and look at your shadow, Mikey has the goofiest and sassiest hand movements.
One of the first things you gotta think of for a first person game is to actually make proper animations for the full character from the outside and let those cast the shadows instead of the ones you see in fps view. There is a reason why Unreal Engine has a default option for this stuff... because it is a pretty default stuff. Obviously not everybody remembers it as seen :)
If you look at the shadows one might protest that it doesn't look that wonky but... yea, if you only moved the camera out without changing the connection between the mesh and the animations then yea, this is a rather lazy of them I guess?
What you are seeings is that unlike 99% of first person games Cyberpunk (And a handful of other games) have a combined 3rd person and 1st person model, most games animate entirely different models in first person than what you see in third, and it becomes apparent that sometimes those animations that we are so used to in 1st person are really weird and ridgid looking if viewed from third. Normally you just have a different outer model but in this case you get to see all the funky consequences of animation requirements in action.
@@jordanbentley Of course, but not everyone has innate knowledge of how video games work behind the scenes and might be curious.
@@jordanbentley yeah like he said, not everyone is aware of how the thing work properly, they mock game but in the end still playing that shit they're whinning about 🤣
And the biggest reason for the really wonky animations is that as the camera is glued to your face (more accurately, shoulders), the characters torso and arms have to stay mostly still or the first person view would make you barf.

For those that don’t understand or don’t know; in most games the game has two separate codes. One code for first person, a second code for third person. When you see your hands move like that, it looks great in 1st person but really weird in third. So for most games when you switch to third person the game will change the sprite or the animation to make the action look normal again. But because Cyberpunk is in first person all the time they obviously didn’t do that. So now your character moves in these weird ways in third person because that’s the only animation they have.
Thanks for the explanation cuz I've actually always wondered why games that have 1st and 3rd person have different animations for same actions
They were supposed to originally have multiplayer
Yeah like if you see GTA 5 in online in first person all animation and position change from the normal third person

I would have liked to seen V from a third person perspective during some cut scenes. But I guess that is part of the story they wished to tell. Most of the time when I play games, I play them from the perspective of someone guiding the player-character. In CP they wished to convey the idea that the player is V. @@bmsuperstar1 because the shadows are the shadows of the model. If they wanted good shadows they’d have to change the animations anyway. They’re not handcrafting the shadows it’s just the lighting engine casting shadows based on the model.

@@ReblazeGaming my guess? A second model for casting the shadows. Many FPS games have for example only the arms as model which are vissible If you would see it in third person and a seperate code for the Shadow.
Tbh, I don't even care about a third person mode, but I would like to see these improved so that a multiplayer release can happen. For this game, they're unimportant, and I think third-person would actually make the game worse, but if someone else is going to see my character from their perspective, the animations can't look like this.
It's honestly kinda awesome that we're able to get this level of detail in world models nowadays though, despite how odd these look. Because it's all done with world models, a second player would be able to see, in third person, all of the same small animation details the first player sees in first person, including any weapon recoil animations, bolt racking, reloads, barrel smoke, and more.
Tbh, not sure how you're going to keep this game's level of animation quality/flashiness while also avoiding worldmodel weirdness, though. Trying to avoid this issue too much results in GTA V first person animations, or Arma 3 first person animations, which definitely match up with what your character is doing, but also look *boring af*.

The choice to adopt a first-person perspective in this context was undoubtedly the correct decision. It fosters an unparalleled level of immersion that is simply unattainable in a third-person view, particularly when it comes to cut-scenes. In these narrative moments, the first-person perspective places players directly into the shoes of the main character, allowing them to experience the game world as if they were living it themselves. This not only forges a profound connection between the player and the character but also imbues the narrative with a heightened sense of engagement and personalization. The first-person view lets players perceive the world through the character's eyes, generating a profound sense of empathy and emotional involvement. In contrast, a third-person perspective, while valuable for certain aspects of gameplay, can create a degree of separation between players and the narrative. In cut-scenes, characters might appear as mere actors on a stage, and the subtleties of their emotions and interactions could easily be overlooked when observed from a more distant viewpoint.
Moreover, the first-person perspective also has the potential to intensify the sense of realism and immersion in the game. Players are more likely to feel like an integral part of the story, rendering their choices and actions within the game world all the more significant. Hence, opting for the first-person viewpoint significantly enhances the immersive qualities of the gaming experience, strengthening the emotional connection between players and the story and ensuring that the rich tapestry of details and emotions that make the game world come alive is fully appreciated

In RDR2 they had two different animation sets when the player goes from first person to third. You can go to an Inn and look at the mirror to check this. First person is like this video but better, the movements is made for functionality. Third person movements are made for aesthetics, they look more natural and lifelike. CDPR could have did something like that.
this game was never meant to be played in third person though, rdr2 had a dedicated 1st and 3rd person mode.
@@nayru1855 it wad meant to but at some point they just dumped the feature
Its CDPR we talking bout. Creator of Witcher 3. So 3rd person is suppose to be a features too.
@@syacak6002 Because TW3 has first person? I didn't know that. Both games were based on deliberate choices for different reasons, stop trying to shoehorn 3rd person when it wasn't meant for the game.
in rdr 2 you felt like a rat when you went in first person because the camera was so close you couldnt even see your shoulders
It would be cool if they rebuild the animations to add an official 3rd person view
and also if they added a theater/replay feature like in ace combat 7, so you can see whatever mission or encounter you do from a cinematic perspective
You mean it'd be cool if they finished the game?
@@psplayer1344 no- it would be cool if mods would be made for those things.
It's time people moved on from that view, it's already been nearly 2 years since launch.
@@UpstageBeast NO NO, I'M NOT THAT OLD! Why is the time running so fast?
They did it for RE Village which is what 8? Idk 😐
@@UpstageBeast Modders shouldn't have to finish the game for them and that doesn't add these things to console
That crouching walk is.... interesting 😍
The fact that they actually animated the body to show the shadow is amazing
If the developers had wanted to, they could have made it so that players could choose between a first-person view or a third-person view. There is only one third personal vision cut scene in the game, at the end of the story, when V and Johnny are sitting on the balcony. There we see our character. I think the character animations in that scene are very good, we need more of them in the game.
There`s actually 2 they added one when victor put`s the kiroshi at the begining of the game
Panam ending too, when you sitting on basilisk
That was the intention actually. In the beginning they wanted you to be able to choose, but obviously a lot was cut from this game. What a trainwreck.
Make you wonder what was the point of you collecting all those sweet sweet gear when you don't even get you see yourself running around in it.
3rd person was never going to happen in gameplay due to the verticality of Night City, just wouldn't work well.
Cutscenes are a diff matter
From what I understand, the decision to have the game be entirely first person while on foot was made early on, so when movement and combat animations being made they were tailored around how they would look in that perspective with no thought given to how they’d look in third person.
So it’s not that the 3rd person animations look bad and that’s why 3rd person isn’t included, it’s that they decided first not to include it so the animations end up looking bad because nobody is ever expected to see them from that perspective.
And yet many other first person games still have almost perfect third person animations, I could literally play some fps games in third person with either minor mods wich changed the perspective, or even with just console commmands.
@Attila Fekete you have to intentionally implement third person animations though, those games are usually multiplayer so they have a separate third person rig for other players to see or only render the arms for first person so you can slap the character model on a rig that uses npc animations, this mod is the equivalent of showing a third person view of floating arms used for a first person camera
@@Extrarium_v1 Well, than every game should be released with both 1st and 3rd person views, this should be a standard.
@@attilafekete7892 okay
@@attilafekete7892 that's a waste of time and resources for games that have one locked view and no multiplayer, and almost none that are like that waste the effort
Damn shorty got that hip motion.
I mainly ride motorcycles, so I see my character from third person a lot, plus I usually take a lot of photos.
It's not an issues for me.
After seeing that crouch walk, I'll start a petition to enable 3rd person.
Whats interesting is that in spite of all of this (not adding facial animations or proper body rigging) the hair still has PERFECT physics.
they definitely intended on having 3rd person camera but scrapped it last minute due to time constraints
That butt swing got me lmao
the way that booty shake when crouch on god 😩😩😤🔥
This is also why V's reflection is never seen aside from activating mirrors.
CDPR never animated V to be seen other than from first person. They could maybe add proper third person animations for V just for the sake of self shadows and reflections but it would be quite a bit of work as it they would need to add animations to V handling all weapons and such from third person.
Frankly I would rather they not n had simply focused on stuff they already added
From this logic they never expected anyone to play the game either.
I think we will see this lazy ass studio animating the character in 3rd person eventually. It's inevitable to happen once the cash cow stops giving milk because they know they alienated a large portion of gamers that despise playing in first person because it causes headaches for a lot of people.
@@h.a.6790They've said they wont and that it's in part because it's too expensive, time consuming and that the game is built around 1st person. They also said it's part of the game's identity to be in first person.
, it's not inevitable it's just your preference and that's ok, there are other 3rd person RPGs to play like Starfield if you care that much.
@@a_smile55"too expensive"
...
It's interesting, I think the third person mesh and the first person ones are identical. Because you can tell that the animations match the third person model and look really janky sometimes. Just enough movement for first person to look like you're actually doing something with your arms.
It 100% is because the devs didn't make animations for 3rd person. They claimed to have cut 3rd person for their creative vision. I think we all know by now, the real truth is they were overwhelmed and cut a corner
@@deedelta9263 wtf are you talking about. Why would they make third person animations for a first person game?
@@nbkhnzzr Capcom wants to talk with you
@@deedelta9263 this is nonsense, they literally created hundreds of really good animations for other characters
@@quadro1337 basically, the way animation works most of the time is that you animate things based on perspective they're being viewed from. For 1st person you animate based on the assumed average FOV setting so that the limbs, and torso appear below you and so the arms hold the weapons in view of the screen. This leads to things looking weird from a third person perspective. Notice how on Bethesda games for instance, in 1st person you don't have a shadow. It's because when you go to 1st person the character model becomes invisible so that the camera can be placed where the head is, without the head obstructing the view and a few other reasons.
What they do is they create 2 sets of animations, one for first person the other for 3rd person. If you look carefully you'll notice that weapons are held differently depending on perspective. In 1st person weapons are practically held at eye level constantly. But in 3rd that looks ridiculous and the weapons are instead held more realistically at your side(which wouldn't be visible in 1st person).
Third person for cyberpunk would require a plethora of new animations AND a reworking of multiple scenes of the game, such as when you're hiding behind yorinobu's TV, when you put on a BD wreath, etc.
New animations for almost every animations in order to keep character movement from look stiff and awkward like skyrim.
Had the game been built around 3rd person, it would feel like a completely different game.
If we give them enough support we may just get a second game that's 3rd person.
Omg the crouching animations 🤤
Thas some mad hip action
I love first person a lot more, however I feel like they shoulda given us some cut scenes so we can see how our character looks. There was a time during my first playthrough where I was naked for an entire mission and didn't notice until I saw my boobs flopping around
What 💀
Lmfaooooo
When you drive motorcycle you can get 3rd person view...
gezzus what if someone walk in while you were playing
Just like Ubisoft did in Far cry 6
Me while playing Vice City: This is why Tommy still can't swim
Wow, the character's movements are as fluid as the giant flame throwing death face cat that we encounter in Elden Ring's first dungeon.
Interesting how swinging a sword has the ability to generate new joints in the shoulder
