He would not have lost everything. The trade was a collar, which is a hedge. If yahoo shares went up, he would lose on the hedge but make money on the billion dollars worth of shares he had
JPM does this for all their funds. Fund 1 is the biggest on the market every year. They lose millions on the collar if their portfolio goes up, but the portfolio going up outweighs the loss
