Ab Ab what a load of shite !!....he was a great man in giving up so much on a principle ( even if he was being manipulated by Malcolm X , Elijah Mohammed and the Nation of Islam ).... But the greatest ever refers to the greatest heavyweight ever and he clearly wasn't that ....every time he fought smoking Joe it was a close hard fought even fight , every time he fought Ken Norton it was close and most boxing people think he lost all 3 of them , earnie shavers beat him , Jimmy young beat him but he was such a celebrity by then that public opinium swayed the boxing judges , big George foreman battered him and made him surrender his pre fight game plan if move move move and survival forced on him a cover up and sap him strategy , he didn't dominate Joe bugner the way a greatest should of and even a Spanish European heavyweight called evangelista went 15 rounds ...Leon spinks was garbage but still chased the still only 38 yr old Ali around the ring and even at his peak Larry Holmes would of out jabbed him ......greatest ever no way ...great principled man ...yes ( even if he was being used )

This is an argument waiting, but I think Ray is the only person who came the closest to being what Ali was. His talent at emulating Ali's style was better than anyone's was. Ray had the same heart that Ali did

Pound per pound maybe better even, and you could probably add Sugar Ray Robertson and maybe Roy Jones Jr. to that list as well

No no no. Ali would destroy both of them. He would get in Jones Jr head easily.

Very humble accolade from the champ to the champ ...I was only an amateur boxer but Muhammad Ali told me the same thing to be your own person 108th and Broadway in the early 80s

A Black History Moment: Muhammad Ali my brother--when you have sit on the Mountain Top with The Greatest, everyone else is just a footnote; The Kronk Gym, Thomas Hearns, Hilmer Kenty, Emanuel Stewart and Prentis Byrd were a class-acts. Sugar Ray Leonard has come a long way, the real story that Ray does not tell relating to his rags to riches story. He was born in NC lived in NW DC in his early years. He then moved to Palmer Park, Maryland. He won the Gold Medal in the 1976 Olympic Games. He arrived home to Palmer Park expecting a ticker tape parade, instead he received a scalding from local media for having a baby out of wed lock with girlfriend Quanita. Ashamed he hid in his house and refused to come out. He had lost his self-esteem. One day I am hanging out in Anacostia Park playing tennis and I look out from the tennis courts and I see his trainer Janks Morton and my friend the late great Melvin Weasel Jackson looking in. I leave the courts to find out what was going on, because baseball was their game. It was then they explained to me that Ray refused to come out of the house. I was then asked to go and talk to him and try to convince him to check his ego and self esteen at the door and ignore the media. Those were tuff times financially and Ray didn't have two pennies to rub together. He was confused and had no one to turn to--enter Harold Bell. The following morning I went to Palmer Park and knocked on his door. He answered with tears in his eyes looking all pitiful. I use some choice words and convinced him to put his clothes on and I suggested that he put his Gold Medal around his neck. We were off to Harrison Elementary School in NW DC. I alerted my friend the Principal Mr. Cousins that I was on the way with Ray and to find him a class to speak to. The setting was perfect, elementary school children did not have the same player-hating and evious jealousy traits as we adults. All they could see was the Olympic Boxing champion that their Principal called a hero. The rest is boxing history--Sugar RayLeonard went on to become the first pro boxer to earn over 100 million dollars. When he beat Wilfred Benitez he called me live on my sports talk show on WYCB Radio in DC and said, “Harold I am the welterweight champion of the world, because you were there when no one else was.” This is a little known Black History fact.
