Thank you for this very helpful video. I would not have been able to replace the actuator arm myself without knowing how to remove the lid of the dryer.
Great video. I'm trying to remove the top of the dryer off but having a hard time. It seems so easy for you at 32 sec of your video. I have the one with the lint screen on the top.
Do I need to have the model number to order a dryer switch or can I just buy any one I see? Are all the dryer switches the same and can they work for older models too?
My dryer door switch broke and I replaced it and it still doesn't work. I'm sick over it, I guess I'll have to get a new dryer. But thanks for the video. Do you have any idea what else it could be. I try to fix my stuff before I get rid of it LOL
None of the videos I've encountered showed how to take the top off my particular model (Whirlpool GGQ8811LW0). There are two screws at the back of the plastic end panels that have to be removed to be able to swing the control panel up and back, exposing the three hex-head sheet metal screws that must be removed to allow the top to be slid forward for removal. After that, the procedure is the same as with other models to replace the door switch or rollers or drive belt.
Yes, the door switch can cause both symptoms. The door switch can also be tested for continuity. I would recommend using the repair help section of our website (link in the description of this video). If you put your model number in there you'll have access to part, model, and symptom specific repair help. You'll see which door switch you need and there should be a part testing video there as well.
Thanks for all of the great videos. Is there a secret to removing the 3 wire door switch plug? On here (1:23) it looked like it came apart every easily. Mine is on super tight. I have tried pulling manually, using pliers and prying with a flathead screwdriver. Nothing. I don't want to mess up the wires trying to undo it. Any suggestions?
My issue is with the dryer light. Dryer works fine, but light at back doesn't come on when door opens. I did obvious of replacing bulb with proper sized one, but still doesn't work. I assume the same switch controls both the dryer function and the light? Or are there separate switches for each?
In this video, you make it look so easy to detach the door switch wire connector at 1:14. Mine won't come off! I used two pliers to help and it still won't detach. Please help!
I dryer wont start....it is not the thermal coupler switch....had that tested...would a bad door switch keep it from starting? I can hear it trying to but it wont start. Thank you! Great video!
Hi Jeff, there are a few other possible causes. The best place to start is to enter your dryer's model number in our website's search engine: www.repairclinic.com/repairhelp?TLSID=1773.
I have a question. After I installed the thermal fuse, I plug the unit back in to see if it work. It worked 😃 but I forgot to unplug it to screw in the panel. now it blown another fuse or something and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions

Thanks for the video. Helped me repair my MIL’s dryer this weekend.
Less than five minute fix. This video saved me a $50 service call. Worse thing was the $26 I had to give for the replacement switch. Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting this video. This is exactly the information I needed to fix my dryer without a costly service call. You rock!

@PhoenixB4U Use a small flat blade screwdriver to release the locking tab and gently pry the connectors apart.
Do I need to have the model number to order a dryer switch or can I just buy any one I see? Are all the dryer switches the same and can they work for older models too?
Yes, the switch will control the light. You can also check to see if the light socket has continuity.
