Hello, injected quantity should be between 4 and 5 mg/s on your Hawkeye, that's how to tune actuator on your injection pump.
Thanks for your videos, it really helps P38 owners

I have just replaced the seals on my pump as they were leaking and have adjusted the pump until it runs ok however it does seem to lack power slightly and keeps stalling if I give it any throttle when it's up to temperature, injection quantity is between 4-5. Any tips would be greatly appreciated thanks! 👍😁

Once again a very good video. I also have this kind of rough idling, i also tried the ruber hammer solution, that solve the problem but if i just incerase rpm it come back again to ths rough idling.

Hello there. Yes, it's hard to get the correct adjustment without proper tools. You'll just need to try and adjust it so it works at all RPMs. Thanks for watching

Hi , in my P38 i have new cylinder head, repaired injection pump, new timming. When my motor is cold then perfectly start , when its hot then i must cranking over 15-20 second for start. I cant find problem. Before repair all was ok🍻👍

Hi Seb. Usually hard hot start is due to a worn injection pump. SInce you replaced it it's hard to say what the issue is. I'd check timing of the injection pump and just make sure everything is as it should be since you've replaced many parts. Thanks for watching!

So when you knock the pump's top cover towards the front of the engine, it increases the RPM a little and fixes the bad idling amd bad hot start?

Hello sir , hope you are well, I i own P38 1998 2.5 DSE Manual recently when I tried to install tuning box ,it didn't work but it messed up my engine , the jeep would start fine but it reves will not go above 1500 hundred even putting full paddle down .could drive aswel but max speed 55 kms/hr.
I could figure out anything. I am after buying i car diagnostic computer for range rover P38.
After diagnose it shows code of :
    Accelerator Potentiometer
1.Acel pot voltage out of range due to O/C or S/C in wires or sensors.
    2. illogical values comparing throttle pot idle switch & throttle pot position.
Would you have any idea about this issue .your valuable advice will be much appreciated .
    Regards
    Ahmed

Couple of questions, what are your thoughts on fitting the aftermarket box to aid with the hot stat issue on these engines.
Does your brake fluid rise as the engines cools (the level appears high on the video) I cured this on mine by replacing the accumulator, ABS pump now takes half the time to prime from cold, the pump now kicks in after the fourth press of the pedal, before the change the pump kicked in on each press of the pedal.

Hello Chris. Yes, the brake fluid rises a bit after turning of the engine. That's why you should make sure the level is never over the max level so that the fluid has space to work. I believe the workshop manual mentions that the accumulator pump should start after about 5 uses of the brake pedal. So it sounds like you fixed your issue well. Regarding a hot start fix. Usually it's an indication that the injection pump is worn and soon in need of refurbishing. The timing might also be a bit off if it hasn't been checked and set regularly. If it's a car you intend to keep a while I'd consider replacing the pump if it's worn. A hot start fix is an easy and cheap way to postpone this rather expensive fix (unless you refurbish it yourself). I personally wouldn't fit a hot start fix (though I considered it), but it all depends on your particular situation so I'll leave that up to each one to determine. I ran my black P38 without a hot start fix for over 3 years with hard hot starting before I replaced the pump. Thanks for watching!

Work On P38 thanks, the motor is 115k miles so not sure if that is in the mileage range for when they are worn, one thing I did notice that improved the hot staring, was to replace the vacuum pipe from the underside of the inlet manifold and blow out the passage, as I couldn't get to it when I cleaned out the manifold.
Not completely sure what this vacuum pipe does.
It's my weekend motor, it's not horrendous to start from hot I can live with it, but I will be having the timing checked as you mention, I'm meaning to get the gear box oils checked and changed in the future, having changed the oil on my drive today, I draw the line at the gear box getting too old for crawling under it.
Though I did replace the centre to rear exhaust a couple of weeks ago, it took a couple of days to recover 😳

Hello, I have a BMW 325tds, the engine is the same as P38. Can you help me out? How much the injected quantity? mg/s ? I think i need to change the quantity adjuster and i need this value to adjust it perfectly.

    • @WorkOnP38
      @WorkOnP38  4 роки тому +1

Hi I haven't managed to verify the value from any Bosch source so I've heard anything from 5 to 10 mg. I'd tend to lean towards 7-8+ but it's just a guess. Thanks for wathing!

Hı, I have a question. Do you have any idea which cars clutch kit fits to 2000 P38 2.5 DSE manual. The parts for these cars in olur country are very limited and ı need to know if any BMW ör land Rover model clutch kit fits to this car.

Hi, I'm not sure which manual transmission the BMW or other brands came with. I seem to recall the manuals in the Range Rover were R380. But I'm not 100% sure. Anyways, you can always check various part suppliers to see if you can find some part numbers and cross-reference those with other brands. Thanks for watching!

Hello Taa. Unfortunately you'll need a diagnostic unit that can do body programming. My HawkEye can do it, and I believe Nanocom and other do as well. Thanks for watching!
