    Hi, thanks for the time you put into your channel. Good tip on dealing with rats & mice - use tulle wrapped around the fruit, they hate it & we get to enjoy the fruit.. Most shops that sell material will have it, it’s often used in costumes etc. The other tip is organza bags, like you use for presents etc. they’re great to put over fruit to keep away the fruit fly pest. That way the whole garden isn’t needing to be covered hence better access to everything else. They’re relatively cheap especially if you buy quantity from places like eBay. The little ribbon makes it so easy to attach & draw in the top & seems to do a pretty good job of keeping them on for months if needed. Just make sure to allow for growth of your fruit. I’ve been using them for 2-3 years now & they seem to hold up quite well. Central Qld weather can be pretty harsh. Wash after each use & reuse. Happy gardening

      I’ve tried that unfortunately the ones we get chew right through. I’ve lots a few exclusions bags to them.

    I've just chanced upon your channel and I can't wait to go through your content.
    I'm in 4053, so I am keen to find what works/ what doesn't around here since I'm new to gardening and relatively new to this area.
    Although, my current plans are for native plants and then I'll move into fruit & veg raised beds.

    Hi, I'm in the same area and I've never had an issue with fruit flies on watermelon/rockmelon

    Do u do anything about the rats or just put up with them? I lost all my corn to them while I was away with work.

      We have a bucket trap, cage trap and regular trap. Usually when we catch one the go away for a bit. I definitely need to sort out our chicken coop as I know that’s what is attracting them. I am not keen on baits as I have seen owls and we have a tawny frogmouth that lives nearby.

    hey there, beautiful garden. i was think with your pest pressure you might have been lacking calcium. you mentioned a high ph, im thinking maybe you could have high sodium, maybe interfering with magnesium on your peas. anyways beautiful:)

    I'm in SEQ too (Logan) and this is the first year I've had QFF, so disappointed I've lost so many things as I didn't know about it. Have started bagging and netting.... funny though same as you, I have an area that doesn't seem to be effected over the other side of the house - time to expand that area I think! Enjoying your videos!

      They actually can’t fly that far. They get around hopping from tree to tree.

      @@loveofdirt Ahhhhh I see.. I have caught quite a few in the trap, my veg garden is on the border of 3 other neighbours yards so they could be coming from any of their places with something tasty too

      yeah likely, a lot of people don't bother dealing with infected fruit appropriately

    at the end of the video your cucumber plant looks just like mine devastated by what ? can you advise lots of those orange lady bugs with lots of spots and the yellow ones... ALSO... my caps are not developing proper fruit.. they are dropping off and rotten inside with magots.... live clarence valley nsw

    • @loveofdirt
      @loveofdirt  Рік тому

      Yeah the cucumber has been attacked by the 28 spot ladybird - the yellow fuzzy thing are their babies. The yellow ladybirds are harmless they eat fungus (powdery mildew). Maggots in your capsicums will be fruit fly - you’ll need to net them unfortunately- we’ve been lucky to not get them in our capsicums this year

      I do a garden walk daily. And I just squish the 28 spotted ladybugs when I see them. Never in my life did I think I’d turn into a ladybug murderer 🫠

      😂 yeah I hear you. Squishing is the only option
