I always feel this song is the beginning of the abba ‘sound’, with the ladies singing in strong harmony, and the arrangements getting a little more complex….Such a little gem this one 😊
This one is a big favourite and probably Frida's first real leadvocal on an ABBA track. A rariety that Benny was the lyricist here and hard to belive this song is now fifty years old. I really enjoy your ABBA videos.
hello again GivenToe, so happy to see you again with our ABBA Journey Gonna sing you my love song (1974) It is a beautiful vocal interpretation of Frida as the lead voice and a very powerful choir when joined by Agnetha It's one of the few early ABBA songs with one of the Ladies in lead voice (second of Frida in two first albums) It is a preview of what Frida will demonstrate with her leadership in the single "Fernando" and later with "Knowing me knowing you" on Arrival and "One man one woman" on The Album is in my favorites from "Waterloo" album only behind the homonymous and colossal masterpiece "Waterloo" and the catchy "Honey honey" at the same level as "Hasta Mañana" and "Dance (while the music still goes on)" See you soon in next ABBA reaction a cordial greeting from Buenos Aires , Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
Ahh I adore this song it’s very rich and warm and tender ❤ Love the velvety soothing voice of our Frida 😍 Then the joint vocals of Agnetha makes it the perfect sound that unison 🙌 I agree it’s a little mystical
I enjoy it as much as you GivenToe. I am a sucker for Fridas warm voice. The change in the song halfway shows that Abba is evolving here, putting in more and better variation. I cant wait till we get to the next album.
This track does not get the recognition it deserves. I hope they re-issue the greatest hits Vol 1 on it's 50th anniversary and add this as one of the bonus tracks. Frida's vocals are amazing as she sings about being the 'other woman'. A gem.
Great song, great vocals from Frida, and a great reaction ! .. Also fantastic that you are continuing your ABBA albums journey for the many, many of us ABBA fans out there who hang out for each song reaction .. I sometimes wish you could do them just a little more regularly, as I want to still be alive by the time you reach the end ! .. But I know you're doing what time allows you. 👍.. Cheers, Wayne
This is definitely one of the best songs on this album, I love it. Frida sings it perfectly 🥰. Nice reaction too, thank you 🙏🏻. One more song to go on ‘Waterloo’ I think, then it’s the ‘Abba’ album. Some great songs to come 😊, I’m sure you will enjoy hearing them 😁
In my top ten all time favourite ABBA songs. Such a beautiful song, Frida's vocals are amazing here. The lyrics were written by Benny this time and although just hearsay in the ABBA world it has been said that Frida was the 'other woman' he wrote about and she sang from his perspective.
I think it's the beautiful ballad of Waterloo and a highlight in the album. Frida sings it so lovely and the chorus with the two girls is just heaven. The melody, the production, all is lovely here and goes directly to the heart. Thank you, David!
ABBA can and will explore the diverse styles of music that exist ,and maybe create a few new genres of their own .This song enters the realm of contemplation and reflection a place of comfort, yes, but also devotion and submission, a haunting sound framing the angelic voice of Annifrid to bring through our ears into our minds a mystical and definitive love song to leave us in a state of immersive surrender to their sublime perfection, this is ABBA ,beyond definition, a PHENOMENON unrivalled and supreme.
GivenToe I love your channel ! Love love love Frida's soft bassy vocals on this, full of sensual emotion and true meaning in every word, one of the first Frida led ABBA songs and it comes across that she had already mastered her craft right from the start.
Not heard this one before, the girls harmonise so well together, and i quite like the song. I can't wait until you react to my favourite Abba Album The Visitors 😎👍
Je suis contente de voir que vous avez aimé cette chanson. Elle est magnifique. Dommage que vous ne parliez pas de la voix de Frida qui fait tout le charme de la chanson. Une voix de velours. 😍😍
Thanks for your reaction to this song. One of my favourite songs on this album. As you said, a comfortable song and it just makes you feel good inside.
I have loved ABBA for over 40 years and when I hear them sing, I feel wonderful inside. Agnetha has been my favorite. I wrote to her a long time ago, but she never wrote back. I saw them in concert in Toronto on October 7, 1979.
Just love this song, Frida’s lead vocals are beautiful & haunting.. A very underrated song from the Abba collection. The highlight for me from this album. Great review GivenToe. Ps/ Where did GivenToe come from?
LOVE this song,I know,I say it often about ABBA and its difficult to compare often with ABBA songs, but this is I think one of the better love songs that was ever made in my view.....Cheers from Stockholm Sweden ..
We are on the same frequency Dave Yorkshire. ABBA has had several different sounds and this song - agree - is one of the first of their 'mature' sound as one could call to how they so brilliantly sounded at their 1977 belle époque. This unique sound already shows in full swing at their 1975 live recordings, where most all interpretations have as unique and precious build as this song clearly shows. For sure, It had been building up incrementally in previous years. That said, ABBA had several parallel sound currents. Honey Honey sound explorations clearly precede Dancing Queen which follows and then mutates into Voulez Vous. One can hear it in the massive crystalline strums of classic guitar and in the clouds of strings swells this three songs share. Gonna Sing you My Lovesong is one of the songs that state their choral voice 3D positions respecting auditory layers so to create ambience and more importantly enhancing the sense of space already built at the main guitar arpeggios guiding the tone of the song (hear them isolated at its intro). That completer 'sound' was very much traversing the Arrival album a year later, with some songs more successful at it than others. However, it was not until Eagle, The Name of The Game, One Man one Woman and actually the whole rest of their ABBA The Album, and their preceding 1977 live ABBA The Tour, where they could fully display their ethereal matrix of sound as we now may identify. Of course, ABBA being the versatile self they always have been together, never stopped pursuing and including other sounds and venues, mixing selfs and going to bes in some unique songs all along, here and there. That continual own evolution together with their search and acquired surprises more acutely describe their albums of late... and their early beginnings.
Yet another classic from the boys brilliant writing and melody ,and the rich voice of Frida, and of course agnetha, thanks again for showing to the world what a fantastic, and still the best group ever , your the best david ,keep up the great work your doing x
Why is it that Sweden has so many so talented musicians, starting with ABBA and ending with...... Is it the long dark winters that doesn't give you anything better to do? Maybe not in Skåne, your winter isn't any darker than mine 😊. Do musicians get better opportunities then in other countries? Many people don't notice how difficult Abba's harmonies are. They always sound so easy and yet it is so hard to sing. The harmonies between Agneta and Anni-Fried are so tight it is amazing. This is not music for just having it in the background but really listen. I love it😊
Yet another wonderful reaction thank you again. I literally can't wait when I see you've done another song. This is in my opinion the begining of the Abba sound. The harmonys. The change in structure. They are always constantly evolving. Thank you again. Keep up the good work on your reactions 🙏🙏🙏
Always fun when I hear songs from my very first LP 😀 I remeber this one well and it's a beautiful song 🥰 Thanks for another really good reaction David 🙏👌
You are in shock, aren´t you? So as me when I heard this song first time almost 50 years ago. And everytime, when I hear it again. It hapens me every time when I am listening to each of their song. Such musical imagination is exceptional. Their entire production is an unforgettable work.
This is ABBA taking on the American singer/songwriter style of artists like Barry Manilow, Carol King, Elton John (actually English but we'll ignore that just for the minute), Billy Joel, Jimmy Webb (the list is endless) - the genre is intimate, confessional - you are made to feel it's just the performer, the piano (or guitar) and you and ABBA manage to recreate this style in this song - I just wanna go back to my fireside and toast some more marshmallows with Frida - see you later...
ABBA struggled to find a follow up hit to 'Waterloo' when they 'were still looking for 'their sound' as Björn put it. Were they a Glam Rock or Folky Pop group? At the time, they were an odd mish-mash of both. Maybe this one didn't have the 'oomph' of 'So Long' but it is a classic Pop song and had those beautiful harmonies that we came to love. And it may have fared better as a release. It's one of the gems on the early albums.
ABBA, can catch the listener at the start then makes an unexpected turn. This one is a good example. That's what makes ABBA ABBA. I think that may be a reason they are respected by other bands/musicians.

hello again GivenToe, so happy to see you again with our ABBA Journey
Gonna sing you my love song (1974)
It is a beautiful vocal interpretation of Frida as the lead voice
and a very powerful choir when joined by Agnetha
It's one of the few early ABBA songs with one of the Ladies in lead voice
(second of Frida in two first albums)
It is a preview of what Frida will demonstrate with her leadership in the single "Fernando"
and later with "Knowing me knowing you" on Arrival
and "One man one woman" on The Album
is in my favorites from "Waterloo" album
only behind the homonymous and colossal masterpiece "Waterloo"
and the catchy "Honey honey"
at the same level as "Hasta Mañana" and
"Dance (while the music still goes on)"
