I love Mooncake too ❤ Especially Pandan Mungbean.. inside got Salted egg yolk & Musang King Durian Flavour. Its soo soo good! A bit pricey of course..but worth it 👍👍 U guys should try once in your life! 😋 Ahh... suddenly craving for mooncake laaa.. 1.23am 😫
@@MissAzwaniza they get the cheapest one mooncake..I don't think the taste is good
中秋节快乐 happy mid-autumn festival 🧨🎑
The writing in Chinese is “Lotus bean” . Yes the expensive version is usually with double salty egg yolks. We normally don’t eat the whole one as is very heavy. We normally share and eat it with Chinese tea. There are many different filling inside the moon cakes.
Steve got me cracking up with his comments "Only a Mat Salleh will look for mooncake on Moon Cake Festival Day". Hahaha.. Actually you can get great discounted deals on mooncakes on mooncake day or a few days after. They can keep for quite long so it's a good deal.
Fun fact about segamat,
During the attack of portuguese in malacca, the last bendahara of malacca (bendahara tepok) has retreat to johor. After a long journey, bendahara tepok took a rest at river and drink some water, and then he shout 'segar amat' which means so refreshing. Later on, the placed has been called as segamat..
Cool! Thanks for sharing this story!
Amazing to learn about different cultures in Malaysia. Such a diversified nation, I will love to try the moon cake one of these days :)
You should buy some! Sure they have it in KL. Malls and supermarkets
@@JetLagWarriors would definitely buy👌🏿
Nobody eats like that because it's too heavy🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tips : You can keep taufufah in refrigerator and eat them cold. For me it taste better like caramel pudding. Theres also Gula Melaka version of it.
sounds good! Will try that
I'm about to say the same thing. Yup eat it cold steve
Always the best way to eat taufufah😂😂

Thanks for watching friend!
There are few version of the story. What the seller told is one of it.
The traditional food of the Mid-Autumn Festival is moon cakes. Moon cakes are round, which symbolizes reunion and reflects people's good wishes for family reunion. It is said that eating mooncakes on the Mid-Autumn Festival began in the Yuan Dynasty. At that time, Zhu Yuanzhang led the Han people to resist the tyranny of the Yuan Dynasty and agreed to revolt on August 15th. The message was inserted in the mooncakes by giving each other mooncakes. The custom of eating moon cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival spread among the people. The English spelling is: mooncake (moon cake). Later, Zhu Yuanzhang finally overthrew the Yuan Dynasty and became the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty. Although the people of the Qing Dynasty later entered China, people still celebrated this festival as a symbol of overthrowing foreign rule. According to legend, in ancient china, the emperor had the ritual system to worship the sun in spring and the moon in autumn. Among the folks, there is also a custom of worshipping or offering sacrifices to the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival in August. "August and fifteen months are round, and Mid-Autumn Festival moon cakes are fragrant and sweet." This famous proverb tells the custom of eating moon cakes on the night of Mid-Autumn Festival. Moon cakes were originally used as sacrifices to the moon god. Later, people gradually took the Mid-Autumn Festival to admire the moon and taste moon cakes as a symbol of family reunion, and gradually moon cakes became holiday gifts.
thanks! so interesting!

Really appreciate this!! Thanks for explaining
You don't eat in chunks! You cut it into small quarters , eat slowly and drink with chinese tea! And share with others!

It's crazy you ate the mooncakes like they're normal cakes. We usually cut them up in thin slices and take it with tea. We just had this festival in our preschool and shared one mooncake with 5 to 6 people haha
Ya. Normally cut to 4 ,6 , or 8 pcs n not a whole mooncake. 😄
🙈🙈🙈it was so good...
So good to see you both again. That is a lot to eat a whole piece of mooncake at one go. I eat a small portion at a time coz it is very filling. I love the lotus with seeds or the pandan lotus with seed. Once a year indulgence of sweetness to eat the mooncake. I am thankful for all yr vlogs and life. Happy always.
It definitely was a lot to eat in one go! Wow lol. My eyes were bigger than my stomach
Normally we cut each mooncake into 8 our 16 slices, and each person eats that little bit because it's so sweet and rich...
the hairs at the back of my neck are standing looking at you eat that.... so sweet...

Bro u missed that kacang pool right behind u. It's one of the best food in segamat. U gotta try some!
Darn! Next time!
The correct way is to cut it into 4 or 8 pcs per mooncake and eat it with hot Chinese tea or hot coffee without sugar for dessert etc. The white seeds in the filling is melon kernel seeds or some bakeries use sunflower seeds. At the most one could eat is a quarter per sitting, as it's too rich and contain tons of sugar! Cheers 💞
I do cut them into 4....but eat all 4 anyways🤣so delicious especially the ones with egg yolks...
So rich but so yummy! Eating one in a minute or two was a mistake lol

Thanks for sharing on my hometown. M "stranded" overseas now due to covid situation. Glad to be able to "see" my home.
The story the shopowner told u was on how mooncake originated from. While the story u read about praying for good harvest is about how the Mid Autumn Festival (aka Mooncake festival) originated. You should go read about the myth on Chang-er too 😁 very interesting as well
Thanks!! Stay safe where you are!
Normally we divide it to 8 or 12 slices per mooncake. No one eat one mooncake per sitting. Hahaha 2 or 3 slices with coffee is more than enough
ahhh it was so good!😂🙈
@Baby Kimi eat with small piece serve with tea..The best
Traditionally, back in the old days, the Chinese celebrate the mid autumn festival by gathering together, light up lanterns, composes poems while admiring the full clear moon. There are many myths about the moon and people actually pray to the moon at that time. Moon cakes becomes one of the food served during the festival in later years. These days, it has become a time where the Chinese will gather as a family to have reunion dinner and the rounded moon cake become a symbol of togetherness. Each cake is cut into 8 slices and we Chinese will normally eat it while appreciating a good cup of Chinese tea, mooncakes are not taken as a main dish to fill the stomach! never one cake for each person too😊
Wow! Great comment. Would love to have a celebration like the ones in the old days! Just great
Haha, Segamat town is surrounded by oil palm plantations. Used to be centre for timber collected from the jungles. And now you can go back to Kuantan via muadzam Shah, I presume.
yes, we have never seen so many palm trees!!
My favourite moon cake is the salted egg yolk one. You should try the salted egg yolk one because it's really unique. A cake but with salted egg yolk inside it as filling? How and where you would find such a unique cake?
Interesting! Would love to try that one. Can we get mooncake year round or is it seasonal?
Moon cake 🥮 is seasonable. Start selling around one month prior actual day and get cheaper (or more discount) when closer to actual day. It would be 70%-80% or sometime buy 1 free 1 on actual day because there is no meaning to sell after the day.
@@JetLagWarriors good evening. The mooncake is seasonal, sold once a year, but since Mooncake prices rises so much, that nowadays many make their own Mooncake. I love lotus paste Mooncake with double egg yolk
Steve, just now you found a lotus seed. It's edible. Like nuts. Thank you for highlighting our Autumn Festival. Ok, stay safe always Steve & Ivana. Gbu both!
@@JetLagWarriors eat slowly, with chinese tea. Small bites like when you eat cheesecake. Enjoy the flavours in bits. Don't gobble it down so quick. There are many flavor n variety. They are sweet based.
Ken abroad would ask for less sweet, lol !
steve and ivana, my hometown is Segamat but i'm currently live in selangor. if you like cendol, you can visit cendol masjid segamat, they also have rojak or cendol in front of nirwana market. You should try Satay 50sen, have some great nasi lemak at the train station or eat Mee Rebus at Kg Jawa.
ah all sounds so good!!! Thank you, but we left this morning...
@@JetLagWarriors Ooo.. okay. if you are heading towards bekok tomorrow there will be a weekly night market at the nearby town name Chaah on saturday and morning market on sunday. You should visit Long Suan Kedai Kopi in Chaah. A small town chinese restaurant that are very popular among malay and indian locals.
Yes should try Cendol which is famous at Taman Yayasan. Satay at Pekan Jabi and Segamat famous for its durian.
The primary difference between the expensive and cheap ones are mainly the skillfulness and recipe of the maker as well as the quality of ingredients (like the egg yolk). A lot of cheaper ones, they used premade pastes while expensive ones, the restaurant or bakery will go through the trouble to make their own pastes from raw ingredients hence will have better quality control. Reputable ones usually go for RM 12-15 per mooncake nowadays (usually purchased in a box of 4). Really steep prices hahahaha. But we usually send it as gifts to relatives and clients hence we spend a lot on mooncakes.
oowwwh ok. We will try the expensive one next time!😊
Correctly pointed out, Sue..even SDS just local bakery was still selling at Rm17.90 each yesterday
@@skbeebee8923 wahhh 17.90 is VERY steep. But all these old craftsman skill is difficult to find now. We will still pay to eat them while they are around and hopefully the next generation will find it worthwhile enough to take over these skills and businesses to keep the tradition alive!
In New York one mooncake costs almost USD$10, a box of 4 costs USD$38-40!
@@mafarnsims everything is more costly in US!

Ah! Mooncake would be great with tea or coffee I would imagine 😁
You have to try the expensive one once. From what I see when you held it up close, the paste doesn't look too smooth. And forget about the durian flavour nonsense that some recommended. Stick with the OG and just get one piece (since it's expensive) with lotus paste and salted egg yolk. And I usually share one piece with the wife so I don't know how you finished one each on your own 😂
oh we will get the good expensive OG next time. Thanks!
