My name is David and with my dog Lefty we live full time in our converted ambulance RV. I made this change to my 'standard' life and you can too! Like, subscribe and comment - Lefty would appreciate it - he wants the adventures to keep coming!
The Campulance is a 2002 Ford E450 Marque Commando 164 Class III ambulance powered by the Ford 7.3l Powerstroke diesel engine and a 4 speed transmission. Lefty is a 65lb Staffordshire Terrier (best I can tell) that came from the Verona Street Animal Shelter in March 2014 at the age of 9 months. We have been living full time in the campulance since July 2019.

Consider your painful sacrifice as a much needed lesson to all of us. I’m currently moving and I’ve been wearing flip-flops this whole time. I HATE shoes!! But I’m gonna switch to shoes today and potentially prevent a major accident for myself. So thank you for the reality check. My back thanks you! Awww Lefty love is the best love. ❤️ from AZ!

You got this. One year I was wearing flip flops and tripped over a curb. I broke my ankle in 3 places and dislocated it, that's not the bad part yet. I ended up constantly having infections in my ankle and re broke it again. The infections kept going on for a year and a half, they finally had to ampute my right leg below the knee. So see you got this.

Oh David! I am so sorry that you injured your ribs. Dogs are so sensitive! I am not a bit surprised that Lefty was so attentive. My brother suffered from a seizure disorder and he could have gotten a service dog that would have been able to sense when a seizure was starting. In that way, my brother could have inserted a tongue guard before onset. Isn’t that wonderful? I just love doggies! Take care, buddy, and if you don’t start improving in a day or so, get an X-ray…..just to be sure…..🙂

Dang, brother!! I feel your pain! Literally!!! I know that hurts like all get-out, but it could've been much worse. Take it easy and resist the temptation to jump back into the work....I know the feeling!! I was forbidden from lifting more than 10 pounds for most of last year due to several surgeries to fix a compressed nerve and I about went bonkers not being able to do anything. But I don't bounce back as fast as I used to, so I let it ride. :) Getting older does NOT suck....quite the opposite....but things seem to hurt worse and stick around longer after 50!! :P
Thanks for keeping us in the loop, and letting us know what's going on with you. And a big shout out and kudos to the absolute best dog in the world!! Lefty knew you were hurting and he stayed right with you. He's such a sweet boy!
I believe dogs absolutely can tell when we're angry, sad, in pain....several years ago my little spaniel would curl up right next to me on the couch and just sit there....not asleep...just providing comfort with her presence when I was *really* down.

Your right about the ribs there is not much you can do except rest . Give it some time to start the healing process maybe a week or so . Then ease into it because it won’t take much to aggravate it. Your right about dogs they know when your not feeling well . My wife fell ill with lung cancer our dog treated her so gentle . She showed so much love to my wife till she passed . Even as mourned my wife she was my buddy. Dogs understand more then people give credit for. I hoping to be on the road with my dog by the end of the summer I need to finish healing myself. Sorry I went on about myself so long

OW! … OWWWW!! … OWWWWWWW!!! Sorry you did yourself in … twice counting the Cheese Doodles! I haven’t seen Wise snacks since I grew up in New Joisey five decades ago!
As a helpful suggestion from my experience (don’t ask!) you should make a shield panel to cover the step well when you’re working inside. Or make box steps with a bottom panel that allows you to put the box steps upside down on top of the campulance steps, and you could also use them outside when stopped as well as when camping.
I would contribute on Patreon to watch videos of Lefty staring at you as you direct him to do the tasks that will otherwise be delayed while you convalesce! 😁

Echo the recommendation for an X-ray, especially if you have shortness of breath, prolonged sharp jabbing pain. Also great idea to carefully not exceed label maximum 24 hour dosages of both ACETAMINOPHEN & IBUPROFEN. My doctors have said they work on different pain receptors.

I’m so sorry this happened. A not so gentle reminder about safety. We all get lax. Don’t rush healing. Broken ribs need rest and please don’t over do. Wrap your ribs with an elastic wrap. This will remind you to not move quickly. Pulling on injured, knitting bone will cause more injury to the fragile healing area. Your schedule isn’t important (OCD campulance guy 😜). Go with the flow. I’ll be thinking about you.

Had injured ribs from a motorcycle accident. Was in bed many days healing. Eager to return to work before being fully healed, I was getting in my car in that twisted position when you sit in the seat then swing your legs in...I sneezed suddenly, unexpectedly at that moment. Yowza! I let out a painful holler...the ribs had reinjured badly. Had to honk and get help to get back out of the car. Back to bed for many more days. Employer not happy.
Suggestion: if you have to sneeze, bend your knees and support yourself with your hands on your thighs to get the weight off your torso, and don't be twisted. Brace yourself and let the sneeze pressure blow out through your mouth. g/l

OH MY GOSH !! I wouldn't dare scold you, I am so glad it wasn't worse ! Prayers for a steady recovery. Be sure to have a bite of food on your stomach with those meds, Ibuprofen is well known to cause ulceration type breakdown in the GI system. The only thing I could suggest for additional comfort would be possibly wearing large-width ace type binding around your torso to help splint the area. If you could have someone help you wrap this around you (or an abdominal binder) while you stand still in your most painless position, but not wrap it too tightly so as to restrict your breathing. You will know if this is helpful to you or not. I hope it is, and of course, don't stop moving completely so as to avoid getting more stiff. If you have any episodes of sudden onset shortness of breath, definitely get 911 help. Otherwise, and trying not to be funny but, avoid activities that could promote coughing or sneezing ! NO CHEETOES PLEASE, and, I HOPE YOU DITCHED THOSE FLIP FLOPS ! LUV YOU GUYS !

I fell about a month ago and cracked a few ribs also. It took about three weeks before I was back to full function work. I am in the middle of several construction projects as well and had to slow my roll.
As I’m sure you’ve heard, “don’t wrap your ribs” because it causes pneumonia. There is a safe way to do it with athletic tape(purchased at any pharmacy), but you have to know how to do it. And shave any hairy bits first 😁
I’ll look around and see if I can find a good tutorial on “how to.” The gist is to put a line down your spine and one down your sternum. Stretch two or three lengths of tape down and around your side supporting the injured ribs, securing the other end on the piece at your sternum. Best if you have a therapist or athletic trainer there who can help to be sure you have the correct pressure. Not much. Just a very little tug for support.

Okay. There is one on the Cure Tape channel that looks good. A little different than what I explained. It uses Kinesiotape which is good stuff. Just don’t do the circumferential taping or wrapping. That doesn’t allow your rib cage to expand and causes pneumonia.

I hate that I can't see the date of when you published your videos. I was wondering when this happened? And curious how long it too to heal (I mean REALLY heal). I will continue to binge watch to see if you mention it later. But still like to do my own research. How come some channel have the dates and some don't? I guess you have it turned off?!

Lefty is my favorite UA-cam dog... Sandles and Crocs are easy but dangerous, the slightest bit of moisture on a painted surface and down goes Forman. Take it easy and let pain be your guide. "Advil Dual Action" is a Combination of Ibuprofen (inflammation) and Acetaminophen (pain). Don't combine Alcohol and Acetaminophen it's bad for your liver. More Lefty videos as a filler till you heal.

Please just rest and lay down as much as you can thruout the day. You'll get things done in time, doesnt pay to push it. I can empathize, just in May I went thru something similar. There are intracostal muscles surrounding the rib cage that can take up to 6-8 weeks to heal completely (like a rib bone) depending on the severity of injury. First time in years I took something for pain, it was that bad. Yeah coughing hurt, little less when lying on my back flat. Just yesterday the pain flared up again i might have a spinal compression fracture? So if it isnt easing up (mine took 2 weeks) might ask to do an xray?? Also I could bend over fine but to straighten back up to standing, well lets say I grunted a lot LOL. My dogs sensed it too, like Lefty. So sorry this happened to you, hope you feel better soon.

Ouch! Been there a few times with rib injuries, they take their sweet time to heal as I'm sure you know. Sorry that happened David. But you have Dr Lefty by your side for empathy, he's such a sweet boy! Take it easy on mixing ibuprofen and acetaminophen, it doesn't take much to do real damage to your kidneys.
    Wishing you a quick recovery

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is processed by the liver; ibuprofen is processed by rhe kidneys. So you can actually alternate them in order to spread out the impact on either organ and still keep pain levels under control. Just keep track of the permissible intervals. When I had a hip replacement, rather than narcotic drugs Tramadol or Oxycodone, after the first few days the surgeon had me use that alternating protocol with ace & ibu. Ace has a 4-hour interval & ibu has a 6-hour window. So I took the first dose together - then in 4 hrs, 2nd dose of ace - in 2 more hours 2nd dose of Ibu - in 2 more hours, 3rd dose of ace - in 4 more hours, 4th dose of ace + 3rd dose of ibu together. It was very effective for me. I made a time chart so I wouldn't get confused on what to take when.

Geezz that’s horrible. It’s going to suck for awhile so hang in there. At least your at home base and where your at is nice this time of year. I go back to western NY on Lake Erie for summer/fall. I live in Cave Creek Arizona now. By the way it is a little gem and you may find a couple of days of good content there. Cave Creek/Carefree Arizona.
I never felt right wearing flip flops. Even at home or on the beach. Very uncomfortable to me. I worked construction my whole life and some people on the job wear things that just don’t make sense. Eventually it catches up with them. Especially foot wear, gloves and jewelry. I broke my ribs once and it may be uncomfortable doing anything. It may even be scary as if you’re not getting better or are permanent. Unfortunately it’s like a hangover. Time is the fix. Also you have hit a time when your life needs a little tweaking. You are in good shape but you are older and not as flexible. Hang in there and enjoy some NY food.

Ouch thats the worse pain. Not much you can do but ride it out. If nobody told you, A big concern with rib injuries is pneumonia because its hard to deep breath, cough ect… so fluid builds up in lungs since you’re not actively removing it. So from a nurse… go to a CVS or Walgreens and pick up a abdominal binder. Looks like a girdle and makes it easier moving and coughing ect… hold pressure on them ribs while exerting the lungs! Mannn hope you feel better asap ❤️

Rib injuries suck, David!!! Highest thoughts & sincerest prayers for a speedy recovery. No: heavy breathing, no Cheetos, no grapefruit juice- no spicy food- til you are take a full breathe, OK? Ohh man- I'm feeling for you. Gosh, I wish I could do more for you. Can you grab a wrap for your rib cage? It reduces the full motion that causes the harshest pain along with Ibuprophen is all you can do.

There you go , only a nurse would know to say this. Could be the muscles and rib injury, theres going to be a great deal of inflammation even the meds wont get completely down, for awhile anyway. Wrapping the chest isnt always the best thing if it interferes with the breathing, with inflammation. Hope you are all healed!
