@@kennylong7281 Spain absolutely played a part in the history of the HRE. For one because it was Charles V (Emperor and king of Spain among others) who removed the low countries from it and gave them to, Spain.
Always funny to see medieval European maps with the Dutch province Flevoland which was only taken from the sea in the second half of the last century. And it even shows the dike closing off the large body of water in the middle (the IJsselmeer nowadays) from the North Sea.
Good lord, how much time needs to be spent on his age? As one starts viewing this, it sends the message that this lecturer is going to use up a lot of time on minor details.
I think this chap is a superb teacher. I have listened to his 3 part “great courses” series on the Middle Ages 3 or 4 times.
I'm sitting in class with him right now, and I'd agree lmao
he's my major advisor and i'd have to agree

So supposedly king Charlemagne is a great grandpa of mine? Can I get some royalties or something? Surely I must of inherited something.
According to 23andMe a large % of the population with French & German ancestry are defendants of this king.

And the truth is, the Catholic Church ran Europe in any case, so the Roman Empire persisted in the guise of religion.
All that work was pointless given the unchanged succession laws.
