Yeah, it definitely needs that breakthrough to be a feasible alternative for Corvette guys that want to build something different. The cost of XLR's THEN a full drivetrain swap though...that's the hurdle. I only paid 10k for this car, so I think I'm safe to dig into it but....I also haven't really looked underneath or inspected it closely. Hopefully there aren't any hidden demons.

I never thought I would see anyone try to integrate all these systems together into one head unit. Yeah the price is high and most people will go with a double din but it is really cool and original. I have a 08 6spd base no steering wheel controls no bose added the hud. And im definitely considering the max din. Seeing you considering expanding to other vehicles is great and I would say you would definitely have a much larger pool of potential customers with adding Tahoes and silverados. Idk how much different the systems are but there are so many of them on the road. I would think people would be interested.
I would love to own an XLR. I just don't want to deal with the Northstar issues. And yeah...my c5 climate control needs love..replaced some of the buttons and the face plate. Gotta redo the leds and find a replacement for the right knob, not the plastic part.
I own a C6 (haven't yet popped in your max din unit yet but will here soon) and just bought a really well maintained 2006 XLR. I think the 2 communities are totally different which may affect your decision. The XLR crowd is clearly an older demographic (I'm 55 and think I'm the youngest guy driving one in PA) and they tend to not modify their XLRs. My previous owner of 17 years luckily kept her mint stock and literally didn't change a single thing on the car which is inconceivable to most C5/6 owners.🤔🤔🤔 Plus, it seems like most XLRs go to FLA to retire with their owners who may not know what bluetooth is or still own a smart phone (no offense guys). Plus, the interiors are different in that the stereo head and heating/cooling units are so far away in the XLR (with a massive CD unit in between) unlike the C5s & 6s which are closer, right? With that said, the XLR has potential to have your massive screen given all that space which would be awesome since the current one is so small I need readers to see it. Would really update the look of the interior which is minimalist. I'd love to see the concept on the XLR and how it would look with the beveled brushed nickel and wood trim incorporated into the finished look. And moving forward, the XLRs are going to have to eventually move on to younger owners who love their styling and easy going performance (like me). Then again, they only made 15K of them in 6 years so the potential market isn't close to the Vette production runs. Hope these comments help, sorry for being long winded and love your channel. I have focused interest in the XLR community actually. I thibk the take rate is going to be surprising. C6 Maxadin buyers are predominantly older vs younger actually. Many older C6 owners like the tech and can afford it as well. Its the younger guys, buying a bunch of other mods and with a variety of interests that seek more budget based options. Thats the buyer data of C6 anyway. XLR isnt a done deal...I have steps in how I do this, to gauge interest and commitment levels. The full function XLR prototype will be shown soon, as its almost done.

I have people that say the price is extravagant and people that say its a bargain based on what theyve spent on audio in the past. No one agrees on the price issue. From my end...it costs what it costs to develop. No one was ever going to do this Corvette...so I did. Unfortunately, product development on this level costs a lot, and serves a small audience. A universal kenwood or alpine can be installed in anything...this can only be installed in one car. Its worth it to some and a joke to others...thats how it goes.
I agree 100% for sure. The engine and automatic are an issue that, once removed, I think gives the car a little potential but....they're definitely an acquired taste. If you're willing to go ALL IN on one, gut it, re-drivetrain it, body mod it, etc...I think there is a heck of a neck breaking vehicle to roll up with but....won't be easy.

The Corvette forum ive also commented on I think a lot of people are just out there just to cause problems and negative feedback for no reason. The negative people never even used or seen the Max din lol Im in the UK so makes the prices expensive as we have to pay 20% tax and then another 10% import tax on top of that lol but next year maybe placing an order...Waiting for the new C6 headlights 1st :-)
Yeah, I got this one for 10k. The car definitely feels....different....lol. It feels heavy, the motor/tranny is a bit odd. You can tell it's kind of a Corvette, but not...lol
The xlr is most deserving of an upgrade such as this. The xlr's body design is 20yrs ahead of its time, cadillac has just begun to use some of the exterior features of the xlr on the cadillacs of today I can't express how much this car needs this upgrade and a led or lcd cluster wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Yeah, I agree with you 100%. I feel the Hummer H2 is within this realm also. If you look at the Bronco window/belt lines, the newest Tahoes and even land cruisers, they are aligning very much with H2's sideview of clean long straight lines and narrower windows. The H2 needs a facelift and an interior lift because many people still appreciate those vehicles as well. The downturn really killed Cadillac and Hummer momentum, because they were headed toward very good things, ahead of the curve in some ways, if you ask me. Good thing is, we can still have fun with what whats here at least.
I have a 2005 xlr and would be very interested in the product. I have been following the work with the C6 and love it. The potential for the xlr would be awesome. I hope the transition to the xlr would be soon to take advantage of the modern feel.
I think you are doing an amazing job with the community. Like you said, these cars still have a decent value and the old looking controls IMHO brings down the desirability. I like my newer cars but the older ones just don't have the features that I'm accustomed to. This helps a lot with making my decision to drive an older car for a daily. Your Sleepy Eye lights have made me want a C5, and now you have the screen coming. A C5 is in my near future.
Not a big surprise how much crosses over between product lines. The SRX may work as well. GM (and all OEMs) spend tons of money to maximize part crossovers. I could see a secondary bridging finisher to use the C6 MAX-DIN to the XLR and a jumper harness to make the radio connection. It may be a lower investment than a completely new finisher at the low volume. I could see triple LED lights stacked vertically in a new minimal housing to eliminate the yellowing housing that affects all lights eventually. Great ideas to ponder...
Unbelievable...I ordered the MaxDin on Monday! I have both a C6 and an XLR. Because of the rarity I agree with your comments. To be honest I probably would not order a second unit from you but I have considered replacing the dash with C6. Be aware that, due to the few units made, the headlights and taillights bring over a grand each...hint hint
I've learned that recently for sure, and yes...I was like...hmmmmm. I personally don't care for the headlights but there is a space there which can definitely accomodate something nice and updated. We have to see where the MAXDin goes first, then we'll look at other aspects of the car.
Great looking work man. You mention it handles the heated seats in the C5 - does it manage the cooled function as well? Put me on the list of prospective customers.
Looks awesome, and I’d be interested, but only if the “kinetic aluminum” bezel material could somehow be reproduced (which seems pretty unlikely). I don’t think my OCD could tolerate a plastic bezel!
Isn't gonna happen so, gotta be out. If more folks share your sentiment it may be best for me to cancel the project sooner vs later. We have a prototype built but the decision will have to come soon....too much invested trying to make parts for a low volume car...may be best to leave well enough alone.

Yeah...those gauges are a tragedy...the outer ones especially. They look like something out of a 90's GMC pickup truck.

I have an 06' XLR and I think this is cool.
XLR console, hvac and radio has been sent to my partner and I am 3D scanning the car ahead for other mods. Lots comin ahead
