  • Come along for Day 5 of 170 miles in 7 days of kayak camping perfection on the Greenbrier River in West Virginia. We launch in Durbin, WV and continue our journey to Hinton WV. Day 5 brought some changes. We started the day under a brilliant sun and drifted into the most beautiful stretch on the whole Greenbrier. Passing under the gates to civilization, we enter the next phase of the trip where everything gets bigger! Arriving an Ronceverte by mid afternoon, we grabbed a lunch and then pushed off again in search of Aquaman Island. Kayak Camping is always better when camping on a perfect Island. We start and finish our day on 10 of 10 campsites. Come along!

    ❤Oh man Pete, you just raised the bar!!!! All of your videos are top notch, but last week you blew me away, and now you drop this…..as I said last week, WV Tourism Productions can’t even come close, think we’re gonna have to reach out to Corey Lilly and see if he can pull some strings to get you recognized as an outstanding ambassador! Again, job well done, keep ‘em coming, this series is my childhood in WV

    I had to watch it twice, because I drifted away yesterday about half way through after a long late shift at work.
    Nothing is more relaxing than listening to the sound of water, looking over the tip of a kayak at all this beautiful scenery and the fresh green of an early summer.
    Quite the opposite of a shift in a 15K people factory! 😀

    I remember being a boy. Not a care in the world. Running thru the woods not a care in the world. run up on a creek or pond go skinny dipping or if it was big enough go cut a hickory limb and tie fishing liner to the end of it. dig up worms and go fishing> didn't care if we caught anything or not. We were living the life. I may not run thru the woods anymore but I get in my kayak to go fishing and catch myself just looking around me at the beauty of nature and forget about fishing. Life is good. Great Vid as always Pete. Makes me wish I was a youngun again. Don't every quit making these vids bro. You will love looking back on them later on in your years and telling yourself "I lived the dream".

    Pete, I'm new to your channel and I LOVE IT!! I've watched this whole series on the Greenbrier up to this point but haven't dopped any comments. Hearing you reminisce about exploring as a child brought back some really good memories for me as a child. As a product of the 70's, I was able to go out and explore much like you did, I'm sure. Kids nowadays are so engrossed in the electronics; they're being robbed of experiences. The creeks, rivers, railroad tracks, woods...all of it. Now living in northern Alabama, we have some great yak'ing rivers close by. Though I don't own one (yet), I love being on the water. This trip has been incredible to relive vicariously through your lens and thoughts. I would love to do a week long kayak camping trip with good friends, just like you did. I'm envious. Thanks for the great content. Cheers.

    The scenery and the choices of music, you really knocked it outta the park! Awesome! ... The first time I fell outta my yak was just about like that. I had one foot in and one foot out. Then my feet parted ways, and down I went. :-)

    Another amazing day on the water with nature and friends, start to finish! I'm glad Austin was able to get that Bald Eagle! Every time I got to see one this weekend I was scaring them out of a tree before I got to see them. They sure are a sight to see! Hope my GoPro was able to pick them up well enough. I usually hide that spam slice in a wrap so I don't have to look at it! LOL!!

    I can abide Spam if it's fried, maybe hidden in a sandwich. Not sure I could handle eating it straight outta the package, so kudos to Austin and Pete on that one- I had to look away. I often carry packs of Hereford "Rip-N-Ready" Shredded Beef Brisket. Shelf stable for at least a year, can heat it in package with just hot water, add to ramen, eggs, tortillas, etc. The brisket looks/smells a bit more palatable than cold Spam, BUT pan-fried Spam with a pineapple ring, some instant rice, some soy sauce is pretty good stuff, especially when you are hungry! Great series on the Greenbrier! 👏

    Missed the premiere last night, I didn't have service where I was camping for the GoPro Mountain Games in Vail.
    Other than saying this was a great video, I just wanted to say to try the spam fried. We were kinda poor growing up and would have fried spam sandwiches often.
    Now I make fried spam sliders with the mini Hawaiian bread rolls and some teriyaki sauce. It's so good, but yeah, definitely don't look at it.

    I am currently planning a trip on the GBR. Information is hard to come by!!! What were the sections/mileage for each day? can you point me to some good maps?

    • @RiverKingsKayak
      @RiverKingsKayak  10 місяців тому

      we did all the sections LOL. Part of the allure to that river is that there isn't a blue-way trail already established. Once a river becomes mapped and ready for anyone to show up and look at a map-board and pick a section etc, it becomes less of the adventure. On these rivers, I utilize google earth to map and plan my adventures. Basically, we traveled around 30ish miles each day and camped on islands where we could find them, popped into towns for meals and then pushed on to get back into the wild a bit to camp. There are a ton of great rivers that are mapped out, but I believe you might find that the unmapped rivers are a much better adventure! Hope that makes sense! If you look back in time on my channel, you will find the first trip down the greenbrier we took. In those videos, I posted that day's progress on a google map at the very end of each day. That might help. On the second trip, we basically replicated our first trip.

      @Studda13 9 місяців тому

      You are 100% correct. The more my group and I discussed, the more excited we are to know that it is unmapped. We did the upper Gauley this year and our guide point us to the river. Thanks for the response! @@RiverKingsKayak
