The Borax helps blend the metal and also helps to remove impurities. They stick to the Borax. Also, just to help, be carful if your melting of clasps that you remove the spring inside the clasp as it is not gold or silver, whichever you are melting. I made this mistake in the beginning of my melting endeavors. Best of luck, you guys are awesome.
The old coins are very interesting, always love to see coins coming into the shop. The gold melts are extremely interesting also. Maybe you can show the complete process including the assaying and sale of the bars to your buyer (Prince).
Awesome video! Just a FYI, after pouring, quench it immediately, gold solidifies quickly, and it will make it more dense. Also, it will make it more smooth when you pour and keep the torch on it for a few seconds.
Cool video, got a tooth ache but still love watching this kind of videos. Got an appointment tomorrow lol. Keep up the good work, they turned out very good I think. Practice makes perfect!
With all that mixed scrap there will be a fair amount of silver in the gold. Borax will take out some of the metals but not silver. Also, when you pour, re-aim your torch at the pour spout of the crucible. That will get you a smoother bar.
It’s fun but be very careful. One mistake and it could be really bad. Purifying gold is a crazy process that you pretty much have to be a chemist to complete. Good luck.
Facts bro i lost me dad 10yr ago in a tragic way and stil not a day goes by where i dont think of him and miss him and wish he was here. Enjoy it and cherish it while u have it. God bless🙏🙏🙏
Great video. I’m the guy who won the silver maple leaf last Friday. Let me know how to get my address to you. I have a pan just like your cooling pan that I use to cook mashed potatoes.
I noticed about halfway through that you made a comment about putting in a lot less borax. The point of putting in a 50-50 weight mix of borax and gold is to clean up the purity of the gold. Sometimes it can be a little more to clean up but you get better results. I’ve been melting my own stuff for well over 25 years. I do not do it professionally I have a small kiln like you do but from doing it from so many years and learning from others. It’s a lot better to clean up that gold. I’ve learned quite a bit in the last couple of years from Jason at Mount Baker mining and metals.
I like that you spend time with your father. I get to spend a lot of time with my father also. We just started getting into the coin collecting. I just purchased my first Morgan dollar other day. We really enjoy your videos.
That was fun seeing all that scrap turn into something sellable. Beautiful bars, especially after the tumbler. Gold is gold, who cares what it looks like!
I used to work in A foundry. We melted brass… bronze & aluminum bronze in gas furnaces year around. In the summer the pour room would be 145. We poured fast.. A few hundred pounds A pour. Your melting & pouring is getting on point.
Much growth buddy!!!! Go get it for your family! Great stuff and the beautiful thing is that you and your father are also together daily or very much .. keep it growing!
Besides Yard sales, the melting of gold is my favorite part of the channel.

Those 4 bars look pretty nice. Great work.
Watching this 8 months later, and it turned out to be one of my favorite vids ever!
The tumbler did a nice job of polishing the bars up. Nicely done!
They look nice after the tumbler!
When melting any karat gold besides 24 of course, I’ve always added a 50-50 weight mix of gold and borax. It cleans it up significantly.
Very cool, love to see the behind the scenes of things you never expect from the pawn business. Always loving the content!
Watching you open that package was priceless. Better safe than sorry 100%

This was cool watching the gold melt into bars.
I've watched some other live pours and they make use of a stand setup as an "extra" hand to hold the torch on the mold.
Very cool! The tumbler put a nice shine on those bars! 👍
Awesome video! Just a FYI, after pouring, quench it immediately, gold solidifies quickly, and it will make it more dense. Also, it will make it more smooth when you pour and keep the torch on it for a few seconds.

Nice! My local coin shop has one of these, he said I could use it. I have thought about getting all the supllies to purify the gold first.
It’s fun but be very careful. One mistake and it could be really bad. Purifying gold is a crazy process that you pretty much have to be a chemist to complete. Good luck.
