I’ve watched all his lectures, read his books, future authoring program, and consumed any content I can on JP and his family… He opened the doors to other psychologists and philosophy in general..
I was a young and dumb kid at 23 years old. All I knew was drug dealing, “hustling” to get by. I was deep in the hedonistic lifestyle and honestly I saw no out. That was until he became my father in spirit, told me what I should’ve been told growing up with the absence of my own father. Take responsibility, and find what’s meaningful.
Ladies and Gents, it starts small and before you know it everything starts falling into place. It’s extremely taxing on the mind at first, but trust me it gets better the more days you act like today matters.
4 years sober, have a future lined up, I know what I want and how to get it, I know how to control my emotions in emotional situations, I reworked all my memories and extracted what needed to be taught to me. I could go on and on.
Thanks JP, you’ll never know you saved my life directly but thank you for allowing me to find myself in a deep thoughtful manner.

@@imallergictobullets I’m not sure. I believe if you instill those virtues and characteristics at a young age to become an individual and be able to hold yourself accountable, you don’t need to go through the self inflicted darkness.
I needed it, personally, it’s shaped me into who I am, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.. so in short I believe if you know how to work thru the dark when you enter it, you’ll be okay. Everyone’s story is so different - you know?

@@imallergictobullets I am 18 years old, and if you ask me my father was an amazing father figure and im thankful for that, but the more i listen and read about JP the more i realize he talks about responsibilities and destiny the same way my father had done. I think you as a parent should listen to what he says carefully and implement his teachings on your children, and it would also be good to show your kids great rolemodels like JP. Im still young so i could be wrong, but JP changed my life recently and I am working everyday to become something great!

Dr Peterson, I actually enjoy these q and a's more than your lectures.. you seem so relaxed, talking freely without overthinking, adding jokes and side notes and finally hitting the point home. Maybe it's Tammy's presence that calms you. Whatever it is, your sense of humour is definitely coming out more, and you're speaking openly, freely, as if you have nothing to lose and everything to share.

I think that his most recent difficulties have more to do with alleged unprofessional behavior than it does criticism of the government per se, doesn't it? I mean, "Poor people eat too much food" or "climate doesn't exist" aren't direct critiques of any government, are they?
I lost interest in what he is saying when I checked out his assertion that "lack of serotonin is the cause of depression"; it turns out there is no scientific basis for that whatsoever.
Then I looked into him further only to discover his claims, "I am an evolutionary biologist," and "I am a neuroscientist" to both be false: he's always only had a doctorate in cognitive psychology.
I've always intensely disliked and mistrusted paucity of intellectual integrity...

The thing is that most of what Dr. Peterson talks about/teaches is essential life knowledge. Of course, the proper interpretation of this statement depends on your understanding of the meaning of the word "essential." If you are discussing something essential to whatever subject you are in fact discussing the foundational aspects of the subject.

I loved what his wife shared about just listening. I know I’m not a good listener but didn’t know how to improve. Now I realize, it needs to start by me just keeping my damn mouth shut! To give context, not excuses, I’m a recovered addict and have been clean since 2013. I came up in NA where to keep what you have you have to give it away, so I automatically always share my side to everyone when I’m tryin to help. I’ve been able to build my life back and have all the “things” that we give away in addiction, and do believe hell if I can do it anybody can, and people always looked at me as the worse case scenario so if I can explain it to someone then surely that’ll help them. I’m realizing now, because I just do life now, not NA, that I’m probably not helping as much as I thought and it may come across as touting. I need to shut up more and listen. Also the end where he talks about drinking was funny lol. Last thing, I’ve been saying I need to buy his book 12 rules. I’ve never been a reader, so I just keep sayin I need to buy the book, and then don’t. What’s the worse that can happen? I buy the book and don’t read it? Will the sky fall if that happens? I need to get better at making simple decisions instead of thinking “what if”. Even if I read one chapter and not pick it up again for a yr, so what! I said how I got all the “things” back. For the past 2 yrs I’ve just not moved out of fear and thinking that ok I got to this point I’ve always wanted now I’m supposed to feel happy. Unfortunately I’ve felt like “ok, so this is it? This is what normal people feel like?” Since finding JP, I’ve realized the true happiness comes from the journey and continuing to find ways to improve or learn something, and I’ve started finally living!

It’s not NA. Good for you for working on it, but one-upsmanship isn’t concern for others. Steps four and five force self-examination while steps eight and nine force accountability. Tolerance and withdrawal are side effects, not a disease. 12 Step recovery has to fabricate a model of chronicity for people who want to pretend vilifying the substance or behavior of choice and substituting compulsive meeting attendance and group approval isn’t the easier softer way. But compulsions can’t be treated directly. Only finding and resolving corresponding obsessions (unconscious anxieties) relieves compulsivity. Your confusion is understandable though since the predatorily narcissistic cult that uses your own narcissistic pathology against you (by telling you it’s something else entirely and only knocking the rough edges off as long as you go back for the rest of your life) brainwashes people shallow enough to believe it they’re happy joyous and free. That shit does a lot of harm to the self-esteem of people for whom it does not work because we are not narcissistic though (which, of course works all the better for the peanut gallery who say “Well you just must not want it badly enough” or some bullshit like that to the steady stream of “newcomers“ upon whose failures their smug petty pussyass egos are propped-up).

That's a tricky one mainly because while imagination and the unconscious mind can overlap in certain ways, they represent different aspects of mental activity. Imagination is a conscious and voluntary process, while the unconscious mind operates without conscious control. Imagination is the faculty of the mind that allows us to form mental images, ideas, and concepts that are not present in our current sensory experience. It involves conscious and deliberate mental activity, often used for creative and problem-solving purposes. Generally great take JBP, he's strong on these types of topics.

The unconscious mind is where your paradigm resides your paradigm determines your imagination your imagination is a Devine mind that creates your future. If your subconscious is in a negative paradigm you will create situations through your imagination to bring you anxiety fear and ultimately orient your life in a cycle of pain. If the unconscious mind is oriented in a paradigm of prosperity your imagination starts imagining positive scenarios which intern create a positive feeling which magnetizes and restructuring the universe to fit that paradigm. Imagination is essentially a Devine mind picking up on the multi-verses infinite possibilities and aligning with that which corresponds to your unconscious mind. Neville Goddard an entire lecture on it and the metaphysical substance in both spirituality and quantum physics in relation to the two is fascinating. I’d recommend Neville Goddard or Bob Proctor if anyone is interested. On this particular topic

The transformation is to take place here on earth. Your soul should be clear. Everyone should be walking the straight path here.
Now, we still have problems with the flesh, severely. However, it is written that when the time comes the saints will shed their corrupted bodies and be given incorruptible, glorified bodies. In that case, when properly done, you pair a clear, clean heart and mind with a clean, incorruptible body. That is whole perfection. Then, we are ready to enter into Heaven. Decide to let yourself off the hook for just one day, or just one hour. It is hard to force ourselves into such a simple situation, I know. But at this point, you have nothing to lose but a day or an hour of misery, right? So push yourself to just forget all the stuff you usually tell yourself. If you feel yourself creeping into that old habit, just stop & let it go for now. I am no pro & am not trying to tell you, a stranger, what to do…but I am a human with the ability to recognize that you have posted the comment because you want more than you believe you are right now. Fatigue can sometimes be a heavy burden that swallows up our energy. Waking ourselves up requires us to throw a wrench in our reg habits…like an alarm clock for our soul, if you will. Faith is not only something for religious people. It is a trust we all must work at, in many parts of our lives. Maybe you can try letting go of the weights you carry every day, for just the one day or one hour, and try carrying some true & honest faith that you can have the life you want with your family because you are a man of value, and that is not a small thing. Just think of how good you will feel for that one day, or one hour…how much lighter & free you will be. The only thing needed to get there is to try forgiving yourself your self imposed criticisms for the day, or the hour… at this point, it can’t hurt to give it a try, right?! One last little tidbit that may seem silly but has incredibly positive outcomes by those who do it… go stand in front of a mirror and smile. Physically force your face into a smile…over & over. Don’t critique your looks or your face…simply smile. Force yourself to do that every time you see a mirror, make it a habit. It will change your mood & the mood of those you encounter the more you do it. I hope you read this & give yourself the chance to try these two things. Sometimes it is just a little recognition that can turn life around…point us in a better direction. I recognize your fatigue and hope you know there is a better direction you can go in. Smile, dear stranger, it is worth it.

I'm more accustomed to the cold than the heat having been raised in Northern Montana and still prefer the cold climates. The first time I experienced -40 was interesting and put on my heavier parka for that one, and when I got to experience -60F I got to know what it is like to have my fingers nearly freeze inside the heaviest Carhartt gloves I could buy. You were blessed enough to get inspired and then your imagination is the land where the inspiration will be able to bare fruit. I think is where artists create their own worlds, their fantasies and stories. I also like to think that when you really like na artist work or when an artist gets to be considered one of the greats, its because he or she was able to build a really good bridge between this world (their imagination) and the outside world. And this is a really difficult thing to build when its done really well. Thats at least part of the reason whe get mesmerized. Part of us just dont believe that that was actually possible. Imagination presents to the awareness the totality of its experience as it associates memory fragments in a continuous attempt to maintain contextualization. It could be conceived of as the evanescent body of the spirit. A clear, unperturbed imagination will show the spirit's leading. Self-interest will distort and perturb the imagination with its own leadings, swamping the delicate impressions of the spirit's leadings. The an early complexification of awareness of the body, the so-called "subconscious/unconscious mind", responds to the imagination the same as it does reality. Everything complexifies, creating stratifications, or layers, so we conceive of an unconscious, a subconscious, and a conscious, then a superconscious, mind, in order of greater complexification. Then we assign different properties to these different categories, levels, or degrees, of the same thing, mind, ostensibly to improve our understanding of it. It's the "take it apart to find out how it was put together" approach to knowledge that science fosters. However, this approach presumes each person to be in possession of a "mind"--a highly constraining presumption. The "mind" is not the sort of object with which science, by its nature, is prepared to deal. But that's all science has to work with, so it produces simplistic mechanistic, materialistic results when subjecting "mind" to its lauded "method". The essential experience of "awareness" is the eternal NOW, the ever-processing current moment. By our "intention" and "attention" orchestrated by "the awareness" we perpetually and at high speed associate and cross-correlate associations in a flurry of contextualization. This is done to support the high-level complexes, like specific task-oriented complexes, or identity complexes, like "ego" and "self".
