"Roar, lion, roar, and wake the echoes of the Hudson Valley! Fight on to victory evermore, while the sons of Knickerbocker rally 'round Columbia!" Just brilliant.
Columbia has the highest population of student Veterans. We are organized and appreciate the school very much. Overall we are treated EXTREMELY well here.
As a Cornell student I'd say this is not a bad song at all. I think the whole rivalry is pointless anyways. It should be New York vs the entire rest of the ivy league :)
@@charls.87 that’s a little misleading. Columbia was sent back to 18th from 2nd place after it was revealed that certain data presented was inaccurate… their 18th place ranking isn’t accurate and I can just about guarantee that Columbia will find its way into the top 5 next year
@@sstreakzzzz ok that's valid, i just didn't like the sentiment of saying "cornell has nothing on columbia" when they're both really good schools in their own right
@@sstreakzzzz Your "presented inaccurately" was a cute way of saying they falsified data, which their own faculty called them out on. On to the top 5 next year, perhaps, and yes, Columbia is an outstanding institution despite. But that DOESN'T remove this stain. However, to claim as Dan V did that "Columbia is leagues ahead of Cornell" is laughable at best. And I'm saying this not as a Cornell alum.
At Cornell CU students sing this: Roar, Cornell, Roar! And take a jump right into lake Cayuga! Fight on for farmers evermore, While those hayseed apple-knockers learn about, alfalfa seed! And cattle breeds! And Hotel Administration, Roar, Cornell, Roar! And show your parents what a gorge is for!
Obviously you've never been to Ithaca and you're the only one who knows those lyrics. But here's another one popular in Big Red country: We all are drunk, and more than half of us are alcoholics. Fight on for Knickerbocker beer, while all the sons o' bitches rally 'round Columbia, Columbia, if it has hair, we'll eat it raw, eat it raw, our alma mater is a(n) effing whore!
Boy, those were the days....old-school rivalries, school pride, partying because it was the right thing to do, good-natured trash talking, a whole world we lost.
@InspiredByDance99 I believe that the term, "Sons of Knickerbocker", is a reference to the state of New York's origins as a Dutch colony; There was even a book of tall tales, "Knickerbocker's A History of New York", by Washington Irving, published many years ago. I hope this helps.
Alternative lyrics sung at Cornell U: We all smoke dope, and more than half of us are dropping acid. We all were premeds when we came, now we know the value of such courses as philosophy, art history, and the BA degree, oh we all smoke dope, our alma mater takes another toke!
@boobtuber06 As an undergrad who knows Anthony personally and attended the town hall meeting, I can honestly say the incident was seriously overblown by the media. Out of the over 200 in attendance, about 10 jeered him. At least ten times more yelled back for being disrespectful. Anthony released a statement affirming his appreciation for Columbians for being more than willing for hearing his story and providing a friendly environment. I ask you do not antagonize the entire Columbia community.
"As the the sons and daughters of Knickerbocker rally round Columbia.." actually works to sing, and is in harmony with Title IX, and with current P.C. Just sayin, Charlie Tilford Endineering '68, MSAT '72, arrested in Fayerweather, Technology to the Revolution. I see Columbia finally did build the gym at Baker Field, told ya so back then.
The thing that bothers me the most about this song is its geographic inaccuracy. Columbia is a block, a park, and a highway away from the Hudson Shore. But I guess "alma mater on the east side of Broadway" wouldn't have worked as well.
@boobtuber06 As a moderate in an admittedly very liberal campus, I understand where you are coming from. However, my proposition still stands. You cannot encapsulate the entire university with heated comments like yours about CU without wrongly blaming the vast majority, as I can attest to, who respect the views of others.
If I'm not mistaken, Knickerbocker's were the nickname of NY's aristocracy back in the day. I'm from GA though and I don't start until this Fall, so what do I know?
And, of course, your own ridiculous band's version after yet another in an eternal line of brutal football losses to the superior Ivy school in Ithaca: We always lose, lose, lose, by a lot and sometimes by a little. We all were winners at the start, but four years has taught us all the value of just giving up, 'cause we really suck! Why are we even trying? We always lose, lose, lose, but we take solace in our booze.
okay i go to columbia (CC' 20 bby) so u know i'd be here for this but: this is absolutely the shittiest school song ever. there's like, barely a tune here! my little high school had a better song! also note to cornell: are song may stink, but 6 vs. 14 is the sweetest sound out there
Startrek 18, since I don't believe for a second you are a Columbian, are you sure you graduated from a high school? Look carefully, does your diploma say "G.E.D"? Better, stand near AM some rainy night if you can find the campus...maybe lightning will strike!
Your comment is ridiculous. This is by far the BEST song of ALL of the Ivy Leagues and all of the other American universities........and I can say this objectively as a European who has listened to many, many American university songs......and by the way, I am a Columbia University student too, so you definitely do not speak on behalf of all Columbia University students.........if you were a real Columbian, you would be proud of this song. Why on earth would you choose to study at Columbia if you do not like anything to do with Columbia pride (judging on the tone of your comment)........? I also find your grammar very questionable for a CC student........If you really are a CC student, you do NOT deserve to be one!
"Roar, lion, roar, and wake the echoes of the Hudson Valley! Fight on to victory evermore, while the sons of Knickerbocker rally 'round Columbia!"

Without a doubt, one of the best college fight songs... in the Ivy's, it's the best by far!
Maybe you will like this variation too of the song together with the MGM lion & Laurel-Hardy studio.ua-cam.com/users/videok3iYmAbfLl0/edit?o=U
Don’t sleep on 10000 men of Harvard
This sounds better than Harvard’s fight song to be honest.
Davy perhaps?
Heard this song yesterday in Columbia Campus, like it!
You are correct! Knickerbocker was also a fairly popular Dutch surname, and was sometimes used as a synonym for New Yorker
Thanks for the post...Never could remember all the words....
We all are drunk,
and more than half of us are alcoholics!
Fight on for Knickerbocker beer!
There are many fine fight songs, but none possess the harmonic richness of this small yet infinitely compelling opus.
As a Cornell student I'd say this is not a bad song at all. I think the whole rivalry is pointless anyways. It should be New York vs the entire rest of the ivy league :)
lol columbia is leagues ahead of cornell they're not rivaling with cornell
@@danv4295 columbia is ranked lower than cornell on usnews (i like both so i'm neutral but still)

Suck ups

I should have qualified that by; Columbia has the highest Vet population in the Ivy's.
