I am finding that the Microsoft ecosystem is providing too many options for storing files and it’s getting increasingly complicated to find a file as it could be in SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive even Outlook attachments. It’s a lot of wasted time searching for files. Any advice on best practice. I have asked staff not to attach a file in a cha/post in MS Teams but to put the file on SharePoint and put the link to the file in the MS Teams post/chat. I know in the background of MS Teams is SharePoint but we have MS Teams and a Separate SharePoint site.
Most of our faculty post syllabi as PDFs because someone 10+ years ago told them to do that so students wouldn't be able to modify their downloaded copy.
Are we sure it's not a relic of a printing-heavy population? In theory, a SP page would be a better, modern display opportunity for a syllabus. That way it's mobile friendly and loads nicely as a tab in Teams (and elsewhere). But if someone likes to--or thinks they may want to--print it, then they would default to Word/PDF, which these days seems pointless.
@@jumpto365 We use Blackboard Learn as the "official" LMS, so faculty are (essentially) required to "upload" a syllabus into their course each term. A small handful of faculty do "share" the syllabus from their OneDrive, but most still upload. There's also a lingering issue between Bb Learn, Edge and Office documents that prevents them from opening in a browser. Well, it TRIES to open them in a browser (if Edge is set to open office docs in browser) but throws a 404 (something to do with the way Blackboard hands the page load off to some service in AWS - it's a long story where there are no heroes...only villains).
Really appreciate the discussion. That "home" thing in OneDrive to me is really another step in a series of bad steps for the product, since OD4B is not the same thing as Files in M365, yet Microsoft continues to try to make it so. It is so confusing for end-users. (they already think their OneDrive files are safe because "they're in SharePoint" because of the URL).
Now when we get 49 video streams in meetings all I neeeeed is MS to scrap the dynamic-view. My gosh I really don’t like it. Or at least give me one button switch for all video streams.
Since you talked about Onedrive sync, I have a question. With the newer Onedrive shortcut functionality, when it puts the shortcut into MyFiles, does that shortcut only appear in the bowser app, or is also supposed to sync with Ondrive sync down to the File Explorer view? My experience is that it does not sync but I wanted to verify whether or not that is accurate? Thanks.
In my experience, those shortcuts DO sync. In fact, if I have a particular SP library shortcut in my OneDrive AND I sync that library, the OneDrive sync client warns me that it can't sync duplicate content and allows me to easily stop syncing. I'd prefer if it gave me a choice (e.g.: "Remove shortcut" or "Stop syncing"), but what they've done is functional.
@@cvkealey ok, that might be my issue, I have a lot already synced so it might be throwing up on those when I try a shortcut. Thanks for the info, helps me identify my next set of verification tests
Are you talking about "Pin to Quick access" in the OneDrive/SharePoint library experience? Pretty sure that's browser-only. The Windows quick access is its own thing and they don't appear to talk.

Matts PDF point is valid in education. OMG these teachers overuse PDFs.
