When I was a kid, (I'm 82 now"), there was a common chest at family reunions, called "Fireless cookers".. The were a metal-lined wooden chest that had cork insulation around the 2 large round wells. Ladies would cook their special recipes, place 2 hot bricks in the well, then the pot, and strap the chest on the running board of the car. MAN did we eat good in the '30s.
    Thanks for the video.

Thanks Shug, excellent DIY instruction on Cozy construction. I built one and wanted to mention that I used the silver tape you used and I think it's better that using duck tape. The silver tape is actually metal so it's better for hot things. I purchased mine at Home Depot.

I've made similar devices for "bag cooking" using these same materials. Many times when backpacking I'll use the vacuum bags of the freeze dried meals I make myself as the "cooking" vessel and the cozy pouches work great for giving the dehydrated food enough time to rehydrate and keep the food piping hot. The cozy bags as I make them also serve as double duty as an emergency reflective surface in the event you need to signal for help and as a hand warmer in colder temps at night.

This is exactly how I make my pot cozys. Funny to watch you do it the same way I figured to make it. The only difference is I leave a notch for the pot handles (I have the same Snow Peak pot) and make the cozy tight enough to hold itself on. That way I can hold the pot by the handles and the cozy just stays on. Whoo buddy!

I don't get it. Why would anyone give you a thumbs down on this demonstration of how to make a cozy?
That is quite a unique design of a cozy. I have never seen instructions on how to make it so simple that even a third grader could do it.
So what did those people that gave you a thumbs down on it, not understand about it? That just blows me away!
Thanks for sharing because I'm going to make myself a few of those.

Because of you and your videos my friend Susan Ferko and myself, have taken up backpacking all over Ohio... just in the last couple of weeks alone we have invested a lot of money into backpacks and the water bladders that insert inside and all the other amenities it takes to go hiking and camping into the bush and forest off the trails.
Because of you we have learned how to make cozies... how to string up our hammocks... how to cast rainflys over top of our hammocks and other specifics that you have put out through your videos.
You make us laugh with your antics and we commend you for making the world a better place with your videos.
      Don't ever stop!
I know you do a lot of repeats but you are so funny...and We get thrilled when we watch your videos.

As always... Great video Shug. Great minds think alike. I made a how to cozy video last week and afterwards ran into Brian Greens video. I have been editing mine but after seeing how good your is I may shelve it for a while. I like the way you tack the tape down. In the past I was trying to go lighter and use less and less tape. The problem was the tape wouldn't hold as well and would sometimes pop off in storage. I went back to taping more and tacking it down very similar to what you do.

Hey Shug, I have made them before from watching other videos but they were not as fun as yours to watch. They are a great item on a pot especially in the winter. I have a little tip for you...You can fold the tape together and make an upside down "T" Stick the top of the "T" to the top of the cozy. It becomes a light handle that will also fold flat.

    Shugemery,
I stand corrected. The Reflextic Pot cozy will work fine for food hydration of 15 minutes.
When ready to eat, the Reflextic will keep food warmer longer.
Temperature loss is at most 10 degrees and starting from a boil. 200 degree food is plenty warm.
For foods like Mountain House, Reflextic works better formed into an envelope shaped pouch.
Then use Paper clips of Velcro to close the pouch.
Has anyone tried stuffing Mountain house into the Reflextic covered Grease Pot.
If this works we have a double winner.

Unless you hike where I do, where the water boils at about 190F.
