    When making 360 degree videos, sometimes action cameras just don't cut it. In this walkthrough tutorial I break down how you can shoot crispy 360 videos with a DSLR or Mirrorless camera rig like the Sony A7SII or Panasonic GH5. We'll cover camera settings, rig setup, lens choices, set checklists, shooting considerations, and post-production. You'll walk away ready to shoot 360 with higher quality cameras, understanding the complete workflow and knowing exactly when to use such a rig in your 360 productions.

    Lots of hard work, patience and technicality.
    Long way to go for #360° vediography to get mainstream.
    With great passionate contributors like you all, it's only going get better by the day.

    Hi Billy, thanks for this video - it has started me on a journey to put together a rig for the Sony A7S3. I was wondering on the lens side - I can only find APS-C lenses for E-Mount that are lower than 10mm. Samyang has a 12mm, f2.8 one that claims to be covering 180 degree diagonally - would this work? Or would you recommend an APS-C lens even though these are full frame cameras and accept the loss in pixel information?

    Hey! Great job you've done there! Very helpful and well structured.
    I have two questions for you if you mind : )
    1/ If I want to totally get rid of the stitching line ( both for far and close object) would 5 or 6 cameras allow to do this since we would get more overlap?
    2/ Have you heard of any company that would build 360 rigs with 5-6 cameras?
    Thanks again a lot!

    • @bilawal
      @bilawal  7 років тому +2

      +Quentin Luisi Thanks! So you can't totally get rid of stitch lines because the camera body size will always introduce parallax between each of those vantage points. Even if you put 6 cams together, you would still be introduction parallax between adjacent cameras. The only reason I'd go up to more cameras is if you intend to extract stereo/depth map info. Depending on your lens choice 4 cam is a good sweet spot for high quality mono 360, and adding more cameras will not give you more resolution either. Lastly I wouldn't fear stitch lines so much and explore solutions like MistikaVR and DWarp in AVP to see how close these tools get you to compensating for parallax on your rig.

    Bro, I LOVE this video as I have built the same exact rig (by renting bodies and using the Embrace Cinema Gear Rig). I have shots which totally cover the shot, I've sync'd in Premier BUT my Stich just won't work in AutoPana. They won't play ball. What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any help.

      +Ian Allardyce glad it was useful mate! if you wanna email a frame grab of each camera to hello@imaginfinity.in I can see what's up. Cheers

      Hello, thanks for the reply. I sorted it out, the problem was just that the test I shot (in my lounge) had things too close to the cameras, which messed up the stitch. Once I took the rig outside all was OK. Thanks again.

    • @bilawal
      @bilawal  7 років тому

      +Ian Allardyce right! Glad you solved it. Yes these sort of setups give you high res and great dynamic range with the trade off of a greater minimum stitchable distance.

    Hi Bilawa, I'm looking at building a A6300 rig however the link for the lens you recommend are for a M43 - Got a Sony A6300? Go Samyang 7.5mm amzn.to/2claeIE - This would need an adopter - any recommendations?
    I'm going with the A6300 as I'm on a budget for my first multi camera rig.
    Also would the Meike 6.5mm Ultra Wide f/2.0 E mount work better as the FOV is 190 degrees.

    could you talk about the mic which you'd put on this? what are the options in that what else to consider for audio in 360 videos?

    • @bilawal
      @bilawal  7 років тому

      +A Aa I'm honestly pretty happy with my Zoom H2N and mono audio samples placed spatially in post. Dysonics and Sennheiser make great solutions you might look into if you want more robust spatial audio capture solution

    Hi
    have question is this setup doable in cars interiors shoots ?

    • @bilawal
      @bilawal  5 років тому

      Not ideal for small spaces like a car, I would use something like an insta360 or 3xbackbone GoPro rig for a smaller car. The GoPro fusion might also be a good all in one choice

  • @UniverseOfAtoms
    @UniverseOfAtoms 7 років тому

    Is the video from this rig 3D? Can you create 3D effect in post?

    • @bilawal
      @bilawal  7 років тому +1

      +UniverseOfAtoms there is just enough overlap that you can extract *some* stereo from this configuration but even then it tends towards hyper stereo. For 3D in a 4 cam setup you'd get better results with a smaller camera system and lenses with more overlap. The iZugar 220 deg is a good candidate and compatible with a range of cameras.

    Hello!
    Why gh5 use Samyang 7.5mm still no sky and ground? because I'm 4/3? Not Full Frame?

    • @bilawal
      @bilawal  5 років тому

      That’s correct. You need to make sure the image circle produced on your particularly sensor works for the desired purpose. Check out the izugar 3.5mm for the GH5.

    • @bilawal
      @bilawal  7 років тому

      +pramod jois yeah that is a known issue with the Kodaks... some were indeed shipped with lenses off kilter. You should try to get em replaced by Kodak for sure! You can also salvage best you can by applying more sharpening to that cam in post.

      free stitching software ?

    • @bilawal
      @bilawal  7 років тому

      +pramod jois i'd say batch processing frames in PT GUI is the cheapest good option. The free Kodak stitching software isn't horrible for quick tests but a custom template in Kolor AVP is the ideal way to go before stepping up to the Nuke/CaraVR level.

    Hey great stuff!! I am into experimenting with a lot of 360 videos myself over the past two years. Feel free to check out my channel .
    I use Gopros And they suck at properly exposing at most of the situations. Can you explain how you fixed the nodal point issue with the dslr ?
    I intend to use with just one dslr in a controlled environment though. I prefer to use a6300. Still tried experimenting on it yet
