    20 Things to do in Chiang Mai, Thailand Travel Guide Video Transcript:
    Today we’re taking you around a city that we’ve been to many times before: Chiang Mai. Located in the heart of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a growing city with laid back vibes, temples sprinkled around every corner, and a foodie scene that will make you drool. This is a destination where you come to unwind and that’s exactly what we did during our month long visit. Now let’s get started with this tour of Chiang Mai (清邁) so you can see what this city is all about:
    One of the best things you can do in Chiang Mai is ditch the map and get lost inside the old city. It’s along the quiet back lanes that you’ll find cozy cafes, terracotta gardens, unvisited temples, and a little flavour of the old Chiang Mai.
    As you’ve probably figured out, we’re not really into nightlife, but Chiang Mai does have lots of bars where you can enjoy a drink or two. We kept things light with a Chang beer.
    And that’s a wrap for our visit to Chiang Mai, Thailand. We hope this video gave you a little taste of what this city is all about. We’ll be the first to tell you that we barely scratched the surface in terms of everything Chiang Mai (清迈) has to offer, but that being said, the goal of our time here was to relax, eat well, see friends, and catch up on work. As always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do, places to visit, and restaurants to eat at, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. Until next time!
    This is part of our Travel in Thailand video series showcasing Thai food, Thai culture and Thai cuisine.

    We have visited Chiang Mai twice. It is our favourite city for the friendly atmosphere, the food and the climate. We scooted up to the mountains after lunch each day to keep cool. As I stepped off the plane on that first visit my exclaimation was, " How beautiful. I could retire ere right now." Perhaps, perhaps , perhaps. After the closeness of Bangkok I was ready to breathe again the fresher air, to take in the restful surrounding greenery.

      It is a popular place to retire! We have some friends in their 60s who like to spend the winters there. We can see the allure. ;)

    I am going to Thailand in October, and found this video very insightful. It was really nice to see you two filming less "touristy" activities and touching on areas and establishments I haven't heard of yet during my year of research. Thank you so much for a different look into Chiang Mai.

    Great video as always guys! I was in Chiang Mai for three weeks in 2015 during Sangkran. It was the best city to be in for the Sangkran festival! I remember jumping in and out of those thangaews during my time there too. I'm planning to visit Chiang Mai this November for the lantern festival. What's your favorite area of Chiang Mai?

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 років тому

      Ahhh, we've never been around for either of those festivals but I bet it's a great time! Our favourite area is inside the moat and around Tha Phae Gate because that's where most of our favourite restaurants are located, but if you're looking for a more trendy area Nimmanhaemin is a popular choice.

    Best pictures of C-M delicacies ever! Of course, I cheered when A announced you were going for Mangoes and Sticky-Rice. I can't believe how much I enjoyed that vicariously!
    Also, Kaow Soi: I miss it so much-- I think you've inspired me to learn how to make it myself. Will check the shelves in Chinatown. I'm already cooking a different Thai curry almost every day, thanks to you! tc!

    • @thelousyllama
      @thelousyllama 7 років тому

      Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos Well egypt by itself is cheap and much cheaper than malaysia. But expect to be ripped off if you are a foreigner in terms of taxi prices etc.. cairo, alexandria, luxor and aswan as well as as abu simbel temples are assessable by bus along the river nile.. Siwa is at the sahara great sand sea and i took a bus there. I also took detours to smaller kharga and dakhla oasis by minibus from luxor..At the end of my journey i took an overnight train from aswan back to cairo to fly back home... but the temples, museums, pyramids, abu simbel statues and oasis were all wonderful... food is pretty basic i guess, ate bread with chicken everywhere i went...

    Swimming Rama is an authentic Thai dish actually! Normally it doesn't come with tofu, it may not be ubiquitous but it's a really good dish -- some restaurants in the U.S. also serve this dish.
    If you guys return to Chiang Mai you should really try Oh Ka Jhu restaurant -- they grow their own organic vegetables and it has became incredibly popular, you can't even find something like this in Bangkok.

      Sompet Market Chiang Mai (not BKK).
      It's actually called Tip's Best Fresh Smoothies on Google Maps (tho I don't remember seeing any name - just the menu over the stall). It's on Moon Muang Rd Soi/Lane 6 very close to the moat and set back a little inside the fruit market.

    when you take the cooking class, do they speak English? sorry I'm ignorant when it comes to exotic countries like this...we narrowed out options to Thailand, Peru, Africa , Spain and New Zealand. We've gone to DR, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Mexico...debating China...

      Thank you! Really cool to hear about your upcoming trip. In terms of keeping your valuables safe in your room staying at reputable places with good review scores is your best bet. If you want to lock things up to your bed, chair, desk, etc I'd recommend looking at pacsafe products on their site under accessories and locks and cables.

      Hi, would you recommend to stay at the elephant park over night?

    • @BrokerBasil
      @BrokerBasil 7 років тому

      If you have the time, I recommend volunteering for a week at ENP (Elephant Nature Park - very ethical) - various options depending on how hard you want to work and how remote you'd like to be. Check out their website. If limited time, then yes, overnight gives you more time than day visit - you'll get more of a feel for the place and have more downtime to watch the elephants but essentially see the same thing, I believe.
      As far as I can see, while not perhaps as bad as some others, they still ride elephants at Patara and I personally do not find this ethically acceptable, given what the elephant have to go through to be so compliant. Plenty fo info online about this - search ""phajaan".
      (Note: I was in CM in Jan/Feb 2017 for ~month also).

    Are street food purchases taxed in Chiang Mai or anywhere in Thailand for that matter? Also, when eating in a restaurant in Thailand do you tip the waiters? I really enjoy your videos. Thanks!

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  7 років тому

      Thanks! Street food you just pay the price that is listed. I'm guessing the food vendors pay taxes in some regard but there definitely isn't a paper-trail. For street food tipping isn't common but in a restaurant especially frequented by foreigners we almost always tip.
