Memorizing rule statements is a critical component of the essay portion of the bar exam. Unlike the multiple-choice section of the bar exam, essays require examinees to state rules purely from memory. There is no way around it - you have to memorize rules to pass the bar exam.
Unfortunately, with thousands of pages of textbooks and hundreds of hours of lecture to get through in a typical 8-week commercial bar prep program, there is not much time available to memorize rule statements.
So, this begs the question: with limited time and a massive amount of material - how do you memorize all the law necessary to pass bar exam essays?
First, you have to dispel any notion that you are going to try and memorize everything. There is simply too much testable material to try and memorize every detail of every law. You have to prioritize your memorization in a meaningful way by focusing on the highest-yielding rules first and working your way down.

Great Idea! It is less overwhelming.
Who's watching in 2024? Are these guys still around? Today, someone's math says, there are about 1,500 rules. He says 500. Regardless, it's a lot. The great news, it's limited. Happy learning, Bar 🍸 Preppers! Thanks for the info, Michael!

Thank you so much for this video!
Hi! I'm taking the July 2018 Bar in California. Been watching your videos in between study breaks. Really appreciate the tips you provide in your videos. Will definitely try the memorize 9 rules a day!
Thank you! You should be in great shape so long as you focus your memorization of the law on the most tested and highest yielding rules first. Good luck!
Will do, just downloaded your Top 120 List! It is a great resource. Do you have a full list for a breakdown of the 500+ rules tested? I checked out the website but didn't find it. I have purchased similar resources to your attack outline, flashcards, and quicksheets already. But your top 120 list resource, videos, and tips are very informative. Please let me know how I can download an extended version of the 120 list, I am very interested in using it as a tool to practice the memorizing 9 rules of law per day idea. Thank you!
@@komaljeetkaur7199 --So did you pass ?
Nope the MBEs screwed everyone over. I practiced using Kalpan, Barbri, Emmanuel, and NCBE mbe questions 50+ everyday and they were nothing like the questions on the Bar MBEs. They had mortgages and random wills questions thrown in. Nothing like what commercial bar prep courses used. I had thought the essay would be the hardest part and learning all the rules but the worse part was the mbes especially since they were twisted with what they chose to test particular in regards to the Real Property section. Oh well just have to keep trying until we pass its not the end of the world life goes on. I know I had the best resources, followed my study plans to a T and at the end of the day I learned much more than I started with. So next time I will build on that and maybe use a tutor for the mbes.
@@komaljeetkaur7199 I am sorry to hear that .My son also took it and did not pas ,he is getting ready to take it again in Feb. I tried to convince him to get a tutor or a class ,but he does not want too , He is still using barbri , he got 1363 on mbe and 1392.8005 on scale written and 417.5 on raw written. for a total of 1377.9003 total . Was this your first time?
Great video, PLEASE HELP....

Do you have an outline for MBE?
Is that free 120 rule outline still available?
Where can I find the 200 page outline with all 500 top questions on the website? I've scoured and I can't find anything. I'm willing to purchase it, I just don't see it.

I think I lived in that apartment in 1997
It feels disingenuous to claim you know what’s been tested over the last 25 years with your 500 rules… there’s so little UBE material released
