The one thing I loved about these rides is that they're educating you about hollywood techniques from famous films. The understanding of effects and storytelling and research. I wish they kept that concept.
I remember seeing this as a kid in the 90s. The big thing I will remember is just how hot the fire was which was almost a life lesson. The other thing was the strong chemical smell that was pumped into the attraction and something this video does NOT convey is how violent the catwalk beneath you breaking was. My little brother actually cried when the catwalk broke and my mom was complimenting me on how "brave" I was. I thought it was fucking awesome and bravery had nothing to do with it.
When I first went to USH in 2004, I originally did not want to do this attraction. Now I feel lucky that I had the chance to see it before they took it out. RIP Backdraft.
I use to love and hate Backdraft. I loved it because it was interesting and awesome how they did the fire and how they shot it. However, it was fucking hot and I couldn't breath in there! Really made me appreciate what fire fighters do for us.
I remember this! I was so little and it was soooo hit in there! I covered my eyes towards the end because I thought something went wrong and it was real.
Lol, glad it wasn't just me! I'm 29 and can distinctly remember being 4-5 and crying my eyes out. We came back 2-3 years later and I didn't cry....I was so proud of myself.
Same. I may have been to this attraction in the late 90s or early 2000s, but I remember it very vividly. I never saw the movie until 2012 just because it was on HBO. It’s a great movie.
I remember seeing this when I went to universal studios in I believe 2006 and it was awesome. Backdraft was so intense and so amazing. But after I went to the show I was interested in watching the movie but my mom said it’s not for kids so had to wait until I was older and I can’t believe it’s been 30 years for this movie
I MISS this! Well, not really, but I would love to see this again. It reminds me of the E.T. ride! I loved that ride. And Back To The Future! I remember hating to sit in the front row cause of the dinosaur. And the old King Kong, before it got burned down. :'( I would do anything to revisit the Universal Studios I remember when I was 7. Nonetheless, I still love that place.
Backdraft is still a ride available in Universal Studios Japan. Went there yesterday with my wife not knowing at all what to expect. She wanted to escape thinking something went wrong once stuff started exploding, that was before the ceiling collapsed!
"It blowed ash on us. I hated that thing." LOL But imagine the real firefighters that have it everyday and can't yell cut when they get burned. God Bless Reginald Denny RIP. He deserved better respect than the stupidity that killed him. My heart goes out to his family. He should've died saving lives or stayed with them.
@vegasjinx I agree. This display is a lot of what Universal was originally about. The whole concept of this park was to show how the special effects are made. This was real fire, not a 3D show. I'm wondering if they may be loosing sight of that if they're taking away this & the bridge. The old things may not be show stoppers, but what are they replacing them with? The 3D King Kong doesn't show how anything is made in movies. Tell me they still have avalanche. The optical illusion serves my point.
Backdraft is not an old movie but a classic. When I went to Universal Studios Hollywood last week, at the special effects show, they mentioned that there's no such thing as "old" movies. They're called "classics." I remember going to Backdraft since I was a kid and I always enjoyed it. It was because of this show that I learned how fire behaves and what a backdraft actually is. A very educational show. RIP :(
Well I'm sad that Backdraft and the original SFS closed as well although I didn't get to see them, I can tell they were quality attractions. I think it was there time to go, they were built quite a while ago and yeah. Hopefully JP isn't on the chopping list anytime soon as it is one of the oldest rides there and had quite the footprint on the land.
From watching that mini doc, that film Backdraft kind of reminds me of Ladder 49, another movie about firemen except it's Baltimore firemen. I guess i have to watch Backdraft to see what it's really about though.
maybe I'm meant to be a firefighter. I remember this as a kid and reading everyone's comments saying that this terrified them, but for me it entertained me a lot and I never saw the movie. Update: a lot has been going on throughout the past 4 years. Unfortunately I am not a firefighter. But I did learn a lot. What stopped me was the medical course, which doesn't make sense because I wanted to be a firefighter, not a paramedic, but in order to continue the fire course, I need to understand the medical course. Fail one of the 5 exams and it's immediate drop out. Three times have I tried and it quite didn't work out, even though I never wanted to be a paramedic
seriously why!? backdraft, back to the future ride, ET, Universal got rid off.. & King Kong burned down! :,( Universal has never been the same... =[ i miss being a kid...
coolAlex231 Omg I totally agree! This is the show I wish to see again but now its gone... Even Terminator 3D show is gone too... I dislike that stupid Minions ride. :(
how did you create the short circuiting lights? Ron Howard is an incredible director in water world how did you do the bullets bouncing through the water
Its so rare to find a pyro show. This attraction was torn down. The volcano in Vegas will be gone. No where to see a show with epic explosions anymore.
@sharpproductions Didn't they used to have an animatronics King Kong? The top half. I'm gonna miss Backdraft. It lasted a good long time though if they are just now getting rid of it. It was such an awesome display of fire though.
i remember watching this and developed a fear of fire bc young me genuinely thought the film was about an “evil force of nature fire” 😂😂 so embarrassing
The took upm2 spaces to make Transformers ride which is Backdraft, and Stage Effectsmshow. I'm happy,I get to experience Backdraft before they replaces it with Transformers :(
Fine Backdraft should have been kept, but look at it this way, it had an incident already with the pyrotechnics and I don't think the execs at US wanted any possible lawsuit on their hands. From a business standpoint it makes sense, either way there is absolutely nothing wrong with having Transformers there. I enjoy the fact that they are adding more rides to the park and would love to partake in the Spidermanesque ride that they are building. Never been on Spiderman ride before.
@taffyindahouse i know, this going to suck, even though i like Transformers, i will always like Backdraft stage, and I wish someone could buy the stage and still be shown.
@devanoo2 Haven't seen it, but I'll bet it doesn't show anything about how special effects are made, does it? Universal seems to be loosing sight of their old theme. Now if they showed how they changed a car into a robot maybe it would be worth something. Backdraft was the most impressive display of dangerous movie stunts showing this is how we control real fire to film.
Jaws the second verision got taken out because they had trouble finding the part. Kongfrontation at one park burned down Orlando took it down so they could make a roller coster for the mummy movie that bendin Frazier was in. There also was a cartoon series for the mummy that was made that takes before our after the events in the second movie but I don't think that many people saw it. At least they kept the bettlejuice show which replaced the ghostbusters one.
The one thing I loved about these rides is that they're educating you about hollywood techniques from famous films. The understanding of effects and storytelling and research. I wish they kept that concept.
1. Ride Jurassic Park, get wet.
2. Go on Backdraft, dry off.
That's what I did until they replaced Backdraft
Luckily there’s Revenge of the Mummy’s high speed.
repeat :P
They still had Jaws with backdraft when I was there..no JP
Perfection 😊
I miss actual sets, live actors and special effects like this. A screen and glasses just isn’t as scary as live fire like this. RIP Backdraft
This attraction scared the living shit out of me as a kid
Same here. Luckily for me i got to go one last chance and enjoy it before they turned it into the transformers ride
Samee, I saw it when I was like 8. It was hot as FUCK.
Same happened to my brother
I was 35-37 and it scared the crap outta ME!! I was standing right under the barrels that fall on the catwalk over your head!!
True. My dad had to chase me because I seen the fire. I was running through the whole set.
RIP backdraft, backdraft made ppl understand wut firefighters do for us
Want this back. My favorite bit is when (SPOILERS) the platform drops a little, it frightened me as a kid but I always loved watching the fires.
i wish this was still an attraction in the US. this is bad ass
I remember seeing this as a kid in the 90s. The big thing I will remember is just how hot the fire was which was almost a life lesson. The other thing was the strong chemical smell that was pumped into the attraction and something this video does NOT convey is how violent the catwalk beneath you breaking was. Oh I remember crying on this ride as a kid,my mom would laugh at me.
I remember this! I was so little and it was soooo hit in there! I covered my eyes towards the end because I thought something went wrong and it was real.
Yea but try to see it up close
Like in the Movies
I felt the same way i though it was gonna blow but it was part of a movie set thanks to ron Howard
went on this in 1997. i lost my crap as a kid then. went on it again in late 2009 before it closed enjoyed that time :P
I miss this attraction so much thank you for uploading this. It took me back to my teenage years
I remember this being terrifying as a young kid in the 90s. Now, it seems rather tame by comparison.
In a real house fire
This scared the crap out of me as a kid.
Lol, glad it wasn't just me! I'm 29 and can distinctly remember being 4-5 and crying my eyes out. We came back 2-3 years later and I didn't cry....I was so proud of myself.

Brought me back to my childhood memories and visit to universal studios with my parents.

God Bless Reginald Denny RIP. He deserved better respect than the stupidity that killed him. My heart goes out to his family. He should've died saving lives or stayed with them.
I remember this scenario. I was scared out of my mind when the rafter that you stand on "collapsed".
@vegasjinx I agree. This display is a lot of what Universal was originally about. The whole concept of this park was to show how the special effects are made. This was real fire, not a 3D show. I remember this scary experience as a kid, and when looking back at this and watching the movie clips of it is honestly traumatizing
BACKDRAFT!!!!! COME BBBBBAAAACCCKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!
acabner no no no no!
"You go....we go....." best line.
i remember going in the summer and walking in was like walking into an oven. not a good place to be in if youre trying to stay cool obv lol
I freakin love this show it's more like a show to me then a ride either way Universal Studios Hollywood is freakin awesome I love that place
guy on the intercom: i loved the fear on your faces and the screaming!
meanwhile it sounded like people were laughing lol
I remember seeing this in person in 2007 for Spring Break. Sad to see it got replaced by Transformers.
this needs to go back to Universal Studios
@Ilbebackman Two weeks ago they had it reopened, but at the premiere of Kong they weren't using it. That may change though as time progresses.
god.... so many memories... i was so sad when i heard it was taken down :(
robert becerra So was I, I remember seeing it when I was little and thinking, "Wow!" instead of being scared
Why was it taken take down
Susan Bradford of course! Transformers, it was cool cmon!
Man i miss stuff like this. The live action stuff was always the best. Backdraft, Waterworld, etc...
Best way to dry off after being on Jurassic park
i miss this so much :(
They should add Backdraft to the backlot tour.
Great Video.
i really enjoyed this attraction :) although i was there when i was small so it scared the daylights out of me! XD
puppyhowler Me too XD
I'm sad this is replaced. I loved this ride so much.

Real life advice quoted by Ron Howard himself
I'd always go there to get dry after Jurrassic Park.
Good times. (:
this show was AMAZING really good
I miss this show
I remember watching the movie as a kid and being excited to see it in real life. Sad i didn’t get to experience the attraction as an adult.
We need this back! Somehow lmfao
I remember going to this I must’ve been around 4 years old 😂
Well I'm sad that Backdraft and the original SFS closed as well although I didn't get to see them, I can tell they were quality attractions. Seeing as it'll still be pretty new they'll have the ride open. They usually have JP, Simpsons, and the Mummy open too.
maybe I'm meant to be a firefighter. I remember this as a kid and reading everyone's comments saying that this terrified them, but for me it entertained me a lot and I never saw the movie.

I Fuccing miss this
@awomansshow King Kong is going on the backlot next to the collapsing bridge. Transformers will be replacing Backdraft.
seriously why!? backdraft, back to the future ride, ET, Universal got rid off.. & King Kong burned down! :,( Universal has never been the same... =[ i miss being a kid...
yes, i did. I'm 26 now, and i miss all the old stuff! :/
coolAlex231 Omg I totally agree! This is the show I wish to see again but now its gone... Even Terminator 3D show is gone too... I dislike that stupid Minions ride. :(
+coolAlex231 ill be 26 in november and damn i miss the ET ride.
MrMagic no, this was in the lower lot
it was removed to make way for Transformers I think
Rene Navarro they should have relocated backdraft on the lot as a studio tour attraction.
1rst Backdraft 1 year later The World of CineMagic 1 year later Special Effects Stages 2 years later Transformers:The Ride 3D
when i was little i cried in this lol
how did you create the short circuiting lights? Ron Howard is an incredible director in water world how did you do the bullets bouncing through the water
The human starts to gain memory when it turns 3 yrs old. i went on this when i was 1 and i remember it
I had my first panic attack on this ride! Ohhh the memories...
I am honestly going to miss this attraction.
FEEL THE HEAT
Where's Fire Marshal Bill when you need him?
That'd be so scary to actually stand on that set while it's going.
beautiful
I live in florida i never got the chance to go on imagine if they bring it to Universal Orlando.
@818lilprincess They will construct the stage for Transformers ride and take part of the special effect stages as well just to make the bigger.
Its so rare to find a pyro show. This attraction was torn down. The volcano in Vegas will be gone. No where to see a show with epic explosions anymore.
this was my favorite thing there :(
@sharpproductions Didn't they used to have an animatronics King Kong? The top half. I'm gonna miss Backdraft. It lasted a good long time though if they are just now getting rid of it. It was such an awesome display of fire though.
@awomansshow they're replacing it with transformers the ride in 3D in the summer of 2012. the king kong 360 3d thing is part of the studio tour.
thank god i got to see this in 2007
Golly I miss this attraction a whole lot.
NOW THAT'S HOT
No kidding
What happened to backdraft? It was my fave!
menty100 it was replaced by Transformers.
i remember watching this and developed a fear of fire bc young me genuinely thought the film was about an “evil force of nature fire” 😂😂 so embarrassing
Weren't people supposed to be screaming? LOL At the end where he's like "GOOD STUFF PEOPLE!"
I suggest they bring it to universal orlando because i've never even been on before.
@Ilbebackman No they are going to use the bridge anymore... King Kong 3D blocks the bridge Exit
I still have the backdraft fridge magnet
I will miss this effect stage, when they will change it for Transformers.
WHY! I loved that place... D:
I miss this ride lol
The took upm2 spaces to make Transformers ride which is Backdraft, and Stage Effectsmshow. I'm happy,I get to experience Backdraft before they replaces it with Transformers :(

@taffyindahouse i know, this going to suck, even though i like Transformers, i will always like Backdraft stage, and I wish someone could buy the stage and still be shown.
Where is the shaking part?
>w< So excited!!!
My little cousin love this
Dude this ride made me so grump
I love Backdraft since 2013, Since I found out that they closed. I just barely want it to go to attraction. Why???
@devanoo2 Haven't seen it, but I'll bet it doesn't show anything about how special effects are made, does it? Universal seems to be loosing sight of their old theme. Now if they showed how they changed a car into a robot maybe it would be worth something. y not put back draft on the upper lot
Jaws the second verision got taken out because they had trouble finding the part. I Screamed sh*t when the ceiling was about to collapse .
RW:BACKDRAFT isn't just a show ,it's and educational experience.😕
I was probably one of the last people to go on this group :D
The bridge scared the shit outta me
