As a follow-up to how to be creative, Turning pro I look at Limitless.
in this video I look at Carl Jungs theory of the unconscious and the film Limitless. I give some strategies to optimize your own brain function. The tips are simple but I would argue they have a big effect on your productivity. They did for me.
Limitless stars Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro. There is no a limitless tv show as well.

Trying to give some productivity tips using the movie Limitless and Jung's theory of the Unconscious. They are simple tips but important and effective I think. Especially writing ideas down so I can revisit them later is important for me. This way I already know my next two projects instead of having to start to think about them now.
strategies start at 05:18

Carry a notebook and meditate; two of the most valuable habits a person should have! Great video!
Or record your thoughts in your phone. Have a recording app or a notes app handy on your screen at all times. Or index cards. I love index cards because I put them on my cork board and start trying to line things up. You know, in a not crazy, strings on the walls way.
Diary of dreams
@@hermeneuticanautica7363 Is that what we are naming the concept, or do you mean a dream journal, where you write down your dreams as soon as you wake up before you forget them? Either is cool, but I do really like the name 'Diary of Dreams'.
@@hermeneuticanautica7363 I'd give my notebook that moniker.
@@Argonnosi could you elaborate more on that?
"We must realize that we are not our brain, instead our brain is something that we have to work with"
Modafinil is the "real life limitless pill" for anyone wondering if it's like in the movies no. However from my personal experience Iv'e been able to focus 8-12 hours without a break( literally not realizing how much time has passed when I checked the time). Mental clarity is unbelievable with it just like in the movie but 50% darker if that makes sense. In summary I would say modafinil makes you go from feeling dumb and bored to someone who knows what needs to be done and and how to do it and with the focus to do it everyday all day.
But I imagine, it will fuck your brain and body up like nobody's business over time
How's that any different than taking Adderall?
there might be no pill like nzt, but there are things you might be doing that will sabotage your abilities. find them and weed them out until all that's left is your magnificent, optimised self. are you stressed? stress inhibits prefrontal cortex abilities. lower stress. are you eating terribly to the point where getting out of bed is difficult? figure it out. eat better and less often until your bed collapses from the energy you exhibit getting out of it. good luck
A world of "positive thinkers" is infinitely more depressing than a world of people too depressed to get out of bed. What the positive thinkers should do is go back to bed and get more sleep.
Cough Modafinil cough cough
The pill exists and it`s called meditation! It changed my life
How do I practice meditation? Please

Can guarentee that 75% of the comments will be about Jordan Peterson as a whole instead of the great video essay that was made and Peterson's words as viewed through the lense of the video topic.
Trevor fr but that’s shit killed me when I herd his voice
Yo Yusuke
Just nonchalantly citing Jordan Peterson's most useful point at the expense of 18 insta-downvotes. You are a mad lad.
so far only 27 dislikes, that ain't that bad..
btw I can't stand Jordan Peterson cause I support Trans-rights, etc.
but I had no problem with this video, it was very good! Why would I downvote a video I like?
Lotoreo The downvote thing was mostly a joke; just meant that I wasn’t expecting a JP reference from this type of video. Also I didn’t realize JP hated trans issues; I just thought he wanted the govt. to stay out of it.
@@samwallaceart288 You have it right, he just wants govt to not mandate what words you must use, be it a trans issue or not, as he has nothing against trans people.
@@lotoreo Jordan Peterson isn't anti-trans rights, the bill was against mandated speech which addressed trans-issues. You dont force people to use certain words by law, it has never happened before in the anglo-phone world and the minute it starts, people don't realize how dangerous it is
@@bennyjames7428 thats not what the law does and legal experts dont predict it will do, but it still is what Jordan Peterson fears it will be used for some day, which is why he rules out any sort of protection for transgender people. this fear is either reasonable or not, and it takes priority over trans rights or not.
his refusal to engage with nuance and constructive criticism is incredibly tiring, like the clichee grumpy conservative grandpa at family dinner, just this one happens to have read a lot of Jung and to have a lot of sympathy for the struggles of young white men.
Reading motivational books back in 1996 gave me the courage to become the person that I am today. I just needed that part that said that things were going to be fine and just do things. I had many Ideas to bring into reality. After that I brought everything out of my mind.
To be honest, I've felt improved productivity and self control when I have an approaching deadline and am in pressure. I realize that inspiration is within me but that state of mind is not triggered often.
Always great videos. It's a strange thing, I think the Greeks called it the "muse"; because they thought it was divine when you got inspiration. How much you can know about a subject but effectively not know you knew about it, until there is a moment that asks of you to reflect upon it. Sort of like how people say "you are what you eat" or "it takes a village to raise a child". You in some deeper level are what you unconsciously record, even if you don't know it.
Hey bud I watched this video back in January 2021 and several times more over the intervening years. It's my favourite piece of yours. As a young businessman with adhd I found this video extremely helpful and indelibly true. I follow the maxim you outline at the end and it truly has helped me achieve success thank you so much keep up you a grade work friend.
It is so rare to come across content like this. I dont think it really impacts most people as deeply as it should. The reason being, in my opinion, we are basically in our infancy emotionally speaking as a society. This really reminds me of the work of John Ruskan...he synthesizes Eastern and Western Philosophy/psychology. Very well done and thank you! ✋
¡Help!
Please. I speak Spanish and I do not speak English very much. I have a hard time understanding it orally, but I understand much more at the reader level. Would anyone be so kind as to subtitle this video in its original language to translate words that it does not understand at least?
The content of the video for what little I understand seems valuable to me and I want to be able to fully understand it.
:(
Hey man, we both don't speak spanish but there is a good chance that in the next month if it gets some views someone will add subtitles in Spanish. Hope you can watch it. We are Dutch so my english is not without accent.
@@storytellers1 if you have a script, I can translate it. :)
¡Here other spanish viewer! please someone translate it.
Storytellers it seems like dude would be okay to have English subs so he could translate what he doesn't understand. idk if it's ok for u to share the script but I think it would help him
It's in English Subtitles, you can use google translate or something like it to translate the english subtitles.
Wow, just after I was considering taking some aspirin pills.
Quite a leap between Aspirin and NZT, my friend.
You know what happens when you use 100% of your brain? A seizure.
Underappreciated comment.
The soundtrack to this film by Paul Leonard-Morgan is amazing!
I cannot believe you put rr martin the the same class as tolkien...aside from that great vid! :)
great video man🙌
Great video, this feel more personal, like translating the ideas that molded the movie into a clear message. I'll save it for any time I need an inspirational boost.
Keep it cool!
This film plays the fantasy every adult on this wants. Fulfilling goals without limits.
Awakening is the pill !
Hey Storytellers. You're good. If you allow me to judge: try to get better sound editing (the Tom Bilyeu part was too loud) and work on intonation, you sound kinda monotonic.
Great work tho :-)
PD:
What is the name of the song that plays in the background in the first half of the video?
I could be wrong but I think it's the main theme from the movie. Can't remember it's name though
@@Bacbi
thanks dude.
i found it. His name is "Limitless Soundtrack - Happy Pills"
Wonderful, thank you, will take these tips into action!
I love this movie "Limitless" even though the main protag is very selfish, but hey we all would be if we had that pill. With that being said, sometimes I feel truly limitless. It's a feeling that I've been pursuing since I first became a born again Christian. Like, right now, I feel my mind overflowing with ideas that I want to act upon. There is little time though. We all should first find our purpose, I found mine.
Powerful video
Love your accent.
Really
its funny that you show a clip from Sherlok in this - i havent watched that show but i have watched Elementary and on several occasions its mentioned that its a painful existance to live like he does - to not be able to turn it off and have a break and even though he is often right, the fact that hes right hasnt always been in his favour or go the way he wanted it to - and he became addicted to drugs in an attempt to be better because the drugs enhanced his abilities - so are we really missing out?
This video is just a piece of art
This myth was / is exploited big-time by motivational speakers and self-help gurus
This is wonderful . thank you
Just two words... Thank you!
There is such a pill. It’s called a adderall 😂
Thought provoking and well crafted. Your ideas came through really well for me, especially considering the distraction of Bradley Cooper’s hawtness.
Has anyone read the book "The dark fields" that the film was based on?
A beautiful and practical video~
If you don't explore your shadow self, the unarticulated/subliminal ideas of your psyche will guide you to a place you wouldn't have wanted to be at and you will call it fate.

06:40 actually this is not a rule. David Bowie didn't own a record collection and did his best not to listen to other music for fear of being unduly influenced. I also have a friend who writes music scores for movies and television productions and he has the same philosophy.
Mind Blowing!
Why make this video unavailable in the US?
Only thing substance I know is lsd if used correctly. But nothing compared to the limitless pill.
I’m glad I don’t have access to my complete memory library at any given time. Because if I did I’d probably hate myself a lot more.
In the movie Lucy when the woman uses 100% of her brain, she turns into a black blob and poops out a USB...kinda like that?
The closest I ever came is taking LSD but of course that has the side effect of visual hallucinations and extreme fatigue afterwards so it's not a viable solution

Not true even Albert Einstein had a cluttered desk.
Zaxor Von Skyler I think there’s more to that. It depends on what you’re doing.
To start, clean your works station, so you can clutter it with work. Disorganization inspires, while a neat station promotes productivity.
Really good video
• organize environment • note down hunches/ideas • meditation. What did you got out of this video
not yet done watching, but i had to repeat that part where i thought i accidentally heard JBP hahaha

Excellent video man, on another note the TV show was amazing
I wish the TV show was still around.
0:57 you should atleast give credit to Jordan Peterson's lecture from where you have taken that line. Seems you've taken it from one in the biblical series.
Now I remember again Limitless TV show cancelled... Whyy

More Jordan Peterson please! He’s a brilliant man.
Tyler Granato no
I think Storyteller has understood something that Jordan Peterson may have forgotten;
Jordan Peterson is a psychologist.
And only his opinions on psychology (as the one quoted here) should be considered worth more than the average opinion.
Meanwhile Jordan Peterson makes commentary on political history, economics and even f*cking climate change and somehow people think it's relevant.
I'd have significantly more respect for the man if he were to stick to his own fields of expertise.

Imagine unsubbing from a creator who makes videos on storytelling through movies and shows because they like a psychologist you don't. Grow up.
@@Roiben100
A) He's a clinical psychologist that's worked outside of academia. You can't even get basic information about him correct.
B) Are you going to provide examples for claims against him, like his apparent racism and homophobia? I doubt you will because you most likely can't.
C) Jordan Peterson isn't the best thing since sliced bread, but unsubbing from a creator because they like a rather centrist and unprovoking psychologist you don't is something a child would do.

I hate that the English movies channels only give us some superhero or monster movies in India
This movie is very forgettable. I can't think of the plot at this point.
can we please stop citing peterson&jung as legitimate scientific sources?
like, there is nothing wrong about citing petersons papers or a (revised!) version of jungs books, but just using some of their popular-science ideas as a legitimate source leads to nowhere
@John Mardirosian scientifical papers, published in peer-reviewed and publically accepted journals - with an actual quote like
Buckels, E. E., Trapnell, P. D., & Paulhus, D. L. (2014). Trolls just want to have fun. Personality and individual Differences, 67, 97-102.
This is awful. This is missing an answer to the most obvious question of "Why?". Why are we supposed to value the most optimised mind and body and open up "creativity". It goes so far as to say we should mingle and mix with more and different people to boost our unconscious mind. They are humans and maybe they matter more than to be used to aid some toxic masculinity. If you want to become better at writing why not practise? What is This superfluous Peterson Jung crap about harnessing potential? Why not just take it easy?
If you don't know the reason "why" we should be more productive, if you see ambition and harnessing our full potential for creativity as some sort of toxic male behavior, this video really wouldn't mean anything to you my friend. Understand that, for some of us, living a simple life, a day at a time, "taking it easy" would be a fate worse than death.
You had me until you quoted Peterson
"as said by Jordan Peterson," oh no
I’d much rather be consciously creative than unconscious. Does he mean subconscious? Because that’s totally different. Being consciously creative means you can tap into it whenever you want.

The closest thing to that limitless pill I've found is LSD (jt tends to feel as though I'm overclocking my brain). As a music producer, I've made my best pieces while on low doses of acid (20-40ug, as higher doses tend to make my brain go so fast, that my hands can't keep up with making the music and I therefore beocme less productive), especially when combined with some sativa marijuana. Really allows me to get deep into a flow state. I often write ideas down, and review them the next day, and write about those ideas whatever I can remember. This helps to integrate the vision I often get from LSD and good weed into my daily life. Also, make sure you are hydrated and are getting enough omega 3's and enough sleep, as that will help keep your brain healthy and clear, and omega 3's are important for neurogenesis, the creation of new braincells. Also exercising makes you smarter, and more able to learn. When smoking weed, be sure to also use CBD as there is some evidence that CBD reduces THC's possible negative effect memory function. Stay safe and test your drugs, if you decide take psychedelics. Also, excellent video. One of the best youtube videos I've watched in a while, and that says a lot cause I watch a lot of good shit.
