      I agree for the time being. The LS has been around for far longer than the Coyote and I think that helps the LS with the 'bang for the buck' aspect. Spending 1/3 of available cash for a used Coyote block possibly took up a lot of what 'could have been'. Only time will tell how much potential the Coyote has.

      I’ve heard from a lot of people that the ls was designed by Ford someone told me it was originally designed for Jack roush but they dropped it for the modular design if that’s true it’s a Ford design and Chevy is just taking credit for it I’m also a Ford guy but I’m starting to see Ford durability in the ls engine you look at all the other Chevy engines they suck they are very poorly built

    The Ford 5L is a good motor if you have the money and room but from a practical point of view the LS wins hands down. I'm a builder and have done a half dozen LS engines for friends dropping them into various vehicles, mostly swaps and there are literally millions of them out there. When you can go to the junk yard for $500 and buy a good used engine with harness, clean it up, bolt in a few go fast goodies for another $500, do a harness upgrade, reflash and install a high pressure fuel pump and Corvette fuel filter/regulator for another $500, exhaust, mounts, cooling and misc. for $500, you've swapped in a modern, fuel injected, 350-400 hp engine with tons of performance and driveability for less than $2500 all in and all fun. You can't buy a Coyote for less than 5 Grand that I've seen and I have a friend that did swap one into a '67 Mustang, major problems with size and the expense involved. A good motor just not for the masses ..............

    • @85MasterV
      @85MasterV 7 років тому +15

      It's easy to build a junkyard SBF Windsor for $2500, why people pay $8k for an LS crate engine is still retarded.. seems like its mostly kids that don't know how to build anything

    HP/CI is a stupid measurement. Consider that the coyote will be running at a higher rpm, flowing more air, when it makes it's peak power in comparison to the slower turning LS. If you're flowing more air, you're also burning more fuel. Even though the Coyote has a smaller displacement, it is likely using that displacement less efficiently than the LS. If you really want to compare volumetric efficiency, compare. HP/(CI*RPM) not HP/CI. A more useful measurement is which makes more horsepower per lb? I could put a 19L cummins in my car that makes 700hp, but it wouldn't do me any good since it weighs 2 tons.

      And, yeah, in general, domestic stuff, especially the old stuff, costs less dollar for horsepower. But just like a lot of import guys bragging about horsepower per liter, at the end of the day, an engine doesn't care. It also don't care what name is on the valve cover or how much money you spent making a shit-zillion horsepower, it just want's to go fast, right? That's what it's all about.

    The ls3 is an old engine, the coyote fairly new. I'm glad ford has something to be proud of, I love the coyote motor too.it gets work done! I would hope the coyote wins, and I own a ls3. Artchred tape measure size. The LS3 has quite a bit more displacement. What is it...376 cubic inches or so?? No question the LS3 will put down more power. The old saying still stands...no replacement for displacement”. However I have a F150 truck with the 5.0 coyote that puts down 380lbs of torque at 4200rpm STOCK. I find it odd they increased the torque by 10-15 pounds over stock with 10k dollars LOL. I’m no Ford fan boy...drove Chevy my entire life and my F150 is my first Ford...still got my Silverado. But something stinks about their final results. They made good torque improvement in the LS ( no surprise) but only 15 more pounds on the Ford ????

    • @177SCmaro
      @177SCmaro 6 років тому +1

      JohnnyRebKy
      Don't judge the 5.0 too harshly. You have to keep in mind it's a modern, high flow, high efficiency 4 valve engine out of the box. That means it's difficult to improve on.
      At 380lb/ft of torque from just 5L that's 78lb/ft per liter.
      The LS3 at 425lb/ft of torque from 6.2L is 68.6lb/ft per liter.
      If the 5.0 was as large as the LS3 it would be making over 480lb/ft of torque out of the box, before any improvement.

    Not even sure how this is a budget build. A budget build would be grabbing to comparable made blocks from the scrap yard and going from there. Then you have comparable price and comparison, year by year. Do a part 2 with the fair comparison of Fords 4.6L V8 Modular engine. It's produced at similar volume numbers providing a more fair comparison all the way around. Besides Motor trend did something like that and Ford won.

It's one of the most widely used engines, if not the most widely used engine in swaps, it weighs little more than an inline 6, size wise is as compact as a inline4 turbo motor, and has renowned and proven durability. If it wasn't such a nice engine you think people would still be swapping them after 20 years? Now let's see how many Nissan 2.5l engines are getting swapped into cars 20 years from now.

      +angelo howard Who cares what it displaces. The only measure of a performance engine is power, reliability, weight, cost and physical size. One engine is a stuck as a high winding DOHC with a limited displacement, the other is a large displacement engine stuck with two valves and push rods.
      Frankly, inside that budget I don't know why the LS isn't at least 7 liters if they really want to make the coyote pay for having a limited displacement.

    • @andrewfarrell4312
      @andrewfarrell4312 5 років тому

      The 5.0 Ford v/s 6.2 Chevy is absolutely fair,in my opinion. An engine is basically a large air pump. The 6.2 may have a larger displacement, but it is an OHV/pushrod engine. The amount of air &fuel it can move efficiently is limited by the RPM range,and only having 2 valves per cylinder. The Ford can turn alot more Rpms and is much more efficient throughout the rpm range,especially tword the top end, due to the dohc/4valve design.
      That being said, I am a Chevrolet man,through and through. Always have been,and probably,always will. But the coyote is one hell of an engine. It makes an impressive amount of power,is versatile, and efficient. But when it comes to building a hod rod,resto mod, or any kind of engine swap, the LS will always be the more practical option. You can build the LS,and slap on some sort of forced induction or nitrous,and still have a smaller budget,and easier build

      Mazzanti Evantra's variant, 701 hp at 6600 rpm and a maximum torque of 848 Nm at 4500 rpm, woe that's overkill, and still has the 11:1 compression ratio and still more room to improve. Smaller, lighter, more torque, lower CoG, better power band and still more room for improvement through aftermarket parts. I'll warn you not to argue because I can literally write a research paper on this subject and already have valid evidence proof, sources for this argument readily bookmarked.

    The coyote will get better hp/liter, even though that metric is useless. LS3 will make more torque until it's under 3000 RPM. The cam in the LS3 is going to bleed compression, while the coyote has VVT, however they both have reasonable cam selections for their intended purposes. As for peak power, it's anybody's guess. Probably coyote. It has a bigger flow integral on those heads. My personal preference is the LS3, albeit I'd run the GMPP ASA cam instead of the one in this video, and because it's non VVT, therefore less like to malfunction.

      Joe Robertson Used but machined = REFURBISHED... Not new... FUCKTARD. Modified and New do NOT have the same definition. Do they not teach that sort of shit where you live.
      There's no material added to replace what was removed during the machining process, so now components aren't the same size, shape, thickness etc. compared to how they were designed and stresses act different accordingly.

    • @MenofValueSpeaks
      @MenofValueSpeaks 8 років тому

      2 valve vs 4 valves, pushrod vs DOHC, the coyote has the superior more advanced design. So it does make sense to compare the 2. and the machined block has 2 extra cubes. That helps with power, not much but definitely won't put it below stock.

    • @scottthompson292
      @scottthompson292 8 років тому +3

      Stephen Ayeni I hope this doesn't come across too aggro (I have a tendency to seem angry when I'm not) but the more efficient heads of the coyote can still stuff only so much air into the cylinders. All that technology won't put 25% more air in so how is it a fair comparison to put the coyote against a motor that has 25% more displacement? As you can probably guess it takes about 145 cubes for the LS3 to overcome the superior design of the coyote. Notice how they didn't go for the LS2 even though it has the same displacement as the LS3?
      My biggest issue is how the coyote was handicapped with a piss poor budget. The LS engines have been around for ages and has a massive aftermarket following so there's loads of cheap parts on offer. Compare this to the relatively new coyote, and there's not as many aftermarket options as yet (more are coming...) Add to this the fact you need 2x more valves and springs, 4x more camshafts, a much longer timing belt with loads more pulleys etc. and $10k evaporates rather fast. At the end of the day I can see no reason to blow $10k on rebuilding these motors when there are crate motors out there for far less money.

      Just goes to show how uneducated you are...like the rest of these LS GM Bag suckers . The Coyote out powers the LS Easy with boost. They wasted all that money on rebuilding the Coyote when they could have just boosted it! Your LS POS needs all the Forged internals to be boosted...LOSS goes to GM. You see the Coyote already had all the forged internals from the factory, they designed this test to make sure the Coyote lost. Rebuilt the Coyote where it never needed it! The truck block is not an advantage...it makes 70 HP less from the factory...again rigged test!!!! Now lets talk Windsor 351...The real competitor to the LS cause the LS was designed by duplicating what the Windsor is. Even port Spacing, Timing, main caps and firing order. LOSS = GM. cant do shit without stealing it from another manufacturer!

    Where'd they get a new LS3 block for $1400? CNC-ported LS3 heads are $1500 not $1200. Could've bought a brand new 5.0 block for $1300. How many other parts prices are incorrect? 3.640 pistons for the Coyote would've been a special order if you stuck with Manley. Ross makes those forged pistons for $100 less. K-1 makes a billet 4340 rod for the Coyote for $100 less than the Manley rods. WHY WOULD YA'LL UPGRADE THE FUEL RAILS ON BOTH OF THESE ENGINES AND NOT THE INJECTORS? Whoever chose these parts combinations have NO CLUE what they are doing for either platform. LS and the Coyote are great with plenty of aftermarket support. Clearly you have to do some homework instead of flip through a catalog. Try again guys but try harder.

    Would it be possible for chevy vs ford to ever use similar engines or even engines without a 50ci difference? How long are we going to compare 350ci chevys and ford 302s? Ford has a 351, and a fuel injected version and a HO version that was in lightening pick ups.
    How cheap is a 351 / 400 ? or stroke the 351 easy street monster for cheap.
    Or stroke a push rod 302? Would still be undersized but probably still about even and cheaper.
    or use ford motorsports 363 block vs the LSx.

    Mustang GT 2018 makes the 460HP...just boost it in less than a day for 5-7,000 and your in the 8-1000HP world!!! Not with any stock LS and weeks of work. That's the reality...this test is designed around people who know nothing about the Coyote! MMR with the Factory ported Heads and the 351X Block make close to 4000HP and run in Pro Mod. No one else competes in Pro Mod with factory anything. The other thing is they are the smallest cube engine of all cars in Pro Mod! The truck block is a disadvantage...just boost it for 5-7000 grand and your into 800+ HP. It never needed to be rebuilt, it had all premium internals already from Ford. Rods and Crank Forged, Pistons are great. factory Mustangs and trucks are boosted and making that HP all over the country. LS is a waste of money!!!
