VW'S Biggest Mistake? Why The Cupra Ateca Leaves Me Very Confused Indeed

- Today I'm looking at a car that could be a SEAT, but it isn't. This is the new "Cupra" Ateca. Released to introduce the new "Cupra" brand to the world, the Ateca is something of a confused car - and I struggled to work out how it really stands out alongside other very similar VAG products.

Thanks again for coming down and giving my Ateca a go James,
While it was in at Cupra, I spent a day in the face-lifted version which is a far more thought-about place to be. Plenty of bronze contrast stitching about the place, a custom Cupra theme for the virtual cockpit, bucket seats as standard and far, far better paddles you'll be glad to hear.
Still, I absolutely love the car. Tons of space, ridiculously quick and just so much cheaper than the equivalent S3 or Golf R. A no-brainer.
It's also worth noting that even now, the brand new S3 and Golf 8 R still don't come with heated front seats as standard, and are still manually adjustable, however they are both now standard on the face-lifted Cupra Ateca.
I'll give you a shout if I get into a Formentor next. It won't be the VZ5 with the 395hp RS3 engine, sadly, but still worth a crack I'm sure.
You missed out Bugatti at the very top
It's about to go Croatian
And Skoda at the bottom.

Remember when Seat Cupra meant a crazy hot hatch?
To be fair mate, it’s got 300hp and gets up to motorway speeds in 5 seconds.
@@SuperSuperAllons93 *yawn* who cares, a hot hatch should be exciting to drive rather than 0-60 times
@@NeedMoarRage Different strokes and all that. I find it great fun to drive. Done the hot hatch thing and needed a ton more space.
Remember when tv was black and white ?
@@SuperSuperAllons93 do you actually get more space in these though. They look like jacked up normal cars, I bet the extra space is marginal?
I would rather have the Golf R estate.
Oh look. A tall Golf.
But if it's a tall Golf you're looking for, it's ideal. There are a lot of people who struggle to get in/out of low (normal) cars and don't need it to 'handle'.

1:37 ""Then, a few years ago, somebody, somewhere, [not sure whether that was in Spain or Germany], decided that that wasn't quite enough, they needed another brand: SEAT was going to be "cleft in twain" and turned into SEAT and CUPRA"".
I can answer that:
1) This was decided in 2016 by Luca de Meo (then SEAT's CEO). Cupra was launched in 2018.
2) Decided in Barcelona (even though Wolfsburg always has the last word in these kind of things).
3) Reason: SEAT is seen as middle-lower end brand. Luca de Meo complained that VW always undermined SEAT and that they wanted SEAT to be the "Alfa Romeo" of VW. CUPRA is to fill that space, to compete with Audi I guess (Audi to be nice, CUPRA to be the sportier one).
Now Luca de Meo is Renault's CEO, and he's gonna do the same thing there: he's gonna prompt up Alpine, the "Alfa Romeo" of Renault Group.
You're welcome.
No skodas were harmed in the making of this video 😂
I really don't understand this class of car. Sat high in the air and "sporty" I mean there's a reason they don't make GTI lorries isn't there. The only sporty SUVs I can actually agree with are the Bowler ones or the Mitsubishi Pajero Evo
I know like 5 families with either the Ateca or the Karoq, and they purchased these after they either had a MPV of Vauxhall/Opel like the Zafira or some sedan/wagon like the Insignia or Superb or Passat.
People like the higher driving position, nice looks and pretty good handling.
I really think these make sense in a lot of countries, way more than the larger SUV's that should have been an MPV.
Ateca 1.5tsi and Karoq 1.5tsi are great lease cars also.
I honestly thing these crossovers are a fad. Larger, heavier hatchbacks kind of go against the strict regulations put in place for eco friendly vehicles - which is only going to get stricter.
I can see in the near future how we will all look back and think “why did we buy these? What we’re we thinking?”
"I mean there's a reason they don't make GTI lorries isn't there."......... Don't tempt fate! I saw a new Transit van the other day which had spoilers, body kit, fake exhaust tips, big alloys etc. Was apparently a "Transit GT Line". Enough said! lol
@@soundseeker63 not seen them. Those MSRT ones are cool though, but not for 50k😂
Well, you get more practicality with those cars. I own a FF3 ST and it is an amazing car but driving it in winter or on country roads is just painful, for example this ateca won't have those problems because of larger clearance.
Well, here’s a real world report. I took delivery of a Cupra Ateca last summer, I’ve covered just under 8,000 miles already, and it is an awesome car! It goes like a stabbed rat, that engine is sweet as anything, stick it in comfort mode and you can average over 29 miles to the gallon, run it in Eco mode and you can take that to over 35MPG. But engage Cupra Sport mode and everything tightens, the gear changes are faster, and you get a fantastic exhaust “burp” as well. Is it good VFM? Well, mine booked in at 38.4K, the Audi cousin was nearly 50K and the Porsche Macan (yes, the Macan has the same running gear) was over 52K, a premium of 14K for what - a fancy interior and badge appeal. Those who keep dissing the Cupra Ateca need to get rid of their snob-goggles and see it for what it is - the fastest sub 40K SUV on the road right now! And for the record, we had some really epic snow in January and I ran this car all over the place in snow mode on standard tyres and it NEVER gave up once.
I think most people commenting on this video can't actually afford one so are looking for reason to claim why the don't want one. The face-lift model has fixed pretty much every argument against it and it shaved .2 of a second off
Hey there buddy, just bought one the same I'm glad to see also positive feedbacks, till now I drove like 500km,it's a beast !
The most surprising thing is there's people willing to pay 40k for such things
Nobody pays £40k for one of these.
I pay for it monthly, for a ridiculously low amount. It’s light and breezy motoring.
@@SuperSuperAllons93 The monthly payment is irrelevant, it's still a £40k car, you're just splitting that cost over a longer period or just paying for the depreciation and selling it back. Either way you'd get cheaper finance on a Golf R. It's not light and breezy, it's tall and heavy.
My monthly payments are also ridiculously low, on a Porsche. That's what putting down a 70% deposit does ☺
Do you get a spare wheel for that?
@@ApothecaryTerry Trust me, the monthlies are far, far lower than any deal on a Golf R.
It’s light and breezy in that it’s one payment and then other than insurance and fuel, I’m all set. I’d love to have a Porsche one day, but I can currently afford one car, and it packs all the performance and room for tat in the boot that I need.
@@SuperSuperAllons93 Since a Golf R is a cheaper car, the monthlies being lower on the Cupra mean one of 3 things: huge final payment, insanely long term or they can't sell the car at full price and are discounting it. None of those 3 are good things...
I'm not really suggesting it's a terrible car at all, but SUVs don't make a whole lot of sense except as 7 seaters or for people who genuinely can't get into a lower car. Otherwise they're heavier and higher than they need to be, meaning less efficient, worse handling, worse performance, etc. Again, worse doesn't mean bad, simply worse than they need to be so not my thing at all.
I've only got one car, the porker has plenty of luggage space (425 litres compared to 485 in the Ateca) but trips to Ikea are challenging! Can take 2 sets of golf clubs, 72 cans of beer and a spanish guy all in the boot though...don't ask me how I know that. No rear seats either, but everyone else can walk ☺
Just a quick comment. As a spaniard that is a big fan of cupra and SEAT, cupra has existed for more than 20 years. It started as Seat sport and moved on to change its name into cupra, it's like the amg of mercedes but for SEAT. Now they decided to become a separate brand but Cupras have been here for lots and lots of years. :D
I saw a few face lifted versions of these on the road and thought “Hey, that doesn’t look bad for a ~£20k SUV” but NOT FOR £40K ?!
Yes. That price is shocking.
Skoda are cheaper still
Was just about to comment that Skoda is VAG’s value brand but you got there first 🤷♂️

I've seen the skoda, seat and vw all reviewed together. Skoda was the better deal.
But skoda doesn't have a 300 hp suv.
Hey mate great video as always... Will you be reviewing the cupra formentor? Is that gonna be the first stand alone car actually from cupra...
Yes I think a review of the Formentor would be more like it. At least it's a newer model. The Ateca has been around for a while now.
The reason is volume sales. That is actually what most people want. Spacious comfy and practical car with a touch of power.
I have one of these on a particularly good PCH deal. As a family car it works really well, plenty of room for a young family, reasonably comfortable but with a turn of pace when needed.
Exciting it is not but if it was that or the equivalent Nissan or Kia I know what I’d rather have!
Thanks for the review. I feel the need to suggest you to add even metric specifications in order to make them easier to understand for non-UK citizens.
For instance I have no idea how much is 22mfg. You should simply add the conversation in km/l on the screen
I think their biggest mistake may have been doctoring emissions measurements...
BMW doing exactly the same, put M- series stickers here and there, rims with M on it and charge extra for it.

On the other hand Seat Leon is far better than the Skoda Scala, and even better looking than the VW Golf.
Really enjoyed the passive disappointment of the cabin part of the review! Ha ha!
This was their first launch, but now they have done other models, suchs as the Cupra Formentor wich is a kind of crossover that is unique to Cupra and they have already anounced that will have a 390 hp 5 cylinder (straight from Audi) version. Not a single VW has been allowed to use a TFSI.
It still amazes me that a smallish family car has 300bhp.
I know Iam out of touch and drive a crappy company focus with 115bhp and our own crappy fiesta ecoboost ?123bhp) so can on my imagine what 300 bhp feels like.
I remember the twin turbo 3 litre supra having 320bhp and driving a friend's auto back in the day , it went (after a touch of turbo lag and gear box kickdown) like a strapped rat,so my mind is blown with all these " light" 2.0turbo engines in family are chucking out the same but with a much faster gearbox👍
Ateca 1.5tsi is great and I love it, the transmission of VW is amazing and it is a good car. Great for leasing, wouldn't know another car for the same money, brand name and high driving position that most would take over it. (Outside VAG)
Automatic transmission is not amazing, DSG jerks when you try to drive gentle in traffic. It also has a lag when taking off.

I had a leon cupra 290 2 year ago, it was a box full of creaks and rattles, so it went back to the lease company after 1 year.

Would love to get your thoughts on the formentor as considering that when my Cupra Leon goes back. -vz2 comes with heated seats and steering wheel as standard

From the list at the beginning you forgot skoda....which I suppose would be the bottom of the list which is a shame coz I think they are making some nice looking cars these days.
I think Skodas are absolutely brilliant. Great products, good value for money, no nonsense, not over complicated, well built, etc. Their slogan of 'Simply Clever' really does suit well.
I'm not sure I would put SEAT above Skoda these days, SEATs definitely feel cheaper
And have been for years.
No, Škodas feel much better than Seats do.
Dare I say, the current Octavia feels just as nice inside as the new mk8 Golf.
I’d put Škodas in par with VW, and since they’re generally slightly cheaper and bigger than the VW counterpart, is a better car.
For people who aren’t ‘car people’ and want a fast SUV (the sort of people who ONLY care about 0-60 times) then sub 40k nothing comes close? Vehicles of a similar size and purpose are going to cost a lot more eg SQ5, Macan S, X3 M40i etc, yes those cars are much nicer inside but if you want SUV, speed and have a tight budget, this seems a great buy for the right person!
Great point. I own(lease one) and love it. Fast, practical and fairly cheap to lease.
A white good for £40k. It’s a car for people who think they like cars but really don’t. The Xanax of the VAG automotive offerings
We have, I say we it's the wife's motorbility car, a seat areca 1.6 diesel. We went to Scotland in it, now I like a spirited drive so didn't expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. The boot is excellent as we get her mobility scooter in it. I'm not a fan of SUV id rather have an estate if I need the space but I am looking at the Leon cupra estate as my next car and a decent all-rounder. However as you mentioned I have an issue with the drab interior, interiors are for me something that needs some work in alot of cars though.
I am looking at a 1080p screen but it says the video is 1440p
Jay, is there a plan to have a look at the Formentor? VZ of course, maybe the VZ5? Just for fairness?

I wanted a sporty, not too big car with ground clearance. I want to be able to go on small paths, quickly get on the motorway, be able to easily park and be confortable on long drives. I had been looking for a year and the cupra ateca checked all the boxes. The car satisfies all my needs though I admit the looks don't get me very excited. I do totally agree the brand cupra is nonsense. I would have rather bought a seat ateca cupra

Couldn't agree more. Nice work chap
Quite strange to compare a Ateca to a S3 or Golf R......completely different sector and requirements surely 🤔
Who's at the bottom, seat or skoda?
I've got a Stelvio and I've just ordered a Cupra Ateca to replace it. You can have a go in it if you want.
It’s just the middle ground between a family mover and something fun. Most people can’t afford both a performance car and a sensible family car, so why not add another option to the market? Of course it’s going to fall short if people see it as an attempt at a performance car only.
Think you forgot that "cupra" was seat's gti for a number of years before they decided to make it its own brand. Witch of course only confuses people even more.
Speaking of VAG products, I am curious as to whether you had anyone contact you to sample a VW ID.3 yet? VW itself deems it as its most important car for the 21st century and it sells quite well (for an EV at this current point in time, that is).
Maybe you could contact VW and have them let you sample one? I am sure you can pull this off... That is, if you are interested in it, of course!
VAG - what about Skoda - where do they fit in - above or below SEAT ??
back in the day, seat was supposed to become a rival for alfa romeo. that ship has sailed but seat is rather on the sporty side. skoda is supposed to be on the bargain side of things, opposing maybe hyundai. so there's no real answer i guess.
@@RayEttler As I understood things, VAG make user of the 'cheaper' brands, such as SEAT & Skoda to prolong the use/ sale of 'older' VAG chassis & powertrain designs. For example, only when the Mk4 Golf chassis & powertrains were first released, then the Mk3 Golf chassis & powertrains were released for 'new' versions of SEAT & Skodas, which is why SEAT & Skoda models can always be cheaper as a good proportion of their chassis & powertrain development costs have previously been recovered through sales of the more expensive Golf variants.

Great Video and agree with your comments! I never got the Seat brand and definitely can't understand the whole Cupra brand thing
Well a Seat used to be a better looking VW for a lower price... and they had 2 models... how they can justify all the models that are sold at the moment... no clue
I can understand the Seat brand, the Leon is a better looking and cheaper Golf, and the Ibiza is a decent, good looking supermini. It's the whole Cupra as a second brand I don't get. Making Cupra its own brand and trying to make it its own thing - only to sell Seat Atecas and Leons anyway. What was wrong with just selling a Leon Cupra as a Seat Leon Cupra? Like VW making the R trim a separate brand to distinguish it, then selling an R Golf and R T-Roc. Pointless.
I'm going to look at a vz2 tomorrow while having my car serviced
My Ateca 2.0l FR Sport was 12k cheaper, came with electrically adjustable seats with heat and does around mid to late 40s mpg and it totally suits my knackered back.
Ok it's got Seat badges, red seat stitching and less power but it's plenty fast for me.
I'd always preferred an estate car but since damaging my spine I couldn't find a suitable one. So my range of choice was an SUV or an SUV.
I was looking at this a couple of years ago and bought the Peugeot 3008 1.6 petrol GT Line Premium. I have absolutely no regrets, all round a nicer car to look at, drive and be in and cheaper.

I like mine, bit of a Q car, wanted a car for dogs, bike rack and towing and mild off road ability, which can be comfortable on a long journey, which it is. It's quick for this type of car. I nearly always have it Cupra mode, and it's still reasonably comfortable. I would criticise the DSG box which is dim witted even when used manually and in auto Cupra mode, it changes up the gears for fuel economy. It has really noisy wipers and the press buttons are crap as they stick (I know another with same problem) so you find the rear door coming down on you every now and again. I would agree the steering has little feel and has a false heaviness to it. Beside my niggles, it's not a bad car.
I suppose that thet couldn't have done before until now with the Formentor VZ5.
Is that another fast, unwieldy SUV? When will it end :(
there are entirely too many entries in the model-range of VW-Audi-Seat-Skoda... you can basically get a "Golf" in all the lengths and heights you want..or don't want...and all of them are kind of expensive...
Our family car is the VW Tiguan R-Line Tech edition. Comes pretty much fully loaded, with only the options of full leather and better sound system. Think it lists at 37k for the 150bhp diesel. TBH, the engine is more than capable for the car. I like you are confused with the SEAT. When I drive the Tiguan, its just not the type of car I want to drive fast or blast it down some country roads.
It does have generated sound, but only in cupra mode. You might hear it a little bit in sport but definitely cupra
Struggling to see the point of sub branding the sub brand unless it's radically different. VAG recouping Dieselgate maybe ?
The only thing this white car should’ve had is the alcantara bucket seats and it makes them feel sooo much more special then without them, but in my opinion going off my Mums red cupra with all the options it feels really good and makes you feel really special and funny enough the amount of people that have come up to my parents when they have driven in this thing is absurd and for the money you would struggle to find a better SUV, and if it is tuned it could give an A45 a run for the money and I can say from experience because my dad owns a 2019 CLA45
Seat used to be a kind of Spanish Alfa Romeo. Not any more.
Hence they created CUPRA.
Please try the CUPRA Formentor for the real CUPRA feeling! :)
Cupra is absorbing SEAT soon. Basically the Cupra badge will also go on cars that aren't that fast i.e. the 1.5L Cupra Ateca isn't as fast as a 2.0L TDI SEAT Ateca.
Seems a bit odd all round doesn't it - why even bother with the whole new brand?
@@JayEmmOnCars in my honest opinion, i think VAG are trying to stoke the sales of what would be SEATS with a badge change and some copper trim in the hope a lot of people think for example 'wow i can get a Cupra Ateca new for under £40k (cost of 1.5L 'V1' trim) not knowing they just bought what was a SEAT but for 5-10k more.
To be fair I think that having Skoda, SEAT and Volkswagen making similar stately looking cars is probably too much, so swapping SEAT to a head to toe sport brand might make a bit of sense, but it's at the expense of the Cupra legacy... Because a Cupra used to be the highest performance SEAT with the highest trim, now it can also mean inferior performance and low trim (V1 is the lowest trim of 5!).
Also, back to the Skoda and Volkswagens... do VAG now stop making 'sports' trims for these now because they have Cupra, a dedicated brand to sport trims? Probably not because they haven't thought that far ahead.
I the 1.5 V2 ateca its definitely more mid size than small. love the car so far, i prefer the interior to newer cars. It drives really well and the lease deal was a bargain. For what it is, its very cheap to insure.
It says a lot about the materialistic/aspirational nature of people these days when "Cupra" and "DS" can sell people on the idea that these are some sort of independent luxury brands in their own right, when in reality they're fancy Seats and Citroens respectively, I guess at least the DS models look different to the core Citroen range, but still - the power of advertising is as strong as ever!

As for this Ateca and everything else like it, overpriced jacked-up Golf, yep. Lose the benefits of the hatchbacks, gain none of the benefits of the estates or MPVs while paying more than you would for any of these. Despite this, I do have to admit that soft-roaders do offer one thing none of these do, a higher risk of a rolling as resulting from a crash, like when T-boned. OK, maybe that one isn't a positive, but people buy these things to keep their family safe!
As a top sporty model for Seat Cupra it had some history and made sense but as a "stand alone" brand it s just unnecessary confusing.
So..a Tiquan? ( US equivalent)?
I own a " real " seat cupra model of 2006. I never even understood what the new cupra brand stand for.

I think the luxury car tax is a good thing and that very much is a luxury car, but the implementation is a bit off. RRP vs sale price doesn't make much sense.
These sporty high riding things do confuse me, not to mention the Cupra brand. The VAG brands are hardly distinct on their own, never mind a sub brand which is "its own brand honest". I'm sure they'll sell, but the Cupra logo gives me a PC gaming peripherals vibe aimed at teenagers.

5 cylinder from Audi
We hired an Ateca from Europcar in Santander last year. A one litre, 3 cylinder version in white which looked just like this one. It was perfect for our needs. If VW group want the Cupra brand to stand out, the first thing they should do is stop it being sold in poverty colours.

Let’s hope it’s on lease otherwise owner Jack might be disappointed on resale.
I am going to miss the mk3 cupra leon
I kinda prefer manual seat adjust.
Why are car manufacturers making family cars that only do 25MPG??? We had cars family in the 1950's that could do 40MPH +.Is this progress???
No, we need 20 inch wheels, and cars need to be lifted and square brick suvs that are the size of barges because we're all fat and lazy.
These things harm fuel economy.
The Cupra Ateca can do 152 mph, that's progress
;)
Just going by the title I’d say that award goes to the Type 4. Not wanting to upset Type 4 fans around here.
Well perhaps not a mistake. But not a success.
All SUV's leave me confused...
They're obviously great for a segment of the population. Those who have larger families, carry a lot of gear, go camping, etc. But it leaves me slightly irritable that people basically buy them because their behinds get so big that anything smaller is uncomfortable. That and they enjoy sitting high and feel safe in a larger vehicle. Perhaps compensating for the fact they pay less attention to their driving and more to their phones.
@@MasterMalrubius I hear what your saying and I call bullshit. The high roof is unusable beyond the top of the back seats unless you like decapitation, they hold less than an estate, they are hopeless off road, small kids struggle to get in them, they're heavy, don't handle well, are usually gutless and cross many styles without achieving to do any of them very well. You are spot on about the inept and incompetent liking to sit higher whilst taking selfies on their overprice iFruit.
@@CathodeRayNipplez theres also things like needing a higher vehicle cuz older people get in easily, if you need to carry a doggo in the boot and sedans arent hatchback, and my moms ssangyong korando weighs 1550kg so much much lighter than literally any other new car today. And we got it really cheap. Also its a 2l diesel with 175 hp, drives really well. Now, if money was no object, Id still go for the alfa stelvio veloce, hatchback and weighs 1600kg, all other wagons are 1800-2000kg. So, there you go, sometimes suvs make sense
@@dwade3202 Old people? Mate I live opposite a large senior citizens club and there are next to zero SUVs (bar the 35yo cleaning lady has one). They all drive sedans and hatchbacks. That OAP line is bullshit I hear all the time yet never see. I have a 74kg bull mastiff and he has no issues in a Subaru Outback and would not be happy having to lap three feet to get in the back of a stupid hatchback on stilts. So there you go SUVs make no sense.
@@CathodeRayNipplez my aunt has really bad knees and goes in/out with ease in the korando, and when I was driving her to a check up in my alfa 147, she couldnt get out. And m8, subaru outback is literally the most SUV wagon you couldve mention LOL cant believe you talk shit on suvs, and you have an outback haha
I live in the Far East.
I’ve never seen this brand before. Never seen a KIA, here in Japan, either!
No Korean cars in Japan, why wonder why that is ? Lom
@@ahemgee9542 I wonder if people in Japan are super loyal to their home grown brands.
@@veemacks7255 the JDM stuff is a lot better usually. I've got a 2001 Toyota Crown Athlete VX and miles better than anything else I've been in
@@veemacks7255 Well in Korea Japanese cars are banned, think Japan did the same in return.
@@ahemgee9542 I guess that's one way to go. Other countries use the crazy import duties to achieve the exact same thing.
Well at least when their reliability issue come up with the next gen population, the image of VW won't be hurt a lot
Hmm. Do think that both the JM review and many of the comments are blinkered or at least unimaginative. Let's say you have a dodgy back and find a small SUV a lot easier to get in and out of comfortably. Reading the various car forums, you'd be surprised how many of us fall into this category.
So you want something with a decent chunk of power with 4WD, and decent space for 4 adults and cargo but you don't like big, clumsy, heavy SUVs. I used to run a Macan for instance but got rid it as just too large and heavy for the country lanes around here (and also for the poor driver ergonomics - eg all those buttons - they may look impressive, but you try and find the right one at a quick glance). What else would you choose? Stelvio is F-Pace sized - huge. Even Tiguan keeps growing to the point where it's now a moderately large car. Evoque is in the right ballpark but it's so heavy that even the P300 doesn't have the performance it should. Formentor is an odd thing once you look hard at it - starting to get too low to be comfortable and its shape reminds me of the old X1, not a good look. Q3 is what I currently run, but there's no SQ3 available, and RSQ3 has almost too much power to be useful and costs silly money for what it is.
You've missed Skoda which is similar priced and placed to Seat. Reasonable, most spacious, and most car for the money from Vags empire. I didn't said the best. Cheers.
What an atrocious vehicle, just as every single performance or non-performance SUV.
What's atrocious about it?
It’s an SUV.
@@pedrohicken3884 Wow, such a brave and original take.
@@future62 thanks dude! 👍
@@future62 it's an unoriginal, bland suv that is supposed to be a performance vehicle (pick one) and ends up being just another generic, mediocre vehicle that fails in the goal it set out to achieve. That's why it's atrocious.
1. Same 2.0T engine is half of VAG cars.
2. Could be in any VAG product from the last decade.
Sums it up really. Leaves me dead inside.
I'm just liking and commenting your videos because you have just bought a Lamborghini 😇👍
VAG have never commutes to making SEAT the sporty affordable brand. Introducing Cupra as a brand was just confusing especially using an existing mainstream SEAT crossover. They should have waited for the Formentor with the 5cyl engine from the RS3/TT-RS which is only available in LHD. To make matters worse, the interiors are just standard SEAT and they’ve equipped them with some of the lower powered engines and loads of spec options. Makes SEAT redundant in my mind.
£40k new car and heated seats are an option?? Wtf.
This is my car. When I looked at the S3 and Golf R, the heated and electrically adjustable seats were also optional on the S3 and Golf R despite being more expensive. Audi/VW still charge extra for electrically adjustable and heated front seats on the brand new S3 and Golf R, however, the heated and electrically adjustable seats are now standard on the face-lifted Cupra Ateca and still under £40,000. It is bizarre.
@@SuperSuperAllons93 That's absolutely crazy. What a rip off.
Great item Jayemm I relly like this car
I just read that VW had split Cupra off of SEAT as a new brand, and thought... "Why?" Since all of the news I could find related to more massively boring crossovers.
Best cupra was technically still Seat.
Seat Leon Cupra R Estate with a ABT tune for 500quid.Better than a Golf R or Audi S4 and cheaper.
Too many brands bit like BMC in the sixties find it confusing and pointless. Like most German brands overpriced ( Spanish badges).
So pleased I bought my Duster Limited edition fully loaded with more standard features than I can list three years servicing all included
For £16,000. Oh and it’s in the top five for resale value and top ten for reliability. It’s a 1.3 petrol and on a run get 48 mpg. I did the maths!
You forgot Škoda in your list of VW brands.
