In Terengganu, the peranakan as I was told by people around vastly reside at Bandar area which has root since the Ming Dynasty. They are known as Cina Bandar. They live in the area where you and Foodprints had kaya toast for breakfast. Same goes to Cina Kampung Tirok who were descendants of ship crew who landed in 15 and 16th century. They came from different hierarchy background based on ranks in the government. Upon good will and acceptance of the ruler at that time whose admin central deep by the river Terengganu, the good Chinese people stayed. Some decided to intermarry with the Malay indigenous. Chinese historical annals from Kingdom in mainland China written earlier than 10th century has recorded the presence of trading port inland Terengganu. The port was near Kuala Brang or within lake kenyir starting point as trading port historically known as Fo-lo-an.
@@MissPetalaDewi there are many stages of Chinese peranakan migration into Terengganu especially in Kg Tirok. oh I don't know that they came in 18th century. They've must have known my ancestors next village in Pulau Manis. Thank you for sharing your thoughts

To reduce the fishy taste, Steve can use some lime. Just squeeze into the laksa & stir a bit.

Haha...you both gave a good review on all the peranakan kuih...that last piece of kuih ( yellow one ) was known as " huat kuih " to the local Chinese and we always used them for our prayers. Yeast has to be added to the dough...
An interesting phrase from lvana " Orang Cina Bukan Cina" 😂😂
Get one baju kebaya, Ivana. Wear it and show us in one of your vlog before you leave Malaysia.
Thank you!
Oh interesting that the kuih is used for prayers.
And yes! I’m kind of Chinese but not really... haha😂 And hope I can get a kebaya before we leave Malaysia! - Ivana

When you have a legendary Terengganu guide, Alex who is also a Peranakan. What could be better?
Alex is the best guide in Terengganu, and Malaysia!!
Alex is not a Peranakan.
16:11 "I asked is this fermented? They said: Yeast!" Not yes. Haha
hahaha so who is right!??
Yeast is widely used on making bread and rice wine. Fermented taste?? Maybe strong yeast..haha

Cheng Ho is what he is called in Malaysia. His name is actually Zheng He but Malays at that time couldn't pronounce his name properly hence it got changed to Cheng Ho 😁. Just thought that would be useful to know.
ooooh ok. Interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Cheng Ho actually is hokien pronunciation and Zheng He is mandarin pronunciation.
@@yaphengkue3738 True. Very true.
I,as a Malaysian, does not know about these Peranakan descendant esp in Trengganu..wow
Thanks for watching!
@@wafee2001 No lah. Their ancestors landed there in the 18th century.
@@MissPetalaDewi there are many stages of Chinese peranakan migration into Terengganu especially in Kg Tirok. oh I don't know that they came in 18th century. They've must have known my ancestors next village in Pulau Manis. Thank you for sharing your thoughts
@@wafee2001 Sebab saya bertanya mrk sendiri. But I talk in general lah. Keturunan yg dtg semasa zmn ming tu tak dpt dikesan lagi. Di Melaka pun tak ada juga. Tp di satu kws pedalaman di Kelantan, ya ada.
